Before this episode originally aired, it had leaked that the episode was going to have a lot of important information and that someone was going to die. This created a problem for me. I was scheduled to be on the road to Las Vegas to watch and bet on the March Madness Tournament (College basketball). The games were scheduled to start the next morning. If things were going to be that important and if someone was going to die, the last thing I wanted was to overhear someone talking about it when I was in line to get food. And I really didn't want to wait five days to watch it on my dvr. So I borrowed my friend's laptop and went to the food court at the Venetian Casino and watched it on the network's website as soon as they posted it. This was in the days before streaming channels, and in the very infancy of networks posting episodes to their own websites. It was tough watching the episode while knowing I was missing games that I had money on, but in the end, it was worth it. I never would have guessed that there would be two deaths and that they would be Karl and Danielle (yes, she is dead). By the way, now you know why Tom (or Zeke as you call him) said that Kate was not his type. And he was shot in the chest by Sawyer, not the head. When Sawyer shot him, he looked down at his chest in disbelief before he died.
Remember the last episode right before Regina in Chains jumped overboard, we noticed that the chopper was gone? The Doctor said it was gone on an errand. Remember the guys on Widmore's boat who said they were "shooting things"? If Widmore's orders were to capture Ben and kill every living person on the Island, why is it Ben's plan to arrange The Ambush in the Jungle?
The thing that convinced Michael to set off the 'bomb'... was the group of aggressively trigger-happy mercs on board the freighter. Because what could their purpose possibly be?
I'm not going to say you are right or wrong on this one, but I guess you have watched the next episode and you know the answer. But it's the 2nd time (after "Not Penny's boat") that you thought something completely different than me in my first watch. When I watched Rosseau and Karl getting shot I never thought it was Ben's plan. And I guess you can tell by Alex's reaction she didn't think it either. Why would she say "I'm Ben's daughter" to the others? They would know her. Same with the Losties - that wouldn't have any reason to shoot Karl or Rosseau. So that leaves another option as being the answer.
On today's episode of Hey I Kind of Know that Person: The pawn shop owner is played by Bill Ogilvie, a local actor who's been in many Hawaii-produced TV shows and films. I attended the same elementary school as his daughter who is also an actress now.
The others killed Carl and Danielle with silenced rifles? That's a new one for me. Can't recall anyone thinking that at the time. Especially because Ben earlier said that the freighter people were planning on killing everyone on the Island.
Thanks for the reaction, Elie! How things have changed since the second season. I remember how much we admired Mr. Eco. Now we are here, on this ship with armed men. The atmosphere is different now. It seems that a lot has changed since Mr. Eco, and strange crazy, but no less interesting things are happening. It always seemed to me that Locke was skeptical of Mr. Eco's faith in the second season. It feels like Locke could believe in miracles, but not everything. It feels like Locke believes only in the Island, unlike Mr. Eco, who believes in something even more, believes in God. Therefore, one question still haunts me: would it be better for Locke to achieve important goals if he had the same faith as Mr. Eco. Would it help Locke not to lose faith in the second season? Locke once told Jack, when he asked him to press the button, that it was a leap of faith, and that it couldn't be that easy. This is one of my favorite phrases from this show
I'm always surprised when a first timer thinks Ben is responsible. Episodes ago, when Ben was still tied to a tree... he urged Danielle to take Alex far away. Go anywhere, but just go. She should've listened.
It's about 50-50 - a lot of people thought Ben right away because you can never trust what he says, and now he's gotten rid of the only thing(s) between him and Alex. I'm never surprised when they think it's Ben (I didn't think it was Ben, but there wasn't a great alternative). In retrospect we can see it, but on original airing it was ambiguous IMO
I disagree... it never occurred to me that it could be Ben. I have only ever seen modern viewers jump to that conclusion. Because, sorry, Ben is not a monster. He already urged Rousseau to disappear with Alex, several days ago while he was tied to a tree. And hugely, the episode made a point of showing trigger-happy mercs on board the freighter. The leader of which told Frank to have the helicopter ready, in the prior episode, which is now gone. Being Ben makes no sense.
But Karl is an Other. I don't think Ben would kill an Other. Even before they were at the houses, back at the radio tower Ben told Danielle to take her to the Temple because he didn't want "my daughter" killed, and Danielle slapped the Hell out of him. I think he sent Danielle because he knows Danielle will do EVERYTHING to protect her. And what did Ben say about those people coming to get him... About using Alex for?
Fun fact, the only time that Tom could have left the island to get to Michael and back is the week Jack spent with the Others, so Michaels flashback must take place between the time Juliet was "branded" and Kate, Sayid and Jack arriving at the barracks. Which doesn't seem like a lot of time. But as some of the episodes earlier this season showed us, time can be a bit wonky if you don't "stay on the bearing" (IE Sayid, Frank and Desmond only being in the air an hour but landing on the freighter the next day). The show never confirms one way or another but it's always in the back of my head that Tom could have cheated time a bit to get to New York and back. I believe it's only Libby's ghost because (aside from Michelle Rodriguez not being available) "Libby was a mistake," he didn't mean to kill her and he's haunted by that. (But the best thing about Lost is because of its very nature as a show relying on flashbacks, every character you've seen since day one has the potential of coming back). I like how this season is cagey about Widmore and is he good or bad or worse. That continues to be a fun mystery. I always find it interesting that a lot of the Lost reactors instantly go to "Ben set them up" for that final scene and not "Ben was right, they're coming to kill us." Because I recall from the first time I saw this episode in 2008, thinking it was not the Others, because Ben wouldn't send Alex into an ambush on purpose. But so far every reaction I've seen of this episode, everyone immediately jumps to "Ben set them up." That's interesting. (Also the fact that the Others are not important to this season like they were last year).
Right before Danielle got shot, did anyone else notice that Alex was wearing what appeared to be an earpiece/microphone looking thing on her ear? If you pause the footage you can clearly see it plainily visable. What were the producers thinking? How did they not catch that error? It reminds me so much of the Game Of Thrones scene in 8x03 where a Starbucks Cup was plainly visable during that scene where Jon snow was divisng a battle plan against the Army of the Dead. 😅
Alex or Carl? When Carl is lying on the ground after getting shot, you can see one in his left ear. Maybe the actor needed them? Either way, if the character was hearing impaired, I am sure that the others would have been able to get them hearing aids.
@@troubleondemand7703 i didn't say anything about Carl. If you pause Elie's vid at the 29:30 mark you can clearly see a microphone in her right ear. What is that?

Oh Walt... RIP... to the writers that is. Still loved Lost at this point, even in the shaky next season. But sadly the cracks will start to show. Mystery boxes were fresh and new and 'worked' back in this day, but you have to be able to close the boxes in this day. Don't get me wrong, I still love the show as a whole (why I watch reactions to it)... but I was not a fan of it's end (not a fault of the writers, the network didn't want their golden goose to end and forced them to keep writing, look it up)... I still 100% love the characters and their development, but (love me or hate me), this show totally broke my trust in shows until GOT, which did the same thing in it's final season. Frustrating to love and hate shows like this in equal measure!!
they showrunners asked 3 years in advance for the show to end, got 48 episodes, wrote them exactly how they wanted. The studio didn't interfere. And it sounds like you don't understand the ending. They stuck to the same ending JJ Abrams asked for in S1. 2 lines that Desmond says in S2 are the key to the ending.
I was always into Lost for the journey, the characters, the connections. But most of the boxes were closed. And the ones that weren't... were purposefully left that way, or just weren't that big of a deal, more important things to focus on. I mean, the reason Lost is so rewatchable, still discussed so much... is because there's still room for interpretation. Personally, I don't need detailed answers to the nth degree for everything. Because that doesn't happen in life. It's like... growing up, I didn't need 'The Force' (in SW) to be defined. It just was. And no one was better off when they later tried to explain it.

I still 100% love the characters and their development, but (love me or hate me), this show totally broke my trust in shows until GOT, which did the same thing in it's final season. Frustrating to love and hate shows like this in equal measure!!
Season 4&5 peak
What are you even talking about?
they showrunners asked 3 years in advance for the show to end, got 48 episodes, wrote them exactly how they wanted. The studio didn't interfere. And it sounds like you don't understand the ending. They stuck to the same ending JJ Abrams asked for in S1. 2 lines that Desmond says in S2 are the key to the ending.
Who cares when somebody is still watching it. Very useless post and makes no sense anyway.
He is gonna love season 5
I was always into Lost for the journey, the characters, the connections. But most of the boxes were closed. And the ones that weren't... were purposefully left that way, or just weren't that big of a deal, more important things to focus on. I mean, the reason Lost is so rewatchable, still discussed so much... is because there's still room for interpretation. Personally, I don't need detailed answers to the nth degree for everything. Because that doesn't happen in life. It's like... growing up, I didn't need 'The Force' (in SW) to be defined. It just was. And no one was better off when they later tried to explain it.
