Where does the vacuum line that goes on the front of the filter lead to. I found mine was broken on both ends but I don’t know where the other side goes to.
@@garysanchez8876 it leads to the F connector on the intake boot. its gonna be the smaller nibble below the bigger vaccum hose.

Safety tip: Remove fuel pump fuse (#54 on 2001 BMW 325I) And run car until it shuts off. Relieves pressure from lines. A mechanic would mention this.😉
True it's a safety thing don't leave that fuel pump fuse on the car remove it to relieve pressure.
Sorry I dont get it, remove fuse and run the car until it shuts off? About how much time until this occur? Or until all fuel is gone?
@@gaborn4521 it takes a couple of seconds. The lines don't hold that much fuel
I tried to do this but the car wouldn’t start when I pulled the fuse… does that mean there was no fuel pressure
Will this work on a 2002
I replaced this on my 01 330i today.
The fuel rail pressure before I replaced it, was 45 PSI.
I removed the fuel pump fuese #54 and ran the engin until it died.
After I replace the fuel pressure regulator,the fuel rail pressure read 55 PSI.
I determined that it was a little clogged.

did you have a misfire or rough idle before replacing the fuel filter? my fuel pressure is also reading 45 psi and drops to like 42 ish after turning off ignition. I'm having a pretty bad rough idle.
Wish ya was closer...so hard to find an honest mechanic..very talented and still so young..good luck...
you dont need a mechanic for this job, or other 50 jobs...e46 is simple...you need something to replace? watch a video on youtube and go for it...nothing hard :)

Nice video. One thing - It is better not to put the fuel cover before you prime the fuel for flowing for few seconds (when you put the key to ignition position) so it is easier to diagnose if there is a leak in one of the hoses attached to the fuel filter or elsewhere under the cover. Even two people can do better, one turning the key to ignition another watching under the car for leak.
I've still got to do this. One of the few remaining things to take care of on my E46. Thanks for sharing! Keep up the good work!
A good precaution is to check if there are any cracks on the rubber hose. If so, replace those, too, while everything is out.

I replaced both of the rubber hoses too. They were all fraying and had been indented by the hose clamps.
I can tell you from experience that this job is not easy on your back!!! But thanks for your video it was a huge help!!!
lol try changing the driveshaft center support bearing on a jack and jack stands! this is way easy!
It definitely helped! Thankyou . My Zhp has been acting really funky lately I replaced the fuel pump and it got better but still does it , so replacing the fuel filter today , it has 130k miles and idk if the filter is original or not

Thanks bro I'm doing this this morning on mine I ordered the one from autozone originally and they sent me the wrong one. It didn't have the built in fuel pressure regulator
Great DIY again. Most of the owners didn't replace it because the filter isn't visible. I did my friend's e46 318i n46 2003, and it was never replaces before for 150t mls :0 . After that the engine had a much better start.... The n46 has this type of filter too. But maybe the e46 N46B18 was not sold in the USA..?...
Looks sooooooo easy with a lift. I did this in my garage without a lift and was a pain in the butt. I couldn't get proper leverage and my hand slipped. I ended up with a huge gash on my right hand.
If I could get my 46 that high I’d be under it every weekend! I know nothing about cars but I’m very practical

This is one of the filters that I have to replace on my car.
What specification is for the vacuum line hose? Does it have to be gasoline resistance？ What about psi, as far as the pressure is concerned. In addition, its internal diameter, the thickness of the outer line？ Thank you.
Dude your videos are awesome. Helped me change out my transmission! This one on the other hand. I bought a new fuel pump from 'All Import Auto Parts' almost a year ago. I've been having this starting problem for a while now. Sometimes I have to crank the car a few times to start it and other times it just starts. No known vacuum leaks however, I haven't changed out my fuel filter. My question is, would a bad fuel filter cause starting problems? Mine is a 2002 325i almost 200k miles. It's like I can almost tell there's some issue right under my driver seat like the gas doesn't reach the injectors.

A friend had the oil light flashing and the problem was a broken air hose that goes to the fuel filter which causes a vacuum and the whole system is messed up.

My hoses did want to come off and did not want to go on. I've never swore that much for what should have been a pretty simple job.
I did this and the best way is to remove the pump fuse and start the car few times. Takes the pressure and less fuel on the fuse hose and filter. I did prime it 3 times and still would not start took 8 attempts before car start and works fine. Initially I thought I did something wrong but clearly I didn't. I was not aware of the clamps. I put cheap ones they snapped so I just put better ones after that. Did not know you can get fuel clamps
If it took that long to prime after chances are your fuel pump is also weak
ShopLifeTV I changed the fuel oil 1 year ago and maybe your right about fuel pump. I wanted ask you can I bleed 2 brakes at the same time using the one man bleeding kit with one way valve ?
I haven’t tried that but if you follow the instructions you might be able to

I’m surprised you didn’t pull the 54 fuse first or drain the line by pulling the fuse first and then trying to start the car in position 2.

i have a 99 323i and my fuel filter only has one inlet and outlet. is the arrow supposed to be pointing towards the front of the car or the rear.
Did this on my 2001 325i ...Right After I ran OBD2 and it threw a code...P0457 or Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (fuel cap loose/off)....even more .....OBD2 Code P0457 BMW definition:
A fuel tank pressure change less than a minus (-) 7 inches of water in 30 seconds has occurred after refueling; or there is excessive purge (fuel vapor) flow greater than 0.06 pounds per minute...... ShopLifeTV any advice....I cleared the code and am crossing my fingers...There were no visable leaks upon inspection after FF replacement...Changed Hoses and Clamps too
01 325xi wagon. Would the fuel filter regulator going bad or being clogged cause the car to sputter when the gas pedal is pushed and mellow out when pushed further down ? It idles fine and revs fine just does it when put into gear.

could the hoses be pinched off to minimise fuel loss? seemed like a lot could leak out if (like me) you're not too speedy with the spanners.

I have a E46 and 03 shut down going down the highway acted like it was running out of fuel took the fuel filter out of the gas tank plugged it in stuck it back in the tank turn the key on shot fuel out seem to be a lot of fuel seem to be okay put it back together car I still don't run any suggestions
does it matter if the rear 2 hoses were put on a specific way? am getting no fuel at my schrader valve and wondered if i have maybe connected it the wrong way

It looks like 95% of the aftermarket fuel filters only have 1 exit, while Yours has 2 outlets, I see a wix brand does also. Is the fuel regulator inside these as well? Anyone? Thanks

I need some Intel. I went to lookT a 06 530i. Started uo fine ran great. I floored it and it took off like it should then I came to a stop and when I floored it it didn't want to fully respond and the transmission light started to blink. I pulled over and turned the car off and back on and imdid it once more and it took off again then like it was not fully responding again any tips on this?

How do you know the right orientation? I know it's marked with an arrow but, how do I know which one of the 2 hoses on the other end goes to which pipe on the back of the filter?

Is the coupe preface lift gurl filter the same? As I'm looking it up online and I found a similar 1 to you 1 you used but only has 1 in take on each side and as I don't have a lift It's better if I have the part when I'm doing the job rather than jacking it just to check

My e46 320d ran out of fuel.. Is it right if I'm saying I have to bleed the fuel system and if so how do i do I bleed the system?
I juest went to check under my car and there are 2 separate filters under the car. a smaller one and then another right after it.

2004 325 I fuel filter is 14.50inches x 4.50inches this filter does not work on my car.
