So i just need to put the key in and try to start the vehicle nornally or i put the key in and afterwards i double press the START button so the pump runs and clears the air ?
Do you have to fill the new filter up or can you just put a new one up there, install every cover etc. And then crank it up so the car fills the filter up?
Hi there, I wonder how you avoided fuel spilling from the hoses when dismounting the filter. Have you done something (ie. plugging the hoses or emptying the tank) to stop spilling or not Thanks.
Little amounts of fuel come out which can be caught in a container, the pump is not active so there is no continued flow of fuel that will be coming out. I hope this helps
Every time I fill up my car it take long to start, and I have to give it gas so that it does not turn off wen it comes on, I heard that it can be the fuel filter, is this the reason as to why you replaced yours?
20/30k I do mine every service don’t skimp on fuel filters as well make sure it’s a proper brand so the filter material used is genuine don’t want cheap rubbish incase it deteriorates or that will cause very fun issues
How did you know the fuel filter was worn? Did you read out your onboard computer diagnostics? The reason for my question is, I have A error code 004BDC - Performeance fuel pump too low for current delivery?? Could this be the filter ? Or is this really A pump failure for pre-pressurization ?
The filter was replaced for general maintenance (based on miles since last change) just like the oil filters or any other mileage based serviceable item. Preventative measures in servicing is essential to a good running vehicle over a long period. Regarding your problem, it is not one I could diagnose without hands on investigation, I recommend bringing it to a trusted reliable repairer for diagnostic.
I have one more question, is it best to do this with an almost empty tank ? Would A full tank of diesel spill out of the left end at the filter? Thanks for the video! much help
banginpadr on every tune up which means, air intake filter, cabin air filter, motor oil and filter, spark plugs, drive belt and tensioner pulley set, (about 80,000 miles on the water pump) consider replacing also if over 80k. PPIERBURGH and VDO makes excellent water pumps and for the thermostat you want WAHLER, or BEAHR brands. also for the fuel filters MAHLE, MANN, BEAHR, KAISER, are the guys you want to look for don't buy economy products buy only OEM.
Fuel filter intervals are every 3rd to 4th service - 30-40K, some people like to do it every second service but personally I feel it is not needed that often, but better early than late. I hope this helps.
Can someone recommend a good 320d maintenance schedule, kind of made my own but im no expert and just got the car so havent put it in practise yet.. oil every 10km (7 miles) oil + filter 20Km oil 30km oil, fuel, air, oil filter Wondering how regular to change automatic, dif, brake fluid, coolant, powersterering fluid
@@gail6904 he's talking about cranking the engine to prime the system as opposed to either hand priming or using diagnostics to prime it. Just cranking the engine risks running the high pressure pump dry which isn't good. I'd say there will be enough residual in the pump for it to be ok.
That filter is HUGE!!!
All the other cars I've been working on have fuel filter half or third the size of this one.
The v8's have x 2 of the bastards!
Thanks for great video, the pipe has just blown off the fuel filter on my car so great to be able to visualise what's happened 👍
Cheers Mark
This is my job tomorrow. Great video thanks!
👌
Cheers this vid has saved me money & car in garage for days, my job this week👍🇮🇪
🙏🙏💪💪
Would filling the filter with injector cleaner be an idea so it's more concentrated to aid any issues up stream in system ??
fucking refreshing hearing someone speak my language to teach me how to do this stuff 😂
Cheers Owen 😂
Absolutely brilliant clear video. Very useful, thanks👍
Would it be the same startup procedure if I ran out of diesel? Tank completely empty.
So i just need to put the key in and try to start the vehicle nornally or i put the key in and afterwards i double press the START button so the pump runs and clears the air ?

Best to fill it
If I was to use a fuel system cleaner should I change the filter before the clean or let it run for a week then change filter ?

Am I filling the filter up before I re install
hi
does the fuel tank has to be empty before doing this? Or, it does not matter?
Is this the Pierburg fuel pump 7.28217.00?
Very informative .... Did you use some sort of clamps on in & out pipe to stop the diesel before removing the old filter ?
No I just used a drainer to catch any fuel that came out. No need for clamping
You don't replace the green o-ring?
Length of the filter is abot 265mm? Right?
Could a fuel filter be the culprit for my cranks but no start 2011 328i with only 44,000 miles?
warranty?
VERY good feel able now to do that job MYSELF now Thank YOU
Thanks for the video, it saved me a lot of time!
how to destroy the high pressure fuel pump in 3 2 1
Why
Yeah why
Every time I fill up my car it take long to start, and I have to give it gas so that it does not turn off wen it comes on, I heard that it can be the fuel filter, is this the reason as to why you replaced yours?
yes, if fuel filter is full of dirt, fuel takes more time to get to the engine. sometimes you can't even start the car.
fuel pressure, check for leak, oring may be buggered
Is this in the centre or on drivers side
Symptoms of a bad fuel filter ?
What year is your car? Is it the n47 engine?
use ista to prime the filter otherwise you can make chips in the fuel high pressure pump
Good job
Hi ı have 4b1c error code. Filter heater. What is the prroblem? At morming cold start there is late starting and shaking
I have that too. Im going to replace filter heater with new one... only that is solution to our problem mate.
Anybody find a solution to this? I’ve got codes 4b1b and 4b1c both fuel filter heater but no symptoms apart from reduced mpg
Great video Gerard, easy guide for a novice.
Is this the M47 engine?
Nice one, thank you!
I’ve got a e90 320d , the engine is bee rowdy like a truck it sound ,what can I do to stop that ? ASAP
Put some good oil in it - I use Millers Trident and mine sounds quieter.
really helpfull, thank you
Awesome video
Hi is this the same filter on a 2004 320 cd?
No
Great video but which side of the car is it on ???? You don't show where the front page f the car is , just the underside which is confusing
It is just slightly off middle & left of the vehicle.
you can prime the fuel filter without starting the car
edibas is what i use
How?
How often should i replace it?
20/30k I do mine every service don’t skimp on fuel filters as well make sure it’s a proper brand so the filter material used is genuine don’t want cheap rubbish incase it deteriorates or that will cause very fun issues
EXCELLENT, COVERED ALL POINTS. THANK YOU.
Will this work on a E92 335i N54
Great video, thanks!
Thanks for the comment :)

The answer is no, the tank amount has no relevance to this job.
Tom desmet your logic stumbles me 😂
Great video ... could you recommend someone in cork to work on a bmw 320d..love your videos man..
Thank you Alex, Sorry I do not know anyone in that neck of the woods.
@@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage thanks gerard..

@@gulag8735 yeah so is Paddy
is it the same for an e92 ?
banginpadr, want to ask the same myself. Also, after how many miles do you change the fuel filter?

cant stray far away from this turorial
Great video, would just like to ask how often do you change the fuel filter? And I presume this is the same on an e92.

Gerard Burke thank you very much Gerard
Gerard Burke and just to be sure, 30 to 40k (miles... Not km)
Yes Miles.
No problem.
works on f15 30d as well
Thanks for the info
The name of the video is incorrect, these model diesel fuel filters fit cars only until mode year 2010-01
My 1 series is 2011 and still uses same filter bud?
Can someone recommend a good 320d maintenance schedule, kind of made my own but im no expert and just got the car so havent put it in practise yet..
oil every 10km (7 miles)
oil + filter 20Km
oil 30km
oil, fuel, air, oil filter
Wondering how regular to change automatic, dif, brake fluid, coolant, powersterering fluid
you need to change the oil filter everytime you change the oil
OK but next time let’s somebody to hold up the camera or the mobile for you thank you anyway
Most of the times it doesn’t start 😂
You destroy the fuel pomp , use vcds for rencharge fuel instalation
??what do u mean he destroyed the fuel pump??
