  • I've encountered diabolical cabin filter changes before where you need a 5 year old's arms and contortionist-like flexibility but this is by far the most ridiculous air filter removal procedure I have ever seen.
    FYI this is the M47 engine fitted to earlier models not the later N47.
    Air filter: Hengst E377L
    Cabin filter: Hengst E1959LC

    Great tutorial, best I've seen on RUclips and I've watched many. Can imagine the engine designers looking at the engine on a CAD screen thinking 'oh here's a nice place for the airfilter tucked neatly in this gap' making it easier for installing the engine as a unit on the assembly line with no thought about future access.

      Thanks Neville, it’s as if the engine should be the other way round, I’ve never encountered anything like it on all the cars I’ve worked on!

    I agree fully with your comment "but this is by far the most ridiculous air filter removal procedure I have ever seen". I changed the air filter on my 330d yesterday. I would have NEVER been able to without following these "How to" RUclips videos. Whoever approved the design should have his/her arse kicked

      Petrols aren’t much better, have to remove the air box and flip it upside down to undo the screws, insanity.

    After this video I got some doubts about last service air filter replacement made by a generic service station. They were told to give me back the replaced filter, but at the end they said they forgot my suggestion and scrap the replaced parts. I think my BMW is still having original one after 270.000 km.... 😞

    First time I changed my air filter on this engine i armed myself with a Phillips and a flat head screwdriver, and gave the job 10 mins max🤦‍♂️
    2 days later after watching youtube tutorials and purchasing the necessary torx bit sockets i got to work.
    Once finished I received a CPD anger management pass certificate in the post, and an invitation to appear on The Krypton Factor

    Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this - it's bloody ridiculous!
    I've worked on many different cars and have never had so much trouble replacing a service item.
    Have you seen the Haynes manual on this? They literally cheat and skip over having to remove the brace!
    Apparently you're supposed to use new bolts when you replace the stiffening braces....🤣

    • @IAMASPANNER
      @IAMASPANNER  2 года назад

      I have not seen the manual, I went into this completely blind, couldn’t believe it at all. The petrol version isn’t very friendly either, you have to remove the air box completely as the screws to open the air box are underneath!
