  • Is foam just "for show?" Or does foaming Incredible Suds (our pH neutral car shampoo) FIRST make a tangible difference? In this video, Nick and Yvan do a side by side test. What say you?!

    Because I worked at and owned a tunnel car wash, I got in the habit of pressure washing first.
    I still do that at my day job because I feel that I do it more for show - for the owner than to help in any cleaning. I prefer to rinsless anyhow.
    If I can rinseless, I put an oz of solution in some water in the former and apply to the vehicle. From there I do my contact rinseless / mechanical decon. If I use a fallout remover I'll contact wash, dry, fallout remover, wash / clay, dry. I'd like to get them set up with a good fallout remover/clay towel that works good together, like the set up I have at home.

    My car is ceramic coated and is outside 24/7. I spray APC first on a dry surface to help soften the dirt. Then I foam the car and allow it to dwell, rinse with pressure washer. I then use ONR for contact wash and with a ceramic booster spray as a drying aid.

    I'm missing something... what caused the rinsed/foamed/rinsed area to be dirtier than the foamed/rinsed area? Is it the surfactants being diluted by being sprayed onto an already wet panel or was the dirt driven into the clear coat? I'm thinking this is a place where the science/practice defies the logic.

    • @diydetailofficial
      @diydetailofficial  Год назад +3

      Applying the foam first to a dry panel allows the foam to better emulsify the dirt on the surface.

    I feel like you HAVE to go with a rinseless first for lubrication, power wash that off (2nd), and then foam cannon as the 3rd step. At least thats what I’m doing after this rain stops 👀

      A foam bath first is all you’ll ever need.
      By rinsing with only water, all the dirt & traffic film is fully saturated with water; and not a surfactant engineered to remove dirt from clear coat. Water is not a good surfactant.
      Doing more steps than a foam bath, rinse & handwash is unnecessary and will just waste your time & money, taking the fun out of detailing.

    Interesting question this. I thought that to rattle dirt along the panel without lubrication was wrong but my detailing Guru suggests pre rinsing first. I think it depends on how dirty it is and how we should tackle the job.

    Great comparation guys! I love your work and admire your skills and profesionall deep analytic approach in every step of detailing bussines...
    I personally think its more about which product you use for foam action than its about pre-rinse or not...i tried lots of shampoons both alkaline and neutral in my foam cannon and i can confirm that with pre-rinse you just have it all unnecessarily dilluted on a wet car so you can never get cleaning action you should get with dry surface with stronger clinging effect for the dirt...
    And just for the note...i like you using and advetising products from your own laboratory instead of selling other brands for commercial profit like most of other ytbers do no matter if they really like those products or not

    • @dustin3700
      @dustin3700 Год назад +1

      That's vary subjective since soaps and pre soaks are not created equal. I use a fairly strong presoak clean the wheels then rinse and wash, on well maintained and coated vehicles the hydrophobics are about 80 back just after the presaok which means the panel is free of road film and mostly clean. It's harder on coating, waxes ect but I use a sealant or detailer every hand wash. I notice hydrophobics suffer greatly if I rinseless wash the vehicle for 2 or 3 washes and it needs a proper soap to really clean the surface especially here in Minnesota.
