- Which does a better job at cleaning a filthy car: Snowfoam first or Pre-rinse first and then snowfoam? Many people say, if pre-rinsing first, this dilutes the snow foam more and doesn't clean effectively. Others say Snow foam does not get past all the dirt on the car, therefor you need to rinse first and then snowfoam to get even coverage. So in this Detailing video, we test the myths and find out which is better, pre-rinse first or snow foam first. The results speak from themselves. For the test, I used Bilt Hamber Autofoam as my snowfoam of choice.

If you have rinsed dirt off a panel before snow foaming it, of course the foam drop off is going to look cleaner!

Good review.. at least you used a dirty vehicle. most of the testers on Ytube use a Sparkling clean car and are interested in only how thick the foam is.. well done..

This is good info for an apartment dweller that might have to carry water to the car. Less water needed, and same or possibly better pre-wash!
I first foam on dry vehicle, let dwell then rinse. Foam again for hand wash, then final rinse.

Great test. Results speak from themselves. Think the results would be even more evident with a strong snowfoam like blit hamber👍
Snow foam first, it applies softer and does most of the work for you. Blasting heavy dirt straight with a pressure washer is almost like sand blasting your car, that grit will scrape along the surface
Quite a debate here, and what you say makes sense - a wet sandblasting?!
@@RAMPHD Pressure cutting with water is just water with sand mixed to it. I think it applies here also lol. So if youre going to pre rinse, I'd use light stream of water.
Have always used snowfoam first and let it do what it’s supposed to do, do wheels first and arches
2 issues with this. First, every snow foam performs differently. Some are better than others etc etc secondly, you let a lot of the foam dry which just let the dirt it had actually loosened up dry back on the surface, that dirt would have came off with the pressure washer.

So…good objective video. But I will say that in ANY of the applications (after drying) there was what I would consider quite a fair amount of leftover traffic film. The contact wash after would DEFINITELY be moving dirt around EITHER WAY. I bring this up because a lot of people want to take good care of their paint but don’t want to believe they’re harming their car by traditional contact methods. After all, traditional was fine for a very…long…time.
I'm only a weekend warrior but this has been tested by many detailers here on RUclips and the tests have all concluded that a pre rinse makes no difference to the cleaning ...... And in fact washing the dried in dirt under pressure can actually cause scratching and marring of the paintwork ...... If my car is particularly dirty as in heavy dirt I'll soak it with my garden hose to just soften the dirt as opposed to trying to wash it off .....
I've just bought a new pressure washer and I'm waiting to try it out, weather has been horrendous to try anything just now and I've recently moved up to having bought a citrus prewash to use prior to snowfoaming the car although again if heard it's sometimes just as easy to mix the citrus prewash in with the snowfoam to give it a bit more bite at cleaning
Great video Paddy! When I was looking for any difference between pre rinse first then snow foam, or just snow foam without pre rinse myself, i couldn't see any visible difference at all either. But as you just have said: the dwelling time of the snow foam is much better on dry surface, not to mention the further dilution on wet surface. Still, this subject will divide people further, but I think your video made the point well enough and I really enjoyed watching the content, too. Keep them coming Paddy 🔥

What worked for me man no joke is using chem guys nonsense cleaner.. spraying it over the whole car then foaming !! I didn’t have to even use a sponge it came out spotless !!!!
I suspect snow foam sticks to a dry car better. That's what it's.designed for I guess. So, if it.sticks better, it removes more muck?

Snow foam is crap anyway, I binned it a few years ago. It's expensive (I only do my own car) but I now use Autofinnese Citrus Power as a pre-wash agent, it's amazing stuff and takes off 95% of grime and traffic film
Depends on how dirty the car is surely 😅 if it’s soiled and covered then you’d rinse it to minimise damage

Was told to snow foam... No rinsing first
This time of year I apply a bug remover spray before snow foaming let it dwell and spray off and most of the bugs and crap is gone and makes washing with shampoo and mitt a walk in the park
Yeah something similar in process in that I'd use a citrus spray underneath also. Just hope it doesn't make the foam run off as quick now following this test!!

Black car - so the worst..... Hand wash with your own choice of soap + sponge (mine is diamondbrite shampoo with regular sponge, not wiggle mitt), rinse with cold water + sponge, hit with drying towel, finish with chamois and microfibre. My car looks amazing everytime doing this.
What people forget is your paintwork needs to be good beforehand. If its trash, itll look average when washed. Paintwork wise from scratch i use diamondbrite diamond cut, then seal + shine.
Works wonders, but turtlewax ceramic black is also VERY good, as is poorboys black hole.

As you say maybe Pre rinse if the car is proper caked with filth.
But for the weekend warrior that keeps their car well kept just go with the foam first.
Now what to do next ?

At the car wash they don’t pre rinse. They start with the snow foam. I’ve always pre rinsed. I will have to try the foam first.
If the car is really dirty I use a Citrus pre wash 1st then rinse off before I snow foam. If the car isn't too bad I just use a snow foam on a dry car. It works for me but I don't think it really matters TBH. With a protected car the water runs off and I think the dilution with water on the car and effect on cling time is minimal.
What about today, are you still doing it that Way, or did you change something?
@@kyffelikyf I now put Citrus on and snow foam over the top for the extra dwell time. Use less water that way lol.
@0:32(My answer) my brain tells me the foam before pre rinse would be safer for your paint unless you literally have mud caked on your vehicle! I'm looking forward to finding out the answer👍👍👍

Good to see some tests on this, but what would have the outcome been had you have rinsed off the foam before allowing it to dry?
The foam was rinsed off before carrying out the tests, not sure what you mean by this 🤔
@@GoodLuggageAutomotiveDetailing it was super dry when you washed it off but at car wash they sometimes do it earlier maybe like 2mins in rather than 6mins

At the end of the day the best method is pre rinse. Sponge wash. Rinse then leather down

I've tried snow foam and think it's good....
I tend to pre wash... snow foam.... sponge down.. snow foam again... then rinse off... leather... polish..
You can't beat the looks of a car that's been detailed. Even more so when a professional car detailer does the work.
A shiny clean car is a good indicator that the owner looks after the car in all departments

if its too dirty, like chunks of dirt or bird poop stuck to the paint, then rinse first.

It's an interesting debate, from speaking to other pro detailers, they still recommend the wash first, but proof in the pudding! However in warmer times, possibly better to have the panel cool before foam? Thoughts?

Pre rinse should be better for your towels and sponges.
My experience is to rinse first, then snow foam, then agitate. 😂
Looks like the side that was just rinsed without any foam is not much worse than the panels where the foam was used ?
did a swipe test on it off camera and definately was worse when ye did that, just didnt pick it up on camera ;-)

Why do you put the car between the blue dohickies? Is it to be able to have the can in neutral or is it to get it off the ground just a little bit to be able to clean the tires all around?
To prevent the one thing that always gets stuck, the hose.
They are just dollies to allow the hose to run freely without getting caught in the wheels 👍
Be extra safe, (after wheels are done as they’re done first)
Thorough pre rinse
Citrus pre wash
Thorough pre rinse
Snow foam + agitation stage
Thorough pre rinse
That should get around 80+% of grime and film off of the vehicle off not, look at hitting it again with citrus and a pre rinse.
Then start the contact washing using 2 mitts (colour coded)
Pre rinsing is a waste of water. TFR first. Rinse that off and likely you won't need to wash the car. That's how I find it.
Water alone won't shift any traffic film and it will degrade the snow foam's performance
No pre rinse saves water as well.

Couple of things unwind your extension reel fully it can over heat else and try a proper snow foam lance instead of that karcher tat 🤣🤣
Good shout on the extension reel alright mate cheers, as for the snow lance, that definately isint a karcher one!! Actually cost me 85 euro at the time, and much prefer it over my mjjc, check out the video of that to see the difference!!!
First time seeing one of your videos so not sure if this has been covered or not... the wheel chocks. On my own car, knowing the condition of the parking brake and being on level ground it would never even be a concern but I assume that as a business in the centre of the universes' Health & Safety world, that's a requirement or are you just being extra careful to avoid surprises? Chocks on one wheel both front and back would suffice but all four corners would imply that vehicle has no parking brake and the transmission should never be a substitute, manual transmission that is.
These aren't chocks to hold the car in place, they are simply rollers to allow the hose to travel around the car without getting stuck in the tyres 👌

Pre rinse first makes the most sense to me , get all the big crap off first , the snow foam second will clean better .
