Pye, I’ve personally heard some very popular RUclipsrs say they don’t feel it’s necessary to gel in incandescent event spaces. It makes my heart happy to know you take the time to teach how to do that. At least your viewers know it’s an option and how to do it.
Thank you Pye. The first thing that i realized when i started my photography is i used the aperture priority. I had inconsistent exposures during that process and i blamed myself for having inconsistent results without knowing why. It was until i figured out that the auto shutter speed was to blame. Its good that you mentioned here in this video.
Pye thank you for doing this video! I’m just learning settings and jargon. Your easy yet fluid style of presenting really makes it easier to understand. Definitely searching out your other tutorials now.
Eric, I am 74 and a regular golfer and a 17 HCAP with a serious "ball goes right" problem. I am seeing a local pro who refers to your channel . This particular move is what we are working on right now. Thanx for the video, keepem coming. Dave from VA Beach...
Excellent. I watched a few of Pye’s flash tutorials before a went out and bought a Godox v1 with a modifier kit. The modifiers really make a difference. If I had a traditional rectangle flash I would be using Magmod modifiers.
Think of it as our version of a Jedi mind trick. "You will like and subscribe... it is your destiny." Thanks for joining the dark... I mean, the brilliant side. 😂
not me googling the flash hes using. its like 900 plus bucks. oh my gosh. and here thought 200 dollars for a flash was expensive. now to add it to my save list.
Love these tutorials! Any chance of teaching us the various distances of off camera flash? Some people place it really near the subject while others kind of far
I've watched a bunch of your flash videos Pye, and in each one I learn something new, thank you! I liked the comment about filter films on building glass for energy efficiency and how a bounce flash can help clean up that tint. And also that tid bit about pointing the flash at the big incoming light source, so that it blends into that natural source on the bounce - A bit counter intuitive to 'dump the flash out the big day lit window' but it actually makes sense when you slow down to think about it.
great tuto. For my a7rv, i purchased an expensive sflash sony HVL-F60rm2 whic, compared to my godox V1s and your prophoto, doesn't display the flash power and cannot use in manual mode (called tcm on godox). A pity. I must say that i know this bounce technique for years but any time i am in a event, i don't rely to a boucing wall,... and use magsphere 2, vertical or towars subject, to be sure not missing a shoot. I need to practice more the bouncing.
Hey Pye great video. What if you are in a hall with very High ceilings how do you then bounce the light or use a cto gel? or of your out doors at night how do you warm up the picture with on camara flash?
I always like Pye's videos. Any chance could the same Flash seccion where the walls are not white or beige? Some times the location Flash friendly walls and cellings when trying to bounce Flash well of the surrounding walls. 😉
Great show idea! Something to keep in mind is that when you bounce light off a colored wall it will often times come back that color. So if you want to avoid that you just need to move your flash off camera and onto a light stand and then position that stand where your wall is. So you get the same direction of light but without the color cast from the wall. Thanks for watching the video!
Yep! Those are actually the interior portion of the 5-1 reflectors as @evocati6523 shared in their comment. When you unzip the 5-1 reflectors you can pull that interior scrim out.
Yeah Profoto uses whole numbers. Westcott also has a flash that does as well. It actually makes a lot of sense and we are thinking more and more flash manufacturers are going to start making them this way.
Flash is a great tool that amazingly impractical to use without advanced knowledge. it is extremely user unfriendly. I hate flash. Controls for flash sucks. Chimping all the time. constant testing and retesting. power issues relative to distance. ttl can be awesome or a fraking mess. no universal controllers. but...if u can learn it, it is basically superpower. But MAN i hate flash.
Thank you for articulating what I have always felt. I know what a good photo looks like with flash. Why do I basically have to do calculus every time I want to do that? What the hell is 1/256 +.03 power?
Pye slowly becoming my favorite instructor. MagMod did a smart decision recruiting the man, he is an excellent brand ambassador.
Pye is amazing. Not just a talented photographer but also super good at being able to explain things easily.
Much appreciated Dinko!

That ETTL for test-shot and switching to manual is so logical, when you say and show it. Thanks for that!
Glad it was helpful! Pye has lots of useful tips.
Great stuff! I have always struggled with CTO and come to find out all I had to do was drop the white balance that far down! Wow!

Great to hear! Yeah modifiers are great for both rectangular and round head.
This video was very informative. I’m buying an on camera flash for professional work and these tips will be very helpful.
I feel like I was forced to like and subscribe to your channel! 😆. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant, thank you.

You are the best teacher I know.
Pye is the man!! 🎉
We agree!
You the man, Pye!!!
Wow... the instructor is awesome
Very good! Simple and instructive.
Think I finally understand CTO now - now to go experiment to prove I do!

What microphone are you using? Your audio is super crispy in all of your videos. Very good for a lapel mic.
That's the cleanest live audio I've ever heard
Our video team is pretty amazing!

Great suggestion!
Great topic! I'll put it down and bring it to the team.

Thank you so much that was so useful
Awesome tutorial!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
damn! i watched one video (this one) and learned so much. thanks. Subbed.
Awesome video! This is still all so confusing, but it’s getting better. Can MagMod gels attach to any flash?
I agree that there was a very warm spot around the light. But, isn't the photo taken with cto too "magenta" ? how do you fix that in post ?

Thank you! 🙏
Thank you!
You bet! Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome
Thanks!
Love the tools. What is the white screen on the stand? Is this something I can purchase?
It's the interior diffusor of a 5 in 1 reflector. They are cheap and available everywhere and very useful
Yep! Those are actually the interior portion of the 5-1 reflectors as @evocati6523 shared in their comment. When you unzip the 5-1 reflectors you can pull that interior scrim out.
Thank you for the information!! 😊
I love to see same video using westcott on camera flash. Is ETTL the long form of TTL?
Yes ETTL is the same as TTL.
is the grid plastic?! cheaper?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ THANKS!!!
Thank you
You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed it!
Mirrorless cameras can't use AF assist.

name of scrim?
Did you name your dog Gandalf because you're a wizard with photography

So the flash power on your Speedlite is in whole numbers whereas most others use fractions 😅
Yeah Profoto uses whole numbers. Westcott also has a flash that does as well. It actually makes a lot of sense and we are thinking more and more flash manufacturers are going to start making them this way.
Gandalf the Grey and Gandalf the White all in one!!!
Isn't he a gorgeous dog!
@@MagnetMod Spectacular beauty! His personality seems great too.

Profoto A10

Hell yea that true lies reference hahaha
$1,000 is too much for a speed light Pye. If I was sponsored by Profoto then sure, why not?
Yeah he said as much.
Please please Pye, use cheaper flashes so we know we get the same results regardless if possible 🙏
You can.
Gandalf because he is grey and white
You named him Gandalf because he's grey and white?
