Your diagnosis is spot on even though you haven't seen the second season. It would be nice to see you revisit your points about her during your watchthrough of the next season and see how it holds up. Thank you for doing this, love the reactions!
I think the ending of Season 1 is actually a very fitting moment for diagnosing Jinx. The whole Season we see her going / being pulled back and forth between Powder and Jinx and the last Ep is when she finally makes the call and sits on the Jinx chair. It might not be closing curtains for her arc here yet but it is still a major transition.
Such an informative video! I’m watching as someone who has BPD and was diagnosed at 17, and it really does resonate with me the thought of “I hate you, don’t leave me”. I so remember how bad I used to be and I would constantly text people and say that they were my everything and when they wouldn’t respond instantly, I would freak out. Therapy is wonderful, and I’m glad to be past that stage in my life.
As a BPD / ADHD person, who's recent years have been in involuntary isolation following a stint in rehab, Jinx has been an inspiration, especially the follow-through you'll see next season.
The good thing about season 2 is that you see Jinx bravely healing actively whenever she could have a chance. Jinx is a brave girl, and under other circumstances, a "big fat hero".
WOW!!! After this explanation I am convinced, that I really am Jinx. I fit in every of these categories of borderland syndrome and just like you said: some of them more severe than others, but every categorie that you had listed, I have. But don't worry I am already in therapy, just not that long, I wasn't even diagnosed with anything. I am sure, that if I would live in a more violent world, I would probably behave excatly like her. Just a bit more anxious Anyway, I love that you are checking out this series and your character analysations!! Keep up the good work. Now I am subscribed as well
Jinx has some serious issues because she believes she carries all bad luck with her, and believes that every person she shares relationships with, dies or is harmed. She has a desire to be recognized even in the worst way, and constantly wants to change the feeling she gives for what she has done in the past that she hurts herself by being alone and having friends to help her. SUMMARY: She suffers from guilt, self-rejection, forced recognition, loneliness and fear of herself. She is a complete hero, stronger than anyone. She is art. She is perfect! Perfet!
I always loved the scribbles for the intrusive thoughts and rapid switches of perception and thoughts and moods, and how debilitating and jarring they can be. It really sells the feeling of it to people who don't have the context imo. Hard for a lot of people to really get how or why it could feel so jarring and be so disruptive, cause intrusive thoughts to most people are just, things they know aren't really them and can ignore pretty easily. So someone swinging like that from stuff only in their own head, oscillating between trust and paranoia, or happiness and sadness etc... Within even seconds like that with seemingly no reason, it's hard for people to empathize with. Sympathy is easier, but empathy is really really difficult to engender when the person doesn't have the necessary context.
Glad to see that your not holding back to do these videos just because they’re fictional characters and knowing that it could actually help someone down the line.
In Hollywood movies in the past, the trope of mental illness was that the villain did evil things, and then the punchline of the movie was that the reason for all that was that it was because the character was a psychiatric patient. Arcane changes the trope to make the patient relatable, opening discussions about what mental health is.
Jinx is my favorite character, too. I love her so much. I just want to give her any big hug and tell her that I don't think she's a Jinx. She's amazing.
At the bridge, she mostly wanted to take herself out, so she just let the grenade drop next to herself (maybe even next to her own head, I'm not sure about that), her grenade has a clip on it, if she really wanted Ekko dead, she would have attached it to his jacket.
I know you’ve already mentioned that you don’t think she fits the criteria, and you’ll probably say more in your video on her, but I was wondering what your thoughts were on this There’s an argument that vi may have quiet bpd which I find I resonate with. She’s seen as outwardly high functioning (for the most part) and a lot of her symptoms seem to be internalised but very much present. She constantly self blames and criticises, engages in impulsive behaviour, suppresses her emotions and has immense guilt along with a few other indicators that are more present in s2 (so I won’t mention them to avoid possible spoilers) It’s obviously unconfirmed, but I think it’s an interesting thought. Especially if both the sisters in someway have it, but with different traits being highlighted more strongly in each. Though vi’s symptoms could also be attributed to a variety of other things/conditions so it can also be likely that’s not the case at all I just think that in general people oversimplify vi and underestimate how poor her mental health can be at times. I’m excited to hear your thoughts on her
My friend used to have BPD and she would always message randomly and be upset because i wouldn't reply in a fast enough time and randomly would always say things similar to "I hate you, leave" but she would also ask me to stay around and i had left the friendship after a few years and i still miss her
I was on your live just a few minutes ago I just came back to this video to say again It would be awesome if you reacted to “push me to the floor by the parlotones” They are such an underrated band And this song has a sad but comedic music video! Keep posting sir, Love the videos💗
right when i saw jinx's behaviour after the timeskip i could immediately tell she had BPD! maybe i relate to her emotions a bit too much, but she is so well written, especially with depicting the delusions and hallucinations that can be experienced with BPD. i love jinx so much.
I know you're probably not gonna read this but I'm still going to write a whole ass response to this video LMAOO, this video just hit me like a ton of bricks (in a positive way) and I want to express it, just gimme a moment
Hey I know this isn't the point of this video but I was wondering if you've ever watched Inception I think it would be a good watch if you haven't, even if it Is off camera because I think you would find the things Leonardo DiCaprio really interesting and what he struggles through in this movie I think was really something.
I've come to the conclusion that simple people don't suffer many of the same disorders as more complex, intellectual individuals. Jinx tended to overthink and misconstrue situations. She takes half truths and shapes her own reality around them. Vi blocks with her face. She sees things at face value and stays true to her course. If there's an obstacle, she muddles her way through and pushes on. That said, Vi also has the least character development. She has a singular vision. Although Caitlyn helped Vi to grow in some aspects, she's always stayed true to her heart.
