His vicodin is stronger lol. Actually, methadone is used to get off stuff like vicodin, which is also known as hydrocodone (and paracetamol). It's a potent opioid with a long half life, but it's prescribed legally with the specific purpose of weening one off other opioids and is often the safer option. Methadone is portrayed very strangely in this episode.
Methadone would have been ideal for House, it's not anything like the show makes it look like. It really demonstrates how aged the show is. It was a good ep to flesh out the character but adds onto the stigma of OUD treatment... and it can cause resp depression and qtc prolongation but not it's not dangerous as the show makes it out to be. We just keep a close eye on qtc and can possibly use other qtc prolonging meds, although we try to avoid it in general.
Most docs keep it professional (most of the time, but they are human like anybody), but yes, “treatment teams” like this are extremely common, especially when the patient requires multiple types of specialty care. My mom is a doctor on a team not dissimilar to this one, that’s how I know.
As someone who was on methadone for years and now Suboxone and it has saved my life I will say this episode is ridiculous. Methadone is not that dangerous and it certainly will not kill you the way they say. Of course you need to be careful on it but the same goes for any medication. Being addicted to opiates is much worse as far as behavior and actions.
The only problem with this is that in a later season he tries to quit being a doctor but can't because his leg hurts. Why the hell wouldn't he just go back on the methadone?
House is given multiple opportunities to change his life for the better. Better drugs, therapy, love. He screws it all up. The main reason is the show of course. If House actually changed then the show would have to end. No more money. In-universe....he was a coward to the end, refusing to live.
So, question to anyone who knows how this medicine works, could House not have used methodone selectively or would that be more dangerous? For example say he takes a vacation or perhaps he takes it in the weekends. Being happy sometimes would be better than never being happy one would think.
And methadone is not inherently inappropriate for multiple types of pain, but it does require appropriate dosing and close observation by a trained and experienced pain specialist.
Its pretty rare though. Im on subs. After tramadol and downers...It is not reasonable, subs are stronger but it was combined for me with pain relief. My addiction started after a car hit me on the sidewalk, rip. Its mega hard to be functional with it, I have more pain than this could alleviate enough. Its kinda hard to face strong opioids wont solve your pain or depression. You can be functional in your life helping others, but you will be destructive towards your life, to be honest I think because it sucks your spirituality out. You cant be happy while on it, impossible

You'd think they'd be glad he was on methadone its a replacement therapy drug..
Yeah, it pisses me off how they demonize methadone in this episode. That drug has saved a lot of lives, including my own.
@@YogsenForfoth I have neuropathic pain due to interstitial cystitis. I have already had electrostim implant. and it has not resolved. I take 60mg of methadone/day.
If methadone killed you I would have been dead 20 years ago 😂
True, I don't why they portrazed it this way.
Think of many lives it _has_ saved, too. The other doctors' reactions would have made more sense had House actually been on heroin. I almost have to wonder if they changed the script last second, haha
@@GloriousGandalf I know how many lives it has saved I've been on it for over 20 years
Ngl for me Olivia Wilde is a bombshell even now that she’s in her 40’s she’s still attractive not to mention has a gorgeous eye color!
She’s 40 not 80 ffs
40s is not that old
I like watching House episodes
"Where you going?"
"Nowhere, I'm staying right here, so we can probably discuss this."

House was the best psychology class i ever had...
House MD is the best series i have ever seen..this guy gave me so many lessons.. 💞🖖😊👍
I have never seen house and I have been watching the show and I love it so much. I recently seen this episode especially and it was great. God bless Hugh Laurie☦️ such a great guy and a wonderful actor.
OK sooo.... I had my fix of House and can face the day.
"House is not disrespecting patients something is off"
Mannnn watching this after some bad pain days was too heavy😮💨
“If he buys a new pair of shoes should we let him smoke crack” 😂
Cuddy didn't want House to be happy and nobody can convince me otherwise. She was a witch.
As someone on methadone most of what he said is very untrue. Twice as dangerous as heroin? Yeah. No.
I like to think that Dr. House himself is the one uploading videos on this channel
People: stop taking methadone!
House: stops
People: wtf why?
Does it matter the reason?
sometimes when you are not in pain it actually feels good
It’s interesting that methadone/suboxone is so praised in the recovery world and in the show they make it seem so horrible 😢 for anyone on methadone/suboxone- it’s good for you, it’s good for you to be off whatever you got off of. I am proud of you ❤
For detox ONLY!
Some people use it recreationally as an alternative to gear, so it isn’t all flowers and daisies really.
@Americanpatriot-zo2tk many addicts are on methadone for years especially if they used for years...the opiods change your brain chemistry its more than just a few weeks of detox you don't start feeling normal for at least 2 years.... some people never feel normal again...if it helps these people live their life and keeps them from relapsing then YES it's good for them and they should utilize it under a doctor's care for as long as they need it....even if that's the rest of their life.
@@Eire-327 if you are on a stable dose meaning you take the same dose everyday....you don't get high its not fun ....most methadone clinics you have to dose DAILY in front of them so it's kinda hard to not be on a stable dose when in methadone treatment....methadone is far more controlled than suboxen
What those people don't talk about is that methadone and Suboxone are actually much much harder to get off of than even fentanyl and the withdrawal is not only harder but can last 30 days compared to just 3-5 days with heroin.
In my family both mom and dad have degenerative spine disease, i have scoliosis, honestly opiates are whats kept me walking longer than anything else. . Otherwise i feel like my legs almost been twisted off.
more than fair enough. don't let anyone shame you for taking them. we never hear about the millions who's lives have been saved with this class of drugs
@@14reasons58 I can relate when he says he's chosen to live with out pain. They noted positive changes in his behavior, was not as combative, shaved etc. It should be up to the person to chose the quality of life over the quantity.
Same here. .I refused to take them for years because I was terrified of getting addicted. So, was on arm crutches for years because of a spine that is shot. When my shoulders started to deteriorate, I went on an Opiate. I have never been " High" from them, I have only gotten pain relief. I still have a lot of pain, but I can actually function enough to take care of myself. I walk every day now. When the pain gets to be too .uch, and it's not time for my meds, I use other means of some relief. Yoga has helped a lot, too.
@@reneet5858 othe NSAIDs absolutely do not work for me so I take Kratom and it allows me to function. They were leary of giving me narcotics in my youth so I had to get them thru other means. Beside the fsmily history and my scoliosis I've had 2 amputations and reattachments blown shoulders and been told my hands have been broken 100s od times and this was by the time I was 23. I work as a butcher and sometimes you will be putting a 60lbs slab of frozen meat on a safe it fall over break mt hand and I just keep working, never went to the doctor. I'm close to 50 now.
Methadone... Dangerous? If someone was on vicodin, methadone would not be dangerous. Dose dependent of course
House's Vicodin is now officially jealous.
Nothing like a boss handing him an ultimatum and having him call it immediately
he shaved
"Maybe he had a great cup of coffee, or a tremendous bowl movement." 😂
Methadone would have been ideal for House, it's not anything like the show makes it look like. It really demonstrates how aged the show is. It was a good ep to flesh out the character but adds onto the stigma of OUD treatment... and it can cause resp depression and qtc prolongation but not it's not dangerous as the show makes it out to be. We just keep a close eye on qtc and can possibly use other qtc prolonging meds, although we try to avoid it in general.
My leg doesn’t hurt anymore 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
It was heartbreaking the way he said that.
I got the best timing for an ad break. It was the second Wilson said “you idiot!” As house is puking
"This is the only me you get."
0:25 do doctors actually sit in a room and talk to each other this way?
Most docs keep it professional (most of the time, but they are human like anybody), but yes, “treatment teams” like this are extremely common, especially when the patient requires multiple types of specialty care.
My mom is a doctor on a team not dissimilar to this one, that’s how I know.
In the end, House needed the high more than he needed to be out of pain.
"Hello?"
"House is on heroin."
*Blank stare and trying not to showcase any emotion in front of House*
this is a prime example of ''great minds are always in trouble''.

Bruh, this show is so good.
I’m pretty sure Wilson enjoyed seeing Foreman do that to House 😂
Hugh Laurie is beyond House.
Fun fact: Wilson violated HIPAA and House didn't dispose of a controlled substance properly.
I think im going in Heroin guys
Why? House wasn't using heroin.
Bro died and still cares more about the patients. Based.
The only problem with this is that in a later season he tries to quit being a doctor but can't because his leg hurts. Why the hell wouldn't he just go back on the methadone?
House has such a legit accent and mannerisms, it’s hard to even see Hugh Laurie in there
I would have stopped carrying about House years ago
House is given multiple opportunities to change his life for the better. Better drugs, therapy, love. He screws it all up. The main reason is the show of course. If House actually changed then the show would have to end. No more money. In-universe....he was a coward to the end, refusing to live.
So, question to anyone who knows how this medicine works, could House not have used methodone selectively or would that be more dangerous? For example say he takes a vacation or perhaps he takes it in the weekends. Being happy sometimes would be better than never being happy one would think.
Who needs immediate chest compressions when you have the nipple cripple 😂😂
House's comments are always startling, and can lead to confusing dreams.

I like how like House, his team also assumes zebras as the first thing
6:25 Hawk Tuah
And methadone is not inherently inappropriate for multiple types of pain, but it does require appropriate dosing and close observation by a trained and experienced pain specialist.
It's much safer than taking handfuls of Vicodin which will kill your liver.
