Dunno if there's any relevance to this or not, I've done this before but only once ever got Mario bouncing out to the left like in the video. Every other time, other than the pause to let the bridge collapse and Bowser to fall, Mario jumped up and went straight down. Wonder if it matters the frame or whatever...

Not only do you know so much about this game, but you have the insane muscle memory required to pull off frame-perfect pixel-perfect tricks with ridiculous consistency. I could listen to you talk about this game for hours

i've never been a speed-runner in any capacity, but I always loved trudging through the mario and sonic games as a kid. I distinctly remember encountering at least a handful of these glitches back in the day when I was like 7 years old, and either accepting them as random occurrences, or seeing enough of a pattern to reproduce them (the one where you put tiles close to the left edge of the screen then jump up to the top of the stage was one I found by accident, but subsequently tried to take advantage of whenever I could make it happen... getting the hidden 1-up in world 1-2 was the easiest example, because if you missed your chance to get on the two rows of destructable bricks, you could just inch forward a bit then backtrack and shimmy your way up the left side of the screen) this video was lots of fun, and yes, where -you- hit a block dictates which direction something above it bounces :P

I've known about a lot of these things for decades, but not exactly why for some of them. Like, what exactly is the reason that Spinies can turn into Koopas when you hit the block they're standing on near the left edge of the screen? And, what determines the color of the Koopa you get?
Maybe it's the game trying to un-allocate memory from the spiny as it's playing its last few animation frames and as it deallocates it's setting memory to zero. Say the first couple of bits determine what type of enemy it is and then its position (position would probably be best to unallocate last). And while the game is unallocating it mario hits it which means that it should spawn an upside down animation of the enemy type hit and the green koopa just happens to be the 0th enemy? I'm no expert about how the nes allocates and unallocates memory but I know that the games were very limited and removing things that were unnecessary was important to get the game to run.

Actually there, it just restarts the room when you go in any of the pipes. So you'll just appear at the beginning of the warp zone area over and over again. Good question!
After watching your minimum A press video and coming back to watch this, it makes a lot of sense now where you were messing around with some of these glitches
Strange that Super Mario didn't follow non-super Mario enemy physics. In the previous Mario game before Super Mario Bros. (the arcade game Mario Bros...still one of the best two player classic arcade games ever) the way the enemy bounced after you hit the floor from below DID depend on where it was and not where you hit it. I guess things were a little different in that Mario Bros. didn't have distinct blocks (although it must have had hitboxes), other than the POW block that only Flutterflies could ever go on, and only then fairly rarely.
It makes me so happy that Kosmic uploads good quality content and is one of the best gamers ever! Have any of you ever succeeded in jumping out of the water in water levels, and I mean actually jumping out of the water? Is it a glitch as I've only succeeded in it like once or twice ever. I think it was in 2-2 where there's the green blocks and I could jump over the green blocks. I tried so long to get out of the water at the end of the level to see if there's anything over the end pipe.
