For those wondering, this happened because Kosmic was targeted by both of the last opponents and he was targeting attackers, so he was targeting them both at once. Every time he killed the Lakitus, he effectively set himself up to receive double the amount back, so long as his opponents would manage to kill them. They were using lots of stars as well, so basically, the amount of Lakitus was doubling every 15 seconds.
wait they duplicate? i thought they just got sent to a random person of the 2. imagine if they added private games with friends, you could duplicate things until either your switch or the server crashes
@@user-yl3ti8jb6j You can see when he kills with multiple targets that the enemy image goes to all of his targets; I have seen him with six targets at once and it gets truly absurd watching all the sprites flying across the screen.
LOL I JUST SAW THIS VIDEO. I would say I AM a really good player, but def not the best. Case in point, I actually came 3rd in that match 😆. Never seen that many lakitus before!
Also a fun little detail. I was trying to get a high coin score during this match so I was hoarding a lot of coins. Kosmic actually a KOs me and gains 200 coins! Saving him in the long run and netting himself a win!
You know how some people joked about how tossing around enemies to other players created Mario Maker enemy spam on Day 1? This would legitimately be even worse than what Mario Maker can do if it wasn't for the item roulette
This was so sick, not even clickbait. I got so worried when I saw the 100 lakitus. And also 10:50 . That save was legendary! Congrats Kosmic! I wouldn't have survived that one! :)
Wasn't the guy in the top left corner Tatituki and not Zimbo ? If so, Tatituki was the great player there as he survived for 3 full extra minutes ! His routines in early stages are super clean and consistent, he kills almost everything and goes for almost every power-up. In the end, he's small Mario and does quite the job at avoiding stuff in the castle... I don't recognize the last stages he was in, but they were not early ones either ! If Zimbo goes for the coins, Tatituki goes for the kills !
10:37 standing at the exit of those three lanes, with a dozen lakitus throwing spinies but yourself being shielded by the levels above you, if you have a fire flower here, you could just stand there and kill the spiny spam, farming seconds and swamping your enemies.
This is the most intense match I have ever witnessed before. I can't believe I have missed so much of this game...So, I didn't know Mario 35 was a thing until yesterday. The reason for this is we (fiancee and I) play everything across all platforms and every generation. So many new games hit these past 4 to 6 months that it's been a deluge of nonstop gaming goodness... Perhaps the biggest reason we haven't really paid much attention to the Switch is the launch of the 9th generation. We were among the few lucky people to get both the Xbox Series X and PS5 *physical at launch. We play side-by-side every day after work and haven't really had a reason to stop...until I found out about Mario 35. Since I only have 15 or so days left I'm going to be hitting it hard. Famous last words- "Send me a trillion enemies I say, a trillion!" Yet, you still nailed the win. ;)
I was in a match like this today, where I literally had six Lakitus on my screen at once. Needless to say, if you don't have a metric buttload of coins saved up for items once something like that happens, you are royally _hosed._
Yeah it looks like the strategy in top 3 is to get your opponents to stop and get the death timer or force them into hazards that must be dealt with with coins.
2:52 You could've gotten an item right there. There are actually 6 hidden coins blocks in that area with 3 all the same height as the one you hit and then 3 more above those, but one block to the right of each. I remember finding them when I was little and never understood what their purpose was, but I guess they figured an open area with nothing might prompt some players to jump around and find hidden stuff
It's a bit too much of a time waste there to get the 6 blocks for 6 coins since you are always counting down on time and enemies can pile up from other people if you don't move along the screen, plus he would already know this because he is the SMB1 world record holder.

Just a tip, you get more timer points if you stomp on enemies compared to fireballing them and you get even more if you get a combo (stomping on multiple enemies one after the other)
Its wild how the game is completley different once it hits this point. Collecting as many coins as possible in the beginning is essential to surviving these lakitu death storms. I still haven't pulled a W from one yet.
It's crazy how he can actually play this like a Speedrunner and still win! Considering this is a game that isn't really supposed to be played that way. It's actually better to stop and purposely earn time at times by hopping on multiple enemies in a row or kicking a shell around. But this guy pulls it off amazingly! Guess that's just the skill level we're seeing here.
fun fact: if you are in bonus stages or underground subareas, players cant send you enemies(no enemy spam jank).these areas are safe zones. fun fact 2: you can kill bowser with single koopa shell fun fact 3: when you are not active(not moving) for 15 seconds, timer speeds up
i believe death timer still happens after a long time, regardless of wheiter you're 1v1. i recall one match with 6 players left where i got death timer
I had a match last almost 20 minutes once. I am LOVING this game because I enjoy playing and practicing at Mario and SOMEHOW I'm better than other people at Mario of all things. Every time someone loses a match early on I'm just like, "Wait, what?" I mostly either average 1st place or 2nd place. Am I good at Mario or are there a lot of people playing Mario who haven't played SMB1 in their entire life? I beat Mario as a 4 year old child so... Maybe it's just ingrained in my DNA at this point. And it was glorious. I would love to see a time when he's sending them to more than just 2 haha! That would start to look crazy
So the game really heats up when you get to the lakitu levels, can't wait to see others get there
