Hearing Sco rip thru a speedy Eyes is just ...heaven. I love that this Jazz hero of mine ended up in the Dead Solar System in the 21st Century. For a COMPLETELY different and awesome take, check out Gilad Hexelman's version.
When this first popped up in my feed I was shocked. Did my favorite jazz club in San Francisco reopen after decades??!!!? I was at the old Keystone in SF constantly in the '70's and '80's until Todd Barkan closed it down in '83. I saw too many incredible shows at that tiny club. But alas, after researching online it turns out that Barkan re-opened the club under the same name in Baltimore in 2019!!
I've been following JS for years, saw him in the nineties at a small club in Tahoe CIty--Humpties (with all my Deadhead friends, I might add...) Now this! Wow JS, never knew he was a DeadHead! I have tix to Frost in June to see him play with Phil and Friends. Woohoo!
Longtime admirer of Mr. Scofield. Nice to hear him cover a well-loved Hunter/Garcia classic! For some more tasty guitar-based, power trio instrumentals, try Wayne Krantz. Lots of his live stuff on YT. Rock on 🤘🏾
13:18 Round Midnight teaser. Hah. It just dawns on me - the title says "Late" and he looked at his watch earlier, during the drum solo. Sco probably played that teaser for the other band members, as a nudge, like, c'mon guys, let's wrap this up, it's midnight!
Thanks, Sco! You've resolved the conflict between my inner jazz snob and inner Deadhead. I knew it!
It's so funny. The first time I heard Scofield I knew he likes Grateful Dead. Awesome that he covered a couple of their songs.. BIG LOVE to this guy
Sco is so beautiful. Absolutely one of my all-time faves.
I can’t even describe how much I enjoyed that.

The drummer’s bass drum drowned everything out and not right for this song. Sorry guys, not this time. Ouch!
