First time I saw them was in 1982 in Amsterdam. Just went to see Wim Overgouw and Scofield,Swallow and Nussbaum were playing as well. That's where it all started. Scofield is the soundtrack of my live.
he’s been playing crazy unique bass lines on lps of straight jazz and more experimental forms for many, many decades, and is a composer as well, i believe. I don’t know enough about his career except that he is legendary in the jazz community. Anyone who loves this ought check out the duet lp w the late Charlie Haden and Pat Metheny… of course there are dozens/ hundreds of amazing lps of acoustic bass n jazz guitar duets. Dig deep… Jim Hall… Ray Brown… etc
We finally get to see John playing a Gibson! Sounds beautiful! All these years of Ibanez endorsement really hurt a Gibson fan such as I, as I know how great someone like John Scofield could sound on a Gibson. This is the proof!
Ecco a Voi la meraviglia di condividere la passione di suonare uno strumento con una intensità ed Amore che sconfigeranno le tenebre... La Luce trionferà... Grazie John e Steve... ❤
Gorgeous - I met John on his Blue Matter tour & once again a few years later.... sharp as a knife with a wicked dry sense of humour! Glad to have seen him with Miles in London - Mike Stern was there also 😊 Superb solo from Steve at 4:58!
Awesome to see Steve Swallow playing an accoustic bass guitar! Love to see how he plays up close like this. Also, listening to him harmonize on certain notes... pretty amazing. They're both amazing.
Thank you for this post between these 2 giants, which in the evening of their lives offers us a moment of sweetness, tenderness and laughing melancholy in this somewhat dark world period. Greetings from France
I'd always loved the round and soft sound of Steve's bass played with a pick. I had the opportunity to see them live in Paris (at the New Morning) and I remember the quality of the audience : not a single applause when the choruses switched from one another, only at the end of the tunes. Was a great evening. Thanks for posting !
@@Intao I’m not sure if you are responding to my comment, or commenting on the Gibson that Sco is playing in this particular video. Yes, it looks like an ES330 in the video. My reference was to his first few albums where he is pictured playing a dot neck cherry ES335. I went to see him and chatted with him in a small Massachusetts club back in 1981, and he was playing that same dot neck ES335. It was shortly after that, that he switched to the Ibanez. Somewhere along the line, he picked up a telecaster and can be seen playing that in video footage.
@@kenster3554 his first "serious" electric was an outlaw Ibanez blue tele he bought back some 15 ys. ago. He switched from that Gibson (in very bad shape) when he was offered the Ibanez that decades later - with some mods he suggested - become the John Scofield signature model. Afa tele are concerned, he recently bought a Nachocaster
@@frakognome4434 I was responding to Faz99Masters comment, “first time I see Sco play a Gibson “. I first became aware of Sco around 1980 playing in clubs in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Saw these guys with a drummer I knew from CT Adam Nussbaum play at 7th Ave South in NYC. Stevie Wonder came in sat next to me with a few women in tow. I was sitting with pals Tim Smith, Eric Pearson, Randy and Michael Brecker rounded out the table. Spectacular night,,,WOW!
How can you even think beauty of music is for you to enjoy while you are killing ukrainians in their own country? Shame on every russian that doesn’t speak up!
This video illustrates that when scofield actually plays a truely high quality guitar he drops the overdrive. He once said in an interview that he preferes his ibanez semi hollow over the gibson one. In my opinion he said it for marketing purposes. What do you guys think?
Swallow is 83 years young here. Amazing.
This is from February 14th 2018 so Steve Swallow was 76 here, him being born in October 1940
Zo mooi en zo ontroerend !! Prachtig gewoon, met hart 💖 & Ziel 👍 spelen die oudere heren 😉 !! THX !!
Beautiful. Shred-free virtuosity.
Asti... Tellement !!!!
YES YES YES YES YES it breathes effortlessly and beautifully
Thanks God, I saw both of them live... and many-many great jazz musicians, too. It's been a good life.
"musitions"? hunh?

He's hitting notes here-
shredders watch this. John says so much because he has an unbelievable understanding of the guitar. So expressive
And tonal comprehension too. This is a guy who knows where he wants the sound to go and gets there.
Love it. I took lessons with Scofield in the 80’s. Nice guy great player
Lets say one of the BEST!
That is so totally sweet and pure. Those guys transcend their respective boundaries.
So beautiful... I am listening to it and I just think of grabbing my guitar and play anything, whatever comes to my fingers.
thank godness I clicked the play button, this is beautiful
most perfect way to end my day is hearing this.
This isn't music, it's what all music tries to achieve.
Love is all I hear! Man, what a musicianship!
Magnifique à voir et à entendre . Les grands musiciens sont toujours en recherche et nous enchantent au fil des ans .
Grande leçon. Merci .

The real proof is that Sco sounds like Sco on any axe..
Sounds way better.
He started his career on a Gibson watch Billy Cobham Montreux 76

Truly great music and brilliant artists. Just wow!
The bass is blowing me Away!
Saw them play this live with Bill Stewart on drums about 10 years back in Mains Germany. Every note perfect. Both players monumental.
Welcome back Steve! Those two guys have been playing together for nearly 50 years...
Steve Swallow is amazing. Very nice duo ! 🙏🎶
A Homage to Carla Bley
Bravo!! What a stunning performance!! I can feel and see the life that both of them have led.
That bass accompany is just amazing.... setting the supporting tone for Scofield's lead melody sooo well that full and warm clean tone sounds so good!

Scofield founding his best sound at the end of his career. 🙏
Gibson 😏
@@TheSecondNature, fingers😊
@@rifosi he's always had those! But it's unusual to see him with a Gibson considering he's played Ibanez guitars for decades
What a FAT sound on that 330!
Such a mighty fine touch and sound guys❤❤
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
I saw these two in a concert with the Mike Gibbs big band, many moons ago.
Seems like a different world now.
Beautiful.
Clean ES330 and 5 string acoustic electric. No gimmics, just 2 virtuosos listening and playing.
Love it.
Scofield and Gibson😮
I proudly own the same Ibanez AS200 he plays, but this sound he achieved here with the Gibson is one of the best.
Two of my all time favourite guitar players . Thanks for posting this.
Pure nectar

They played with Bill Stewart
They both play every single note with such a commitment. What great musicians they are.
I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that Stevie Wonder would know what jazz musicians to catch live

What a beautiful music.
I remember John played on some songs off Miles Davis' 1985 album. That's where I first heard of John Scofield.
Lovely sound. Anyone know when this was recorded?
Superb playing very cool
These guys are cooking.
There was a Steve Swallow that helped me record some tunes in about 72, operating as Xibalba.... Same Steve?
Great music it good for your soul

Love the quote from "Someone to Watch Over Me," right there at the very end.
