Keep up the groove...!
seeing Scofield and MonoNeon along side is a break in the music vortex
Exactly! This is how much fun and how things can be in music when the habitual crap of showbiz and primadonnas egos thing is cut off from the equation
YES! I'm so fucking tired of the "business."
It isn’t, it is as it should be.
they must be having so much fun nowadays
'76 Had the distinct pleasure seeing John S w/ George Duke Billy Cobham Band! along w/ Alphonso Johnson, Checkout the live Not for casual ears!
One thing i love about the funk world is how even the players with the crazy impressive chops are down to lay back and serve the vibe
That’s cuz the funk is holy. Everyone must bow.
It takes a pro to keep it simple
just 1 rule: just be cool
Exactly 💯. Everything is dans la retenue
So true. A master uses the right tool, not all the tools.
I appreciate mono neon just laying a solid bass line down on this track
He is a good bassist when he lays it down deep, slow and steady.
Yes, it’s great fun to hear him in this context. Of course, he’s more than capable. There’s so much music inside of him that his personal recordings reflect a different expression of creativity. All these musicians are pros and this setting is a cool way to show off a different side of their chops. I truly love their vibe!
First track I enjoyed with him on it. Too much flash usually.
@@Mr.Bassman ...He can play whatever's necessary when necessary...he can also play things in a creative way that leads many people to judge him off of a few clips.
This kid can sub for anyone he wants to and play the song cause he's a real pro...
He just has his own approach to playing that some people just don't get down with, and that's perfectly ok with him.
He has an audience and he's speaking to them.
@@Mr.Bassman change your name.
Man, Sco is one of those rare few that can completely blow me away with like one note. What a personality on the instrument.
Scofield has such a distinctive sound, he plays 2 notes and you already know who’s playing. Great proof that tone is in the hands
Scofield playing with the right musicians.
You can tell that he's enjoying
himself big time!☺️
Scofield is a modern Miles Davis since he's always finding younger musicians to play with which in turn just expands his playing. Legend.
totally agree...
I think Prince gets credit for putting MonoNeon on, RIP
Guess he learned that from playing with Miles when he was young ;)
I don't like this comparison. Don't know why. Won't prove you right or wrong. Anyway: Awesome groove!
Cheers
The sock on the bass is what makes this sound great.
It mutes the strings and more importantly, looks p coo
It facilitates a slightly "wooly" tone!😉
MonoNeon rocks that all the time. Check out his stuff, it is more experimental and pretty neat.
And it prevents it from ever going out of tune
@@evanpragliola4947 uh no: coming from a bassist of over 20 years.
That guy comping chords on the second keyboard is like so humble...the drummer and bassist too...just letting everybody else shine. No ego. And the rythem guitar is so subtle... dude's along for the ride.
Such a small bird, and yet such a feast.
Scofield joining the Scary Pockets is a dream come true! For a moment I was disappointed Louis Cole didn't join in, but that lasted until the drummer hit that snare drum. Love that wonderful thick sound and his lazy timing that blends so well with scofield's playing.
I’ve come to trust their selections of players, but Louis Cole is the future of music 😃
Lmao yeah I was thinking the same but then the intro beat had me killed groovyaf/10
Louis Cole is like the guy from dragon ball who trains in hella gravity to become insanely strong. It won't be long before he can just look at a drum set and it will explode instantly
Oh also check out yussef dayes, he's like the London jazz version of LC
I would say 'joining scary goldings'
@@sionnachs_workshop this
Drummer deserves credit in the title, Lemar is TIGHT
Crisp.
So Swampy it sticks to walls. LOVE THIS.
love your comment steph...!!
You know your life is working out when you look around the room and see these fantastic musicians you're playing with.
Mononeon just casually laying down perfect bass grooves. Love it
Scofield is a legend
The bass player that refuses to be overlooked😎
I love these "simple" just-get-along type funk songs. Nothing simple about it of course, but it could just funkily mosey along for hours, discussing things between guitar and organ, and all participants really. I'm sure a clever bass solo could've been thrown in for good measure too. Nice groove all!!
this phrasing is otherworldly, it just moves and rolls like a laid back cruise
Scofield is a living legend and is always looking for talented young musicians to play
I love how music dissolves concepts like race and age. Beautiful
Dig those pilot headphones
The CEO of Patreon is the one calling the shots. If he doesn't like the vibe, you're out. See the way he's pointing at the door while he's playing? If HE stops nodding his head and bopping, that's where you're going.
Scofield is unreal, just like everyone else in this jam. His little phrase at 1:19 is so simple and short lived yet so unforgettable, I Love it as much as anything else I’ve heard in forever. That’s what I love about his playing he’ll have billions of these tiny moments that no one else can recreate.
I stole a John scofield cd in high school and had to lay down with a cold compress on my head after listening to it.
Worth it 🚨
which one?
It’s a vibe…it’s a groove …it’s funk …it’s jazz ..it’s all dat all day long 🐐
The Funk is livin' in here...
The thing I love most about this is Ryan clearly is so happy to be playing with Scofield
OMG that snare drum tone is BEAUTIFUL!
MonoNeon sitting so far down in the pocket he's touching the floor. Amazing
Great drums!
It´s so fun to watch Ryan´s reactions to Sco´s playing. Sco never ceases to amaze in playing out/in and his phrasing and note picking is out of this world!
This project really is a a dream combo with Mono and Larry in a single time event + the drum works and Jack.
Love it too! Sco phrasing is always perfectly in the right timing and tone.
Scofield is the funkiest guitar man alive.
Scary Pockets is suddenly the best channel on the internet
Woah😮....Jay-Z playing drums, Snoop dogg on bass and Scofield of course 🥳...this is awesome😄
I fell down a musical rabbit hole 3 songs ago and I hope to never find my way back!!!
This is one of the nicest, most mellow drum tones I've ever heard.
Harry Connick whips out the six string.
Lemar holding it down. What a pocket!
Scary Goldings IV is batting 1000
5 Guys in a room playing music, great tones, well mixed and that is one needs.
scary pockets makin my dreams come true
Scofield drives the groove as usual. Nothing makes me smile like his special art of tone.
yes everyone in the same room bleed and all and no headphones except for Larry. That's the way to do it! YES
I am rooting for the drummer. So so good. Nuances and touch 🥰
0:41 Jack grooving so hard he has to hold onto the railing for balance.
Better every time I listen...Waoohh...
Making me hungry! Gimme a side of green onions to go with my bird!
Lemar always sounds beautiful on those drums. One of the most mature & tasteful drummers since we were kids. ❤
So good. John S. never lets you down
This is what being overstaffed at work feels like
Scofield is so stanky - paisley shirt, ball cap, and that phrasing. What a combo.
I freaking love this band so much!!
I love when Jon hits these little warbly murmur notes
Ryan always have the look of someone who just woke up and the coffee is barely kicking in, while Jack looks so excited like he's on his third line of coke already and I love it!!!!
I never get tired of this video.
i love it,no unnecessary chopping, great feel good music
SPECTACULAR CAMERA WORK!!! People often overlook the importance of the camera operator also knowing the form of the song. Bravo!
I discoverd larry goldings when i bought john scofield's albums "hand jive"and "groove elation".as a faithfull fan of John's music it's a pleasure to see him performing with larry once again.besides, larry's keybords sounds really like jimmy mcgriff...it's just fantastic and great!!...thancks for the sharing.
OMG so good. The look on Ryan's face says it all.
I just love John Scofield and Larry together. I think the Goldings/Scofield combo is the best manifestation of Scofield's body of work. And MonoNeon has become one of my newest favs.
I will never ever get tired of Scot's lines!! Just that groove...Oh man!
Impossible guitar tone!!! Sco is just awesome
Scofield is the coolest... Plays such hip stuff
I danced all around the living room !!!!!! ❤️🔥
Funk is the kind of song that already has its own lyrics, a rhythmic dance vibe, it's real music.
This sounds like the opening song for a private investigator TV show set in 1990's L.A.
🔥🔥🔥 So great to hear Larry and Sco back together again after all these years.
Groovalicious
That guitar tone just sounds so incredible with the Hammond. I feel like I just got religion and got pregnant at the same time.
I assume you have, but just in case, check out everything from Medeski, Scofield, Martin, and Wood. Medeski is awesome on organ/keys, and Scofield delivers as always.
🤣🤣👌❤
B3 and electric guitar are the best pairing. The B3 is kind of like a horn section, but doesn't swallow the guitar like a horn section with its massive fatness can do. The guitar can be anything from acoustic, eg, Thank You from Led Zeppelin II to the monster crunch of Uriah Heep. Hot n Nasty by Humble Pie, with Steve Marriott on guitar, and Stephen Stills on B3, may he the funkiest chart ever but a rock band.
scofield was recently interviewed by rick beato and rick asked him about his history of playing with organ players. great conversation worth checking out.
Sean, are you, with respect, a man or a woman ?
LARRY GOLDINGS and JOHN SCOFIELD #1!!!!
John Scofield has such a fantastic unique voice and style. impossible to imitate or mistake for another player.
Never knew Mr. Scofield had so much funk in him!
Check out Hand Jive and A go go
@@dragondix thanks dude, that was the best suggestion ever. I'm forever in your gratitude 😁💯💥
John is a legend! Got to see him live 4 years ago with medesky Martin and wood and this song is definitely on par with their stuff! Scofield's got it all: incredible melodies, personal phrasing, a tone to die for a and and amazing sense of rhythm and groove
Dude in the red hat is just stoked to be along for the ride
🤣 truth
Love how simple Scofield's pedal setup is!
I think John lives in the zone. What a legend.
Good Lord that organ tone is so siiiick!
I was smashing the like button in time to this groove and now im a father
They are amazing. I can go off to the.... now. Thank you. Scofield is the epitome. And no one has to step on each other. The pocket. Listen to Tower of Power also. Expand the envelope (or go backwards in time, when there was talent and the people who practiced together, not alone in their room)
Drum sound and feel great balance to it
Some super epic talent in one small room!!!
😃
They're not playing, they're feeling..
Over and Over again!
Also, shouts to the amazing camera work
4:00 no words needed
Nice to see you guys back in action. Sco + MonoNeon + Scary Goldings = Insta Favorite.
That snare... So laid back and so present at the same time. Love your work man.
Scofield’s Mastersound. Love these Guys.
Scofield sounds like Jeff Beck here and I love it
Larry and John fit perfect with these guys
John Scofield for President!
This is so awesome! Everyone is just jammin' and so into the music. MonoNeon always has this look and air about him that says, "I've been doing this forever. Just waitin' for you to catch up"!
I'm frustrated: I can't double-tap on the like button. It really is incredibly gr∞vy! I love the beginning, with that out of time chord from Jack. More, please!
Out of time chord? 🤔🤔
@@francescodefendi3201 I meant off beat. But now that I listen to it once more, I'm not that sure... 😅
@@abacquias listen to the drummer’s counting 1 2… Jack’s first chord is on the first pulse. Goldings’s chords are up beat
I love you, John Scofield!
I would love to hear them live in a cozy club! I can't wait that corona ends.
The more I hear Dywane Thomas in different musical contexts, I am convinced that The Human Oven Mitt can handle any groove, no matter how hot.
Goldings organ sound is infectious. What a sound.
My hands down favorite Jazz guitarist.
great dancer on the left👌👌👌👌
Had me at the count-in and fill.
