I remember the first time I heard Tomorrow Land... I was 19 at the time, the year the album came out, up late in bed listening to a French language jazz radio program I somehow could pick up in Blaine, WA. It's such a beautiful bass line, soothing, nostalgic, contemplative, and somehow kind yet melancholic (my own personal emotional response.) I couldn't understand the announcer's French afterwards but I heard "John Scofield" and "Uberjam" and later found the CD at a public library in San Jose CA... what an incredible overall album and song in particular. Thanks Sco and crew, it's really been a great friend to have.
Yes, Louis Cato. Fantastic, just almost other-worldly. I looked him up online. He has a homepage. It turns out that he's a multi-instrumentalist. What a gifted musician!!!
Dub Dub , for me one of the most beautiful pieces of jazz rock I have heard since last year . I continue listening it, with great admiration of John Scoffiel's guitar performance . Very good feeling with the other three good musicians of the band. Thank you
Its also interesting to note that Sco's guitar tone on Tele sounds very similar to his beloved Ibanez, just with more bite and twang. Further proof that its the skill and expertise of the craftsman rather than the tools he uses that creates the beautiful piece of art...the art in this case being live music.
I love the little child-like melody lines he throws in now and then - before letting rip weaving in and outside of the scale through intervallic hoops of flame-grilled jazz-fusion
I think that's part of the appeal of that Scofield has, part of why he attracts a lot of younger listeners. My first album with him was A Go Go and I started playing it on poker nights with my non jazz head friends, they liked it and then I found out about Uberjam :)
@@HaniJIsmailI guess it has it's traditions in Thelonious Monk. He played like a child prodigy, with more musicianship than chops. Not that Scofield has no chops
I can't get enough of this set. John's playing is just so classy and tasty and real and pure and natural with raw spirit and soul. The grooves are just killer and everyone syncs so well together. Cato's drums are absolutely incredible especially on Jungle Fiction, just sensationally tight and inspiring. I just can't stop listening to the whole performance. Amazing! Cheers gentleman.
Can't believe how skilled Louis Cato is. Jungle Fiction solo is crazy good. Now he's leading the Colbert tonight show band on CBS. So cool. Happy for him.
I have been digging the live Sco-Uberjam band stuff with this drummer for a few years now, thanks to these live gigs that get posted. I was one day old when I realized THIS Loius Cato is the same guy I see on the Colbert show and who I JUST saw at the Jazz Fest in Newport.
give it time. worth a couple listens... i love this guy, you can tell the influences come from all over... hes a jazz guy yet youre hearing albert king bends mixed in there... crazy stuff, love it.
Wow!! I haven't seen nor heard form Andy Hess since he left the Mule! Man, what an aweasome musiciain... I could listen to that dude play bass all week! Andy, If you happen to read this....GM needs you back brothah! I like Jorgy, but dam, you are just a big part of my Mule life! Keep going man, where ever you play it's alwats a treat. Peace Bro.
Most folks don't realize that John Scofield is more than just a 'Jazz' guitarist. He came up playing R&R, Blues, Soul, Funk, Jazz, etc. All these styles encapsulate what he does to this day, and why his bands reflect his need to shift and evolve his musical focus...no easy feat. I recall going to one of his shows back in the 90s expecting him to bring the Chambers/Grainger rhythm section and play all his Blue Matter/Loud Jazz material. Instead he brought a Jazz trio and played nothing but Hard Bop/Swing original compositions. I was pissed off to highest level and almost walked out after a couple of tunes...LOL! But I decided to stay, and it forced me to open my musical ears and LISTEN. I'm a better musician and music lover because of it. Do it Sco...
Went to HS w/ Scofield and also studied with the same guitar teacher, Alan Deane, who seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth but was an awesome teacher. Scofield had a fusion band then called Simple Truth, which did some Blood, Sweat and Tears covers (all I can remember). He was always excellent. I never knew him as a beginner lol.
@@GlenMcGlone It's funny. The better my ear gets, the more of a scofield tune or solo is there just waiting for me. Like, "dude, we've been here for 10 years, you kept missing us.."
WOW! I give this show a 10. Jungle Fiction ( 10:05 ) is one of my all time favorites and this version is off the charts! I'm a new person...I'll never be the same.................
Although I am not a jazz snob and try my best to listen to a wide range of stuff, when I get tired of listening to guitar players even my beloved Pat Metheny, John Scofield always brings something fresh even when it is the same tune/recording that I've listened 90 times before.
I initially didn't enjoy Boogie Stupid, but Mr. Scofield's playful rendition completely changed my perspective. It has now become my favorite due to its enjoyable and comical approach 🤣
I love how this performance is a drawing a myriad of responses ranging from respect to revulsion. Miles Davis would be proud one his musical sons is following in his footsteps.
Louis loses a stick at 21:24 -- it goes flying -- what looks like a small cowbell drops onto his kit at 21:34... Even at that tempo and intensity, doesn't lose ANY momentum! Total pro!
It was the cardboard sleeve off the new stick; He continued to fill with one hand (barely noticeable) then played like 6 or 8 bars with the sleeve stuck on there!
Quite surprisingly Scoff, after dropping off his famous out-of-tune tone, reached the star dome once again, making his superb craftmanship even more enjoyable. He's the man. Thank you, Scoff, had the great time whilst listening to this gig.
The music of Faso is an inexhaustible source of sweetness. It allows us to plunge deep inside ourselves and at the same time resonate with our fellow man, Yé Lassina Coulibaly❤❤❤

Saw Scofield live in 2019 in Scotland and it was one of the best concerts of my life
Sco is twisted like a corkscrew . His phrasing is unreal .
I know...it is just mesmerizing. The Sco is one cool cat!
I've always referred to his style as "mildly drunk."
Love his style.
@@Mrfabby1972 The way he bends his notes is very trumpet-like. I agree
Same reason I always appreciate Scott Henderson. Take familiar structures and twist and invert everything into new angles.
The drummer, alone, is enough to put any music enthusiast into a trance. Fantastic. John Scofield and the other two are a wonderful "overdose."

Sco is the most brilliant , the most unusual, the most unpredictable, the most unique guitar player that ever exists.
