2. Green Tea
3. Hammock Soliloquy

5. Over Big Top - Видеоклипы
Scofield gets my attention and keeps it more than 99% of guitarists out there. One of the best ever.
Hes a gift that keeps on giving
whenever he gets too rocky and pentatonic-y i come back to his more dissonant stuff to scratch that itch
It isn't easy to find fusion/jazz guitarist that can do that these days.
I love how distinctive and rough Sco's playing is. You can tell it's real improvising, he's flying from the seat of his pants! Some of those lines are pure filth! Woo
Bill Stewart's solo in 5 at 33:00 or so is totally astonishing. Such control and alacrity. What an amazing player.
I agree. I revisit this video for that solo quite a bit. It’s so well constructed. Bills style is incredible.
Bill rulez
Did you really have to say " alacrity" and make me go look up what it means? Weren't feeling the word "lively" ?
Bill defies the odds playing match grip I feel. Though it's not all that orthodox for jazz, Bill Stewart makes it work. And inspired me to play more swing time match grip going against what my greatest teacher taught me.
0:38 Heck of a Job
13:20 band introduction
13:40 Green Tea
23:20 Hammock Soliloquy
35:38 Pretty Out
43:22 the camera loves Sco
44:19 Over Big Top
Thanx
Thank
The more I listen to Sco the more I realise he's one of the best guitar player I've ever heard... thanx for sharing
Scofield shows up on one of my Pandora stations but never paid too much mind. After a few videos of him playing I sure see what I've been missing. I'm putting an end of that right now, he is really amazing!¡!!
10 years later I'm in this phase of my life too haha
As a guitar player watching this video primarily because of Sco, I have to say that the bass playing and soloing of Steve Swallow is of an incredible musical standard. That first solo is just wow!
This performance got me into jazz back in 04’ and I haven’t looked back since. Still one of my favorite performances. Bill Stewart is the most melodic and groovy drummer.
Eric Schick it’s painfully good to watch
Miles Davis's "Kind of Blue" got me into jazz to that point of no return.
Hammock Soliloquy should be preserved in a National Archive for future generations to know.
Thank you God for the internet where I can listen to music like this whenever I choose.
John please come to Dallas.
hell yea we need BIG BAD JOHN to come here to the BIG D. If not mistaken Sco has never played in Dallas before
There is no god but army created internet you idiot
I was blessed to see him at the first Floyd fest. Hurricane was dumping it's last band of rain as we were setting up tent. When he came on several hours later. U could see the 🌟's. Perfect weather rest of festival weekend. This internet music is all I have now. I miss live music and the feeling u have when it's concert/festival day.
@@rinahall congratulations you just denied your creator!
I love how Scofield and Swallow have an instantly recognizable tone and musical approach. Their sound is 100% theirs.
Two very singular talents, that blend perfectly with each other.
Agreed, and Bill Stewart too.
@@triggSerable It's interesting, I started on drums but have a hard time discerning different drummers just on sound and playing style. I think it's the TONE that Swallow and Scofield get out of their hands/instruments, also note choices. I will say, Stewart's kick drum sound and playing is distinctive. I think it might just be a little beyond my ear. Regardless, I love jazz/funk, and love that the artform is still developing in other, newer forms. (Jacob Collier, Thundercat, Vulfpeck) ...I understand these aren't jazz, but are definitely influenced and carry on more complex musical arrangements using jazz chords and awesome funkiness!
My ears were never big enough to get "Sco" until viewing this video. Oh man, do I get him now. What a fine guitarist.
yea, that guy is incredible. I know an INCREDIBLE Jazz guitarist who said he kinda thought the same way. He knew he was a great guitarist but...then, he had a chance to play with him. And my friend was absolutely blown away. He said "that guy is a MONSTER." lol
Sco is always super and one of the most underrated drummers is Bill Stewart. Great technique and conception along with super dynamics makes him special. Swallow's talent speaks for itself too. As good live as it gets especially in the Blue Note.
Underrated? No one who knows the stuff doesn't underrate Bill.
That last song is so groovy. Scofield is so great. Can’t get bored. I have to watch it everyday.
Bill has such a unique voice on the kit. Such freedom. Bravo!
I often feel that if Hendrix could've lived to be an old silver haired guitarist, he'd have emerged into much the same territory that Sco frequents. The slippery merging of blues, jazz, country, funk often in the same song, often in the same lead break!
Mmm Hendrix would have a lot to work on in terms of harmonic context, chord progressions. He is still a blues/pentatonic guy... I can see a similarity in terms of adventurous playing though. I see what you mean I think. They share kind of the same freedom in their respective genres...
Oh, their dynamics. Too perfect. Gotta love it.
Listen from 46:40 onwards, Bill Stewart plays that bass drum like a clarinet. Never knew the bass drum could sing a song. Beautiful. The whole of his drumming in the last track is just so melodic, I could listen to it all day (admission: I sometimes do)
The grooves are just mind boggling
Love Swallow’s bass tone-almost synthy. What a fabulous trio!
With Scofield, any note is a good starting point for a musical phrase. A good starting point to start a new idea... Goddamn genius! Always surprising!
Whooooa! I've been listening to the scofield trio's En Route since it came out and just discovered this video existed! It's really a sublime intersection of jazz and funk. Get it!
I find myself coming back to this every few months. Such an Individual sound and style these guy's have, alone and as a group. Really beautiful and oh so groovy....
Sco live is always like 200%, absolutely lovely and amazing!
This is so good that there are no words for it. I've seen Scofield 3 times and he amazes me every time with his musicality and tasteful playing.
Sco's solo on over big top. I mean... wha... i can't even... wtf! He was completely in a different universe! This is pure love for music. :)
BIG BAD JOHN...is from another universe
@@Josh-yi4gr True! I am glad he chose to visit us
One of my favorite RUclips jazz performance ever, Scofield at his best.
昔ブルーノート東京に来たときに拝見しましたw格好よかったなあw
Each one of these gentlemen are virtuoso on their prospective instrument. Where the realm of limitations begin for many players it doesn't apply here wow
Words can't describe how good this is
very good
Words are contrived; they aren't needed.
I believe you’ve found 7. 😊
You have to close your eyes to appreciate this bassist.
He’s the anchor
Bill Stewart is always KILLIN'!!!!!!!!
His sound, his touch, his melodic approach, his awarness, his taste! That is.
Bill Stewart and Steve Swallow are one of the best Rhytmsection of all time!!! John can feel free!!!
I couldn't imagine how it feels. Shoot, if I had to choose between a girlfriend and a bassist like Steve Swallow let's just say I'd be single.😂
Everything about this is perfect.
The first song is actually "Heck of a Job" from the album "This Meets That". I spent years looking for it as "New Orleans", but it was futile. I bought the CD and just played it out of curiosity one minute ago, and almost cried.
I think Scofield called it New Orleans before 2005 (that is, Hurricane Katrina) - the title on This Meets That refers to a comment Bush made about FEMA head Michael Brown.
This Meets That is a great record! For my ears, it's the best album Sco has released in the past 10 years.
I mainly buy used CD’s. My area record store has listening spots before purchasing.
I had the pleasure of seeing this band alongside Mehldaus trio. good stuff. thanks!
David velleman 😲
Thank you for posting this , love the jazz; funk /swing / vibe all the time makes you feel good all the time
This might be the best Scofield I´ve heard, thanks!
Sco's got them pickups ridin pretty high, and looks like some pole pieces raised too. Proves that low=mellow isn't his cup o' tea. Very articulate.
The 32 minute marker will be a beacon of Jazz perfection for centuries to come.
+Slim Yelow yea man I feel you!
I'm not a drummer but noticed 3 things:
1) drums tuned beautifully
2) excellent left hand control at 32:54 and 32:57
3) amazing dynamics
Slim Yelow Totally nailed it. That three minute drum solo is a masterclass in tension and release with perfect balance by Scofield. Beautiful
Next-level skills all around - both in drumming... and in scooting a hh pedal back to you with only your foot!
I hadn’t watched this vid in years and came back because I remembered that very solo.
Un trío formidable! Que gran baterista es Bill Stewart!!
beautiful trio!!!! amazing players!!!
What a tight trio!I had never heard Steve play in heavier sessions like that,and-i like that-finally very much.John busts and escapes and all from the beginning only for our ears to amen.
Monster show.
Thanks.
Perfekt! Vielen Dank für die Inspiration.

Cool music and even cooler facial expressions.
Damn good drummer who is self-taught from.... Iowa!

O_O Super trio!
This is an amazing concert! I can't believe no one has even commented on it yet. That's crazy. Crazy sad...
+Todd Hooper
I quite agree with you. This is great music!
Unfortunately I had never heard it before.

My favorite jazz haunt in NYC. I was there for this one.....loved House of the Rising Sun !!!!!!!!!
FANTASTICI🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝INTERPLAY UNICO🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝
Right you are Robb! I misunderstood this section of his Wikipedia article: "The largely self-taught drummer began playing at the age of seven. While in high school, he played in a Top 40 cover band and the school orchestra, and went to a summer music camp at Stanford Jazz Workshop, where he met jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie. After high school graduation, Stewart attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, playing in the jazz and marching bands as well as the orchestra. He then transferred to William Paterson University (then William Paterson College), where he played in ensembles directed by Rufus Reid, studied drums with Eliot Zigmund and Horacee Arnold and took composition lessons from Dave Samuels".
Grandtastic!
superb to the eyes and ears and soul
omg what a killer solo from steve right at the start
i'm just learning his "hottentot" and "a-go-go". thx for your post.
Love Steve laugh after Bill drops his stick 49:50
What an awesome performance, i come back to this video every month
lmao! Thanks for pointing that out I missed it the first time.
Outstanding
Scofield burns like a man in passion on Over Big Top ! Frickin amazing...
John Scofield is just the right man for some distinctively 'rocky' sounds in this jazz mecca
Oh God!!! These guys are fantastics !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!whaoooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Steve Swallow、もう80歳だけどすごい!
Great GIG!!!
Esto es magia. Esto es magia simplemente :) . Gracias.
Si.
Refreshing music to my ears. Absolutely love the interplay... and since they're improvising I guess that would be a reason to call it "jazz". But honestly putting music into categories has always been irrelevant to me. Steve Swallow's been one of my favourite electric bass players since I first heard him back in the 70's. Thanks for the upload!
Steve Swallow is actually one of my all time favorite bassists... not sure what it is about him.
uh maybe his great playing...?
that tone!!!
The ultimate laid back groove that just puts u into trance no matter what unbelievable stuff he plays harmonically and melodically
I agree that it is difficult to define what is so great about his solos. He uses repetition and melody really well and is able to incorporate relatively simple ideas very effectively.
he is always playful and childishly honest
44:40 (Over Big Top) is one of the most amazing musical performances of all time.
Supermusical guys....Deep respect!!!
Very Very Nice !!! Great song !!! :D
If you liked this concert i recommend buying their CD named En Route it´s live and has some of this tunes plus others, great great CD on my top 5.
Probably the best live jazz recording for me. That album is a must have
I'm pretty sure I was at this show. Btian Blade's group was on first and Brian and Bill Stewart shared the same Gretsch kit. All great players and great music.
+Philip Nestor Brian Blade and then Bill Stewart!? That must have been like staring at the sun
Jesus! You've seen Blade and Stewart on the same night? That's like going to heaven
Opening track 'New Orleans' was later released under the title 'Heck Of A Job' in Sco's great 2008 release 'This Meets That'.
Superbe j’adore cette période gros beau son Scof...
Scofield has the best "tone face" in the business!
you know what they say: tone is in the face!
Probably cause he also has the best tone in the business.
I call it the "bend-face“.
These guys are what it's all about.
going to see this guy next month in NCH in Dublin Ireland. Can't wait!! xD
Holy, how appealing this is!!
fantastico !!!!
the real stoner music
❤️
U joshing?
Too advanced for casual druggies
They dont call it Jazz Cabbage for nuthin😎

Superb
この人達は全て完璧にこなせる、普通に弾いてるだけでね。万能の神様みたいなもんだ。
Easily the greatest trio on the face of the planet. Past. Present. Future.
