This is wonderful. A great concert. I had the privilege of meeting Dave Holland when he did a master class at the Univ. of Maryland a few years back. A true artist, gentleman, and down to earth guy -- and the show was incredible.
You gotta love Holland's tone ! I appreciate that Mr. Holland hasn't gone for that all wood thumpy no sustain tone that some young purists seem to be after .
13:11 this level of creativity is unreachable... He can play in a completly non tonal way starting from a semi tone tone like scale and just make sens with absolutly everything who came across his head and fingers. No matter what he play, either phrasing, or melodic system, or harmonic path or all of them together will just carry a very fluid expression and idea. When you slow it down and observ, it's like a maze full of changing forms, but so fast and massiv and absolutly mindfull. And of course all of that improvised, no intellectual crafting in real time because it would be already too late. How.
WOW...what a great concert, especially Veil of Tears! This is a return to the quality I heard on the Dream of the Elders tour w/ Eric Persson on alto & soprano sax and Gene Jackson on drums. Chris Potter has certainly matured into a superb talent, and Nate Smith is now one of my new favorite drummers! Masters of their Craft.
yeaaa u can hear and feel whats he just tryiing to express with his progretion, it has too mani tensions , can u hear ? its like inner figth and those thensions keep raising during his solo , more and more dark
What a great journey for this musician who does not hesitate to approach all areas of musical creation! A world of notes, sounds, colors, poetry, cultures and encounters 🤠
I bet that Holland is on hundreds of recordings with a who’s who of great musicians. He is always interesting in his solos and lays a great foundation for others to build on.
I hope we, as humans, have the fore-thought to pre-arrange parking for Chris Potter's spaceship, when his people return to collect him.... AND are understanding when we collectively beg to keep him.
Around 06', I found myself standing next to Dave at his gig at The Jazz Bakery in LA. I asked him if Stan Getz's quartet w/ Gary Burton on vibes ( 60's) inspired his use of vibes instead of piano or guitar. He just smiled & said his inspiration was Steve Nelson's playing; nothing more than that. I felt silly for asking such a question.
***** ive beeen jamming to this tune forever i love it. It gets natural after a while, but i hear it now and im like confused how i heard the extra 16th.. potter is a beast in general.. ive seen this song live. My favourite band is meshuggah so polymetrics are my love :D
Drum mix is killer! Long live Nate Smith!
Dave Holland = perfection. Absolute perfection. My hero!
Dave is such a nice man, I know him because he's friends with my parents.
Chris is KILLIN' IT!! Nate's in the ZONE! The vibe man is on FIRE!
WELL DONE!!!
RING THE BELL DAVE...

As good as progressive music gets. There are few better than this group. Awesome.
This Group is Awesome ! Some of the best music I've ever heard.

Man, what a groove, what a killer band. Love love love, Hollands stuff!
You gotta love Holland's tone ! I appreciate that Mr. Holland hasn't gone for that all wood thumpy no sustain tone that some young purists seem to be after .
Ive noticed he switches up basses depending on the ensemble since I have seen him use the full sized.
@@scotty6124 well I think you’ve cracked the case there bud, u’ve carefully deduced he uses different basses
Excellent Quartet. Great. Thanks.

Potter's line at 7:44 is one of the most expressive moments I have ever heard in a solo. And the whole concert is amazing.

That entire solo was incredible. I can't believe he blew that right at the beginning like that!
Potter is such a beast!!!😮😊
Wow that drum solo, the continuity of ideas alone. Great musician. I 2 like the snare. Dave is the sole man on coussikbass
What a great journey for this musician who does not hesitate to approach all areas of musical creation! A world of notes, sounds, colors, poetry, cultures and encounters 🤠
Potter's solo on How's Never is soooo cool. Used to play this tune with my old band, it was so nice playing this...
Wonderful, wonderful bassist. A treasure.
Woooo shadow dance was fire, you don't hear Nate Smith play too much of that dbl time swing in his stuff rn, so cool.
I bet that Holland is on hundreds of recordings with a who’s who of great musicians. He is always interesting in his solos and lays a great foundation for others to build on.
Pretty much the best thing i watched lately. AWESOME
alexsh, thank you for this excellent sharing. Thanks.
Love that upright bass tone....
Merci pour ce rappel musical 🇧🇪 5:04
Peace through music. Something transcendent about this quartet....off the hook....too cool. peace
John Coltrane aurait eu un immense plaisir d'écouter, de savourer le expressivité de Chris Potter, à voir son trio à Porquerolles..
Agree 😊
Absolutely brilliant stuff! Nate Smith is pure fire...
i can't say what i feel, if i hear a double bass like this!! what a wonderful world!!

I hope we, as humans, have the fore-thought to pre-arrange parking for Chris Potter's spaceship, when his people return to collect him.... AND are understanding when we collectively beg to keep him.
That cutaway bass at the bottom is beautiful , as is its player .
bass,drums,vibes,and sax...yeah!

It's ridiculous some comments criticized Potter. Man, I expect that they play way better than Potter.
In their minds they probable do. lol
Jalousy ! is the reason why !
Potter is a beast, it's indisputable. Great composer too
I wish I could play like Potter. Brilliant!
I wish I could play like Jorge😮😮😊@@JorgeOstos
As with almost everything Dave Holland is doing, I like this.
The vibraphone is not my cup of coffee but it fits well inhere.
Thanks for sharing !
handsome grooves - yes indeed!
7:15 - 7:45 - thanks Mr. Potter for creating this remarkable passage in this already legendary solo.
Chris Potter...the best today!!!!
Puffff! Que tremenda junta! Solos o juntos, magia pura.
Absolutely fantastic
Great sounding kick drum.
Nate always gets the very best out of his drums.
MASTER !!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU DAVE !!!!!
Excellent players....excellent music...
Exactly! Maybe his sax was broken, and couldn't get one in time for the gig?
Can anyone tell me about the double bass pick up or equalization in this concert?
I don't understand what's up with the strangely shaped bass. Sounds great though and everyone else is good here. Thanks.
Astounding musicianship!
Nelson is terrific on the drums here!
