Test driven Mazda CX3 Maxx Sport, Hyundai Kona and Honda HRV. My wife & I have gone for the Honda HRV VTiS. The best in almost every way.
Interresting review Matt, watched all your small/medium sized SUVs reviews and bought a Honda HRV S last month....and love it. By driving as much as possible to the green band surrounding the speedo, (Eco off) the car has averaged 6.4 per 100 ks , mainly urban. The warranty is 7 years and 10 if servicing with the dealer. I love the way it drives and handles and it's roomy practicality, plus it fits in my rather small single garage.
Lack of Android etc is not an issue for this older guy. Thanks again.
Did they fix the steering wheel problem of being on the wrong side like in the video?

I just got mine, love it! almost perfect but hating the infotainment gps UI so ugly and hard to use.

Was struggling to get a decent CRV but wanted a Honda so started considering the little brother HRV. Sure it's smaller but not by that much. I'm test driving one on Saturday and if that goes well I think I have got my family car!

I have a 2017 HRV. I think it is comparable to the Gen 1 CRV in terms of size. I had one of those 20 years ago too. I find some things annoying like the audio system but not deal breakers. and in Canada you can get AWD. Not sure why that isn't available in AU. I know there are different trim packages in Canada but that seems like an over complication.
I must say that while I love my 2019 Honda HR-V, the media player is absolutely terrible when it comes to playing music from a USB. The touch screen on the dash is near impossible to use for scrolling through albums and songs, either not registering being touched or selecting a song when you're trying to scroll. Also, if I want to play random songs, it only randomizes within a single folder, not my entire library. I ended up having to take all songs out of their separate albums and put them into one folder. It also doesn't seem to like the idea of having Artist folders with sub-folders of their albums. Not sure if this is how all car media players work because this is the first time I've owned a car with a USB port.

I have a 2017 since brand new. LOVE it. So surprised I dont see more of them on the road. The CR-V is much more popular, but this little sister is perfect for me. Has everything I need. The 2019 is nice looking, like the review, but it doesnt have enough to make me want to trade mine out for a new one, but then, I only have about 8,000 miles on my car so far. Its like new. Not a sports car by any means, but it gets the job done in comfort and style.

Front door pockets are not good, they are tiny! Still lovin' my HRV Sport though.
I got one this year, RS Hybrid version, of course, in Japan is called Vezel, and the engine is different, 1.5 L / i-vtec, and it has a sport mode driving.
I also have vezel Z hybrid. Its pretty fast with 160hp and 230 Nm torque

Idk if its only cause your in Australia but in America you can get all the model types of the 2019 hrv in all wheel drive that was my main selling point and why I researched this car cause I needed an awd vehicle that handles well in the snow
It is because we're in Australia. Sadly, no AWD model here.

In the majority of Australia, there no snow... in some parts of winter yes, in my part it’s to warm during the day average around 70f in day time in winter lol.
Yup, I purchased the RS in orchid White, had it 2 weeks p, drove it home from the dealership and it’s been parked up ever since ...

This is a car for the new or near new buyer. What this type of review does is to tell you what the car is like to drive and to live with for short period. It will not tell you the long term owner's experience. Once into the second hand car market with the odometer ticking over 150,000kms, the CVT will be a major problem. Any repairs will cost more than the car is worth, and just regular maintenance is horrendously expensive, much higher than for a regular auto trans. Nice car, just don't drive it very far, for very long.

It is - but have you driven somewhere that will send you a $180 fine and chop points off your licence for being 3km/h over the signposted limit? That's Victoria for you... And that's why a digital speedometer is so welcome.

The steering is not very sporty looking .. perhaps need redesigning ..
Why do journalists always think synthetic gears in CVT are good? They eat into efficiency, and those of us who like the CVT don't actually like synthetic gears. It defeats the purpose. *eye-roll*
35000 grand for top spec got top spec features, while in malaysia 120000++ for top spec.. still not include honda lane watch..blind spot.. etc..
for honda safety is an option.. not for hyundai/kia.

actually it is around 39000 AUD grand including dealer delivery, GST and all that.

guz3108 In Europe we have the 1.5T now, but no easy-entry, no push-button start, no volume-knob, no lane-watch camera, to many no's
Stop complaining and get a sports car.
It needs more power. You should have at least 200 hp minimum in any viehicle
Will it have oil dilution problems like crv's?
@CarsGuide, its a shame that Australia also doesn't have manual transmission option. Same for USA and Canada too but uk gets manual transmission option with a 1.5L and also a 1.5 turbo vtec option in spring 2019.

2018 hr-v has a manual option on only the lowest model for the US.

@@battosaijenkins946 ya man not enough intrest. Would be awesome to swap the awd system to a fit down the line and boost it. Would make a super fun daily.
The digital Speedo is the one that kills it for me, We bought a new one a few weeks ago and I hate it already. and the touchscreen sucks.
Also at night the glow in the centre of the Speedo is quite annoying and distracting, there is no option to turn it off :(
Hi, have you got accustomed to the HRV or did you have enough and got rid of it? I note other reviewers mention the low quality media screen. I only recently found out the HRV that we get here in Australia are built in Thailand but the Civic is built in Japan hence the different entertainment system. I don’t have anything against Thailand.

@@thilolg no motive. The sis in law is an amazing lady. When i returned from afghanistan deployment her being a jehovah witness came to el paso from cali with my wife and showed me me love. Helped me out a lot and she was the one who helped motivate me to apply for cbp. I owe her so much! Shes really nice and has this 94 civic. It keeps having engine problems and I thought it would be great to surprise her with a great gift.

Blake Swan That will be a GDI engine: very easy to get carbon built up in the intake valves, not good at all after 50,000km roughly.

@T N C. They have to wait long. 95% Indians cannot afford a new car at this price range. They have difficulty to buy food for the family not speaking about health care. The richest 5% take more than their fair share.
Every thing this guy is clamoring over( digital speedometer, extra safety features like auto brake,lane departure etc, large 18 in wheels) are just things that run up the cost and items I would never want or demand.
No carplay ??!! wtf!

Terrible box like all SUVs. It is not nice to drive and does not offer anymore space than normal cars. It simply not make any sense as no SUV.
