This is an old video, I know, but it was very informative. I recently bought a new Ultra Limited, and during the 1K service, I had the service tech install an adjustable backrest (I was on a riding trip, and didn't want to have to fool with it, not knowing if I'd have all of the tools with me, that'd be needed for the job). I forgot to get a demonstration from the service tech on how to operate the seat. Since then, I've been doing trial and error, to figure things out. I had not yet figured out how to release the seat from the hold-down attachment, and couldn't remove the seat with the backrest in place, to see how the attachment hardware worked. Your video told me everything that I need to know. Thanks!
Thank you for posting this. I am getting ready to install midframe air deflectors. This is the first video I've found that shows both parts installed. :-)
This was the first video I’ve seen that even comes close to explaining how it should look under the heat deflector. It’s all garbled underneath according to the directions which shows nothing about where the spark plug wires should be routed but at least we can look at the angles of the parts and go from there. Wish there was a view from under the heat deflector so we could see the arrangement. I was about to give up until I saw your video. Thank you sir.
@@williamchristie7365 I'm about to start this today. I heard about the spark plug being a problem. I'm sure I'll see what people are talking about once I start
Very helpful video. Recently purchased a similar setup for my '07 Street Glide, and the b&w pics in the instructions that come with the adjustable mount were less than helpful in determining what went where.
I just installed the very same backrest kit on my trike this evening , the cable mechanism was fiddly to fix on the left hand heat deflector all in all it topok me 1 hour from start to finish
J J No problem. My mistake, I called them heat deflectors, but the correct term is “air deflector”. You have them on your bike. The plastic pieces on either side just below seat, mounted to frame. I wasn’t sure it they could be used along with back rest adjust lever.
I Just got a 17 cvo Limited, got a deal since the 18s are showing up. Really like your 3 vids. Hoping to have the detach tourpack I think the bike will look great & ride easier. I have the rider back rest , but all the specifics must be different. Haven to keep checking.
Nice purchase Bob. It's amazing how different the bike handles without the tour pack. You'll want to figure out where to store it as soon as you get it off the bike. That cart I made makes it easy to move and keep it from getting damaged when not on the bike. Send a pic when you get a chance. Thanks for the compliment. I'm working on a video where I installed a Mo-door garage door opener with the micro switch last week. Works great and you wouldn't know where the switch was if I didn't show you.
I can fully understand how to mount this part. It’s just a matter of watching another video on the install, by someone who has actually done it. Easy peesy.
I just bought a. Used 18 Ultra Classic and it has the top part of the backrest in the cargo area. It appears that they removed the lower part before they sold it. Do you by chance know the part number? Thanks
I have found that the “tab” on the actuator either fits in the cross member but the bolt does not, or the bolt fits and the “tab” ends up below the cross member. Others??
Mr. Gold, there is a spring loaded pin under the cover on the back side of the seat back. Pull that pin out and drop the bottom of the seat back down to the top of the seat and release the pin. Make sure the pin locks back into one of the slots.
@@joeljasper3622 yes sir....I did that already...but the backrest still sits high....I would like the backrest to sit at my lower back ...but it sits higher up from the my lower back...
Mr. Gold, unless you can get a shorter bar for the back rest, it doesn’t appear that it will go any lower. The bar has an offset. So, even if you shortened the bar at the top, I doubt the collar on the backrest would go over the offset.
I see you have a rear luggage rack quick disconnect on that bike.. how do you like it? Does it rattle etc? How long does it take to connect/disconnect it? I'm thinking of buying one this week, I'm interested to hear your thoughts
I like having the rack. Make sure it fits as some will contact the license plate bracket. I haven’t had any problems with it rattling. The bushings have to be adjusted to keep it tight but not so tight it’s difficult to remove. I can remove it in less than a minute.
@@joeljasper3622 thanks for the reply. Don't they come with a new license plate mount? Some rub on the license plate bracket that comes in the kit? What rubs on the the license plate bracket, the base of the tour pack?
The first rack I tried would not lock all the way in because it came in contact with the top of the license plate. It probably didn’t lack but a 1/4” making it. But you don’t want it even touching the plate. That’s why I chose one that turned up slightly in the back.
The RG Ultra doesn't come with heated grips. Kinda crazy that it doesn't. I had the stock grips changed out during the first 1,000 mile maintenance. I replaced them with the "Get-A-Grip". They are concave so the fit is better and less tiring. I got the large size and wear a size 9 or 10 glove.

Glad I watched this, as I want to add the heat deflector to the frame and nice to see it works with them. Love this backrest on my 17 SGS.
Thank you very much. I was looking for the same info. Installed the BR and wanted to make sure the heat deflector can also be installed. :-)
thanks so much for this . Im about to buy one and this helped as i plan to install it myself.
Much Appreciated, it was Exactly what I needed!
Thank you, Donald.
Gave me everything I needed. On a 2011 SG Good job.
Thank you, greg obrien!
Thank you for the video
Great vid thanks. I just need to fit the push button part and can now see how it’s meant to end up. Hope it’s heat resistant 😱
Is it heat resistant?

Helpful video. Was wondering if you could use this set up with the mid frame heat deflectors. Looking to add these to my 2016 FLHXS.
I’m sorry, Tim. I just saw your comment. I’m not familiar with mid-frame heat deflectors to say if it would cause a problem.

Yes, the adjustment lever will be just inside the left deflector. The deflector actually hides the adjustment lever.

I do not. Should be able to look it up in the catalog online.
where can i buy a separate pneumatic cylinder? or maybe there is a part number
@@miduza I have no idea. I would imagine you would have to purchase the entire kit.
Is that the stock seat ?? The one that came on it when you bought it?

Agreed. On my 2021 Road Glide Special - the tab went below the cross member rather than into a slot.
Okay...how do I get the backrest to sit flush with the seat?

J J that is so weird, the ultra limited comes with heated grips.
Tell me about it. There are numerous comments out there about that issue. You would think that for a difference of $2K, that would be a no brainer.
That doesn't sound very fair, I do like your grips alot better for comfort. But would like heat too!
Which seat do you have on your bike?
Andrew, it's the stock seat for the RGU.
this kit won't working with lower solo seat . becareful when you want to puchase them..
Thanks I
Its clear you know very little about the backrest.
