It's horrifying how much violence takes place against women and children in society, and to think about part of the human family facing even more of it is absolutely devastating. A native friend has told me about how she was treated in her youth by teachers and school officials who were supposed to protect her, not take advantage of their power, and it's the stuff of horror movies. Thank you for bringing attention to these issues. We are all one human family, and we need to stand together against those who hurt our siblings.
So sad that you don't know that domestic violence is about 50/50. People don't like to talk about it. It varies a few points either way depending on where you are in the country, but it's about 50/50. You know how many shelters there are for abused men? 2. In the entire country. Countless for women, but 2 for men, because men are still considered disposable.
@@section8usmc53 Being concerned about one thing does not mean being unconcerned about another. If someone wants to bring awareness to veterans who suffer from PTSD, that doesn't mean no one else has PTSD. Men being abused certainly happens and is also horrible. But this ride was about native women, who do face higher rates of violence than almost any other group. Acknowledging that doesn't mean others are not also suffering.

What an inspirational ride, I lived 2.5 hours north of Seattle in Vancouver, now live in northern Alberta. I made it to Devils tower this summer but wouldn’t be close to what you experienced on this ride . You’re very lucky to experience that so touching.
One thing I enjoy about living in Oklahoma is all the Native heritage and history here. I enjoy going to the Native Americans festivals and seeing how they continue to teach the generations their history, culture and language.
Doodle, if you get merino wool socks and use foot powder you can avoid trench foot. I never travel with less than 3 pair of socks. Swap them out often. If you get caught out. plastic grocery bags in your boots are magic. My dad grew up poor so the grocery bag trick was pretty important

Aloha from Hawaii! I rode from Dana Point, California to Sturgis this year! It was wonderful. I placed tobacco at each significant stop (entering or leaving a new state or area). The ancients kept watch over our ride & provided safety.

Hi Doodle Carolyn, I'm a 55 year old dude and haven't ridden since the late 1990's, so I'm out of shape, but you are such an inspiration to me. I want to be like you as a rider, doing U-Turns, figure 8's, taking lessons (which I did !), and just getting back into it. I think it's really important that you recorded this as much as it may come across wrong in the comments which I'm sure you get. You are doing good chit. Rubber side down, I'd ride with you anytime. There is a massive divide even within our rider community, like our country, that does not need to exist, and you are hopefully bridging that gap. I believe you are. Massive kudos. You rock. I really have faith that most people are fing awesome. And i wish more people highlighted the empathy that we have for each other instead of posting garbage divisive crap.
Tip you can put bag that you get from convenience stores to put on your feet. Before you start off riding when you see ahead . It does keep your feet dry

She enjoyed riding a Yamaha 200cc twin in Maryland with three other girl friends. Would not ride in busy Los Angeles area where we lived 58 years of our lives together.. Her great grand father was an Indian living in Missouri. After marring Carolyn's great grandmother, he was murdered and found in a river, Murder still unsolved. Her grandfather "Pete" became an excellent craftsman and builder. Thank you for helping us to remember and find ways to help others.

While very white myself , I was "adopted" by an older Hopi man , a friend of the family , when I was a child in Espanola , NM in the early 60s. At the time he was the single caretaker of Puye cliff dwellings and I spent many days with him there and attended many religous gatherings on Second Mesa on the Hopi reservation , his true home , where he was an elder drummer in his clan. I saw then , and still see today the callous and inhumane treatment of the indigenous people in our country , still treated as "not quite human" by many . Don't think for a moment the government agenda is different now than it was in the past , either , you don't have to dig very deep to find modern examples . If any other so-called "ethnic group" was spoken about or treated like the indigenous people are , there would be media hysteria , protests , investigations , you name it .I am glad you have a platform to help spread the word about this very real problem . Keep the shiny side up and the greasy side down !
That's ironic coming from a Hopi. The Navajo in AZ would say something very similar in an argument about the Hopi stealing their land. They hate the Hopi and still have an ongoing territorial dispute.

In reality , all land has been “stolen “ many times everywhere in the world and intertribal tensions have always been the norm . Thank you for bringing this to our attention, not enough time and energy is put into building thoughtful insights to what has been done to the indigenous peoples of the world. That so many and so much has been lost because of the ignorance of racism. Always remember that we are all human, no matter what are background, cultural, religion, and most importantly skin colour. Please remember those indigenous women who have been killed or not found as they were all mothers, sisters, aunts, wives and nieces to people who loved them. Thanks Doodle for bringing this issue to life through these wonderful women and men.

Doodle, thanks for making this video. This is definitely a cause that needs a light shined on it! Its refreshing to see a motorcycle event like Sturgis that is bringing so much awareness around such an overlooked cause. I dont think motorcycling should be a single issue thing, which it so often is. I would of been honored, as a non native man, to join this group ride.
I have much respect for you, I have watched a lot of your videos in the past. But this one caught my eye. How much did I miss riding my 010 Street Glide? You have come a very long way from where you started with your first video. Stay safe out there.
A story well told. Here in Australia, our indigenous peoples face similar struggles. I hope there is hope coming along with spreading the message. I was fortunate to attend a Pow wow in Denver a few years ago and it was a wonderful experience.

Doodle the trick to keeping rain out of your boots is to put the pants over the boot at the bottom. I never get water in my waterproof boots. My rain pants are over the boots and pulled down. Be safe, have fun and thanks for the film.
I recently purchased a 2021 Harley Heritage Classic 107. I love the bike easy to ride much lighter than my Harley Electra Glide Classic that went on consignment. Can't wait for the next riding season to come around again. Also love watching your videos keep up the great work. Saying "Hey" from Oregon.
A very moving video about a powerful and important cause. When we suffer a loss of a loved one we never move on from it, we live through it and not knowing makes that struggle even harder. My heart and prayers go out to them. 🙏 Do they have a RUclips channel or Facebook page that can tell their stories that the media won't?

The shocker for me was that the stat said 90% of the perpetrators of violence were non-native. That is hopefully part of the emphasis with spreading the awareness. I didn't hear it mentioned and I might have missed it. I appreciate you blending these stories in with your rides. Great video.

yes it's terrible. now imagine how much violence is against men, as they are much more likely to be on the receiving end of violence.

That so many and so much has been lost because of the ignorance of racism. Always remember that we are all human, no matter what are background, cultural, religion, and most importantly skin colour. Please remember those indigenous women who have been killed or not found as they were all mothers, sisters, aunts, wives and nieces to people who loved them. Thanks Doodle for bringing this issue to life through these wonderful women and men.

Doodle, thanks for making this video. This is definitely a cause that needs a light shined on it! Its refreshing to see a motorcycle event like Sturgis that is bringing so much awareness around such an overlooked cause. I dont think motorcycling should be a single issue thing, which it so often is. I would of been honored, as a non native man, to join this group ride.
I have much respect for you, I have watched a lot of your videos in the past. But this one caught my eye. How much did I miss riding my 010 Street Glide? You have come a very long way from where you started with your first video. Stay safe out there.
A story well told. Here in Australia, our indigenous peoples face similar struggles. I hope there is hope coming along with spreading the message. I was fortunate to attend a Pow wow in Denver a few years ago and it was a wonderful experience.

Doodle the trick to keeping rain out of your boots is to put the pants over the boot at the bottom. I never get water in my waterproof boots. My rain pants are over the boots and pulled down. Be safe, have fun and thanks for the film.
I recently purchased a 2021 Harley Heritage Classic 107. I love the bike easy to ride much lighter than my Harley Electra Glide Classic that went on consignment. The shocker for me was that the stat said 90% of the perpetrators of violence were non-native. That is hopefully part of the emphasis with spreading the awareness. I didn't hear it mentioned and I might have missed it.
