Your BIKE looks freakin' SWEET without that big ass'd bag on the BACK! Hoping you faired out well in the last 7 years buddy...thanks for posting this video!
This is an old video, I know, but it was very informative. I recently bought a new Ultra Limited, and during the 1K service, I had the service tech install an adjustable backrest (I was on a riding trip, and didn't want to have to fool with it, not knowing if I'd have all of the tools with me, that'd be needed for the job). I forgot to get a demonstration from the service tech on how to operate the seat. Since then, I've been doing trial and error, to figure things out. I had not yet figured out how to release the seat from the hold-down attachment, and couldn't remove the seat with the backrest in place, to see how the attachment hardware worked. Your video told me everything that I need to know. Thanks!
Custom dynamics instructions say to remove the negative battery terminal but that seems unnecessary. It seems you did not do that as well. What are your thoughts?
@@marcusjamesOG I always pull the main fuse every time I work on something electrical.
where can i buy a separate pneumatic cylinder? or maybe there is a part number
@@miduza I have no idea. I would imagine you would have to purchase the entire kit.
Part number(s)???
53000291A for Chrome and 53000567 for black.
Great video, well described and descriptive… I have a issue regarding top mounted license plate above the tail light.. Did anyone see a mount like this on Amazon.? 45:28
I would like to purchase that exact license plate mount… Anyone have a part number or description?
Thanks , great help to alot of us.
Hello. I am searching for the kit to do this for a 2017 Ultra Limited. Part # 53246-09A says it does not fit my bike. Is there another part of do I have to use another provider than HD??
They may have updated the part number. Have you checked with your local dealership or checked online? I can’t imagine why the kit would be different for a RGU from an Ultra Limited.
I did go to MBHD. They informed me they don't offer that part anymore. Hogworkz does offer it. Thanks@@joeljasper3622
Ol ur a real pro taping ur break lights on 😂😂😂😂 there are starving children in Africa
Been thinking about doing this ever since I got my RG Limited and felt it's top heavy. Doesn't look that hard to do. Since watching you I'm ready to go for it. One thing I may do differently, hide the antenna under the fairing. Thanks for taking time to show us how the average guy can do it.
Thanks. I installed the hidden antenna sometime after I did this video.
Thank you, great video! Watching from Brazil.
what is the part number to the wiring harness used to connect the lights.
It was part of the kit.
If you're still around, I found this six years later and am going to do the same to my 2016 FLTRU Road Glide Ultra. Excellent video. The only thing I would like to do differently is a different taillight / license plate to have the license plate under the light. Thanks for showing all the details.
Thanks. Custom Dynamics has one. I replaced mine several years ago.
Thanks. Mine was installed and I had not adjusted it in years.
Looks like your tour pack is going to look higher in the front than the back , I think I would rather have a level looking tour pack than a slanted one. I would try to figure out how to make it level.
Awesome video! Best one I've found on this. Going to save me hundreds in costs at the dealer
This is by far the best video on you tube for doing this, Covinced me to buy the Harley Kit the other kits are cheap made or do not have everything you need, Thanks a lot for the video.
Do you have link for conversion kit. My bike is 2018 electra glide. FLHTCU.
Just show the instructions sheet for the modoor.
Thanks for wasting my time
Why is there no kit for the 2015? What is the difference? Harley illiterate here... 2015 FLHTK
Horrible video b
To make it clean you could drill a hole run inside bags and back out on back side, that's how I ran mine along with my saddle bag speaker wires and all connections inside bag out of weather, but some don't want to drill holes in their bags. Great Vid sir.
I have an 09 unltra classic. I need the license plate bracket only. Where can I find this
Id recommend trying Custom Dynamics. I replaced my tail light with an LED tail light and purchased a different license bracket as a kit. I wanted the license plate to be below the tail light and not above it.
@@joeljasper3622 thanks man, which led tail light did you use? Part number?
@@dannysteele8754 I purchased the single tail/brake light with the tag light on the bottom and bracket. I don’t recall the part number. However, my bike is a 17 FLTRU. I doubt the same part number would work on an 09.
Great video, I just got my first Harley and I am wanting to be able to take the box off back when I ride solo. I didn’t buy new one but it is new to me. Thanks for the very detailed video….
Do you have part numbers for this video?
Filler lights way better and easier!
I need the tag relocation bracket , I can’t find that one what brand is that ? Thanks .
I never found that particular bracket sold separately from the kit. Take a look at Custom Dynamics site. I purchased another bracket as part of a LED Tail/Brake light kit.
by far the best video on this install. thanks so much for having this. i feel confident now. :)
just got them yesterday and installed today. wow super easy. this video sure made it clear. thanks again.
part number for the kit?
Part #53000291A
I do not own a Harley... but... I really appreciated your hard work and great presentation. Thanks... ps.. hi from TX (2002 BMW R1150R)
If you remove the tour pack from the 2014 and up eletraglide and we don't add the conversion kit does the engine light come on?
Not sure. I’d have to unplug the lights to even find out.
anyone have to get the 3m glue off there bags when you take the lights off and if so what did you use ?
I’ve always used 3M Adhesive Remover. You will need to immediately wax the area afterward.
Good job! Thank you from Brazil. I will try install right now!
Thanks I
Would I need the whole kit if I have back lights in the spaces?
Not sure if you can buy all the parts you would need individually.
I just bought a. Used 18 Ultra Classic and it has the top part of the backrest in the cargo area. It appears that they removed the lower part before they sold it. Do you by chance know the part number? Thanks
I do not. Should be able to look it up in the catalog online.
It's obviously been quite awhile since you did the video but it is still a great source of information for the install. I'll be tackling this once I get my solo seat delivered. I'm a little worried that I'll be able to tuck all the wires under that seat so wish me luck. Thanks again for the video.
This video was so helpful. The dealer didn't even know how to take the darn thing off or adjust it. Now I'm happy I have it. Thanks. Great product
Is it any difference for the CVO model?
Not that I am aware. If the CVO has the filler lights, I’d probably not instal the bag lights. But that is a personal preference. Plus, if you have a CB, you may need another relocation bracket for the antenna.
one more question watching the vid again getting ready to do it, Is there a reason why you didn't go with the filler lights ?, i just bought a set of bag lights and filler lights
No reason. Will probably do so at some time.
Hey Joel, I followed your install video. Completed job without a hitch and in a timely manner. Just wanted to give shout out to you. Thanks!
Thanks Joel your great How To video! It was a breeze following your detailed instructions.
Very informative Joe Thanks. I just purchased the detachable kit from harley and planning on installing on my 14 ultra limited. I do have a question on the lighting when putting the tour pack back on the bike. Is it possible to have the lights on tour pack and saddle bag lights working together? Thanks again!
Yes, both will work.
thank you for the reply, got my kit and installed it with help from your video, lock-tight was a great tip, by the way, the bushings on the mounting hardware can those be replaced with a better brand of bushings with more quality? by the way is there a wiring harness adapter that relocates the tour pack wiring connections under the seat? so when the tour pack comes off the long wire harness stays attached to the tour pack and there is less to hide under the seat? thanks
I’m glad the video was a help to you. I’m not aware of a harness that does that. You would have to just about have to rewire the bike though as some of that harness comes all the way from the front fairing. I’m not aware of any other bushings either. You will have to adjust those bushings from time to time.
Nice instructional video, thanks. I just put the kit on my 2017 Ultra Limited. Although similar, the kit is different from the one for the RK. I struggled with the bag wiring as well but did something a little bit different. The Ultra kit I got has totally different connectors and they are identical so it's trial and error for left and right. Additionally, the module for the lights is very different, thinner with no rubber clip on, and has 4 connectors of which only 3 are used. There is no explanation of what the 4th is and I thought you might know. I suspect it's to connect the tour pack lights when attached along with the new bag lights. I followed the original instructions but had to remove the adhesive tie downs once I discovered making the connection was not possible. I installed new ones when I rerouted the wires for my installation. I also used VViViD 3M Clear Paint Protection Vinyl Film on areas I felt vibration might be an issue with regards to paint damage. There is no antenna relocation bracket for my bike so I installed a hidden one. I wish I could send you some pictures. Do you know how much the tour pack and bracket weigh?
Thanks for the compliment. Not sure what changes they may have made to the kit since I made the video. I would believe your suspicions are correct as to the wiring differences. Good call on the 3M tape. I installed a piece after I reinstalled the tour pack as the wiring scuffed the paint right behind the seat. I was able to buff it out and then installed the tape. I did weight the tour pack, and I remember it being 47lbs empty.
@@joeljasper3622 Thanks for the response. I have been getting all sorts of answers about the weight but around 50 pounds is what it felt like to me. I tie wrapped all the cables securely to the frame under the seat so the rear fender is not exposed to any vibrating connectors or wires. All that will need to be undone when the tour pack is installed and I need to make the necessary connections. Then I will decide whether to use the 3M tape or build a shelf like others have described to support the cables. I do miss the speakers in the tour pack and am thinking about getting speaker tops for the bags. Any tips for that?
@@aaronkrongard6239 I intend to have a audio pro upgrade the speakers and add an amp. I store the wires under the seat when the pack is off.
I love this Tutorial. I would love to no where I can find that license plate bracket please?
The bracket in the video came with the kit. I never found the Harley bracket by itself. I never really liked the bracket because it stuck up so high above the tail light, I was limited in the luggage rack I could use when the tour pack was off. However, custom dynamics now has an LED tail light kit that comes with a tag bracket where the tag is below the tail light like you would see on CVO’s. So, swapped both out about a year ago.
hi, i just check out your video for the tour pack removal kit, and tail light replacements great video, can you give some links or places you found the kit and all the items needed to make it work? and a total rough cost ? thanks
The kit can be found online at Harley Davidson or from their catalog. Because the kit numbers change based off year model and finish, there are several numbers.
Hello. Can you tell me what the number transfer is called (manufacturer or company) or a store where you can buy. ?Thanks.
Excellent instructions Joel I followed along & completed my 21 ultra install Saturday-thank you!
