My concern is the software, how reputable is the company, after all something like this if from a non validated source could easily be full of keyloggers, malware and fun stuff.
Also, generally hardware monitoring software needs elevated (ie admin) access permissions to run properly so they can get full system telemetrics. This makes knowing company reputation/source code even more important because of the use case... And that info is pretty scarce here.
I use an old 8" android tablet. It works surprisingly well. Remote system monitor is the software i used, with it you can use basically any Android device as a monitoring screen for you PC.
the 12 inch version costs over £170, the 8.8 inch is £130 and the 3.5 inch one is NOT 40 ... its £100, these are uk prices, thats roughly between $130 to $250, they use a modified version of aida64 and the people who own aida64 have reported that company for copyright / trademark infringement
Those are Definitely UK prices. US Amazon reflects the $40 3.2 inch, the 5 inch is 69.99, and the 8 inch is 119.99. And as far as the trademark goes, sounds like I need to simply hurry up and buy one 🤷😅
I'd be careful with their "customized software". I tried one of those before, and that software not only needed to be run as admin, but it also reached out to a Linode-hosted server in California several times a minute. There's no reason for it to do that if it's harmlessly monitoring local system stuff.
This is something I've been thinking about doing for a long time. I was thinking about making my own out of an old tablet screen and a 3D printed case. The price is a bit too high right now but I would definitely consider one of these once the price comes down a bit.
I payed about 15 bucks for the 3.5inch screen. And it works great. The only unfortunate thing, is that i have not found a lot of templates to choose from. But you can alter them to your taste, or build a costum template.
I highly recommend aida64 over this. No sketchy software, more customizable, and you can toss it on basically anything with a screen. I used to use an ancient galaxy tab to show mine for my desktop.
Just looked again at the aida64 software and realised why I didn't bother with it last time I looked at it. The basic version is Extreme, there is no basic version, I expect that a large majority of the potential customers just want a display to stick in their PC case with a few flashing lights. And they don't want display software that will perform a 'System Stability Test' for them. On top of that I just spotted that it's a subscription service (I knew there was something else), $60 a year for an extra display. I am sure that some people will come back and say "but that is for three PCs", so what, most people are just looking for a pretty display on their main PC, and $60 a year is taking the piss. Sorry, I do totally agree with what you have said and my response turned into a bit of a rant, aimed at aida64 not you.
@@gordon861 Nah its fine. The only thing that the subscription is for is updates. You can use the version you have installed forever. I only grab it when i upgrade my pc every 4-5 years and its been fine for me. I just like how customizable it is for this. (And its not exactly hard to "find" codes out there if you know what i mean.)

Made one of these with previous android phone and an app on the play store called remote system monitor. The phone lives inside my PC and I haave another app called vysor to remote into it if I need to click around in the phone.
I am curious as well if you could use this with other software like aida64 just so it's not dependent on specific software, and because it didn't look like the software could show cpu temps. about the only reason this not being detected as an extra display is a good thing for me is cause I'm already running 3 monitors (for work) and not sure if I want to run a 4th just for this.
Does this have a mode that let's it work as a monitor for a raspberry pi? For 40 bucks with a metal case, it seems like a deal compared to the Waveshare I got for 43 bucks that I had to custom make a case for.
Hello, I could not find correct video to ask you a question, but could you help me with a router question. I have to use an external antenna on the roof of house with my router, without the antenna I get 0mbs download /upload speed, but I want to take down the antenna, so what I'm looking for is a router I can get good mbs Download/upload speed that does not need an external antenna on the roof. Is there a router like this on the market
I wish I could find one of these for a 5.25in bay that didn't look super cheap. I would mind using ida64 if it just pulled it's info from it or something but it always feels so janky doing it that way.
Love your videos, but hate this company. They're just turning aida64 into a proprietary package that's more expensive, and are currently in legal trouble over it.
Going to be sticking with WaveShare 11.9 inch screens for builds, they're the same price as Turing 8 inch screen. And I get more options with AIDA64 Extreme. I'd bet their refresh rate of the Turing or TURZX screens are garbage, so no looped video backgrounds.
WaveShare displays can be great. Youre half right about the refresh rate…it’s a 30Hz display, but the driver board is SPI, so it takes about a whole second for the driver board to send every pixel of a new frame to the display.
Not sure how I feel about them, especially with the extremely short warranty. My small 3.5 waveshare developed dead pixels along the center of the screen after only maybe an hour's use. They replied to my initial request for warranty but then stopped responding to me for 30 days and then told me the warranty had expired when I went to the seller to press them for a response. When it was working, Ill admit it was a nice screen though.
I have one of these. Fwiw the software itself hasn't been flagged as malicious and afaik hasn't done anything. That said I stopped using it after about 5-6 months after I changed my PC case as it now doesn't have a convenient mounting point
I agree. Promoting a sketchy company that's ripping off AIDA64 and being sued for it and their software which may have been modified in who knows what way is inappropriate. And on top of that having the video be sponsored by a gray market key reseller... I honestly expected better from ETA Prime. 👎
Very cool, but cheap at $40 for a 3.5" screen? Not the word I would use, but I suppose those with plenty of disposable income might. I know JayZ2Cents has covered DIYing a screen setup like this. I can't recall if that's any less expensive though.
