I don't know if it's been mentioned but Marko Hietala won the Finnish veersion of the Masked Singer back in 2020. Shows how good a singer he is.
Not that masked singer is much of a brag worthy contest. Just another mediocre copy-paste family friendly music show like "What else unoriginal can we make our local celebrities do on TV?". We've seen them cook on TV, we've seen them guess songs and sing along if they know it on TV, we've seen them live in a castle talking about their lives and careers on TV, we've seen them interpret eachothers songs on TV, we've seen them dance on TV... Urgh.

Yes, the are from Finland except for Floor is Dutch and Troy is from the UK. Second lead singer, Anette Olzon, is Swedish and she does backing vocals on the studio track.
Marko is playing, 'The Beast'. A custom Warwick bass and Framus guitar combo.(both brand names are owned by the same company). I think it's Piezo pickups that give the guitar neck that sound. Troy is playing his Irish Low Whistle.
Marko calls his double-neck guitar, The Beast. And yes most of the band are from Finland, although Troy is from England and Floor is from the Netherlands. Loved both of your reactions to this nice little sea ditty. Goosebumps out the wazoo. Keep the Nightwish reactions coming. Loving it. Congratulations on the 100K day.

Next: “Song of Myself” live @ Wacken 2013. It was the song after ghost love score and it is arguably their heaviest track.
And yeah Marko can sing, like very few can, he’s amazing, I was one of the comments saying you guys should do this, glad that you have. To see more of him. Than just crazy, epic metal Odin, rocking the base and singing well, like a madman. He has had his own band, been parts of others off and on, and always great. You guys should look up his other things, before/during him with nightwish. He will be missed as a member.
Countries have domestic artists who primarily sing in native language but if they want to reach wider audiences abroad, English is the easiest option. Not the only one, depends on the style of music, but it's the universal language and most people speak it on some level. In Europe it's common to speak 2-3 languages fluently but people who live abroad more can sometimes hold a conversation even in 6-7 languages.

The studio version is one of the few, if not even the single song where Tuomas Holopainen sings harmonies. He did back up singing on the first album and swore never to do it again.
You mention mushrooms, the video for the song has this desert campfire setting, with ghosts from the past appearing to the main character, the younger version played by Troy Donockley who wasn't a member of the band at that time but was regular on tours and in the studio.
Everyone reacting to nightwish should also watch "please learn the set list in 48 hours" about the arrival of Floor and all it could have changed or even ended
I was a new Nightwish fan when I heard this song for the first time. That was the tribute video for the day Marko left the band.. i'm like double emotional since that day, so beautiful and sad to see Marko left. Here In FInland, our Kids studying english to 1 grade nowdays. When i was at school (long long time ago) we start study it A 3 grade. Then almost all study Swedish (its our 2 language). Some finnish People speaks better and some, like me, are so shy to speaks english. Our school are free and Same to all Kids.

Double salute to you guys too! With many reactors, I usually skip the into to go straight to the music but with you guys I'm really glad I didn't. Dig the part where you got all nostalgic about NW being a big part of your journey as reactors. The checking of how many NW reactions you actually did. Reminding yourself abt how blown away you guys were when you discovered this treasure.
Now with "The Islander" -which to this Dutchy sounds like a real sea shanty, I felt the need to get me "a ship and a crew". Would pick you guys anytime to join and steer the vessel. You felt every second of that gem and your reaction at 9:30 was so heartfelt that I actually had to battle some onion ninjas myself here. So ty guys, that was the most engrossing & enjoyable reaction to one of my favorite NW songs that I've seen in a long time. Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
Marco is a famed singer on his own right in Finland. And have release songs that become hits on his own.
he is also part of other bands.
And actually some good news there, after he stepped away from NW and music because of depression and issues he has actually started to make a comeback ( something he self said he was not sure would happen )
He has played at some smaller concerts with some of his old friends and bands, and had a really deep interview at one of them where he talked about all of this, him stepping down, and now slowing being okay to come back, and loving music again.
( Also on a less important note to the music, but since I am a history nerd.
Finland was not part of the Norse/Danes, so they where not really what you would today call "Vikings" ( wrong term, but Hollywood ) So most people in Finland did not follow the Norse faith. some did though, but where still not part of that group.
Only 3 nations where, today we call them the 3 Scandinavian nations. The oldest one being Denmark ( one of the oldest people in the western world ) Norway later on, and then after the "viking" age Sweden formed. but those 3 nations where the nations of the Norse or "vikings"
Finland at the time where very isolated, and mostly just scattered tribes. ( some goes for most of Northern Sweden at the time though, that also again was not even called Sweden at the time )
And since we are on the topic, to those who call Floor a Valkyrie, if you take the real meaning of Valkyries, that is not really flattering at all. Valkyries where creatures of darkness, faith spinners like the 3 sisters. people, most often women could make deals with them to have people die or cursed by selling or making offerings to them. it was something people feared, and not a good sign.
Later in Norse mythology they where connected to bringing the "souls" of the honored dead to Valhalla ( and its also a lie that you had to die in battle, you just had to die with honor, and for a soldier that would be battle, but if you died honoring something something at home, you could also go to Valhalla ) They again got this "job" because people connected them with dark things, and death.
And them as these angel like warriors, that is again Hollywood.

Actually most of the europeans speaks 3 languages or at least 2.
I really hope Marko returns to Nightwish. He had bad mental health with the pandemic so has stepped away for now.

Marko did an interview in August 2022 talking about his future plans. He spoke about performing in small venues and working with other artists on their projects but not initiating any of his own. Nightwish announced on August 21st that Jukka Koskinen has officially joined them as their permanent bassist. So I think that confirms that Marko will not be returning.😥

Great reaction boys….. you both hit the nail on the head. Speaking of the North America music industry as a whole. It has absolutely secluded much superb music outside from this continent. Living in Edmonton 🇨🇦 I’ve been saying this many times over to you the reactors of how sheltered we are. Nightwish is without a doubt is one of the premier bands on this planet. I just found them in 2019….. and I’m pissed to have taken so long to hear of them! And our sad music bubble we’re in won’t play their music. Some how Rammstein and Ghost is able to crack the music the last few years up here. Nightwish for some reason just won’t be. They’re the most complete band I’ve seen/heard and unfortunately won’t get the recognition they just deserve here in North America. Pop Rap and R&B has taken over or pushed upon the airwaves or as I call it here to day gone tomorrow music. Todays music has no longevity/ substance with artists producing that 1 hit song to make their money and that’s it!

Keep the faith bud, saw them in may with my daughter in toronto, the place was packed and it was electric. I think/hope because of the pandemic and all the buzz about nightwish from reaction channels like this one, they're getting bigger over here.(apparently nightwish is or was not long ago the most reacted to band on youtube). If you follow them on instagram you will see they sold out all over on the U.S tour over the summer. I predict the next album will be the most successful. Im not saying your gonna hear them on the radio any time soon, but i think the Nightwish fan base is growing over here.

Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band and they gig in Tampere Finland. Marco made this song for the band. Anette did the female part originally. There are also other great songs where they do not use female voices at all or just in harmonies. Some people say that HE is the best ever singer in NW causing Marcogasms. They ARE the best band in the world but sorry that US does not understand it cause people there look only inside thinking that everything great is there and nothing outside - but be real - not. Finland is the most happiest country in the world in a row many years officially. Good that You noticed it ; )
Floor Jansen speaks Dutch, English, Swedish, German and quite a lot of Finnish and has sung in other languages including Spanish and Latin. There are perfect versions of Elan live too.

I always though Nightwish should reunite with all their former singers, I know there are a lot of hard feelings, maybe someday they can put it behind them and do a tour together, it would be epic. Helloween did just that, they brought back their original singer/guitarist, Kai Hansen and his replacement, Michael Kiske, to join 28 year frontman/lead singer Andi Deris ,for a very successful tour & subsequent album. They got over their anger & hurt and it’s been amazing to watch!
Don't forget Anette. This was written during her time. The original official video - Nightwish is so hot the campfire sits around them! The double neck bass & guitar is called "The Beast" by Marko. I like weasels! When you are so good you have Floor as a backup singer!

What you can sound like if you have 2 lead singers in one marvelous band.
I don’t think you’re wrong about the language thing, it’s always a good thing to speak multiple languages, but one major reason most Americans are monolingual has to do with proximity to other languages. Simply put, you can travel for DAYS in America and not run into any other languages. North America covers maybe 20% of the globe and nearly all of that space speaks primarily English whereas Europe covers less than 10% of the globe and is home to dozens of languages in close proximity to each other. So, I think it’s a bit unfair to say that Americans are stupid for not speaking more languages when the only other language any of us is ever really exposed to is Spanish and that only covers a small portion of the US, and French which really only covers a relatively small part of Canada. Plus, the instances of bilingualism in those areas is considerably higher than the rest of the continent because that’s where you’re likely to need more than one. ;)

They were playing for the home crowd that night in Finland, that's why he was not speaking English. The thing he said when it was not subtitled was asking the crowd if the would sing along if he played the chorus, then he asked if they were sure.
Great reaction my guys. Marko (odin) has some solo stuff as well. His song the voice of my father (isanni anni) is great and shows off his voice in a different light from Nightwish.
It's more than just a story about an islander. It's about the story about an islander being a metaphor for something much deeper and more profound. Think of the lyrics as a metaphor for the struggles of dragging one's cross (or in this case, ship) through life and then the simultaneous joy and melancholy at death, i.e., sad about facing the end of all life's beauties, yet feeling relief and joy at letting go of all life's pain and suffering. The official vid for this one (which features Annette rather than Floor) makes the deeper meaning of the metaphor much clearer.

I admit that I often have liked to listen instrumental versions of those songs which are more folk-lore like.
Those have been my go-to, for example if I want to relax and listen something calming, listen to while I read something or paint for fun.

I very much love watching you experience Nightwish! No denying Floor captivates the men--women as well. No one band member showboats, floor is just as happy being a backup singer. They all share the spotlight-can they show how superb they are, yes but that would take away from the song. To give the best to the audience, less is more

Dudes, Floor is Dutch :D The guy with the flute and bagpipes is Troy from Ireland and Tuomas, Marko and Empu are Finnish. Floor married the drummer from Sabaton and they have a little daughter Freya.
And yes, we learn english, German, French, but also Spanish, Latin, Greek etc :) I speak also Portuese and Serbian. Languages are fun. And Yes, sorry. Americans seem to live in a bubble. In Europe we know all about dif kinds of American music, and ofcourse European...but Americans hardly know European bands....and they are so good.

"No One" covers Pink Floyd... But in true Nightwish fashion, we find out that Nightwish covers Pink Floyd. I love your channel, but in one thing since you Americans are all the same. With you, everything that sounds like folk is ---->Irish. But it could also be Scottish, English, German, Danish, Swedish, etc. You can listen to this kind of music at every medieval market in Europe.

Let's not forget not only Marko has an accent. American English has quite a difference in pronunciation from British English. The rest of the world learns Brittish English, not American English. I've watched countless video's of Americans having problems understanding Brits. (And in all fairness: some do butcher their own language).
Marko's dad was an English teacher. Marko has quite a British accent, although there's a bit of Finnish accent as well.
Switching between two languages is easy. Most of the people can speak at least two or three languages quite well, I think. For example here in the Nordic Countries 94 % of Danes, 92 % of Finns, 98 % of Icelanders, 93 % of Norwegians and 94 % of Swedes can speak and write in English. Here in Finland in addition to Finnish and English languages, everybody also must learn Swedish language and many people also do learn German or some other language in school. And for example in Morocco and Tunisia (if not everywhere in the Maghreb) all of the people there seem to be fluent at least in Arabic and French, and at least all of the younger people can also speak English well.
Ok, sounds like you have not yet done Dead Boys Poem...one of my favorites...as far as the languages, you have to keep in mind the US is the size of all of the countries of Europe combined...you can have 5 languages in a 100 mile radius
Anette Olzon is the 2nd singer. Tarje was first, Anette second, and Floor third. Floor is my favorite but Anette sings one of my favorite songs 'Storytime'. I believe you guys covered the live version of 'Storytime' from Wacken with Floor singing. If you have time, check out the entire album Imaginaerum. It is one of their most commercially successful albums. They also turned it into a movie which was really entertaining. Great reaction video as always gentlemen.

As far as other bands/countries that speak English. It’s because they have to, to truly be successful/make it big time, as band/group, or a nation. English is the worlds trade language, through the Brit’s back in day, and somewhat now, and is somewhat after we became a nation, and especially recently. We are the tail that wags, the power, militarily and economically, each back up the other, for good or bad. We are the standard, we have over 1/4 the worlds trade, we spend more in our military than the next 8 nations below us. Our airforce is number one, in numbers and power, our navy is #2, in numbers and power, our military varies between #3 and #4 in sheer personnel. For capabilities, #1. We are, for the time being the standard to be measured by. In all ways.
