Hi guys! Troy uses an ebow: it's a hand held electric bow for an electric guitar. With that you can mimic the sound of string instruments. The ebow produces a powerful sustain.

It's such a gorgeous song with a timless message. It was written for a Finnish movie.
It's not an official Nightwish song. Marko and Tuomas wrote it for a 2007 Finnish movie, Lieska (The Matriarch). Jukka played drums for the recording. Troy is playing a guitar with EBOW electronic bow), it is battery powered and vibrates the strings to sound similar to a violin type bow. Yes, the original song only had Marko's vocals. The EBOW and backing vocals are additions.
As far as his opening comments, this was in London, not long after the Paris nightclub bombings. This, I believe, was added to the setlist for that reason.
The song you're thinking of that you already did with Marko out front was The Islander at Tampere 2015.

Nightwish has even a more beautiful song about the circle of life an death, on micro leven (human perspective) and macro level, our planet in the universe. It is symphonic doom metal (slower, darker) from Nightwish, and one of my favorite songs (piece of art) nu NW. Also with Marco as vocals for 80%.

Smokey guessed it. It is a device that makes the string vibrate using magnetism. It creates a violin type of sound.
I dont believe in namedropping other female vocalists in bands,but there are plenty of people inside the music industry that says that some of the well known women in well known metal bands out there,has a big ego and would not be comfortable or even okay with being placed as a backing vocalist in theyr own band (same goes for alot of male vocalists). Floor Jansen as the absolute best frontwoman and lead vocalist of a band out there,would have all the reasons in the world to be a little sassy,cocky and what not about it. But she is completely fine with playing second violin in Nightwish,to highlight other band members in Nightwish. She actually encourages the crowd often to focus on her friends and band members during a concert. There is noone on her level you actually see this modest,genuine,down to earth,loving,inspirational,motivational etc. Floor Jansen is simply another breed out of this world.
Back in the 90s i could never dream of saying that Marko had a beautiful voice. I loved his gritty,powerful even screaming vocals for sure,but a beautiful voice to slow songs? I would probably laugh back then......because the young me was ignorant. But with this performance i experienced otherwise,Marko can sing ANYTHING! I LOVE Troys guitar play in this performance,soo dreamy,eary and all out beautiful. Tuomas, the keyboard player is the main songwriter and it's kinda 'his band' Smokey was right though, I think the music video for this was just Marko's vocals.

It doesn't act like a delay. It's a vibrating electromagnet that creates sustain and brings a note in without the percussive sound of fingers or a pick, not delay.

I really like the music video version of this one. After watching it I developed quite a different interpretation of the lyrics. It's from a film, idk anything about it beyond that but it looks interesting anyway.

Fun fact. Ben Aflack owes his ENTIRE carrer to Kevin smith. He gave ben hin first lead role. If i could time travel.i would travel back to 95 and start over. I would have paid attention in school so i wouldnt have to work myself to death these last years. Wouldnt have gone down the path i went. True trash talkjers know what im talking about. We all are your friends. Thats what brings us back everyday. Its not a show, its a friendship that s like family.

Great reaction! This song was written by Tuomas and Marko however most songs are wrtten by Tuomas. This song is a beautifly sweet ode to innocent young love. Tuomas lyrics here are filled with poetic allusions to that amazing first love. Marko's voice here is so vulnerable and emotional. Every time Ihear this song I am transported back to my 17 year old self on a Friday night heading out with friends hoping to meet a special girl I can fall in love with and share my life with.
And yes, back to NW! Always awesome, yeah I know, late to the vid, way too much to do and watch in my free time, lots of times I see stuff from people I watch. And takes me days to weeks to get to them, have my own personal backlog of stuff to watch. Haha.

Hi again. One more you should react to is Nightwish - Creek Mary´s Blood. It´s from the End of an era. This is a song who is sung by the first vocalist Tarja Turunen together with John Two Hawks, and yes he´s realated to the Native americans (USA).

Unfortunately Marko is no longer in the band. Tuomas is the driving force and visionary behind Nightwish. Also, it may not be my favorite era, but it should be acknowledged that Annette was their singer for awhile too.

Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah) is a classically trained guitarist, bassist, songwriter and talented vocalist both solo and in harmony.
There is *so much* y'all are missing out on, so, hard to explain the connections...but you two will be *blown away* by Tommy Johansson's cover of Steelheart's She's Gone! Tommy is often referred to as "the male Floor" for his vocal skills! One day you're gonna check it out...and lose your damn minds! I'm waiting...

Floor was singing in the background before she stood up. You can see her sitting there in front of Jukka. Notice how she is restrained to allow Marko to be the stronger voice. It also suits the song, and aren't they all so good at that :)

Nightwish is definitely Tuomas’s band, and unfortunately, Marko is no longer even with the band. Troy is using an E-bow. It is an electronic device that does vibrate the strings sustaining a note indefinitely. This was not originally a Nightwish song. It was commissioned for a Finnish film, Lieksa! Written by Tuomas and Marko. They employed Jukka on drums, but that was it. There were no female vocals. (Anette was the Nightwish singer at the time). Emppu was nit part of it and he did not appear in this performance either. Tuomas made it a Nightwish song later, including it on compilation albums and performing it live, as shown here. This is the best version of the song in my opinion, with Troy on e-bow and Floor backing the vocals.
Floor got her start backup singing for a Dutch construction outfit. She quit because of the repetitive lyrics "Beep...Beep...Beep...Beep..."
Hi guys, I love your reactions you do to Nightwish. It´s an awesome band. I´m sorry to tell you that Marco have left. But the thing with Nightwish is they always come back. I would recomend another songs from them. The songs I would recomend the man behind, he´s called Tuomas Holopainen ( and yes it´s a finish name ). He read Don Rosa´s comic books and he got lyrics in his head, listen to Tuomas Holopainen - Lifetime of Adventure and The last sled. These songs are with different players, he´s the only one from Nightwish, and the vocals are made by his wife.

But they still have Troy that also have a beautiful voice, even if it's a lot different from Markos. I saw them live this summer before the hiatus and they still sound great live. Some of Markos songparts is sung by Troy and the rest by Floor.

Yeah over a year ago now I think. He totally quit public life but I did see an interview with him recently.
This song was always a Marko lead song but was considered not to be a Nightwish song.

Marko was one of the lead vocalists in Nightwish, but it's more Tuomas' band. Tuomas (keyboard) writes 98% of the music and lyrics. Tuomas and Emppu are the only ones that have been in the band since they started and are still in Nightwish. Marko joined them in 2001. Now he left Nightwish because of mental health and he didn't quite agree on how much money is being taken from the band selling their merchandise, by people in a country where they aren't allowed to play live because of their music. At least, that is what Marko told us. Sounds pretty F-ed up. Hope they can fix that situation.

Marko is awesome and a Rock God in his own right, but he is not the driving force of Nightwish.
Tuomas is.
Tuomas has written 95% of all music, lyrics, and arrangements for over 25 years.
Marko added some great collaboration and wrote a few songs on his own as well.
Nightwish is a family that works together to give us amazing music as a whole. 😊
Marko has had his own bands throughout and collaborates with many other artists too.
Troy basically a uses a vibrator on his electric guitar...
Women should be able to explain to you as to what happens to the guitar strings when that thing is turned on. 😉
