Marko's solo work or colab with "The Northern Kings" has him singing a metal version of "In The Air Tonight" (Phil Collins) and "Take On Me" (A-HA). Or you'll find Marko singing "Ave Maria" in a Christmas special.

I love Tarja's voice! Thank you so much for the reaction! 💖 I'm an old Nightwish fan. This band ever had three vocalists. Tarja is one of the founders of Nightwish. They recorded with Tarja 5 studio albums, plus some live. The second vocalist is Annete, who recorded two albums, and the current one is Floor, who also recorded two studio albums. The three vocalists are wonderful in their own way. Preferring each other is a matter of personal taste. I have a preference for Tarja, because I like the gothic air she gave the songs. The departure of Tarja from the band was a rather traumatic episode and recriminated by many fans (including me). Many have stopped listening to Nightwish because of what happened, and some do not listen to until today. Many of the most beloved songs, including by new fans, were originally recorded by Tarja. The Nightwish with Tarja was very sentimental and Gothic. Nowadays most of people refer to them as a synphonic metal band, but in the beginning they were called gothic metal too. There are many magnificent Nightwish songs for you to know. It would be nice if you guys took a journey through all the albums in the band. Tarja currently has a wonderful solo career. It'd be nice to take a look, too. From her solo career I suggest initially 4 songs:
1 - Supremacy (live performance recorded in Milan or woodstock. It's amazing).
2 - Underneath (Studio version or recording of Act 1 DVD - I prefer the studio version, but I also love the live version. It's one of the most beautiful symphonic rock ballads I've ever seen).
3 - O come, O come Emmanuel, the music video (Yes, it's the Christmas song. She made a very beautiful, artistic and dark version).
4 - Dead Promisses (It's a music from her new album. It's wonderful).
Anyway, again, thank you so much for the reaction. I'm going to subscribe to your channel and wait for more reactions to Tarja. Big hug from Brazil!

Tarja(Tariya)was Tuomas's inspiration to form a metal sound around her soaring timbre...prior to it, he was going to make elevator music...in 1996, she was training for an opera career, but decided to give NW a go and so she, Tuomas and Emppu co-founded this band...

Tarja is classically trained singer, the second singer they had was way too pop and was not a good fit for their music, Floor is the best of between the first two singers for the band. Floor is a great singer, I just like Tarja better. Tarja did do a song with Within Temptation, called Paradise (What About Us?). You should also listen to some of her solo songs she did after she left Nightwish.

  • @josedavidfalcon1974
    @josedavidfalcon1974 4 года назад +7

Next one shoul definitely be Nightwish - Slaying The Dreamer End of an Era...
The prefference between both singers (Floor is the Third) is more about likes... Floor has brought thousands of pop fans because her incredible vocal dinamic, her sweet tones, attractive moves and always cares about to hit the perfect note. Tarja is more worried about interacting with the crowd and she neves gets still, she's very overactive and jumps and moves a lot. Also Tarja's voice is really dark and deep, and that was gold for the metalheads in those times (nightwish was heavier)... Many critics say that Tarja has the voice of the night itself, and that not any voice can fit better on the name "Nightwish".
    But discord will always exist...

    @auChevalierRed 2 года назад +1

Hello, first time on your channel. Thanks for the video.
To answer your question, the band (minus Tarja) was going to be an accoustic mood sort of band. They wanted a female singer to add to their set as their demo had been rejected and remembered Tarja as they were from the same school where Tuomas's mother gave lessons to Tarja, But she had gone for one year to study music and her voice had changed since they had known her singing and was now way too powerful to fit well with gentle pop songs. They realized they wanted her to keep on singing for them, but that they now had to redesign their own approach to music. Thus moving into symphonic metal.
Without Tarja, there would never have been any Nightwish, a fact Floor acknowledges as she had always been a huge fan of Tarja's Nightwish. Tarja is not only the sweetest woman on earthoff stage, she is also pure emotion in her singing. Her short training has only helped her to consolidate her control of her voice so that notes do not escape her when she is putting all her soul into her singing. Floor, on the other end had spend all her time training her voice extensively so that it can fall dead on every time but the emotion is artificial, even though her pleasure in singing is genuine. I'd say that's why the Floor-addicts try to blaame Tarja for anything under the sun, their Floor, although excellent in her own style will not be able to compete with the emotional power of Tarja, nor with the fact that Marco and Tarja were the perfect combination for a symphonic metal duet.
As to why Tarja and Nightwish parted ways, I would say that jealousy probably played a huge part. Tuomas had already fired another band member and when Tarja got married outside the band, he asked the other band member to sign a letter asking her to leave the band, which he published online and that's how Tarja found out she no longer was in the band.
While Tuomas is the creative genius of the band, Tarja is what made them go from acoustic mood to symphonic metal and from nobodies to stars. A fact which was clear to the press and politicians or ONGs at the time and so Tarja was the one who was invited to perform solos world-wide for good causes. Tuomas published an open letter blaming her husband's business deals outside the band for the necessary dismissal of Tarja from the band although both he and Marco had commercial deals outside the band too but did not enjoy the same media attention outside Nightwish as Tarja did. He has since tried to replace her by singers having neither her uniquenes nor her power, so that he can be credited as the main reason for the band's success. While both Annette and Floor are excellent singers, they will not overshadow his song-writting as neither have been half as good in their careers outside the band as they have been on Nightwish material. Tarja and Floor are good friends and have sung together. Only new Nightwish fans who incorrectly believe that Tarja was responsible for the band splitting have this fanatic attitude.
While I find Tarja a way more unique singer than Floor, I think that Floor is better suited for the aging Nightwish members and the wishes of some to not have a female singer overshadowing their male band. Floor brings a pop-rock milder quality to the band, and they don't have to be as energetic to steal the limelight Tarja attracted by her presence on stage as much as by her singing, which required the band to be more dynamic and push their on-stage persona not to be effortlessly overshadowed by Tarja. It also allows Tarja to play her type of music, something she wasn't able to do within Nightwish as it did not go well with Tuomas's style of music writing as well as his decisions about the way anything had to be played or staged.

I am and have always been on Team Tarja, she is and forever will be my favourite of all the Nightwish singers, infact she is my favourite female singer period, noone beats her. But there is absolutely no denying that Floor is fantastic too and most of all, she is more versatile, she can do many more different styles of Vocals, Tarja can pretty much just do the operatic style, or atleast I have never heard her do anything else and I have heard pretty damn close to everything she has ever recorded.
If you want the best possible showcase of Floors abilities, you need to check out the song "The greatest show on earth" live from Tampere, that is the one that made me realize what an absolutely astonishing singer she is aswell, Im literarily addicted to that song!
Apart from being a musical masterpiece, it also has a very deep message, it's about the evolution of the universe, earth and mankind, and how lucky we truely are to have been born into this world!

Tarja was fired by Tuomas (the composer and keyboardist of the band) and the other members of the band in a "unanimous decision" in 2005, literally right after this concert. After the show, they came to her, hugged her and gave her a letter and told her to "read it the next day." That letter was later posted as an open letter in the Nightwish website. Basically they said that she had gotten too concerned with stature and "big shows" and less concerned with the music itself, the "heart" of it all. She also was getting in line with her solo career at the time and focused a lot on that. They mentioned her wanting to cancel a sold-out gig to be able to rehearse for her solo projects. They basically blamed a lot of it in the influence of her now-husband Marcelo Cabuli. Tuomas then said this essentially meant he "couldn't write songs for her anymore," that he couldn't see her as his muse anymore. This entire concert is a DVD called "End of an Era" and it was her very last show with them.
Tuomas (keyboard), Emppu (guitar), and Jukka (drums) are all from the same town in Finland and essentially formed the band together. Tuomas and Tarja had been good friends since. Tarja was, understandably, very hurt by this and then replied with an open letter of her own. She was very magnanimous in the letter, in my opinion. She mentions how she felt the decision was unfair and they should've talked to her, etc. but that she felt she had not failed "them" (as in, the band or the fans) and wished them luck.
Nightwish replaced Tarja with Anette Olzon in 2007, which was a big deal back then for fans as Anette's style is very different from Tarja's. Tarja is classically trained and has those masterful operatic vocals, while Anette doesn't have that kind of range and has a lot more rock and pop-rock style of vocals. This ended up creating a lot of drama in the fanbase back in the day. Anette recorded Dark Passion Play with the band, leaving in 2012, after which Tuomas invited Floor Jansen to the band. The album Dark Passion Play has several songs about the fallout with Tarja in 2005, notably Bye Bye Beautiful (for Tarja), Master Passion Greed (for Marcelo), and perhaps even more notably The Poet and the Pendulum (about Tuomas's mental state after 2005). Tuomas called the decision to fire his long-term friend and colleague Tarja "the hardest decision I ever had to make" and said he fell into a bout of depression because of it. "The Poet and the Pendulum" is a 14-minute cathartic song executed in 5 "acts" in which Tuomas talks about home, despair, depression, and even figuratively "kills himself to avoid doing it in real life." The song actually closes its 4th act by reading out Tuomas's eulogy and having the pendulum fall, killing him.
Tarja has actually recently-ish done live performances with both Marko Hietala (the bassist) and Floor Jansen, who has been a good friend of Tarja's since Floor's days in the band After Forever. Tarja and Floor have actually done some live chats about touring with kids, about music, etc. They have spoken about their relationship in interviews before, including apparently how when Tuomas invited Floor to replace Anette in Nightwish, Floor first called Tarja to talk about it and ask if she was okay with it. Tarja says she sees the situation as "the past" and how they cannot change the past, only the future. She once said she may have forgiven her bandmates but she'll never forget the situation that happened. In an interview she gave after her duets with Marko, she was asked about a reunion with Nightwish, even if just for one song. She said that her duet with Marko was very emotional and that they hadn't seen each other since 2012 and she also replied that a reunion with Nightwish may happen in the future, but would be a long time away and that even then she was unsure. She said she still kept in touch with Tuomas but they hadn't seen each other in many years and there was still a long road ahead of a possible reunion with the band.
On another note, there is a lot of debate over the vocalists. Talking about myself, I personally think Tarja's operatic vocals are superior to Floor's, even though Floor is classically trained and an amazing singer and can pull off the operatic vocals with ease. The thing that makes Floor a better vocalist to me is the fact that Floor is more versatily. She has a lot more ease switching between the operatic vocals and the more traditional rock and metal vocals, as opposed to Tarja. She kinda brings "the best of both worlds" when compared to Tarja and Anette since she can execute a wider range of styles. Tarja had a much bigger tendency towards the operatic, which doesn't fit some of their more recent (2007 and onwards) songs, for obvious reasons.
That's kind of about all there is to it. There was drama within the band and we will never know the full truth and who was in the right or not. We only have the situation through the rose-tinted glasses of each party, so either version of the story is inherently biased.

I am an old Nigthwish fan, so I lived all the Tarja's firing process. Here is my perception of the facts. The relationship between the band and Tarja was not good. So, the band wrote a letter in silence, and delivered it to Tarja in the end of the show "End of an Era", with the recomendation that this should be read in another day. Surprisingly, the letter was published the following day in the band's website. The letter had acusations against Tarja and her husband. In summary, they said Tarja changed with time and had become a diva wich was more preocupied with money. In response, Tarja spoke in a different way. She did not attack the band. She just said how sad and shocked she was at what was happening. She said she did not recognize herself in the text the band wrote about her. After the resignation, Tarja's husband went public and gave his version of the facts. He told the band used to sell concert tickets without Tarja's knowledge, and the lifestyle of the other members of the band, full of parties, drinking and poor diet had been making Tarja sick. She used not to be heard by the band. Personally I think the way the band decided to fire her says more about the band than about Tarja. The way Tarja reacted to them in the media after they published the letter was more respectfull than the band's atittude. I see Tarja as a sweet person. Neither I nor anyone else, except Tarja and the band, was on the road, but Tarja's version makes more sense to me. If there were any differences between them, they could talk and terminate the contract in a common way. But the band preferred to write the letter in silence, and deliver it to Tarja at the end of the show "End of an Era" with the recommendation that she read it another day, because at that moment she was happy with the success of the show and the Tour. The following day, the letter was published on the band's website, talking about a version of the facts, which includes things from Tarja's personal life. I think this is not correct. If you want to fire someone, there is no need to expose that person's personal life. These different postures, for me, say in favor of Tarja. That's why I think the letter says more about the band than about Tarja. Tarja had no intention of staying in the band much longer. She had already said that, and to me, this is more evidence of her honesty. She said this in advance so as not to surprise or harm the band. Everyone knew her intention. Tarja's husband said that Tuomas' was in love with Tarja. It make senses to me, considering the way Tuomas used to talk how Tarja was the voice that could better express their feelings. He already said that his musics are expressions of their feelings. Tuomas' lyrics talk about himself. He suffered from an unrequited love for Tarja. I think these were the reasons why she was fired the way she was. The band fired Anette too, as she said in some interviews. She was fired pregnant. She fell ill during a tour and instead of the band supporting her, they fired her. But everyone is free to have their opinion.

Floor has also sung this song, but not with Nw in concert (maybe in training), but she sang it with a Dutch opera singer Henk Poort.
Tarja - this singer - has sung with Floor at least Over the Hills and Far Away (Gary Moore cover), which Nw did during Tarja's era. So they are friends, or at least get along OK.
There was one other singer in between - her songs are nbest from the official videos, I'd recommend 1) Amaranth 2) Bye, Bye Beautiful & 3) Meadows of Heaven.
The whole story why Tarja left the band, was a dramatic incident, the fans still speak about it when the subject is brought up: and Tarja - Floor comparisons might easily bring it up. There is still some divide amongst the fans, older fans might be hardcore Tarja fans, latecomers hardcore Floor fans. So better step lightly there. I'm happy to appreciate both where they touch me - in general I don't fan bands, I usually get a few songs which I like. My NW favorite is still Wlaking in teh Air (cover), from Tarja's era, even before this bassist/singer joined. Best with a fanmade Tolkien video from the Hobbit trilogy - you really get to fly :)
We can compare the singers' voices from the musical perspective only, giving both their credit. After all their voices are so different, for me they wake up quite different reactions. Anette is not so popular amongst the fanbase. For many metal fans her voice sounded too poppy. I'd say in some songs she sings heavy too. And then tehre are other reasons fans didn't like her as much.
Poetically, I say it like this:
Marko this guy singing, wakes up the warrior in me, prepares me for a battle, or then he sounds like a villain in some songs, or an old traveller & storyteller in some slow songs.
Anette makes me feel like I found an inn by the long weary road, and I can settle by the fireplace to warm me up, when she curls up in my armpit purring like a cat. She a purrer, the purr. Or the baby sister.
Floor thrills me up, sometimes even quite excitingly - but always waking me up for the road ahead: I feel ther's no obstacle on the quest ahead we can't face - we the travelling band. She makes me go for an extra mile or 10.
Tarja makes me dream, lifts me amongst the stars - makes me a skywalker.
    xxx
These are their names in the Nightwish scrolls, also known as the Enema Ruh scrolls, found amongst the annals of the city of Taranfloor Maroy, in the section called Nightquest. Nightwish is the name of travelling companions, or Enema Ruh, as they sometimes call themselves. Nighquest is their endeavour their need to accomplish.
    - Anette is the acoustic guitar by the campfire. Her Quest name be Warmjoy in the annals
    - Floor is the violin or cello - OK, the whole string department, sometimes even with the brass murmuring. Exciting, jaw-dropping, erotic, comforting, inspring, thrilling, battle boosting, playful ...
Her fame name, the name on her continuing Nightquest be the Warrior Queen. She hails from the land of Amazonia, the region called Holtland.
    - Tarja is the flute guiding in the lone forest path, or flying amidst the stars. Her they call the Dreamweaver, the Pathbreaker.
The annals know also ye names of ye companions in the quest band. They be:
    - Tuomas the Wizard, the Questleader, the Netminder. His passions is to keep the band focused on the quest. But his nature is to find quests, so he has started other quests too.
    - Jukka the Pirate, the Passionbeat. He had to retire from the quest travelling on foot, he was exhausted by the road ever winding - his healer got him stop. But he's along in the wagons, leading that part of the quest, for his passion is still with this endeavour. He took care that the quest kept its pace. So his role was the Timewatcher.
    - Kai the Half-Giant, the Machinebeat. He came to replace Jukka, his dear friend. He's also known as Kai the Steadfast, who has now inherited the role of Timewatcher.
    - Emppu the Hobbit, the Trixter, the Jester. He's known from his jolly nature, he cheers the quest up by his jollity - his funny word plays, and tricks keep the Questwalkers in high spirits, their mind young, and so their road is less weary ahead. He's also very nimble with his hands, so he can weave patterns, shapes and constructs they need.
    - Sami the Red, Sami the Quiet. He was an early participant, but he had to retire before the road took them to the uncharted wilds, the legend of Nightquest was just about to begin when he left. Few outsiders remember him, though they would know about the Nightquest.
    - Marko the Warrior (also Marco), Marko the Viking, Marko the Forkbeard. He's the Hand of the Questleader. He's also known by the names Marko the Gandalf, the Storyweaver, the Oldyarn, the Beloved, the Strider - with many names he is known by those, who speak with admiration of the Legend of Nighwish.
    - Troy the Bard. He's a troubadour who joined the Quest quite late, having briefly shared many mutual miles with them before. His gift he brings in the quest is the multitude of musical instruments he carries with him, easying their mood, lightening their step on the road. Emppu joins him often with his lute. Troys favorite choice on the road is the flute, in the taverns they stop he uses uilleann pipes, a cousin of bagpipes from the Green Island. And there are many more instruments he carries along.
Nightwish also frequents at a great hall called London, where another Questleader Pip Williams with his band joins to support the efforts of the Questleader and the whole Enema Ruh.
The keeper of these annals is called Wishmaster (check that Nw song). For rappers the thing there is it's a rhythm song, would be easy to turn it to Techno :)

Tarja just kills it all the time. Floor has done a mind-blowing version of Phantom of the Opera as well. To give you some info, the band actually fired Tarja after believing her attitude regarding the band had changed. It wasn't that pretty of a dismissal. Nightwish then added Anette Olzon as their lead singer. She stuck around for 2 albums before the band dismissed her mid-tour after she became sick & she became upset they used other singers to finish the tour without asking her if it was okay. After that, Nightwish then added Floor as lead singer. So it's been a rocky road for Nightwish and singers.

Tarja came back for a duet with floor and Nightwish a couple of years ago in a Nightwish concert for the song "Bless the Child". It looked like they all got over the hard feelings which was great to see. The videos on RUclips.

Tarja and Floor were always good friends but Tarja is just too discreet to tell the band what she really thinks about them, unlike Annete who really unloaded on them recently

Awesome vocals! Love how symphony, opera, metal mix!!!! Now total 180 here...have y'all listened to SLAYER? If not, there are 2 must listens both from their earlier album Reign in Blood...(1) the album opener Angel of Death which punches you in the ear with the EPIC Tom Araya SCREAM!!!!! (2) One of the BEST speed metal songs ever in Raining Blood. This song hits you with guitar, drums and vocals that leave you running for the church. All in all, Slayer is an onslaught of guitar riffs, solos, and double base mastery like no other.

Ok....so in terms of colabs you have Nightwish, Within Temptation & Delain all having fingers in each others pies. Martijn Westerholt was formerly of WT and brother of Robert Westerholt who is WT guitarist & married to Sharon Den Adel WT vocalist. Marco "Odin" Hietala did "Nothing Left" with Delain and a few other tracks. Tarja did the "Paradise" colab with WT. Sharon did "No Compliance" with Delain. Coincidentally, Sharon also did vocals on the Armen Van Buren track "In and Out of love". I think there is also a tie in with Liv Kristine from Leaves Eyes with Delain.
Let's just say Symphonic Metal is a close knit family!

Also, Floor's their third singer. Annette Olzon was the singer between Tarja and Floor. She was good too, but different since her voice was less operatic and more rock.

Now, the first Nightwish react you did was Ghost Love Score with Floor. Now, imagine if you will, Tarja was the OG singer of that song. If you can find that version, give it a listen. It's amazing.

I love you guys' reactions to Nightwish songs. I like your emotions, and it's obvious that you just love good music of any flavor. Moreover, I'm so happy that you picked up a Nightwish song with Tarja as singer. I love Floor, they're both incredible singers, but certain older Nightwish songs will always sound better for me with Tarja's voice. A pity that many Nightwish reaction videos are with Floor as singer esp. from the Wacken Open Air 2013. Tarja deserves as much appreciation as Floor. Thank you guys for this piece.
Also, if you like Symphonic Metal with an amazing female lead voice, checkout the older songs by Within Temptation, for instance "The Truth Beneath the Rose" from the Black Symphony Live Concert which was recorded with a classic orchestra. Or if you liked Nightwish's "Élan" you should also love WT's "Mother Earth", which also has these folk vibes, just more epic than "Élan". Their singer, Sharon den Adel, can surely keep up with Floor and Tarja, and the musicians are top notch too. Give it a try.
