I've been having the same conversation with my best friend about how great Steve is. For a while I was crazy about Paul but I finally realized that Steve was better than anybody. I don't know how he got all that soulful volume out & stayed on key but it was some spectacular singing. Great guitarist and very unique harmonica player. He was truly appreciated in Great Britain 🇬🇧 but not quite as much in the US 🇺🇸. 👍☮️🌞🎸🎤🌟💕

      Hey, thanks for replying
I think the origional version of this song was sung by
      Doctor John the Night Tripper
But, i could be wrong, i know it came out in the early 1970s & because i listened to alot of west coast bands ( USA) like Camel,
Its a Beautiful Day, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Captain Beefheart, The flying Burrito Brothers & Doctor John.
Im not American btw, i live in the far north of England near the Scottish Borders but in 1970, 72, 73 lived in London where there were some amazing bands out then & slowly turned my musical taste to Led Zepp, P Floyd, Ten Years After, Sabbath & D Purple but my favourite being Free with Paul Rodgers & Kossoff. I saw them play live many times.
I doubt a pass a day without listening to Free & Humble Pie with Stevie M.
Did u know the girl singing with him on his Black Coffee track was the brilliant PP Arnold ?
Think steve & PP had a thing going.
Anyway its great to hear from you & others who appreciate when music was the very best ever.

According to Ronnie Wood in his autobiography "Ronnie", Marriott was Richards' first choice to replace Mick Taylor in '75. But Jagger didn't want anything to do with Marriott. Can't blame him, really. Marriott's natural talent was scary to many of his contemporaries. And Jagger wasn't going to let anyone steal his thunder.

I was 14 at the time and travelled 250 miles with a friend to attend. GFR had a reputation at the time for being the loudest rock and roll band in the world. The way I saw it, most of the crowd seemed to be really nice hippies - all good! The whole day was fantastic and finished with my favourite band blasting out numbers I knew backwards. I was in a sort of heaven. An epic day.
Sometimes, I think bands have their place in time. For instance, I love Eminem's early stuff but I don't think I'd go see him perform nowadays. Same with GFR. That was then and this is now. Anyway, if you are determined, I'm sure you'll find a way. Good luck and thanks for your comment.

I was lucky enough to see "The Frampton Era" Humble Pie (the best line-up in my opinion) numerous times in the NYC area from 1968-71, including several times at the Fillmore East, where they played so often that they were almost like the house band. I am convinced that I am the person you can hear yelling "Gilded Splinters" on the PERFORMANCE album. On their best nights no one rocked harder. It was a shame to watch them and Marriot spiral downward into cocaine and alcohol oblivion. R.I.P. Steve and Greg.

Saw these guys perform the 20 minute version of this in Toronto in 1973 when I was just a kid. I knew who Steve Marriott was, but had no idea who Humble Pie was. They completely blew away all the other acts, which included Ozzie era Black Sabbath. The tour I saw was immortalized on the Rocking The Fillmore LP, which is still one of the best live records ever recorded. 'Walk On Gilded Splinters' evolved some between 69 and 73. More of a guitar opus when I heard it. Perfect for my 17 year old ears

@@robertsmithers9059 Thanks for the correction. I went to this show with my best buddy. He believes Frampton was in the band. Nope. It was Clemson. The band capitalised on the success of 'Rocking the Fillmore' by playing an almost identical set. They opened with an uncensored 'Four Day Creep' and went straight to 'I'm Ready'.
