That's why Steve was Jimmy Page's first choice for lead singer in Zeppelin but Steve's management vetoed the idea with threats of violence to him and Jimmy, lol. What could have been, smh

Reminds me of walking down six flights of stairs smokin a Joint and getting on the bus with my little cassette deck and playing this album on the way to work in Manhattan. I would have to get off the bus and get on the number six train to grand central station and walking up forty second street to fifth Avenue. I was working at lord and Taylor and lt made the trip great listening to this album all the way from the Bronx to Manhattan. I had to share this because it was the best of times to be able to listen to some of the best music ever ❤😂

Baddest fuckin' live Jam ever recorded in my "Humble" opinion. I have been listening to this for 25 years and it still sends shivers down my spine. Marriots vocals and Framptons playing...need I say more? Peace.

i didn't appreciate steve marriot until i was 60 years old. what a great singer. but on this song these two guitar players rock. marriot is great and peter is out of this world
Is it just me but I think Peter Frampton on this album is as good as anyone I've ever heard except perhaps Hendrix. Hugely under-rated - why should he care but he's up there.
You'er not alone.I have always felt that way,was at the 2nd show on friday night. Rockin the Fillmore comes 4 shows over 2days in 1971.at that point in time I thought they were the Finest Rock-n-roll band there was.Then Frampton left.
Frampton's mistake was to try to become a solo singer-songwriter, which tended to distract attention from his superb playing. (Clapton sort of made the same mistake but then wised up.)
There are some bands that are just best left to do studio and then there are those who do their best work performing live and Pie is one of those bands. Absolutely kickass!
In 1971, at age 14 during a sleep over, my buds and we drank our first PBR beers and I was introduced to this album...We played it full blast for 12 straight hours, only taking a break to blow the dust off the needle. It was my intro to jam music..44 years later "splinters' still ranks as the best single jam performance of all time...(Elizabeth Reed at fillmore a close 2nd)....
Bought this album in 71 along with the Allman Brothers live at Fillmore and played them constantly for the next year and a half. It's great to hear it again, and I don't think I fully appreciated just how incredible that voice was. Thanks for posting.
To fully appreciate Marriot's voice, be sure to go back and listen to his work with the Small Faces. It's very impressive. He's kind of a male Janis, except that he's also an excellent guitarist!
I was too young to really appreciate it the first time I heard it (in the late 70's), but it grew on me over time, and now it basically encapsulates everything I love about rock. Forceful, hard, lazy, sexy, stoned, flying, in your fucking face. Music for the ages.
This album redefined rock music, everyone copied it, so many riffs were lifted from Frampton and Marriotts jamming, this even gave Thin Lizzy their dual leads, these guys should be at the entrance to R&RHOF, this is beyond brilliant.
It's just the way it was way back. Garage bands who knew the right people making double live albums, just jamming most of the time. Brings you back, people now days seem uninterested but not me! My favorite vocalist/guitarist Steve Marriott & Peter getting his chance warming up to stardom. Maybe the M.C. didn't want another "power Trio" band? I am quite the Yes fan I got to see them at the Cow 🐄 palace in SF in the seventies I am not sure who I like better I still love them both and constantly listen to both and I sixty two now I still have to crank it up and simply emerse in the Blair

Everybody has the same comment......had a friend whose dad died and his mom couldn't control him. So, he had both the Allman Bros at Fillmore and Humble Pie at Fillmore. First time I heard them I was addicted. Of course I could not play this at home so would visit this friend frequently and request to play these albums. And, of course he had Alvin Lee at Woodstock.
Been listening to this for 45 years, and it still knocks me OUT! One of the great things about old, live rock recordings is that they are so long, they never get any air play, they stay fresh. I sure enjoyed this! Thanks for posting, matoast
Always thought that this was an odd song for them to cover, as it doesn't sound a thing like the good Dr.'s original, but they really took it to another level, and made it their own. The guitar interplay is just stellar. Badass Blues Rockers!
I was in High School when this came out and was completely blown away by the whole album. Ironic that Peter Frampton left soon after to pursue his 5 year long battle to have a solo career.
He left right before Rockin The Filmore was released, because they weren't getting the recognition they deserved - only to learn that 'The Filmore' made them instant icons. ......They'd have surpassed Led Zep as the best Rock Band ever if he stayed.
It's also ironic that Frampton struggled, and his Live Album was his only iconic album. He and Marriott supposedly were getting back together before Steve died.
mydogspet Frampton did have slow years after FCA. Fortunately he rediscovered himself and has been a force for many years. Saw him 2 weeks ago in Tampa. Still a world class rock/blues guitarist. Easily one the 10 best ever.
I used to run home from jr. high school just to hear, "I Don't Need No Doctor" everyday on FM radio during the school week. Then I bought, "Rockin Live At The Fillmore" double album and it was all over! This album set was revolutionary... #ROCK and #ROLL! ☆☆☆☆☆ 😎
A jazzy Frampton over some Marriott grit, with one of the two best rhythm sections [Mick Fleetwood and John McVie being the other] classic, "play all night" stuff to be sure. Would certainly like a time machine. Gareth if you can rock even mentally you are still all right man!

I’m so happy that I had an older brother and sister. They both were into a little different style of music so I got an incredible cross section of music. Any way I was 13 when this album came out, my brother got it and I played it so much that my brother had to go buy a new copy and teach me how to use the stylus 😮lol he was not happy!
An all time classic live album i'll be honest with you it's difficult to choose Made In Japan, Humble Pie's Rocking The Fillmore Ten Years After Recorded Live, UFO Stangers In The Night, Thin Lizzy Live And Dangerous, Lynyrd Skynyrd One More For/From The Road The Allman Brothers Band Fillmore East and the great part of Humble Pie's live album is their 4disc deluxe edition! Made In Japan 40th Anniversary or it was actually 41st Anniversary edition 5discs!! Ten Years After 2discs, and the Allman Brothers 3disc box set all on bluray!! all great stuff
Zeppelin song remains the same is definitely up there. Allman brother fillmore east 6 cd set is just absurdly amazing. Then you have just about anything Hendrix ever did live, the amount of emotion Hendrix brought to a live show in my opinion is unparalleled
How can you forget Stevie Ray's Montreaux show, or Rory Gallagher's "Irish Tour 74"? Don't forget "Robin Trower Live," "Johnny Winter and..." and the Led Zeppelin live album that also was a movie,"The Song Remains the Same".
saw this band sandwiched between opener Edgar Winter's White Trash and ELP headlining. Honestly, Pie stole the show. Frampton's gotta be one of the most lyrical guitarists... and the combo with Stevie's grit produces an absolutely great band. Cohesion, chemistry counts, of course, but this point's something many bands lack; contrast, artistic tension. This cut tho is unique in the annals of rock; Roger Steinbrink's comment below says it - it's such an unusual choice, one wouldn't think they'd gravitate to such an outlier. But HP's great feat of "making it their own" as Roger said, is no less an achievement than Jimi's of Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower." It's an artistic triumph of vision, arranging and execution. One of my favorite rock 'n roll cuts, and as another commenter said, timeless. I'll just add, looking around at the musical landscape we have today, they sure don't make 'em like this anymore....
Peter Frampton with Steve Marriott is as much an excellent co-lead player, co-writer as Rick Springfield on Johnny Winter And... Live! I love both bands with the same intensity! All around perfect, live bands!
I am a daily Humble pie addict so I will be commenting maybe sometime today they've got me on fire I'm just like I love what I am myself because of humble pie listening to them brings me to someplace else
I bought the album when I was 14 years old and have always wanted this track to be my funeral song. There is absolutely no better guitar playing anywhere. This includes Jimi.
These cat's put the heavy in heavy metal today's band's could certainly learn from what the 🥧 pie did but there will never be another Humble pie 🥧 we're lucky to have had one to worship
A heavy rock masterpiece - really the whole record is, but this intricate interpretation stands out, & can't imagine Peter Frampton sounding better than this...carries you away...just amazing

I have both the vinyl and cd versions of this magnificent album. Unfortunately the vinyl version buckled in the heat when I was 20 years old (I'm now 66), but I couldn't bear to part with it.

This cut tho is unique in the annals of rock; Roger Steinbrink's comment below says it - it's such an unusual choice, one wouldn't think they'd gravitate to such an outlier. But HP's great feat of "making it their own" as Roger said, is no less an achievement than Jimi's of Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower." It's an artistic triumph of vision, arranging and execution.
One of my favorite rock 'n roll cuts, and as another commenter said, timeless. I'll just add, looking around at the musical landscape we have today, they sure don't make 'em like this anymore....
