    I think that Liara remembers what the Illusive man did and is doing the same. That would allow the ending of two and three to be there but making it like a continuation from ME1 instead of ME3 in a sense because the Shepard DNA wouldn’t have been from the one who stopped the reapers but the younger who was warning of the reapers.

    The conversations about reincarnation have always stuck out to me as well. While BioWare's current status has lost the faith of many fans, I am still looking forward to what the new writing team have in store. I may be in the minority, but I would really love to have a game where the Virmire Survivors are both included again. This gives me the most hope for that. Lol.

  • @ColetteHart
    @ColetteHart 9 месяцев назад +4

    That would be pretty wild. I'm not sure how well the fans would take something like reincarnation in a Mass Effect setting, though. I mean, sure, the series has always shown that all species have their spiritual side with many different beliefs across the species, but canonically confirming the existence of the supernatural might ruffle more feathers than making any of ME3's endings canon. Maybe they could pull it off if the writing was good enough, but it would surely be controversial.
    I love the idea of a slightly different parallel universe, one that is nearly identical but a few different details are off, enough to affect the course of history. For example, I can see an universe where the council was actually willing to believe Shepard during the events of ME. The plans for the Crucible and the information about the Catalyst was found much earlier because of it. Shepard was ambushed and killed by the Collectors, but there was no need to revive him/her as the Crucible was already under construction. By the time the Reapers arrived, they were quickly destroyed.
    In any case, I agree that speculating and discussing is fun even if the theories are completely off, so I'm looking forward to the next wild theory video :)

      @paragonseven  9 месяцев назад +2

      Reincarnation would be wild, but the potential for it is there. And that Gamble tweet makes me think it might be possible.
      A parallel universe would be awesome, with the one downside being that our playthrough choices wouldn't count.
      The next theory video will probably be an update on the trailer. :) It's been a while and I've noticed a few new things with it.

      @@paragonsevenCool video! Really made me think of how the Protheans also had a version of communication through objects that was described by Javik. The way he talked about how "primitive communication is in this cycle" kinda seemed to me like he thought that it would be inevitable for mass effect species to get there if they had enough time. This wouldn't be confirming reincarnation though, it would just be using such a concept as inspiration for the technological process occurring. It absolutely wouldn't be 'x alien/human religion is real now', but a copying of one's memories into another is something many spiritual folk would determine is reincarnation (unless they utterly reject the process as legitimate).
      Good point about that theoretical Alt Shepard though. In a sense, instead of just a more amenable Council, perhaps they'd be a more effective, more useful Shepard, with different/adjusted origin, if they were one that was more persuasive and victorious early, even if they also stayed-dead as a result. That'd be an interesting basis of a sequel-toned Shepard that isn't a sequel Shepard. We could assume such a Shepard would not be such a grunt earlier in events, and with more obvious 'soft skills' than Bioware wrote ME1-2(?) Shepard to have.

    BioWare should really hire you. Your theories are spectacular. While I‘ve seen a lot of franchises not use multiverses well, your theory is very intriguing and makes a lot of sense with a few plot holes but every theory has some.
    I’ve played Andromeda a few times and I agree it’s very aggravating at most times but as you pointed out in a few side missions, there’s a lot of things I didn’t even consider like reincarnation. And I think you could definitely be onto something.
    If your theory about bringing Thane and Mordin back from that universe is correct, I could also see them staying in that universe “where they belong.” Where I could also see Mordin saying, “but you, you need a Shepherd.” Keep doing theories, they really get me thinking about how amazing the next Mass Effect could be.

    1) First two hints can simply show what happened in the past. Only Mordin and Thane silhouettes actually match, this could've been their mission together some years ago. Or future, as you point out, they can survive. And curing genophage probably is not canon anyway, why would we play a game in which 99% of npcs are non-stop breeding krogans? Same for Liara recovering the piece in the 2nd game. Or just visiting the place where she could find some memorabilia after the 3rd. As for why she can breathe, perhaps biotic powers allow that.
    2) Good hint 3, but it's about remembering stuff after reincarnating, not about getting knowlege of something your clone from another universe did (clone from another universe - this is our Shepard to that new one created from visiting alt. universe). I think there will be some form of reincarnation here. But without alt. universe - just using N7 piece from ours. It will be (optional) part 2 cloning all over again but better.
    3) You can't just touch multiverse concept and then have a normal game. Once you open the multiverse box, nothing really matters anymore, and IP becomes an amusement park.

    Had this thought earlier this week, but I was wondering if the multiverse would actually focus on the three endings.
    One where Shep destroyed all Synthetics and surviving to go back to N7 (honestly I imagine this shep as the villain bc they'd take this route)
    One where Shep controlled the reapers, killed the Leviathans with them, went to an abandoned relay, destroyed it and "self detonated" itself (or maybe just detonated itself after fixing the galaxy leaving Leviathans as antagonists)
    One where Shep died by creating the green things that made everyone greeny, where everything would be "so perfect" but it's threatened by the Destroy Shep's universe when multiverses first make "contact"

I wouldn't mind if there were a few directions, and your crash wasn't even post-ME1 in a timeline but well before that: be a Shepard with infused memories from your trilogy in order to speed your capacity against new dangers, or be a new untouched Shepard that refuses to model after another, or be someone that many may try to recognize as a Shepard but you are endeavoring to something/one else for some new reason (or you're at least growing into such a new name/role).
      And if they do sequels with the same protagonist, the writers will just nudge/push away from 'R U Shep?' and just increasingly take on the new name/role because the essence is that they're a new person, albeit with ties to the 'past'. If this were something they'd end up doing, I think Liara's best option would be to pluck Shepard's corpse from a universe where Shepard was never revived by Cerberus, and all life in the galaxy was wiped out.
    Otherwise you're leaving a galaxy without any defense. Then they could recreate the Lazarus project themselves.
    In that case, you'd have a ME2 Shepard.
    I'm not sure how or if this could work story wise. There'd need to be a substantial reason to need Shepard specifically. By this point all sentient life in the gallery would be aware of the reapers. So it's not like there'd be a need for a preemptive strike or anything.
    That said, ME3 did leave us with 2 major problems that I can think of that still need addressed.
    One, the dark energy plot that was scrapped. It still exists on the Conrad Verner story arch, so it's still acknowledged, and still an issue with mass effect consuming or altering dark energy.
    And 2, the Leviathan are still around, still power hungry, and ready to repeat their mistakes.
    I haven't done any theory crafting yet on what ME4 could be, but I believe these are the 2 main issues that the game is going to need to address.

      In the theory, Shep is being recovered from an AU where the Reapers are already dead, so all life in that AU wouldn't need to be wiped out. Shep simply isn't needed to defeat the Reapers there, hence the recovery from that specific AU.
      Dark energy and the Leviathans are definitely the biggest wild cards. I think dark energy might come back in a big way, not sure how the Leviathans will fit in with everything.

      Introducing a multiverse could make all ME3 ending canonical in that regard. Plus, it could also open the door for a Reboot/Remake of the original trilogy, giving them room to add more story and side quests, and even adjust main story elements.

    This is definitely an interesting theory that I want to be true, but there are several things that make me doubt it.
    The EDI quote was most likely another of the long-form jokes they wrote for her, not something meant to be taken as a major plotpoint for the franchise; if they wanted to hint at a multiverse, I don't think they'd consign it to this one interaction.
    The silhouettes are probably just placeholder squadmate-PNGs that the devs reused for the sake of the picture.
    While I like your observations on the detail of Liara lacking a helmet on what is most likely Alchera, it was probably just an artistic choice to show her full face in the trailer. Also, as we see during the Normandy's destruction in ME2, Joker apparently has some kind of normally-invisible, holographic breather-helmet he can activate, so it's not impossible that something similar exists at this later point in the timeline.
    A major basis of this theory is the Angara memory, which to me doesn't really prove anything outside of what we've seen to be possible in the trilogy. It's essentially the same as the Protheans' memory shards, beacons, and reading ability; the only difference is that Javik describes it from a scientific perspective, as a part of evolution, while Esmus gives a religious explanation for it.
    As for the tweet, there were very reputable rumors, and later Bioware confirmations, as far back as before Andromeda's release that said they were working on the next Mass Effect behind the scenes. It's obviously a cool reference to how long they've planned a continuation of the main trilogy's story, but I don't think it necessarily hints at a multiverse.
    Ultimately, I think that the main reason Mass Effect wouldn't commit to a multiverse, even though it would be interesting, is that the franchise has made a point of dispelling any ideas of a higher power, without which I don't think a multiverse could really work. For a multiverse like this to work, it would mean we'd need to have Leviathans again, who evolved exactly the same, and made the Reapers exactly the same, etc. etc. This would imply some much greater force at play in order to make evolution so consistent across multiverses that something as big as the Reapers exist in more than one timeline. It would also introduce a sort of "Chosen One" complex to Shepard, implying they're some sort of destined inter-dimensional savior of the galaxy, since their existence would have to be tied to the Reapers in the AU as well.
    All this being said, I think the introduction of some actual godlike force and a multiverse would be really cool; it's about the only direction the series COULD go that would feel higher stakes than the already galaxy-wide threat of the Reapers. Either way, you've definitely gained a subscriber, and I hope we get some concrete updates from Bioware on ME5 soon!

I remember looking at the Andromeda trailer with the helmeted N7 soldier and thinking it was Shepard. That's exactly what they wanted us to think. Perhaps the Shepard that’s coming from an alternate universe is coming from a universe of one of the other endings? And this can be “fixed” through each universe being labeled a different number, kind of like in the MCU. The issue with this, of course, is that in control and synthesis, Shepard is supposed to be vaporized, essentially. I don’t know. I sort of don’t like the idea of Shepard coming from an AU where they didn’t take down the Reapers. That was basically their motivation for the entire trilogy and if Shep hasn’t done that, I feel like it would be because they didn’t know about the Reapers yet, like Skyllian Blitz era. I couldn’t imagine Shep not being involved, or if they were taken out, I feel like that would have a profound effect.

    • @paragonseven
      @paragonseven  9 месяцев назад +2

      I like the idea of the AU Shep not having faced the Reapers, simply because they'd "feel" like a different Shepard from the trilogy's one.

Then, I remembered the scene where Liara finds the helmet piece - likely to hand over to the child she and Shepard conceived? That is until Shepard wakes up at the beginning of mass effect 2.. That Shepard could be a clone that Miranda got right but couldn't replicate because of the limited tissue samples of Shepard brain, Miranda Lawson was knowledgeable on cloning. So in the mass effect "5 " teaser, Liara is going back to retrieve Shepard from Alchera's freezing cold temperatures, could make perfect destroy possible as quarians could just rebuild the geth and it's not out of the question that the Angara sent an ark to the milky-way galaxy to seek out Liara's help about the Andromeda initiative, this why Liara can live and possibly recline Shepard so time skips won't matter maybe Edi was copied and cloned aswel to preserve her AI

    From a different MCU angle, time travel could explain travel to a different timeline/universe. If they could tie together dark energy and dark matter, it would take care of loose threads from both the original trilogy and Andromeda.
    As contrived as time travel would be, it would effectively be the same thing as taking someone or something from an alternate universe,

    As much as I would love to get the band back together ---- there is something to be said about exploring new ground and new characters. Especially the characters who have made a sacrifice and died in the original trilogy. Where do you go from galactic stakes of AI versus organic? Personal stories? Do they have branches choices after the ME3 ending controversy or provide a narrative 'on rails' experience? If it's done right --- I am certain I could enjoy a multiverse game with sheppard back in the saddle but my gut prefers a brand new experience with new characters. I think you're close. At the end of ME3 the child asks if there are more stories about "the Shepard". I think that the new Shepard will be like the Prothian Cypher that was obtained Zous Hope. I think part of the game might be collecting artifacts from different major events in Shepard's life. As Javic said life leaves an imprint on it's surroundings. So, in order to build a Cypher of Shepard or to awaken dormant memories of a reincarnated Shepard. This can be done in much the same way the Prothian's could read the environment or objects by touch. Perhaps Liara figured out how yo do this through study of Prothian archives. Janic laments about how "communication in this cycle is still primitive". I think perhaps Shepard the person is gone, but Shepard the title will be what returns. This way it honors the previous games and the death othe Shepard. Yet you can create a new character appearance and keep or change previous classes. Perhaps if you Pick the same class as a previous play through it may give perks to the new character. That's my running theory and ideas on what could be.

  • @keymaster7323
    @keymaster7323 9 месяцев назад +4

    Two things stood out to me as being the most compelling arguments for the multiverse. The first is the notion that the player could choose to "reincarnate" Shepard--to choose for themselves whether to start with a clean slate or not. Mass Effect's reputation was built, in part, on the notion of player choice. Whenever I see polls about Mass Effect, the community seems pretty divided on whether they want Shepard or a new protagonist--this would allow Bioware to give both groups what they want.
    The second thing that I thought was really compelling was the idea that it's the energy released from the exploding relays that allows a bridge to be created between the two universes. If the destruction of one relay (as we saw in the Arrival DLC) is sufficient to destroy a single system, the energy from dozens of exploding relays scattered throughout the galaxy would be unimaginable. Enough, perhaps, to alter the laws of physics?
    One other thought is niggling at the back of my mind, and that's the final scene in the high-EMS destroy ending when Shepard, in a pile of rubble, takes a breath. If that occurs in our universe, directly after the destruction of the Citadel/Crucible then, of the five possible endings, it makes the least sense. The Citadel explodes, and Shepard plummets through the atmosphere with no gloves or helmet, first exposed to vacuum, then to atmospheric entry at temperatures reaching up to 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit (for context, crematories run at temperatures of between 1,400--1,800 degrees Fahrenheit), then falls from the upper atmosphere to the ground (when just falling from a tall building is sufficient to crush your head like a melon). Makes no sense. However, if in some other version of reality, when the Normandy was fired on over Alchera, Shep wasn't knocked out of the Normandy, and the Normandy remained sufficiently intact and functional to hit the atmosphere at an angle that didn't cause it to break apart instantly, its hull and inertial dampeners could have protected Shep from the heat of atmospheric entry and the worst of the impact as it crashed...it might just be possible that Shepard survived. In which case, that scene could be reframed--not as Shepard surviving the end of ME3, but as an alternate version of Shep surviving the destruction of the Normandy.

    • @paragonseven
      @paragonseven  9 месяцев назад +1

  • @zaxxon4

    The Milky Way has 100-400 billion stars, and Andromeda has 1 trillion. If 1% of them has planets and 1% of those have a breathable atmosphere, then there would be at least 110 million planets for Liara to be on in that scene. An N7 is a type of special forces, so there are going to be many N7 soldiers we have never seen. Of the 10 million Milky Way planets there is bound to be a planet that resembles the one in the video, and if there is a dead Reaper then there are likely to be some soldiers that died in the battle to take it down.
    I think the key to linking the galaxies is gravitational time dilation. Gravity makes time pass slower, so the 600 year trip to Andromeda was 600 years on the Ark but less time in the two galaxies. They can estimate the time difference to be however much they need it to be for the story. If they go with an in galaxy day equaling a between galaxies year then a little over a year and a half passed in the galaxies. I expect it would be more time with ship acceleration and deceleration, as well as the time dilation gradient. The Andromeda black hole gives additional narrative wiggle room.
    As for the choices made in the previous games, I think they need to just establish a canon version. Either that or they will need to come up with BS answers that twist each decision into the same outcome after a number of years. For example if the Geth died then an off-site backup restored them, and if the Quarians died then the Geth revived them Lazarus Project style. A new story requires a starting point, and there are so many ME trilogy ending variations that setting a canon ending is best.

    Interesting I like it.
    So I have had 2 long running EDI theory that I haven’t heard anybody else talk about 1 that EDI is still alive because of the victory ring she gives Shepard. 2 that EDI knew what the crucible was going to do for most 3 story line not the other choices, but the destroy ending. And she also told Legion that might be why geth (might be or are) coming back. So to tie it in with the multi universe theory is that ring is a memory shard. And she left a mathematical description of what a mass relay exploding with that much energy would do to the universe. Like Ripping holes into the other universe. it’s way we hear anomalies all across the universe. Or it’s the blue print of her brain patterns so she can be brought back. How does ties in with shepherd coming back Or the multiverse? I don’t know. that is my Charlie Day conspiracy board meme.

    • @paragonseven
      @paragonseven  9 месяцев назад +4

      Huh, I never considered the ring to be anything other than a ring, but who knows! I personally appreciate the idea that EDI is the Normandy, and since we see it take off during every extended cut (destroy included), that she did survive somehow.
      It would be wild if EDI knew about the potential ending choices, but unless she spoke to the catalyst, I don't see how.

      @@paragonseven I personally appreciate the concept that we don't just choose whether 'Shepard Returns', but we can do the same for everyone in some way or another - whether its just them getting to pour over records of the other self and deciding to adopt their ways (think Blackwall in Dragon Age: Inquisition), or meeting the other self and taking on closer traits, or getting high access to their very memories (very much a thing for Geth). I'm not sure if this is what I'd want as the only big choice for characters, but its a texture to the RP that I'd personally consider fun if only for the spicy dialogue and plot that could happen.
      My own theories were wild variants of Indoctrination Theory (not the explicit one, but mental weirdness involved). But they did include the new/'new' protagonist having to face variants of past allies that take on new form due to the changed world (including even being 'Indoctrinated' albeit a very different evolved sort), and you rehab them or amplify their new form.

    • @paragonseven
      @paragonseven  9 месяцев назад +3

      @@SwobyJ Dang that would be pretty wild! It might be hard to write, since they would have to account for all the allies we've lost, but epic if they decide to go that route.

    1. You are my hero. 2. Whatever Bioware chooses, I just hope there's nothing silly in it. That's it's a good game with an amazing story. If they invoke Shepards name, it's like a banner to unite fans. It will sell off the shelves. If they don't do it justice, play Andromeda games, it will hurt Bioware far more than Andromeda ever could.

    I love this theory, i bought the legendary edition at the start of the year and this is my third playthrough, I'm really hoping your right about Shepard. If your theory is correct ( which i hope it is ) could we assume the Liara romance would be officially canon.

      Glad you like it! I just finished my third playthrough as well pretty recently. :)
      I don't think the ME team will canonize any romance, ever. Who people choose as their LI is a very important choice that the player makes. Forcing a LI on the community will cause massive outrage, and I personally wouldn't want to support a canonized romance. And this is coming from a Liaramancer. 😁

    Yeah, that fits - given how they blew the ending choices for ME:3 so badly, so badly that they couldn't even save anything by jumping ahead 600 years into Andromeda. If they want to "bring Shepard back" in the next outing, they really need to find a way to pull a "Dallas" (TV show, disastrous season recovery), and pretend that all the unsensible original ME:3 endings were just a dream and give us all a complete "do over" with more rational choices that don't destroy the franchise's lead characters.
    I never accepted that Shepard would have ever chosen the "Destroy Ending" at all - throwing all his AI teammates to the dust because that non-sensible choice didn't reasonably allow just taking out the Reapers alone...
    Sort of a day late and a dollar short for ME to jump into the Multiverse now though, given that Bethesda's already done it... Given how BioWare seems like it's been falling apart ever since Anthem, I just hope what's left can make a decent Mass Effect game at all - it'll be an uphill battle for sure!

    • @paragonseven
      @paragonseven  8 месяцев назад

      Bethesda doing a multiverse is intriguing. I haven't played Starfield yet, so I can't speak to how they pulled it off, but it'd open up the conversation for Mass Effect to potentially do one as well.

  • @darkbeach72
    @darkbeach72 8 месяцев назад +1

    Multiverses are a cheap, clumsy copout for bad writers, definitely including Marvel here. And I think the writers Bioware brought in know that. MVT is a cheat code, and cheating is not a rewarding payoff. It cheapens everything we did in our universe, the choices we made and the relationships forged. I would really hate for them to try to satisfy Schroedinger's Mass Effect fan who simultaneously wants all of their choices from the trilogy to matter while also being happy about having all of those moments invalidated by a corny comic book plot device.
    That said, I love the thought you put into this and the attempt to tie together all those clues scattered throughout the franchise.

    So here are my 2 thoughts in Andromeda what about the jordan they went somewhere and with meridian having unlimited potential as it was moved and references to it being a engine could it be some kind of dimensions ship. Or as thier are hints that the geth return could shepherd come back as a synthetic as maybe his soul downloads into a geth or other synthetic body so him or her having a human lifespan would no longer apply

    Wow this is by far the best theory I ever heard about the upcoming ME game, so according to DR. Strange theory did Shepard die in the original time of ME2 and when Shepard brought back we were given the chance to try and alter the fate? and we discovered that any ending will make Shepard be gone forever so IS ME2 and ME3 was the AU!?.. In reality whatever killed the reapers and Shepard there was no need to bring him/her back and as another comment said about Leviathan calling Shepard anomaly, new ME will continue "as if" Shepard died on Alchera and never brought back by Cerberus which means ME2 and ME3 did not happen at all.. I think this is my theory after hearing yours, though mine sounds crazy..
