I am totally with you on this theory and have come to the same conclusion. Albeit in a different way. I didn't analyze the video but simply relied on my gut feeling, which I had the first time I watched it and in the livestream on the 7th everything screamed Renegade Antagonist to me. Let's see if we were right in the end.
I think the same, this is our next antagonist, so cool I quite like them at the moment. The Liara trailer made me cry with joy, this one has got me more excited to see what's to come. The music for both certainly has meaning and impact. They put a lot of information in the clip and poster this N7, very interesting. I don't want to play as a renegade, well, certainly not if I'm Shepard! It would fit if the mission was to track down a rogue N7, just like ME1 had us track down a rogue Spectre. It would be a return to Mass Effect's roots.

Same! I thought this was the bad guy, but then I talked myself out of it. But, I thought the music did not sound like a good guy either. And I also thought this teaser is like the polar opposite of the trailer featuring Liara. I'm so hopeful now! I had given up my hope for Shepard's return.

Love your theories, they really make a lot of sense! You totally convinced me with your claim that this N7 is "fake", but actually I would love to play as that character. Imagine every mission an infiltration with a different appearance. In ME1 the council I believe says "We have more than Spectres" or something like that, referring to infiltration units (the Salarians on Virmire). So it wouldn't be far fetched to go for infiltrator now that the Spectre story is done. I don't think that implies locking us to a class. Classes could just be different (sneaky melee infiltrator, sniper infiltrator, biotic infiltrator,...) or if the Andromeda system makes a return, it wouldn't matter that much at all. If you can be an infiltrator as a Spectre, why shouldn't you be various things as an infiltrator? The music is a good argument for renegade or not on Liara's side. But that could only be where the character starts and you could choose your way from there maybe? Remember how that poster of this character looked like it had a paragon symbol in it, but in renegade colors? I think there's more to this than this just being the bad guy.
There's a ton of arguments for either side honestly, and I'm here for all of em! I'd love to play as a more renegade-style character, just not sure it'll appeal to the current ME base. The coat being a Paragon symbol, at least to me, is simply another sign that the Paragon/Renegade system is coming back, and not related to the N7 themselves, but it could be anything.
What if it's Ashley? We thought she died in the explosion, but if you remember we ran into that scientist that we let go and told the bomb was gonna go off, then we saw her again in part 3 and Shepard was surprised she lived. Maybe Ashley did too.

That was quite a fall from the Normandy only to be squished against a big hard building in one of the wards, but hell, Shepard was rebuilt from a crumbly mess, so you could be onto something!
Doesn't seem plausible for the Mc to be Shepherd given the time frame for the new game and it's possible for the antagonist to be the N7 and still be N7 if the alliance is the main bad.
As someone who has literally never played renegade, I wasn't sure if I was just oblivious but even in my initial analysis, I thought this felt like a bad guy/gay/non-binerary. Personally, the thing that got me was the way in which the character pulls the weapon out of their jacket, it just didn't feel right. You give someone a look and then draw a weapon like that? Not ready to defend but ready to kill.
Fully agree that this isn’t the player character…though I’m not totally sold on them being the main antagonist. I could def see them being set up as that but then they join the crew or something? Granted, that’s not really based on anything. I’m just spitballing.
Damn, that's a plausible theory! 🤯 The first time I saw the trailer I felt uneasy and almost afraid, and I asked myself why and the only reason is that this character is the villain. Your analysis clarified my ideas, especially on the high collar of the coat (cool research I had never noticed that!!!) and on the comparison of the music of both trailers. Well what can I say, in my head now there’s only one thought: this new character is the bad guy, I feel it in my bones. I mean, if we think about it, wouldn't be cool? And last but not least, I'm also convinced that Shepard will return as the protagonist, I hope so with all my heart. Thank you for doing this, it’s nice to be able to talk about ME’s universe 💙
Also, the way the head moves just as the gun is pulled out, looks kinda offensive or sarcastic, like ‘’ pfft, u cant stop me’’ I dont see why She would tilt her head like that without meaning.
I hope they won't bring shepard back. It would make the end of ME3 less impactful and feel really fan-servicey. For me Shepards story is finished and should stay that way. Also I highly doubt that BioWare will ever be able to deliver a sequel that does honor to it's legacy. Every Series needs an end eventually and I think Mass Effect should have never gone beyond ME1-3.
Hard to tell by the footage but the helmet definitely looks like it could be Asari, and who's the most awesome-est Asari we know, who also happens to be deep into intelligence gathering and secrecy? Liara the Shadowbroker. Could easily be a follow up to her earlier teaser, her breaking into the one place that might know what happened at the final standoff against the Reapers and what ultimately happened to Shepard(depending on the ending chosen to be canon).
Is it possible that there may be an opportunity to play the good guy....or...…the bad guy? Two separate characters?? With linear mapping the same as we had with ME2 & 3, this is not such a crazy idea. Bioware said that they heard the fans and that they wanted to get back to the concept of 2 & 3 with linear mapping and mission progression. Loving your theories, Atharia! It's getting me all juiced up for what we're going to see from the Bioware team next. I'm hoping that I'm still alive to experience the next instalment. I'm not young anymore (born '58) so waiting around for this is gonna be frustrating!
Yeah I was thinking they may do a Last of Us 2 and have us play as both, I don't mind that providing its done well, TLOS2 was not done well cos you had to replay the last 3 days again, would have been better , just going from one character to another throughout the game.

Maybe even "Jacket Spy" is a rogue SYsAl operative and they join up with us. Like it would be way cooler if it was some kind of sneakier more insidious threat. Like the Leviathan is influencing the noew regime after the Reaper War. Spitballing. But my mind is racing after this video!
Could it be possible that we are the villain's in the new Mass Effect? Everything we have been seeing so far is showing that we are viewing things from outside the Alliance and the rest of the factions of the galaxy. I would love to have a Mass Effect story where we play the bad guys, but if the Paragon/Renegade systems comes back, it will still give us the opportunity to be the good guy.
I mean we played as Cerberus for a bit, so anything's possible! I assume we're seeing things from an outside perspective (besides for the 2020 teaser trailer) because seeing the good guys' perspective would reveal too much.
Maybe the Systems Alliance, or much of it, has gone rogue by the next game and the Player character is an N7 belonging to a faction of the Alliance that didn't turn trying to bring down the renegade elements. Liara does mention human defiance after all.
I considered it, and there's 100% a case for it, but then why the bad guy musical vibe coupled with breaking into the Alliance? They could have easily made it more a sneaky tune, but it came across as "oh crap something bad is happening here."

I ran with the assumption that we were with the Systems Alliance though since the decryption told us to check "official channels" at some point, and (in my convoluted theory), BioWare on Twitter was acting as the Systems Alliance. Hopefully I can explain a bit more when I stream with Kala on Friday, but it *seemed* like we were supposed to be the good guys.
@@paragonseven Its also possible neither side is totally evil and neither side is totally good with both sides having some valid points in their conflict. I think a Mass Effect story where our character has to eventually choose a side without one being the blatantly good choice and the other being clearly the bad guys might be a lot of fun

It's a tough call, and I honestly wouldn't mind playing a bit more renegade-y main character, but one of the last nails in the coffin for me was the choice of music. Bad guy vibes off the charts.

@@paragonseven If you want to really make something out of nothing, like I did, there's a frame or 2, right when the character's midsection passes by the camera, where you can see a glint of something metallic, the pattern of the glint almost matches up with the striations on Edi's midsection (default skin). I felt like I cracked the case, immediately followed by "I'm losing my mind." Happens when you say "IRL" at 3:03.

Woohoo! I'm so glad someone else has this POV!! IF - big if - it's a 'friendly' or anti-hero, it'll be liara or Kasumi or Miranda (or sister?) or someone similar. Maybe Aria? Someone sneaky, probably fem, and a little bit sassy due to the choice of clothing. I also think Shep will probably be the MC in the next game too. That is not the walk of a character - of any gender - that can't dance and is famously clumsy like Shep. That's the walk of a stalker/thief/assassin/spy.
I mean... What even IS a renegade? like I shot Wrex, Mordin, and Kaiden. but I save the colonists, the crew, and the council. I leave Tali to die in ME2, but I save the Quarian Fleet. I sabotage the Genophage but save the council again in mass effect 3.

Yeah, when I first saw that N7 character, my immediate feeling was a disappointed _No._ They're very stylish and cool, a great character.... but that's not me. That's not feeling like Shepard... So I LOVE this theory and will be keeping it as headcanon until release. :)

I like it. But I dont necessarly think it's a fake this could still be a Shepard working with or for Aira and Aira has a high collar ) I dont see who else would of got Shepard's body of the Citadel
Really interesting. I would like to share the idea that this N7 person looks like a woman. Long arms, slender legs, heeled shoes, a cinched waist, an elegant rendering of the top of her outfit, a gentle wayback. Of course, it can also be just an artistic view. But as much concept art I've seen from BioWare, their characters are always legible in appearance, so this is another drop in the waters of an unexplored galaxy :)
I’m gonna say what a lot of other people are saying. Your theories are absolutely amazing! And most of them are sound theories. I can see this character being a bit also like what other people have said, an agent of Liara as the Shadow Broker who either goes rouge because from the DLC in Mass Effect two we know Shadow Broker agents can go rouge, Feron. Or can just be an infiltrator to try and stop Liara’s plan for bringing Shepard back. However, I don’t know why that person wouldn’t want to bring Shepard back unless… they’re mister Illusive man or someone who was indoctrinated by him. However, this character looks to be more feminine in appearance. As a complete villain, if that’s who this character is, i’d love to see Shepard back to face off. Honestly I’m holding onto a hope that Shepard will be back. I think Shepard will make a return I don’t know in what capacity though. I’d like Shepard to be the main character and playable again, but I’m more leaning towards another playable character that ends up getting Shepard back. All that being said, your videos are amazing and I love how much time and effort you put into making these videos for us Mass Effect fans! Keep up the amazing work!

The first time I saw the trailer I felt uneasy and almost afraid, and I asked myself why and the only reason is that this character is the villain. Your analysis clarified my ideas, especially on the high collar of the coat (cool research I had never noticed that!!!) and on the comparison of the music of both trailers. Well what can I say, in my head now there’s only one thought: this new character is the bad guy, I feel it in my bones.
I mean, if we think about it, wouldn't be cool?
And last but not least, I'm also convinced that Shepard will return as the protagonist, I hope so with all my heart.

I hope they won't bring shepard back. It would make the end of ME3 less impactful and feel really fan-servicey. For me Shepards story is finished and should stay that way. Also I highly doubt that BioWare will ever be able to deliver a sequel that does honor to it's legacy. Every Series needs an end eventually and I think Mass Effect should have never gone beyond ME1-3.
Hard to tell by the footage but the helmet definitely looks like it could be Asari, and who's the most awesome-est Asari we know, who also happens to be deep into intelligence gathering and secrecy? Liara the Shadowbroker. Could easily be a follow up to her earlier teaser, her breaking into the one place that might know what happened at the final standoff against the Reapers and what ultimately happened to Shepard(depending on the ending chosen to be canon).
Re: Liara having wrinkles. Her model confirmed it's just because she herself is 10 years older now.
Is it possible that there may be an opportunity to play the good guy....or...…the bad guy? Two separate characters?? With linear mapping the same as we had with ME2 & 3, this is not such a crazy idea. Bioware said that they heard the fans and that they wanted to get back to the concept of 2 & 3 with linear mapping and mission progression.
Loving your theories, Atharia! It's getting me all juiced up for what we're going to see from the Bioware team next. I'm hoping that I'm still alive to experience the next instalment. I'm not young anymore (born '58) so waiting around for this is gonna be frustrating!
Yeah I was thinking they may do a Last of Us 2 and have us play as both, I don't mind that providing its done well, TLOS2 was not done well cos you had to replay the last 3 days again, would have been better , just going from one character to another throughout the game.

This is blowing my mind and the music is a really good call out! I hope this is true. It would honestly be sick if it's more of a spy thriller uncovering some kind of conspiracy. Maybe even "Jacket Spy" is a rogue SYsAl operative and they join up with us. Like it would be way cooler if it was some kind of sneakier more insidious threat. Like the Leviathan is influencing the noew regime after the Reaper War. Spitballing. But my mind is racing after this video!
Could it be possible that we are the villain's in the new Mass Effect? Everything we have been seeing so far is showing that we are viewing things from outside the Alliance and the rest of the factions of the galaxy. I would love to have a Mass Effect story where we play the bad guys, but if the Paragon/Renegade systems comes back, it will still give us the opportunity to be the good guy.
I mean we played as Cerberus for a bit, so anything's possible! I assume we're seeing things from an outside perspective (besides for the 2020 teaser trailer) because seeing the good guys' perspective would reveal too much.

Cerberus remnant, operation paperclipped into the Alliance but secretly retaining their allegiance. Most likely actual N7 on the antagonist's side.
Could easily see this being a Cerberus agent of some sort.
Maybe it's Liara taking on to find something.
Maybe the Systems Alliance, or much of it, has gone rogue by the next game and the Player character is an N7 belonging to a faction of the Alliance that didn't turn trying to bring down the renegade elements. Liara does mention human defiance after all.
I considered it, and there's 100% a case for it, but then why the bad guy musical vibe coupled with breaking into the Alliance?
They could have easily made it more a sneaky tune, but it came across as "oh crap something bad is happening here."

@@roguerifter9724 Oh snap, definitely a possibility. I ran with the assumption that we were with the Systems Alliance though since the decryption told us to check "official channels" at some point, and (in my convoluted theory), BioWare on Twitter was acting as the Systems Alliance.
Hopefully I can explain a bit more when I stream with Kala on Friday, but it *seemed* like we were supposed to be the good guys.
@@paragonseven Its also possible neither side is totally evil and neither side is totally good with both sides having some valid points in their conflict. I think a Mass Effect story where our character has to eventually choose a side without one being the blatantly good choice and the other being clearly the bad guys might be a lot of fun

I immediately felt like the coat was a nod to Adam Jensen with Mary DeMarle has narrative director. Appreciate this theory tho. I'm torn on whether or not it's the protagonist or the antagonist
It's a tough call, and I honestly wouldn't mind playing a bit more renegade-y main character, but one of the last nails in the coffin for me was the choice of music. Bad guy vibes off the charts.
Or the "fake" might be a team Leader for our "Renegade" character
And Liara is our "Paragon" team leader
The design of the coat and helmet reminds me of Destiny 2 warlock coats.

@@paragonseven If you want to really make something out of nothing, like I did, there's a frame or 2, right when the character's midsection passes by the camera, where you can see a glint of something metallic, the pattern of the glint almost matches up with the striations on Edi's midsection (default skin). I felt like I cracked the case, immediately followed by "I'm losing my mind." Happens when you say "IRL" at 3:03.

Woohoo! I'm so glad someone else has this POV!! IF - big if - it's a 'friendly' or anti-hero, it'll be liara or Kasumi or Miranda (or sister?) or someone similar. Maybe Aria? Someone sneaky, probably fem, and a little bit sassy due to the choice of clothing.
I also think Shep will probably be the MC in the next game too. That is not the walk of a character - of any gender - that can't dance and is famously clumsy like Shep. That's the walk of a stalker/thief/assassin/spy.
You can't just assume that someone is N7, even if they look or identify as one.
My theorie: It is a real n7, the main protagonist and it plays in both the milky way and andromeda in the year 2890.

Yeah, when I first saw that N7 character, my immediate feeling was a disappointed _No._ They're very stylish and cool, a great character.... but that's not me. That's not feeling like Shepard... So I LOVE this theory and will be keeping it as headcanon until release. :)

This N7 could be a Cat 9 or they are rouge. Interesting. I was so wrapped up in other things I forgot this was a thing. I hope this isn't going to be Andromeda 2.0 and I hope the story is also going to be good. Given writing in most games I might wait and see reviews myself.

Really interesting. I would like to share the idea that this N7 person looks like a woman. Long arms, slender legs, heeled shoes, a cinched waist, an elegant rendering of the top of her outfit, a gentle wayback. Of course, it can also be just an artistic view. But as much concept art I've seen from BioWare, their characters are always legible in appearance, so this is another drop in the waters of an unexplored galaxy :)

I’m gonna say what a lot of other people are saying. Your theories are absolutely amazing! And most of them are sound theories. I can see this character being a bit also like what other people have said, an agent of Liara as the Shadow Broker who either goes rouge because from the DLC in Mass Effect two we know Shadow Broker agents can go rouge, Feron. Or can just be an infiltrator to try and stop Liara’s plan for bringing Shepard back. However, I don’t know why that person wouldn’t want to bring Shepard back unless… they’re mister Illusive man or someone who was indoctrinated by him. However, this character looks to be more feminine in appearance.
As a complete villain, if that’s who this character is, i’d love to see Shepard back to face off. Honestly I’m holding onto a hope that Shepard will be back. I think Shepard will make a return I don’t know in what capacity though. I’d like Shepard to be the main character and playable again, but I’m more leaning towards another playable character that ends up getting Shepard back.
All that being said, your videos are amazing and I love how much time and effort you put into making these videos for us Mass Effect fans! Keep up the amazing work!
