Wait a moment - this is the "Primorsky Stage" right? (I have read in Lada's online portrait with the Marinsky that she is dancing there, and I've later also learned that this is not in St Petersburg but Vladivostok.) Am I right in thinking that this is the "B" company of the Marinsky. Anyone's got any information why she wasn't taken on in the main company of the Marinsky - did they think she wasn't good enough?

Just a guess, also some rumors in a Russian forum I used to read: they didn't like her body. Mariinsky is very particular about it. There was a video from Vaganova students audition in Mariinsky, I don't remember if it was from the same year when Lada graduated and if Lada was there or from another year entirely. In that video Fateev clearly said in that video that they are looking for the right look. I am not sure if the video is still here or not. You can google for it.

@@jewelmarkess What's to dislike about her body? To me she seems a little petite, but otherwise seems to have nice proportions and neither be too fat nor too thin. Does that mean that they have standardized values that if, for instance, you are a certain amount tall, the length of your neck or your arms or your legs must be in a certain range?! I think that's ridiculous to place such a premium on the bodily criteria and downrate a ballerina on account of that if her dancing is otherwise impeccable? Do you have any other sources besides the interview (including non-video sources) as for the exact criteria that they have because I would like to see them. Only please don't tell me they are "strict" criteria; I already know that.
I do remember this "ballerina body cult" from other quarters with regard to Oksana Skorik (who is now a soloist at the "A" company of the Mariinsky) through the movie about her training at the Perm Ballet Academy (which as far as I heard started out as a wartime "satellite school" of the Mariinsky feeder school, the Vaganova Academy), and I had the impression that Skorik's marks there were upgraded on account of her being "blessed with such wondrous legs" and fulfilling other bodily criteria (which led to her being bullied by her classmates). I also saw later clips of her dancing and there were many parts where she seemed to flub as compared with other ballerinas dancing the same thing (for instance the diagonale in the Peasant Pas of Giselle, which has to be done on pointe, and she did it on demi). At any rate, I had the impression that she went up through the ranks unduly quickly on account of her body type, without her skills or charisma warranting that. What she went through in her years at the school is still radiating off her as far as I am concerned.
Is it possible that her early years as an internet star with Kuramshin's Ballet School (which changed its name several times over the years as far as I could remember) could have something to do with that as well? They might have felt that she was made a star too soon before this was warranted and that her technique was forever spoiled on account of that - for instance being put on pointe too soon at six and doing such difficult feats as 32 fouettés, which Kuramshin saw as the "gold standard of good ballet trainng"; these feats may have been based on short-cut technical solutions rather than a solid foundation of training lasting many years. And I remember that the two teachers at that school (Kuramshin and Petrova) had prior involvements with either the Mariinsky and the Vaganova Academy - was there some sort of falling-out prompting them to leave there and could this have been a reason? But then, to prove the contrary, two other girls from that school were perfectly accepted in the "A" companies of the two leading ballet theatres of Russia - the Bolshoi (Ksenia Zhiganshina) and the Mariinsky (Maria Bulanova), where they are now soloist and second soloist respectively.
Do you also happen to know whether there is a possibility of dancers from the Primorski "B" company getting promoted to the "A" company of the Mariinsky? Perhaps the powers-that-be felt that she has extraordinary talent and it would not do to put her in a main company, where she would have to rise through the ranks from a corps position, so they put her in Primorski so she would be able to dance certain leading roles earlier, only then to be taken back into the main company at a higher entry level? And if you look at the lists of dancers for the Mariinsky and the Bolshoi, there seem to be an insane amount of people at each level, with not enough leading roles to go around for everyone, so they might have thought that Sartakova would flourish better in an environment where she's a soloist earlier.

@@christianealshut1123 I found the video I mentioned, you can see for yourself, the title is "Yuri Fateev about the new artists accepted to the Mariinsky ballet company". You can see whom they selected. You can hear his mentioning of "appearance". In Russian he mentions "looks". I am not a ballet dancer. I've read they have certain criteria, if you watched some time ago "Dance of the Little Swans" documentary, you remember how they select students. I don't have any inside information other than videos here and what I read at the time in Russian Vaganova forum where it looked like parents of kids there were discussing students. I remember people in comments criticized Lada's body at the time. I also remember - judging from the videos here - as she got older she stopped getting leading roles in student performances. I don't know enough to say what exactly they like or don't like. I do agree she is better off on Primorsky stage, in Mariinsky, she might still be stuck in corps.
