I would have purchased this if it did full speed dreamcast without frameskip for all dreamcast games. Just cant justify 170 with shipping for a handheld that cant play all dreamcast games. Anbernic just needed a little bit more power, just a little. Didnt need the t618. What a shame.
Ambernic must have some deep pockets to keep releasing new designed handhelds every month. They mostly do the same thing, but I do like the look of that metal case.
You’d think with all of these sent for review items they’d hear your big issue, build. If they cleaned that up, your review would be playability and technical.
It's not too hard to clean up. Change it to ArkOS, just dump no intro rom sets, and it's 10 times better without much work. Easy to scape and everything is pre-set in the emulation settings
For those like me. i bought the vertical version ....i wish i hadn't because its too cramped and feels so unatrual when using hdmi. im buying this one bcause i can swap the SD card from my rg353v and continue using ARKOS AND when im playing hdmi, it feel like a traditional console controler. for the gamecube and ps2 guys....cut it out, ur not playing those for 170bucks, go grab an odin...if u can
Man I just started getting more into emulators (I only used my phone to emulate GBA games before) and I don't even know which one to buy, there's so many of them, I might have to buy multiple of them
Same man. But I really bought it for the metal shell and size. You'll always make more money so dont feel bad, can always grab the RP3+ in a few months or so. Thats atleast what I'm doing once I save up some more again. 👍
“Grey market” product if it comes with games. That said, I’d wager Ali Express sells the majority of them to US consumers. Just be wary of the lowest price unit on the site, not necessarily the best purchase. Make sure to read the specs for how many GB the card included has, and if it says which games/systems. Also, check how many units the seller has sold and what their feedback is like.
this is the premium version of this device so it is priced higher. i'd say look for the other versions of this chipset list as 353. this is fairly new but not the latest, so i think you can find one on amazon or ebay already. a secondhand of this device is better in some ways, i'd say. it's a tank so being the 2nd person to own it means it is already tested and setup for you. plus it'll be cheaper at that point.
The only one in the rg353 series that intrigued me the least bit was the RG353p...the 'plastic' model. Its an emulation handheld that can be used as a controller as well. Plus it's design with the stacked shoulder buttons is the best out of all of them in my opinion.
Can someone please tell me if this would be good for younger kids? I’m so over watching all of these (albeit amazing) reviews… they all leave me wondering which direction to ultimately go 😅 I just want simple gameboy games for them, maybe some Nintendo, N64.. but not necessarily any console games beyond those. I’m wondering if these devices are just too technical for younger kids to navigate.
For a younger kid I wouldnt give them one of these... if they start messing around... press the wrong thing, going into system menus etc... they can mess up the emulators settings or how the system runs type of thing. Its not complicated, but just from my experience setting up emulation consoles for people similar to this I had soo many times where I had to help fix the setup because someone messed with something they shouldnt have. a bit older kid like maybe 10+ it may be fine... as long as you know they will just play a game, exit it select another and not mess with stuff.
@@jesss2300 my youngest kid always wanted to play retro games, so what I wound up doing is just giving him a game boy and a cheap flashcart cause I knew hed wind up messing up a device like this. If he wants to play nes, snes, n64 he has a Switch Lite that he has access to those games through the Switch Online expansion.. in the long run costs more than a single emulation device but I dont have to worry about trouble shooting stuff he messes up lol.
@@Madlittlepixel I hadn’t heard of the flashcarts.. I was looking at the Switch Lite, as well, but it’s pretty spendy when you consider the expansion - but I completely understand going that route. I just wish I could justify it. I accidentally bought 2 cheap (like, $8 cheap) handheld Gameboy knockoffs on Groupon 😂 nowhere NEAR the same experience but for now, my kids might actually be entertained enough on long car rides to at least make it a worthy purchase. Perhaps Switch Lites are in their future, though…
If your checking out the 353 series, I heard the 353v's have better brighter screens, but the 353m definitely has a more solid build, plus it's the only anbernic model besides the 505 that has the magnetic HAL sticks. I myself won't be buying any right now, the Retroid Pocket 3+ doesn't have enough performance for full speed gamecube, plus the resolution isn't good for scaling, 505 has the same issue with resolution and performance. Also heard the Retroid Pocket 3+ triggers breaking. If I had to pick one, I would probably go with the 353M myself.
This is a pocket gaming device. A steam deck is a handheld PC which you play at home. If I'm gonna be using a Steam Deck, I would rather buy a 14 inch gaming laptop.
That's because N64 emulation back in those days was very innaccurate. N64 emulation has been a mess for years, and after the disastrous plugin based system on project64, other emulators such as parallel and mupen have strived for accuracy. But as a result, performance has taken a huge dip, and now far more powerful hardware is required to run those games. I wish we had a linux port of Project64, I wouldn't mind some inaccuracy for playable performance, but on retroarch, it's only the latest developed cores.
Size and cost are still huge factors. If you're not factoring those in, there's actually several handhelds that are much better than the Steam Deck as well.
The Steam Deck isn't cheap and it's less portable than a Laptop and Nintendo Switch. Why would anybody want a Steam Deck over something that's actually portable?

_Ummm,_ they just released the Ambernic *505*. You're a little _late_ on this video.
Edit: I see you mentioned the 505 in this video.
I BOUGHT ONE AND THEY TOOK MMY MOONEY
I’m loving the fact their name isn’t plastered all over the front.
Then you're gonna love the RG505 :)
They can tattoo their logo on my wife's forehead if they can just get N64/Dreamcast/Gamecube (Wii) to emulate at 100% for $150 and under.
Why isn't your comment being flooded with likes?!
@@RandomComment-tr5ix LOL 🤣😂
I think I'll wait 5 days for the next version to come out 😀
It came out and apparently wasn't as good.

One more gen of processor and I think it will be worth it in this form factor. $150 price point
Feel better Ron
Thanks for another good review!

@Jeff M they have ones bigger screens.
Agreed
I got mine last week. It's amazing!!!!!
Price?
@@prashanthb4565 it's gonna be around 150 USD
I really like this one, hoping once the rg505 has been out for a little while this one will go down in price.
I got the P variant, but I'm too old for 3.5" screens :/

I'm thinking going with retro pockets 3 plus ,waiting for people to start dropping images for it lol
Since there's two sd card slots can you back up a sd card to another sd card without a PC(by backing up on the 353m itself)
Very interesting stuff!
Waiting for the pocket 3.2+
Man I just started getting more into emulators (I only used my phone to emulate GBA games before) and I don't even know which one to buy, there's so many of them, I might have to buy multiple of them
Does Gauntlet Legends (any version work? ) Blitz also.
I find it funny. They are putting out new revisions faster that windows does updates. Even faster than my rabbits multiplying.
I have it am really enjoying it but I should have waited for the Retroid Pocket 3 + to come out instead.

backlog? this is released earlier than rg505 since the retrofans screamed for an m version of that particular chip.
Does it play most mame games? Nba jam and mortal kombat?
Nice Review.. How much please?Where Can I Buy Online or Actual Stores please?Built in Games Already please?

No it cannot be used as a controller,
The buttons and layout can inly be used on the device
@@XxSYNDROISxX yes it can. You need to be running the stock Linux firmware. why don't you look it up first before running your stupid mouth.
I'm new to this kinda things and am so overwhelmed, don't know what to buy
How do you have so many games?
mine is coming tomorrow
Is the Touchscreen feature just in the Android side of the System or is it a general thing?
Android feature
Was there gamecube?
Ambernicotine fit when they don’t release a new one daily.
Does it have L1, L2, L3, R1, R2 and R3?
Nice handheld...just too smalll for my old man eyes. If Im not wearing contacts I can see up close no problem..but when I am I'm screwed.
The Ambernic 505 just released. I think it emulates PS2.
I can only imagine Anbernics landfill.
Wearing Rammstein merch in a thumbnail for a retro handheld review? Take my sub!
Does this play 3DS games?

I'll consider buying one of these devices when I can play fzero gx at 60fps with at least 2x resolution.
I will buy one when it can run red dead redemption for ps3 at 3x resolution.
Imagine if you collected them lol
Can it play PS2 games well or nah?
No, not at all. The bigger devices can do that like the RG505 and the Retroid Pocket 3+
I'd play these things once and then just sell it or give it away
$170 oof 😅
Agreed. These things arent cheap anymore. If they break its not like you can return it eadily if at all.

I did aswell. From the reviews I see, its the best of its size and form factor. Of course the RP3+ is better cause its about three times the size.
Its not because the time you get it there a new one out
I can't stand the menu system on these devices. I would pay extra if the optimized it for regions.
I don’t get it every reviewer does the same review SHOW THE GAMES LIST FOR AT LEAST PS1 and n64 psp dream cast gba advanced scroll through something
Oh c'mon Amico, you can do it! 🤣
Can it play halo 3?
I'm just not interested in these anymore since getting the steam deck. GameCube and PS2 on the go no problem. I will say the joysticks sound good.
this isn’t new. it’s older then the 505 by a longshot

And the rk3566 can run most N64 games full speed now though (most).
Any handheld besides Steam Deck is honestly e-waste.
nah PS Vita is fantastic.
Valve "invented" DRM. I'll never buy anything from them. Also, Steam Deak is too bulky.
