Nice, solid, and honest review. I own the RG351M and RG351MP. This one seems very nice with its smaller form factor and logo removed from the front. I wonder if you could remove the white select and start words with nail polish or WD-40?
I understand the metal frame and a couple things that make it your preference, but why pay the same price as an RP3+? It can easily pull the PSP performance over this one, and dip into moderate GC/PS2, game streaming, and android gaming. Not trying to be a naysayer, just feel like price/performance is inferior and don't feel like that was addressed well in the video. That said, glad Anbernic is putting out a decent product, and hopefully the 505 delivers.
I have like 30 of these (probably more) because once a month the best one ever pops up. I've decided to just spend my money on modded original consoles. They'll still be worth something next week.

I personally think they would sell like crazy and that would definately replace my v90 if I could play ps1 and dreamcast games on it. Gotta dream on :)

What handheld would you recommend being from London and is it easy to learn how to put games on these handhelds if Iv never done this before? Thanks.
I'm going to assume your favorite before was the RG351MP. My favorite 3.5 Anbernic at the moment is the RG353P. I still like the RG300X as well. I do however love the design of this new RG353M, especially the thinness of the handheld compared to the RG351MP. I don't know whether to purchase an RG353M or not. If so, I'd get the Deep Purple Edition. What I'm waiting for from Anbernic is the RG505. Want the 5 inch display Anbernic.
Nah, 7" linux based thats not expensive lol Btw Jono, at the moment for a short while I could get the RG552 for what works out to be usd $143 locally. If I buy this, what do I need to do to optimize the experience and games? Should I for example somehow replace their SD card with some good one? New OS? More games?
The 3.5 inch screen is just too small. I have an rg350m and love the feel of it and all, but the screen size keeps me from playing it. You will notice yourself cranking down your neck or holding your arms up high(and getting tired after longer sessions).
It looks awesome, I just wish the psp was great with these. I loved the metal shell but man I'd love psp games on this, that can play like god of war and dantes inferno
Problem is even if power is there, the resolution would probably still be out of whack anyway. Isn't PSP more of a wide-screen device? This looks closer to 4:3.
This may be unusual but could I buy this , disassemble it and spray it white? All my tech is white and I want it to match my Xbox and Pc , I want to recolour the casing without affecting the buttons or screen
Hey guys, I am fairly new to retro portable consoles. What would you recommend? I wish to buy something at an affordable price which preferably could run up to ps2 or at least ngc
This is very difficult because of availability of displays: it seems there's a lot of 3.5" 640x480 displays on the market, while a, say, 4" 640x480 or higher resolution doesn't exist and it should be built on purpose. Not impossible, but for sure it will be way more expensive.

Evening mate Iv really got into watching your review and wanted to ask a few questions.
I wanna buy a handheld for the first time and want to play games like Pokémon red, blue and yellow and even games like goldeneye on n64. What handheld would you recommend being from London and is it easy to learn how to put games on these handhelds if Iv never done this before?
Thanks.
Nowadays I expect Bluetooth connectivity for my Beats. Finally.
Nah, 7" linux based thats not expensive lol
Btw Jono, at the moment for a short while I could get the RG552 for what works out to be usd $143 locally.
Tempted but you know me and the need for 7" screen. 😁
Even if the aspect ratio of the 552 makes it slightly larger than my Max.. Still.. Dunno man lol
Yeah, loved the 351MP!
@@fonzitheman I just installed an android frontend from the Google Play Store, compatible with my Powkiddy X17 called RESET Collection. Now my Powkiddy X17 is just like a Linux based 7 inch handheld! Just thought you may want to know that.
@@RetroDodo Are you gonna keep your RG351MP or sell it? Did the RG353M totally replace your RG351MP?
For me, my RG353P totally replaced my RG351MP.
@@jonathonearl482
Its not and android front end 😁
Its an emulator front end. 😎
And yeah, I know about it, ive tried it on a phone and I used to use Dig on the JXD. Thats another one.
I even made some themes for Dig.
Reset collection needs android 7 minimum which the X17 has.
The one Retro Game Corps done recently, forgot the name, starts with a D is apparently real good and free.
But it needs minimum android 8.
These are emulator front ends though, apps.
What Im after is that without all the stuff that comes with android.
The linux based ones have that.
Just bought one of these after this review, thanks Jonah Hill!
You’re welcome.
I preferred this over the retro pocket 3+ as I got also an Odin pro to have full GC and PS2 compability
Nice!
I really wish there was a console this size capable of gamecube and ps2, even if it was for a premium price
That will come.
Hi there, will you pick this over the retroid pocket 3 performance wise?
Rp3 + is around that range of price but could run ps2 when it’s out could you do a comparison? I just got the rg353v and I’m loving it but this one looks pretty good too… what do you recommend?
What mario game was this at 6:23? It looks different than the one I have played as a kid?
super mario advance 2
I'll return mine. The D-Pad is way too sensitive. Playing Jump'n Run's I always find myself accidentally crouching.
If I buy this, what do I need to do to optimize the experience and games? Should I for example somehow replace their SD card with some good one? New OS? More games?
Is it possible with the RG353M to play GB, GBC and GBA Games in Multiplayer (link cable Support)? Thanks for the always good videos.
Greetings. Two questions please. Are this metal consoles immune to rust? Do they get hot when you play them for a while?
@Retrododo564 What reward and how to claim it???...
Can't wait till the rg505
Just orderedine from AliExpress , was a bit concerned as I've not heard of the website before , is it reliable?
Damn. This thing is pretty cool. I just bought a Steam Deck though.
Can you flash Lineage on to it that would be great
Retro dodo you missed the added Bluetooth and WiFi for this device.
I mentioned It in specs
What would you recommend for someone that just wants a retro handheld to play as many Pokémon games as possible as easily as possible?
Powkiddy products are very simple, and play a lot of Pokémon games. Perhaps look at the RGB20S
3ds xl u can even play pokemon sun etc all emulate
Valve Steam Deck, upper tier version.
The 3.5 inch screen is just too small. I have an rg350m and love the feel of it and all, but the screen size keeps me from playing it.
You will notice yourself cranking down your neck or holding your arms up high(and getting tired after longer sessions).
So where do you guys get games for the console and OS? Thanks
This is the best retro handheld if you ask me
will this run Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights on PSP?
Brandon can you review the Retriod Pocket 3+ ?
Yes we will try and get one in.
Can you install other emulators into the Linux side? What is compatible? Is it a standard linux or something like Dingux?
This may be unusual but could I buy this , disassemble it and spray it white? All my tech is white and I want it to match my Xbox and Pc , I want to recolour the casing without affecting the buttons or screen
Do they already come with games
Woweee. He went from bashing anbernic to loving them again.
Hey guys, I am fairly new to retro portable consoles. What would you recommend? I wish to buy something at an affordable price which preferably could run up to ps2 or at least ngc
Which super mario game was that, on the DS, where Mario is giant?
Apart from tbe build quality and size... Why would you buy this over RP3+?
I have the same question...
If you compare retroid pocket 3 , which one is better buy?
Probably this one, but the 3+ is coming out and a better anbernic RG505 too
ay retro doo dooo been a while sinse i seen ur videos do a powkiddy s18 ultra review no one has a review in english yet get on dat muh boiii
S18 Ultra?
Hey, can you play The classic monster Hunters on this ?
Thanks!
No N64 testing?
Will we ever get a screen size larger than 3.5" for 4:3 devices?
This is very difficult because of availability of displays: it seems there's a lot of 3.5" 640x480 displays on the market, while a, say, 4" 640x480 or higher resolution doesn't exist and it should be built on purpose. Not impossible, but for sure it will be way more expensive.
Been playing with mine for quite a bit and I wanna know was anyone else dealing with any audio glitches with Dreamcast games? Specifically Sonic Adventure? Everytime i was near a car in the hub world or on of those spinning top enemies their sound effects were loud as hell to the point where i couldn't hear the level music.
Is it better than retroid pocket 2+ performance wise?
Hi, any chance this would play some GC and PS2 games as Retroid Pocket 2+?
Nah, not powerful enough for that :(
