Hi Phil and Phil of Glimmer followers.
I was going over the cards this morning and remembered 3 more of them that were inspired by famous people.
Norvel Twonk is (very) loosely inspired by Sean Connery. More in attitude than features.
Celestine Warbeck was inspired by Patti LaBelle. She has such talent and presence.
Morgan le Fay was inspired by Sophia Loren. Morgan needed that touch of both class and beauty.

I also replayed the (german) voicelines that read it in HP3 PC countless times as a kid. The artwork on the wizard cards made it feel even more authentic and I always loved the style.

Big thanks to Jeff Willis for talking to me, it was fascinating to hear about the making of these games (and how he made Hesper Starky the absolute legend that she is). A longer unedited video of our whole chat (~1h in length!) will be coming out later this week/next week, featuring even more of your questions! Please give Jeff some love at twitter.com/jeffwillisart or jeffwillisartist.com

the artstyle for the cards and the game as a whole is legendary

  • @bubaxis1

You cannot overstate how important these cards were for me. My first PC came pre-installed with the copy of Chamber for some reason and as a 8 year old kid I didn't know much english at all and I actually haven't seen the movie or read the book yet. But I somehow managed to play through the whole thing. Also the pokemon trading cards were really big phenomenon at the time and I was heavily into them, so when I saw that you can actually collect all the wizard cards in this game, it was like my two most favorite things in the world came together. I managed to collect them all, I was so proud of my collection. And then I got an idea... Through my mom I had access to programs like photoshop and such, and I decided to create actual physical cards. I screenshot every single one of them, created the back sides even... with the text I couldn't read at the time, printed them in several copies (in varied rarity of course), laminated them, cut them out and handed out randomized packs in my class. We would then try to trade them back to get complete sets. It was just awesome.

I loved the little pieces of lore we got from the cards. Made the world really feel bigger and more fleshed out. I always wondered how it would be if we got a game about some of these characters, and that's also the reason why the third game is my favourite, as it is the one with the biggest number of cards of the trilogy.

It’s getting harder and harder these days to enjoy „Harry Potter“ as a franchise, and a large part of that is because of some people who were involved. J.K. Rowiling, obviously, for her atrocious transphobia, but also unfortunately Jeremy Soule who has very heavy and serious allegations on his conscience. The better then that there are those smaller creators who also worked tirelessly to bring this franchise where it now is and who are also celebrated for their work. People who illustrated the cards, who made the games, who designed Hogwarts exterior and interior for the movies, who designed costumes, especially wands - for me those people, not the Rowlings, Soules or even Radcliffes and Rickmans of this world are worth celebrating, not as individualities, but as a part of a creative community. That is why I enjoyed this interview very much, besides the fact that I always LOVED the cards in those games. To this day I consider them to be the best collectible that I came across in all my years of gaming. So cheers to you, sir, for not focusing on the big names and finding joy in speaking to great creators such as Mrs. Willis. Oh, and please, please, for the love of God, let this comment not age like a fine milk...
