New Method! Air Layering Propagation with Water
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 сен 2019
- Air layering propagation is one of the most popular ways to get identical characteristic of the plant with the original one. There are many growth media that can be used on the air layering propagation process such as potting soil, sphagnum moss, peat moss, cocopeat, rockwool, and so on. But on this video we would not utilize those growth media. We try something new that maybe nobody has ever think about this to be applied on air layering propagation. We use water instead of using those common growth media.
The process are really simple and similar to the one that use other growth medium. What we do here is changing the growth medium with water. We use plastic cups as the water container. We applied the air layering propagation on water apple/ wax apple/ rose apple fruit tree. For the detail of the air layering propagation process using water just watch the video. Хобби
For climates with a cold winter, use the water method until roots form, when roots are established fill the cup with soil and make drainage holes, let roots grow into soil, after another month or so cut the branch from the tree then repot into a container and take inside for the winter until next spring. Air layering doesn't work well with apples and pears, but this method will work better. Thanks
It's nice tips. Thank you for sharing with us.
What month in south Texas should you start this on a avocado tree?
Hello can you do it on breadfruits
@Hi-Yo Silver: Early spring is the best time to do this method

Good idea. This process can be applied only when the branches are almost vertical. For horizontal branches this method may not be helpful, although can be done with some modifications.
Yes that's right. For horizontal branch you may check our other videos in this channel

Bijay Sharma Уважаемые Друзья! буду рад видеть вас на моём канале подписывайтесь и будете получать уведомления о новых моих цитрусовых растениях!
Really good idea. I think 2 slight drawbacks, but not too bad, is those water logged roots will be more delicate to transplant vs. roots generated in a wrapped method with damp media. The cup seems questionable, too many chances for something to knock it around and it loses water.
Regular method of air layering with wrapped growth medium will be easier to transfer to soil off course. Yes it's very risky, so we need to care them
I tried this method before but u are right that the roots are more delicate. I successfully managed to grow roots but upon transferring, the roots all breaks so gone were my hard work and waiting for 3 months. Since then, I am not keen any more to try this method
Interesting, easy method for air layering
Thank you! Cheers!

Are u a pakistani?
I am an indian.
Have u invented this idea?
If so i am proud of u.knowledge is above all . We are brothers. Oneday knowledge will unite us all.
No I'm not. We are Indonesian. Yes we are all brothers. No, it's not our invention. We have just applied this method. We don't know who was the first guy that found this method exactly
Good idea to cut bushes and trees along this method. Perhaps it is another idea to speed up the rooting process by interrupting the bark around the trunk under the water reservoir. The return sap flows from the cuttings cannot then continue to the roots of the mother plant. The glucose-rich sap streams after photosynthesis in the leaves flow under the bark to feed the newly formed plant roots. The water juice flow from the roots through the wood vessels of the mother plant nourish the leaves of the cutting, until the cutting itself develops sufficient new root growth.
I experiment for hobby with various cutting methods.
That's right. Thank you for your sharing. You know much about plant and gardening. Nice
Excellent idea…. Thank you 😊

looks easy and promising.
Pls do a follow up video. I wanted to see when you transplanted it. And how many months it bear fruits. Thanks for the informative upload.

Wow amazing new kind of propagation I will try it nice video and thanks for sharing..what tree is that and why is water still clear for so many days? May I know?
Thank you. It's a water apple (wax apple) tree. The water and plastic cup still clear since we change the water twice a week and also clean the cup

👍 Thank you for sharing!
Jesus 💕 you !

Well done, next convert them to soil growing
Yes that's exactly what we need to do
What a nice idea! Thank you for sharing. What about transplanting them? How do you remove the part to be planted ?
Thank you. Transplanting them is similar with regular method, just cut the branch, remove the cup, and plant new plant in new growth medium
Great work, two thumbs up.
Thank you
Now I know why the Bible says "Water is Life" .:-)
Thank you for sharing this Brother/Sister. :-)
That's very right dear. You're so welcome.
Do you just cut the branch after that and plant it? Thank you for a great informative video.
Yes that's absolutely right. Just like ordinary method
Nice demo for a great idea. I'm going to try this on my thornless blackberries and raspberries next year and I'll let you know how it goes. I'd like to try it on my apple trees but less confident it would work without opening them up to pests or disease. What do you think? Do you think it could introduce fungus, p-ests, or disease?
It depends on our environment and treatment. If there are potential fungus etc in your area the risk will be higher. But with the right treatment it can be reduced
Great method and video. Thank you!
You're welcome
I have some forsythia's I've been trying to get to propagate and unsuccessful every time. I'm trying this method!! Thanks!!!!

Nice. This method can be useful for making aerial roots on a ficus or peepal tree?
Yes it is possible to be applied
Mauricio, para hacer un bonsai?
Can this method be use on any kind of tree?
Great idea... Will try this
next time you must do this above a set of leaves then you can cut the branch off and the tree will have a chance to regenerate
Thanks for your suggestion
loved the video , going to try it on different plants and will post the experience. Thanks for sharing and replying
You're welcome and good luck
howd it go?
amazing,I have to do like that, thank you for good coaching
You're welcome
Can I try this method on my crab apple plant and what's the best time of year to do this method in the UK please can you let me know. Thanks.
Yes it's possible to do. The best time to do this method is on early spring.
Nice video! I was wondering though, where do you cut it after it has rooted well enough? At the starting point of the knife cut? So where you put the knife against the stem and start hammering? Or higher up where the cut ends? Or doesn't matter?
We should cut it under the starting point of the cut since there are many roots from the starting point to the end when they are ready to transfer
thank you, can we do this on Fire tree?
Very Nice Video
I will use this method next week
Thanks for sharing
You're welcome. Happy practicing
Great idea!!
👏👏👏
Thank you
I have problems with mosquitoes in my area. Should I do this method and cover the cups with some screen to keep the female mosquitoes from laying eggs in the water.
Yes you may cover it and will avoid the mosquito breeding
Hi.. Have you tried it at rambutan tree?
How long it will takes in this process?
Not yet. But it's harder to apply this to rambutan tree since the roots are difficult to grow
Mesmerising idea. .feeling as i have seen a dream. .thanks for sharing lovely tips. .i will try. .this month is September. ..again thanks
You're so welcome. Happy gardening
Super Video.Danke!
Danke
They become open roots. Direct contact with air when transfer to the soil.
So it may not be issue for sub tropical or tropical climates but what about 4 seasons regions?
The best tree planting time is when it is in dormancy. Which is February March or April.
So how to apply this for cold climates.. is a question.
So I will answer that, which is a thought.
When it starts rooting, fill the cup gradually with soil.. and to the end full soil.. while keeping always moist.
Then maybe without disturbing roots with air, can be transferred to soil.???
Direct contact with air for short period is not a problem actually. Yes it's better if we change the water with soil or other growth medium like cocopeat to make it easier to transfer to garden or any container where we want to plant it. Thank you for your sharing and visiting
Thank you for sharing
I was asking is that theonly breed of plant u tryed this method on
No it is not. We have applied this method to some various fruit trees. Wait for our next videos to get the updates
Thank you for sharing
I have a stem from a plant. I put it in water hoping it would grow
Good luck
they do sometimes grow, some plants work better than others
nope the % of live is less
Brilliant idea
Thanks a lot
Great idea. Thank you the video.
Thank you
Is that method your original idea? Wow, that's an inovation if it works.
No, we didn't say this is our idea. But we've not found yet who invented this method
I have another innovation, rooting from leaf. Of course it is old method used centuries : D.
@@ArcticYuzu seen a guy from India doing it in mass. Now I am trying it to bring my favorite guava from my first house to my current house.
@@ArcticYuzu can you explain this method?
@@Gregarious3 did it work? I've some guava trees to relocate too
Won't the roots go into shock upon being buried in soil?
Why not, instead, put a few drain holes in the bottom of the cup then fill it with soil? That way when the roots grow, they will be used to being in soil thereby limiting transplant shock.
Update: last night I watched a video on RUclips that shows exactly this process.
There's always possibility of getting shocked. But they will grow normally then. Thank you for sharing
I saw another video that, in order, to gradually transition from this to...have mushy dirt ( wet dirt) , plant the "new" plant in a pot with holes (so the water can drain and the plant does not go moldy ) and then gradually have less water. Some plants may become fuzzy when transferring. Just log what works and what doesn't for that particular plant/species. Sometimes its just a matter of more sunshine, more shade, more or less water. Blessings.
perhaps the roots grow faster in clean water without dirt, but idk
They run a risk of drying out when transplanting any air layer as the moisture will come predominantly from the xylem vessels in the centre of the branch so keep the soil damp as you transition from tree to pot. Reducing foliage on top will reduce water stress at transplanting too.
Great idea. Thank you.
You're welcome
Very ingenious. Thank you.
Thank you
hi, thanks for the amazing video,
bro what type of plant is that? is it water apple?
You're welcome. Yes that's right. It's water apple tree. Thank you for watching
I am very impressed with the results. Does that mean we do not need rooting hormone for air layering?
Yes it does. Rooting hormone is no needed for most plants since they will grow new roots easily. Maybe it's needed in certain areas that the weather is extreme.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing
You're welcome
Thanks for sharing. (-: Greetings from the Netherlands
You're welcome
Can this be done on an Euryops pectintatus grey leaf golden shrub daisy
Yes it's possible to apply
How long will it take to root will it work on all friut tree's
Normally roots will start appearing in week 3 or 4. We think so. We have tried this method to some fruit trees, and yes, it works.
Xheniale! Bravo, Fantastice!
Multumesc
Excellent Job
Thanks for sharing
You're so welcome
You should show the next step also. How did you transplant it or you just left it like that. If left it just like that, then what is the use of this. How is this useful for plant.
To transplant the new plant just cut the branch just like in other air layering method. Anyway thank you for your suggestion
I asked about transplant because I have never heard of air layering before. Your video is good but it could have been more helpful if you told us about the benefits of this method.
OK thank you for your suggestion
I was wondering the same...
Sonal Rathore The wish is to get a clone and a bigger tree in very few time. For bonsai lovers a real must.
Hello there! I'm just wandering if it works with apricot, nectarine, or peach..and when spring time to summer..pls reply..I need to do air layer to this fruits..and for how long before it bears fruits..
Yes it's possible to apply this method to those trees. Spring is the best time to do air layering propagation. It's usually will start bearing fruits 2-3 years later after planting the new plant from air layering process.
@Max Raider won't they just be taller without rootstock?
That looks so easy, thank you
Yes it is. Thank you
Wonderful idea for grafting.
