Your not wrong, whats more likely though is that as he gets older his speed has decreased,he can still outplay 99 percent of the best players in terms oif pure speed alonje, but dear god at his prime here just bloody beyond absurd,I htink he can still play at least 75+ percent this fast, but yes hes held back and matured in his later years of course for sure.
I'm late. But I agree. But I also think that at this stage of his career, Paul has nothing left to prove. So for him speeding up and down the fretboard now simply doesn't have the same value anymore.
Back in the days he was totaly different Person, same with Yngwie, time changes everything and everyone. For me personally the Racer X tapes Street Lethal and Second Heat are one of the best Heavy Metal Shred Albums eher made
Hi there’s another ‘rare’ Paul Gilbert video. The setting is exactly the same like this video but he was wearing a t-shirt and at one point his alarm card on his wallet went off and he paused to turn it off. He played unlike himself. Many unheard of licks. I can’t find it anymore in youtube.
@Tushar Sharma Jason Becker was along with Shawn Lane the fastest guitarists back in the day with a speed of 18-22nps alternate picking. Meanwhile Paul would go 15 nps alternate picking. But they have been dethroned by new guitar players much faster and technical now. Jason had also great technique as Paul lmao. Both very clean players.
@Tushar Sharma Well, that´s where I´m telling you all about. I really like to analyze very carefuly to any detail on the technique of any guitar player. And yes, I´ve compared it. Jason has far faster picking technique and there´s footage of it (Tied with Shawn Lane 18 to 22nps) As for who´s clean, both are. Tbf both of them had pretty shitty video recordings filmed with a bad quality camera and microphone, Paul even appears to sound dirty and loosing some notes on some of this videos, but it really isnt, its just the shitty camera that doesnt really help. While you can also see some Paul videos where there is actually a good microphone and you can tell very clearly the difference. This is a very good recorded video. ruclips.net/video/1cBovf9OfrE/видео.html But well at the end of the day, both are great guitar players!
@Demmettreus I'm going to *assume* that he's using the 'standard' minor sweeping arpeggio shapes, but adding in notes from the corresponding minor scale on the high E string. I suppose that doesn't help... search for 'Paul Gilbert Intense Rock - Arpeggios.' In that video, he explains it.
i know he is much better now than before. he is balance on his playing. he is more melodic. i have seen one of his interview he said that on your 30 yrs of playing electric guitar. you should find new stuffs. like marty friedman and the other guitarists out there. if i am paul gilbert playing 30yrs in guitar i will got boring too if i am playing the same old stuffs. ALWAYS LEARN NEW THINGS. Godbless you all :)
like to choreograph it to my the Racer X "Shooting Star" car model from Speed Racer. Great solos! Maybe to a screeching tire shot with Paul's manic guitar playing. I just did a scale to that car with Bright Yellow paint(1968 version, not the gaudy theater variant) and car would look great on a tread mill in cam shot. I, of course, have lubed ball bearing hubs on the wheels.
Ibanez Wilshire with dimarzio super distortion pickups( you dont really have to get an ibanez wilshire) Marshall Superlead, and if im not mistaken maybe a tube screamer to go with it. Equalization wise not to much bass say like 4-5, mids 4-6, and treble 7-8. If you have any presence and resonance knobs, then presence should be somewhere at 8-9, and resonance should be 5-6. Hope it sounds similar.
Also gain should be between 6-7 dont know anything about the setting of the tube screamer but leave the distortion knob on 3 o clock level and tune should be on the 12 o clock position
I think it is a variation of a lick on his "intense rock" DVD. Alt picking but then sweeps down and up. you can see him tilt the pick to sweep downward etc. Then the very last part sounds legato
Id say, try picking in an extreme angle..almost perpendicular to the strings....also try playing close to the bridge. Other than that..."lots of presence" (Intense Rock 1 joke)
The level of picking in this video is what I want to, and will, attain. I don't give a damn about sweeps or tapping or any of that shit. I just want to pick as well as good ol' PG did in this video. Not LIKE him, just similar in skill. And I will. I will.
the lack of applause is from the stunned audience thinking what are they going to do with all that free time they have realizing THEY are not going to be the next EDDIE.
It's one of Paul's old custom pink Racer X guitars... this is an Ibanez based on an Epiphone Wilshire body. And I think those pickups were Seymour Duncan. In the Intense Rock I tape he used an RG shaped replica of this and had SD's.
@3:37 Gilbert's awesomeness begins to melt the video tape.
1:37 That run is absolutely insane
Yes it is!! Love it
Its astonishing just how good Paul was at this age.
the cleanliness...
The Bruce Bouillet's mighty sweep from Sacrifice at the end, nice! They were the best shredding's duo of all time in my opinion.
He was definitely best then, nuts speed, articulation, and vibrato.
You can hear some of those licks made it on the racer x song sacrifice
I get the feeling Paul is always holding back. Like he could easily out play anyone but he rarely goes that hard.
hes like shawn lane light

McGunther its always about how good you can play
I'm late. But I agree. But I also think that at this stage of his career, Paul has nothing left to prove. So for him speeding up and down the fretboard now simply doesn't have the same value anymore.
@@Sebster85 Yep, in the 80s you had to be a fast player to be in a hard rock or metal band. Now, not so much.
Back in the days he was totaly different Person, same with Yngwie, time changes everything and everyone. For me personally the Racer X tapes Street Lethal and Second Heat are one of the best Heavy Metal Shred Albums eher made
When he plays the same note on every string at once that was crazy
Yeah, both Becker and Paul, so young yet have so much ability
The best guitarist in the world
Those clean notes and tidy picking
PAUL! Do those kinds of licks in your future albums! We want to hear some of your extreme shredding!
This was his prime for sure, his chops are just super pleasant!
Hey Ibanez!!
Please release the “Iba-Phone”!!
Please??
(I know I know..Gibson will probably get all legal about it..)
We need the Iba-Phone!!!
The shredding from 3:38 was so fast that it made some disruptions to the camera.
Retro Walkthroughs that camera was like, daayyuummm lol
Paul can play everything today that he did back then.He just uses less speed, since he's more focused on melody now.
He’s awesome
That kind of dexterity can't be matched even by Paul himself now.
3:35 - Paul's shredding starts to overwhelm the videotape and just becomes too much. Tape begins melting.
He wore that same tshirt in Intense Rock I
pleaseee do a reaction video of Paul lookin back at himself. should be fun to watch.
He rips so hard here....and the sound is great.Pretty much on the top of his game.
His fingers always remind me of the face hugger in Alien 👽
best sound ever
best sound ever..
Some shredder can't do that...
Paul was 21 in this video...
This man are my super influence! one day i feel like him!
@fraaz Not sure if Georgia Music and Stereo exists anymore, but that's awesome.
I have posted a lesson on this lick, well one of them, check it out brothers
i think its a ephiphone olympic shape. i remember he said that in a racer x interview in guitar world.

21 years old..... damn...
What a beast
He has the fastest picking technique i've ever seen.
Look for Shawn Lane and Jason Becker lol
@@madden7732 Stephen Taranto.
@@ericksaulchangperez9388 Great guitar player!

can someone plese tell me the pattern o the lick he s playin at 00:22 ....
amazing upload, who has the full video?
There are more notes in this video than there are frames...
I wounder if the uses a compressor in this clinic :/ I sure cant get that smooth sound with out one!

cool
great paul is the best sorry satriani vai malstem and many more
@fraaz Hey, I live in Albany, GA! You're telling me Paul was here?
Somebody have tabs for the exercise of the first part?
This is Paul at the top of his fucking game

what happned whit that PAUL GILBERT D: ?
that. was. insane. lol
That lick from 3:01. The same note lick is crazy!
He was blazing fast when he was young. Why now...he has mellowed a little.,,
Thanks :!!!
@Demmettreus I never had a teacher either! Theory is so fun to learn yourself!
0:05 - 0:12 Bruh
You can see that PG could go faster
But he's always holding back..
He's like a walking library of licks
@Demmettreus Not from a song. Just sweeping exercises!
@YummyBananaFish what is the shapes hes use?
21 years. He was born in 1966.
the shred at 3:35 was so awesome it made the camera freak out!
That made disruptions to the time and space...
@justbrandonll thx a lot!!!
Paul is ripping here, I don't think he can play that quick anymore. And I think he rips Yngwie here
.
he can he just chooses not to and I don't know why
He's just being a nice guy.
I think he got bored of always going fast and doing crazy stuff...
Anton Oparin was ripping paul gilbert at 14
Anyone knows what gear he used here? like what amp and pedals? this tone is great!
Ibanez Wilshire with dimarzio super distortion pickups( you dont really have to get an ibanez wilshire) Marshall Superlead, and if im not mistaken maybe a tube screamer to go with it. pawelos420 anything for a paul gilbert fan :)
justbrandonll actually it sounds like his MP1 preamp he used in Racer X, but i could be wrong
I love when he says "You can try a few variations.." (plays 2,000,000 notes) "..kind of like that.."
0:22 is that all alternate picked?!
I think it is a variation of a lick on his "intense rock" DVD. Alt picking but then sweeps down and up. you can see him tilt the pick to sweep downward etc. Then the very last part sounds legato
0:22 to :41 PLIS what is the song's name?
Pretty gooooood!
he had more juice in the tank than he has today
Paul Gilbert proved that anyone can shred if they really work their ass off for it and that real men play pink, not just wear it.
Where can i get tab?
It's a custom Ibanez based on an Epiphone Olympic. He and Bruce both had one.
❤Wish Ibanez would release that same guitar;Prestige version, stoptail❤
Tabs?
he can rip any guitar shredder out there if he wanted to. he just decided to slow down a little bit
Only a player of his level can make a pink guitar cool.
What pickup is he using
I liked Paul's shreddier days but nowadays he's very musical and plays with more taste.
he still is blazing fast when he wants to be
Yeah I know but he does his old fast things very Rarely now.The reason why people think he isn't fast enough.
His attack sounds like a machine gun..any tips on getting that type of sound outside of picking harder?
I think he explains that in his "Intense rock 2" video
Id say, try picking in an extreme angle..almost perpendicular to the strings....also try playing close to the bridge. Other than that..."lots of presence" (Intense Rock 1 joke)
practice bitch. mute.
What interview did you see PG say that?
The level of picking in this video is what I want to, and will, attain. I don't give a damn about sweeps or tapping or any of that shit. I just want to pick as well as good ol' PG did in this video. Not LIKE him, just similar in skill. And I will. I will.
@Nic Stoller probably didn't
what scale is he using? sorry for my bad english
What amp and setup is he using in this video?
2:56
-So, here they are
-NO!
it's actually "Slow!"
he was born anatomically a guitar player
Biblically accurate guitar player
but I was 17 in 1998, when Backstreet boys' were on top of the charts. I Was trying to get my friends' into Steve Vai! Creed was also popular lol
tank top and all
any info about whats that ibanez?
@YummyBananaFish
I'll do a search, I do not know a lot of music theory. I never had a teacher = / ... but I will research.
Thanks =)
His shredding is so sick to camera threw up, thats what happened to the camera at towards the end
@ismelljello nah I think he saids quickly ''paul his a god cos' he can play faster than lighting''
4:33 Sweeps ig
during this time, I wonder who would win in a guitar battle.... paul gilbert or jason becker?
Jason by far, on the video Jason Becker Jam 1986 plays at the speed of 18 nps. Ties with Shawn Lane.
@MitchD17
Did you film this video yourself? Otherwise it doesn't really belong to you.
that is pure insanity
what kind of guitar is that?
why couldn't I be 17 in 1987!!!!!!????
I wish man, i wish. I was born in 2001 😣
thumbs up if u love the "same note on very string"
@AstriBlair Perhaps he got tired of being a "god of speed"?
the lack of applause is from the stunned audience thinking what are they going to do with all that free time they have realizing THEY are not going to be the next EDDIE.
