Hi OCA, A1 Evo is fantastics. This is the first time I have not checked the graphs after doing a calibration. The system sounds so good, I didn't bother checking how the responses are on the graph. Having said that, I tired ady calibrated with v1.3 and v1.5. My observation.....Not sure why, but my system sounds more open/ airy and punchy with v1.0 than v1.3/ v1.5. I prefer the sound with v1.0 than v1.3 and v1.5

@ocaudiophile. Another success. I believe the reflection detection is working as the sound has more presence. And soundstage is a bit bigger. Not sure how it can get much bigger at this point! TY again 🎉😊

We just got back from our 2,400 mile trip from Oregon to Dallas via Montana and Wyoming. Unloaded the car, still haven’t unpacked, but could not go to bed without downloading and installing 2.3x!
I’m totally speechless! OMG! This is unbelievable. Something that was amazing, just got better! Unreal!
No errors during processing. Downloaded 2.3x. Installed REW 36 beta. Used the TargetCurve OCA, and the script did its magic.
My Marantz SR8015, EMOTIVA XPA-3 Gen 3, Eversolo DMP-A6 and Martin Logan Motion 60XTi are sounding like systems costing 3-4 times more! What a talent! Thank you for taking my system to another level. When I thought it was great, it just got even better! No words to express my satisfaction and happiness with the EVO 2.3x results. Amazing!

v3x is stunning and congratulations on another fantastically exceptional release, you have nailed it again! It sure is the most impressive version yet. I have presets 1 (All script defaults - LFE+Main / Front large / Bass extraction 90) and preset 2 (Forced centre enabled / LFE). These will be swapped from time to time, to really allow me to get a sense of sound for each one as Preset 1 (LEF+Mains/Front Large etc) fits nice with wider types of sound sources and works very very well. I don’t think I can categorically say right now which is preference, I think this will come with a little time and also allow me to get feedback from the rest of the family. Maybe Preset 2 forced centre with front speakers large MAY edge it for me personally? The dialogue/vocals are first class. What I can say is right now with 3x I don’t need centre channel level increase and/or dialogue enhancer enabled. Only DV light enabled and this is for both Preset 1 and Preset 2. The master file version can be played louder (VD Light) without it becoming too overwhelming; which is ideal. Overall the bass balance, precision, detail and clarity is first class! What I have done and again the jury is out, was change the end frequency from 250hz to 380hz with a boost of 2. This feels very natural and seems to bring it in with the centre channel. Anything above 400/500 seems too constrained and less natural.
    So movies in summary:
Quiet Place 2 - Trip wire scene through to the circular hatch door - Sound of wire recoil, gun shot echo is heard all around when the guy is watching through the scope of his gun (Never heard this before!) is incredible, his breathing is also far more obvious (When he is watching through scope) and then the detail throughout that scene as they are chased is just amazing. Exceptional in fact! Wonderful balance
Barbie - Early at the start in the scene when she comes off the slide, the high vocals are clearer throughout including the backing singers which seem perfect. Dialogue is also wonderful, very clear, less boxy or thin and provides a more natural effortless open listening experience. It sparkles!
Baby Driver - Car being crushed scene (34mins 10secs) when he puts music on ipod - sounds again so natural and effortless; lovely! The bass is perfect, instruments are crystal clear, vocals are crystal clear which can also be said for when scene transitions into the cafe
Ready player 1 - car chase scene near the start, when he hits button/under side of car roof with hand (More detail in this now!), the coins are all so clean/clear and just generally wonderful detail and very dynamic and tight bass. The Atmos height effects have far more bass, especially kong jumping around really demonstrates this! This is the best I have heard this scene. Again as this scene m oves into the workshop, vocals are exceptional. I could argue that adjust in end frequency to 380 might have made this! (End frequency will be something I continue to play with but going up to 500/1000 didn’t do it for me, it had the opposite effect of allowing the speakers to do their thing)
Fall Guy, the dialogue is superb. I repeatedly listened to the split screen chat scene and overall was exceptional. I might argue here that force centre Preset 2 may (I Mean may - its really difficult to compare) just edge it; again we are into finer detail but which ever version it is great.
Finally, as noted elsewhere, the sub inversion might not necessarily need to be changed from 0 to 180. If anyone wants to test this theory, try Baby Driver from 34mins 10secs and try switching. I am hoping you will find the obvious setting, I definitely did.
Thank you once again for all your wonderful work, passion, expertise and inspiring new and existing audio enthusiasts alike. Please never stop doing what you are doing and keep challenging/exploring theories; there is no such thing as perfection right? We are still looking for it right!? As always, very much appreciated

A1 Evo v1.4 has been released (download link is in the description). It will work with REW Beta 33 and above (download links for Windows/Mac in the script).
Here is the list of changes/updates:
    Crossover and Volume Corrections:
    • Receiver models lacking 180Hz crossover frequency specification will no longer be assigned 180Hz crossover frequency
    • Volume disparities between measurements, stemming from an Android Editor app bug, have been rectified. Users will be alerted if their existing measurements show this issue
    • Large / Full range speakers are crossed over at 80Hz (THX standard) due to the absence of 'Bass extraction LPF' setting in all bar the newest AVR models for “LFE + Main” mode
    Alignment and Consistency:
    • Impulse/phase alignment results will correctly report when the required delay exceeds limits, instead of suggesting 0ms delay
    • Speaker time alignment margins have been further tightened
    • A minor crossover calculation bug has been fixed, though it's not expected to alter previously calculated crossover frequencies significantly
    New Features:
    • Implemented speaker out-of-phase detection
    • A center speaker is no longer required for Evo to optimize a calibration
    • The subwoofer volume is now automatically adjusted based on the target curve, replacing the post-v1.1 ‘subOffset’ variable
    • If filter frequency range is extended (not recommended!) beyond 225Hz, variable smoothing is applied to the speaker response before generating filters
    Performance and Stability:
    • All runs with the same calibration file are now expected to produce identical results
    • Improved API fetching techniques, coupled with REW Beta 32 updates, contribute to faster overall script execution
    • A1 Evo is now hosted in a dedicated folder with a persistent link across updates and links in descriptions in all languages will always work
    UI Enhancements:
    • The "Start optimization" button remains disabled until all measurements are imported and/or number of measurements loaded in REW match calibration file data
    • Users can now add a missing target curve to REW and resume the script without restarting
    • REW will accurately display expected individual channel outputs after applied crossovers along with the optimization target
    Enjoy!

    A1 Evo v3z released today (28 July 2024)...
Hey there, audio enthusiasts! OCA here, bringing you some seriously cool updates to A1 Evo v3x. Ready to geek out? Let's dive in!
    Compatibility:
    • Make sure you're rocking REW Beta version 43 or above for the best results. Seriously, avoid 42 and earlier betas like the plague.
    Key Updates:
    1. New Customization Option:
o Say hello to the "Force first microphone position" setting (default is now, wait for it: OFF). Turn it on to channel your inner control freak and use only the first mic position for calculations. Leave it off, and let the new averaging method work its magic, assigning different weights to mic positions based on their distance from the MLP. It’s a sluggish process but better sound for bigger spaces is guaranteed. Boom!
    2. Subwoofer LPF Tweaks:
o Got one or three subwoofers (or a forced capped LPF)? I've bumped up the bass extraction range to 110-120Hz (from 80-90Hz). More bass, less localization. Your neighbors will love it. Or not.
    3. Time Alignment Improvements:
o The speaker/subwoofer time alignment method just got a PhD. It's now handling even the trickiest measurements with pinpoint accuracy. Plus, the script’s got a keen eye for sketchy measurements, especially if your mic positions are too far apart (over 1.2m by default, but you can tweak this with “maxMicDistance” in the script).
    4. Preamplifier Detection:
o The anti-reference curve is now a preamp whisperer, recognizing even the new AV10. No extra bass boost needed because preamps already rock a flat response down to 20Hz. Science!
    Final Thoughts:
Remember, the default settings are already pretty rad for most setups. No need to tweak unless you're on a quest for audio perfection!
Enjoy the enhanced audio experience, folks!
    Best, OCA
P.S. Your ears are in for a treat! 🎧🔊
    Important:
Option tick boxes were not functioning correctly in some browsers depending on when they were selected. It's been fixed with a silent update @ 10:45 Central European Time on 30 Jul 2024
Please also note that ConvertStandard2Directional.html script was not working correctly and was fixed on 28 Jul 2024. Use this version if you want to adjust your dual subwoofers perfectly for older AVRs.

    • @BuffSquadBigBenni

Question regarding limitLPF = false (default).
I have one virtual sub (four subs in each corner combined via minidsp and plugged into sub 1 into the receiver). AVR has no bass extraction LPF setting (older AVR).
So Audyssey sees it as one sub, but in reality there are four - thus I don't want to limit LPF. What to do?

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile  4 месяца назад +1

You can "force small front speakers", sub lpf will be irrelevant without Large speakers and LFE + Main mode.

Hello OCA, once again thank you for this new version of your script which is wonderful. I have 2 questions:
    1) in older versions the script asked for the distance from the center speaker, since v2 I believe, this is no longer the case but I've gotten into the habit of changing it manually, line 8768: dist = 2.75; is it a good thing to put my value or should I leave 2.75?
    2) I have a denon 4700h so no “Bass extraction lpf” option;
The result of the script below:
18:28:02 [IMPORTANT!] Final crossover frequencies (will be set automatically by A1 Evo):
    18:28:02 [INFORMATION] Speaker C: 40Hz
18:28:02 [INFORMATION] Speaker FL: 'Large / Full range'
18:28:02 [INFORMATION] Speaker FR: 'Large / Full range'
    18:28:02 [INFORMATION] Speaker SLA: 80Hz
    18:28:02 [INFORMATION] Speaker SRA: 80Hz
18:28:02 [IMPORTANT!] The settings below should be manually applied in the receiver's set up menu:
18:28:02 [WARNING!] In older receivers, 'bass extraction lpf' can be set by the crossover frequency of the 'Large' speaker pair in 'LFE + Main' mode!
I'd like to be sure I understand what I'm supposed to do, because I find it strange to change the crossover that's automatically calculated by your script. But maybe it's not possible for you to make a fully automated script because there are too many different AVR models. I did change the subwoofer mode to 'LFE + Main'. Should I change the crossover set automatically by your script? For me it's 90hz, and if so, should I just do it on the front speakers?

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile  4 месяца назад +1

That's not a crossover setting although in your AVR it's changed from there. WWhen fronts are set to Large and subwoofer mode is set to LFE+Main, front speaker crossover setting is in fact subwoofer lowpass filter setting so you should do that there.
Center speaker is randomly chosen as 2.75 when it's not in the original calibration file. It has no importance, time differences between speakers are what the AVR checks but if you wanna see them accurate then edit the original calibration in the Editor, change centre speaker distance by 1 cm and save. Then the correct settings will show up in Evo.

Can we as a community appreciate the work and process created by OCA. I just wish to make his work clear, follow his instructions, don't think about other optimization processes you have done before. Do not attempt to combine optimization processes. We only have one job, the A1 EVO method.
After we run thru his process, perhaps share buggy issues, then you can go ahead and tinker to your hearts desire.
If hobbyists here start branching methods, OCA will be inundated with help requests and at times irrelevant issues.
Let;s stay on point, if it works for you, great. Send him his KUDOS or donations.
If it doesn't, report findings, and see if there will be an update.
I love the tinkering, so I enjoy the whole process, and if not, I reapply my old settings.

Thanks for all you have done! What a great job🎉
    I have 2 question:
    1. Is it possible to set different end frequency for each channel by modifying some code in the script?
    2. Can I use audyssey web editor to modify the results of some channel?
I have this question because I don't like the tone of a pair of my speakers. I'm thinking of adding some extra EQ for it. Full-range audyssey calibration fix this in some degree. However, I also know this may ruin the sound of other channels. Two possible solutions are in my mind: only apply full-range calibration to this channel, or add extra filters for it.
Do you have any advice? I can read and modify the script by myself if needed. It will be good to have some clue before diving into It.😃

Thanks again for all your work! Question / thoughts on the DEQ compensation.
My understanding is that you decided on a way to "correct for" DEQ that makes DEQ inactive at -30 dB (AVR volume). However, I wonder:
Did you then also incorporate additional equal-loudness contour compensation to accomodate for the fact that you are already below reference level at -30 dB? If not, I would personally have liked a compensation that just corrects for the surround/height boost that Audyssey normally does so that DEQ works just as it normally would (being inactive when the AVR volume is set to 0 dB).
On that note, the levels for surrounds and heights are the same in the two .ady files, so how do you compensate for the surround/height boost that Audyssey normally does with DEQ on?
And finally, it there a good way to remove the surround/height boost from the non-DEQ .ady file that A1 EVO produces if I'd like to have DEQ work as it normally would but without the surround/height boost?
    Thanks in advance!

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile  6 месяцев назад +3

      Thanks for the gesture!
Audyssey sweeps during calibration are generated at 75dB, then Evo optimizes everything for that level to your desired target curve settings at 75dB. That means, at that level no equal loudness compensation should be added or subtracted form the system. deq optimized ady file is doing just that, negating everything DEQ does normally at 75dB to null including the surround and height boosts. You should be getting identical sound curves with both ady files at 75dB (-30 volume level). Now, above this volume, bass and treble will be dimmed up to 0 volume level by DEQ and below this level they will be boosted which is much closer to ideal equal loudness compensation than normal DEQ would do as nobody really listens to their system at 0dB reference. Having said that, the level DEQ is negated may need some optimization based on user feed back as also no body really listenes at -30dB either. This will be an update in the future I guess once people get familiar with their new sound. I also coudln't measure since I don't have them nor could find from anyone measurements of what DEQ does to front wide and back and front dolby speakers and used same settings for them as the height speakers which will need user feedback to finalize.

@@ocaudiophile Thank you. Is 75 dB really the reference level that movies are mixed at though (and hence, the level at which the target curve is applicable at)? From my understanding (after having talked to Matthew Poes about this), it is actually higher. He said kids/family movies are mixed at 82 dB, while TV shows are mixed at 75 dB. I'm not sure what "regular" movies are mixed at, but my guess would be 85 dB based on the former?
According to Matthew, "the correct way to calibrate speaker levels follows SMPTE standards. It’s -20dBFS equals 85dBC slow at each speaker. Bass should actually read at 90.5dBC. That last one I only recently learned myself. The bass channel should be 10dB higher on a 1/3 octave RTA per band as compared to a screen channel. But the total energy for the bass channel C weighted is only about 5dB more. Not 10." (see comment section in this video: ruclips.net/video/nerMtTCgkDM/видео.htmlsi=-aLOxEyVpuT4gcCJ).
Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but If we were to use the same target curve as Hollywood, it would only be correct at the levels cited above. If we go down to 75 dB, we would have to apply an equal loudness compensation on top of the target curve, or?

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile  6 месяцев назад +2

Thanks for the link. He's on the same team with me as per the bass boosts people desire ;) What is not being said is that Audyssey has got the Dynamic EQ no effect level wrong by 20dB at the time. They adjusted DEQ based on 105dB reference level. As you have correctly stated studios adjust reference level to 85dB (with highest peaks allowed to go up to 105dB). Evo 1 is attempting to adjust for this and I am aware the no effect level might need to be lifted to 85dB instead of 75dB but I wanted to start this way as it was more convenient for calculations. As I said, depending on user feed back, I will adjust it in the future versions. It's quite easy to do, I already have preout DEQ measurements for 85dB.

First connect one of the AVR sub outputs to MiniDSP2x4HD (IN1 or IN2), Set the GAIN on each sub to 12 o'clock, GAIN match each sub by putting your Microphone the same distance from the center of each sub, use REW to generate a signal and MiniDSP2x4HD to raise or lower the GAIN. To determine the best location for each of the subs place
a sub at the MLP and using REW generate a signal and move the microphone around the room. That's how I did it.

Thank you for your contribution. You should leave that lpf (LPF for LFE setting) at 120Hz unless Evo warned you that your subs are not suitable for small satellites (then you should set that at 250Hz). 110Hz subwoofer lpf is a different setting. It's called "bass extraction lpf" in the new models, in older models it's the front speaker crossover setting after you set sub mode to LFE + Main and set fronts to large.

A1 Evo v2.1 is released today (22 Jun 2024). It’s been tested to work with REW Beta 33 - 35
    List of changes/updates:
    • Fixed: Speaker measurements with large volume deviations produced by a buggy
Editor app version were not being compensated correctly for some subwoofer
    measurements.
    • Fixed: Inverted polarity target tracking errors showed incorrect figures.
    • Crossover frequency determination AI has been polished. It’s not going to take as
long now as Evo will not iterate through all possible frequencies. Also, less false
“invert polarity of this speaker” flags expected.
    • A warning has been added for subwoofers not suitable by design (120Hz LPF) for
small satellite speakers which need crossover frequencies above 120Hz.
    • Added an error log when distances between speakers/subwoofers are by default
longer than the “6m” hardware limit as there’s no way to time align such set ups. Feel
free to raise your concerns to Sound United if your room is really that large
    • Default Tukey 0.25 windowing has been replaced with Gaussian IR windowing for
    better ultra-low frequency accuracy.
    • Brute-force alignment search is now shown in the log, good luck with the new log
    lengths.
    • Minor UI adjustments

    A1 Evo v3x released just now (13 July 2024 21:45 CET)
Edit: silent update @ 08:52 CET on 14 Jul 2024 fixing falsely prompted "limited lpf" with 2 sub standard bass systems.
    Compatibility:
    • Requires REW Beta version 43 or above for best results (a bug with persistent Subwoofer EQ
target type that could cause minor variations in sub alignment has been fixed in that version).
    Updates:
    1. Microphone calibration file correction to imported measurements for certain receivers:
o Models with Cirrus Logic DSP chips displayed incorrect high frequency responses in
    REW.
    2. Extended crossover frequency range analysis:
o Large speakers will now be analyzed for up to a 90Hz crossover frequency during
    optimization.
    3. Subwoofer lowpass filter frequency:
o Bass extraction LPF setting is limited to 80-90Hz if there is just 1 subwoofer or 3
    subwoofers to avoid bass localization.
    4. New customization parameters:
o Following customization parameters can be selected directly from the optimization
    screen:
    ▪ forceSmall (default value: 'false') - If 'true', front speakers will NOT be set to
    'Large / Full range',
    ▪ forceCentre (default value: 'false') - If 'true', front speakers will be set to
'Large'. 'Subwoofer Mode' in the AVR will need to be set to 'LFE', and
subwoofer(s) will be time-aligned to the 'Centre' speaker,
    ▪ forceLarge (default value: 'false') - If 'true', front speakers will NOT be set to
    'Small'.
    ▪ noInversion (default value: 'false') - If 'true', avoids subwoofer polarity
inversion. This may limit alignment options and could negatively impact

A bug in REW Beta is causing slightly off SW time alignments. The complete fix will be coming in the next REW Beta (Beta 43). In the mean time, you can change default EQ target type in REW from "Subwoofer" to "None" before importing measurements and running Evo. I didn't want to keep you waiting any longer and waste the weekend. REW Beta 43 will hopefully be released tomorrow.

A1 Evo Maestro MJ has just been released (08/08/2024 14:45 Central European time)!
*Updated with several minor bug fixes at Aug 12, 2024 17:15 CET!
    Release Notes
o Requires REW Beta 48 or above.
o Doubled up search combinations for directional bass to standard bass conversions refining overall bass response for multiple sub setups significantly,
o Further improved time alignment process for speakers and subs,
o Available delay range for subwoofer is now always a single positive value,
o ‘maxMicDistance’ setting and related checks for it were removed,
o Necessary delay required for best alignment will be prompted in the log even when it’s not within Audyssey limits (hence the need for REW Beta 48 or above),
o Decreased default volume levels for surrounds and heights in the Dynamic EQ calibration,
o Added Denon X4800 and X6800 to receiver list where no bass boost will be added with anti-reference curve however this list is not yet conclusive,
o Added automatic date and time stamping on saved calibration files. Save dialogue box should now show up with all browsers where you can further customize the files including the save location,
o Added fully customizable “per” speaker crossover frequency search range settings for advanced users. Changes can only be done inside the script and you will find usage instructions there.
o Default target curve has been updated (Target Curve MJ). You can find the previous Evo3 target curve in the “Popular target curves” folder in the RUclips video download link,
o Various user interface improvements and bug fixes.
Don't forget to check the actual release log in the download folder for further details.
PS: Maestro MJ is the most accurate version to date with fewer bugs and more app/measurement anti-bug functions than ever before. Therefore, it is expected to yield the best results under normal circumstances. Even if you are happy with your current calibration, you are advised to give it a try!

A1 Evo v2.3 (release date: 24 Jun 2024). This version has been tested to work with REW Beta versions 33 to 36.
    Updates and Changes:
    1. New Dynamic EQ compensation curves:
o DEQ calibration file now matches target at 90dB (-15dB relative volume scale) replacing 75dB in previous versions,
o This will result in more emphasis on bass and treble at lower volumes,
o Will resolve majority of "Speaker could not be aligned for auto-leveling compensation" errors,
    2. Added user-definable 'maximum crossover frequency’ variable:
o Users can now set both minimum and maximum crossover frequencies for Evo's optimization search,
o Located just below the frequency range custom variable at line 225 in the script (minimumXO & maximumXO) - script defaults are 40Hz and 150Hz,
    3. Bug fix:
o Corrected an issue that skipped the last speaker's distance when calculating distance limits,
o Only affected calibrations where the last speaker in REW was also the nearest or farthest speaker,
    4. Updated REW Beta download links for Beta 36,
    5. Added a maxMicDistance variable (default 1m) and you will get a warning if a measurement needs to be moved by more than that amount to match the others despite Evo’s various attempts. Unless you really measured at positions more than 1m apart from each other, this warning message points to errors with some of your measurements. Please note that it’s now safe to say Evo is nearly bug free, however, odd results may still be produced. These are “almost” always related to such broken measurement data. Take utmost care while taking measurements. Keep mic positions close (the distance between your ears is a good choice for consistent measurements) and don’t hesitate to repeat the Audyssey calibration process if you must.
    6. Various minor UI improvements.
Download link in the video description as usual!
    Enjoy!

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile  6 месяцев назад +11

I can add that but what's the point of optimization if everyone uses their favorite crossover points. It will not sound as good at 80hz as it does at 120hz according to calculations.

    • @chandan6119
      @chandan6119 6 месяцев назад

@@ocaudiophile ya, i get it. i believe the crossover frequency, mostly is calculated based on the impulse response, right? but i think it neglects the dips in frequency response(i have large dips below 80hz) and also the main issue of bass localization above 80hz-90hz.
however, i can adjust the crossover frequency in the avr afterwards, but it will mess(little) up the eq applied by rew . so if i have the option of max crossover(in my case i will set at 80hz max) ,then the rew will eq the response perfectly for 80hz crossover.
it may be helpful for advanced tinkerers, who constantly measure their systems .
other than that i really like everything it is doing

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile  6 месяцев назад +6

It minimizes root mean square of deviations from the target curve in the bass region for every frequency and picks the best. If you could just listen the results first maybe you would question your XO choices based on graph picking. Btw, many of you are looking at all the wrong graphs. Dip elimination is not even a real thing in DRC, dips are mostly inauduble and very local.

    • @navidmahmood876
      @navidmahmood876 6 месяцев назад

I might be wrong but I think the calculated sub delay is being applied in the reverse order. The "subMoves" is being added - for positive delay, it increases distance but AVR sees it as needing to reduce delay.

@@ocaudiophile If you want to take a look, I've uploaded my newly re-measured Audyssey file as well as EVO'lved sound file here (yes, I am using the dEQ version, because my listening volumes are always of "living room" level): drive.google.com/drive/folders/1x7Xp5CL42fgjc0uqOlAgXPjNXhR9ySFT?usp=sharing
      - I had to "Avoid sub polarity inversion", although running Evo with default settings would want me to flip the phase (don't have a knob, only dial)
      - After Evo, I had to still drop surrounds by -1,5 dB and raise center by +2 dB
      - Lower bass frequencies (around 90-120 Hz, ish) sound a little bit boomy and muffled at times, especially when listening to semi-deep male voice (speaking)
Question 1: Before Evo, I introduced a significant and gradual boost below ~50 Hz for subwoofer by Audyssey Editor sub curve. How would I reproduce this with Evo?
Question 2: With the "avoid sub polarity inversion" checked, which is mandatory for my environment, Evo always assigns fronts as Large, which is fine, but also wants me to set sub mode to LFE+Main and bass extraction to 120 Hz. How can I cap this to, for example 80 Hz, because my sub starts booming around 100 Hz and would want it to produce mainly sub-bass?

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile  Месяц назад +1

      1. You can use different more bass heavy target curves or increase your sub trim level after optimization.
      2. In a text editor find that line "for (let i = 1; i < (freqLength - monoSub); i++) {" in the script, should be around line 2060. Replace it with this "for (let i = 1; i < 4; i++) {"

    • @timbe667
      @timbe667 Месяц назад +1

@@ocaudiophile Thanks, I'll give the alternative curves a go if I find a suitable one. Increasing sub trim level is not an option, because it also increases the frequencies I don't want to be that loud (>~80Hz). I would want only +3...+5 dB increase from ~50Hz to 30Hz and actually have the ~80-120Hz range lower than EVO'lved produces. Anyway, I will play with the alternative curves a little bit, but boy would it be nice to be able to edit the target curve graphically by myself! =)

Is it possible to somehow modify the REW target curve by hand and/or modify channel specific curves after finalized EVO script? I know what I want to do, but I don't know how or with what tool to do it. =)

    drive.google.com/file/d/1uvgGQ3ubN2DWb4zBxA39N_OMnIo2l7Xj/view?usp=sharing
Live chat has disappeared after video ended so I couldn't answer some questions> Here are the answers:
A1 Evo volume aligns your system to the Audyssey's intended measurement level of 75dB. You may see boosted or dimmed speaker volumes depending on your actual measured levels. This was necessary to be able to apply Dynamic EQ correctly.
DEQ ady will sound correct only with DEQ 0dB and will be identical to the normal ady file only at 75dB (-30 in the AVR scale). At lower volumes DEQ will increase bass and treble levels.
The first ady file produced will sound right at 75dB and will keep target curve shape at all volume levels.
If subwoofer distance is selected 0m (will happen to some of you), all other speakers will be moved forward and will not show correct distances. This is perfectly normal and speaker timing precision will be preserved.

No EQ for a sub is normal if its peaks are still below the taget level and the new target has really high bass slope. A1 Evo v3 has been released (07 Jul 2024).
    Release notes:
    Compatibility:
    - Tested with REW Beta versions 33 to 42.
    Key Updates:
    1. **Enhanced Support for Large/Full Range Front Speakers**:
    - Detects full-range front speakers and calculates "bass extraction LPF" for the subwoofer in 'LFE + main' mode.
    - Evaluates LFE mode (no subwoofer with large front speakers) and the traditional crossover with subwoofer for small front speakers to find the best configuration.
    - Aligns subwoofer to the center speaker for improved speech clarity when front mains are set to LFE.
    2. **Improved Crossover Frequency Algorithm**:
    - Considers the individual bass roll-off frequency of each speaker, optimizing for dip removal from speaker responses.
    - Frequency mapping customization removed due to these enhancements.
    3. **Performance Enhancements**:
    - Minor improvements to target tracking and excess phase minimization.
    - Reduced script run time.
    4. **Second Round of Filtering**:
    - Added after subwoofer alignment for significantly improved overall speaker responses.
    5. **Central Mic Position Weighting**:
    - Increased importance given to central mic position speaker responses.
    6. **Directional Bass Conversion Script**:
    - Complimentary script to convert standard bass to directional bass for users with older receivers and two subwoofers.
    - This script prepares calibration files before feeding them to Evo and is linked only in the RUclips video (you may need to watch!).
    7. **Speaker Volume Matching**:
    - Volumes matched to custom target curves from the end of frequency correction up to 20kHz.
    8. **User Interface Enhancements**:
    - Improvements and additions related to 'LFE + Main' mode and 'LPF for LFE' setting recommendations for specific subwoofers.
    Overall:
    - A1 Evo v3 is redesigned for the ultimate sound experience with your setup, offering smarter and more efficient performance.
Download link in the video description as always.
I hope you enjoy the enhanced audio experience!

Thanks. Does it support MiniDSP 2x4 HD for bass management? I currently have the Denon X4700H + MiniDSP 2x4 HD and 4 subs. The 4 subs are fed from the MiniDSP and were calibrated using MSO then introduced as a single sub to the X4700H. I finally used the A1 script for calibration with the Olive target curve.
I wonder if the A1 could natively support such configuration and create filters for both the Denon AVR and the MiniDSP for better results?

    Great job, really helpful!
    Two comments/questions though:
    a) with manual matching the sub to the speakars (40Hz) I had best results to limit the sub to 80Hz. Currently with A1 I disabled the low pass filter and the sub DB4S goes to 250Hz or so. The Denon X3800 can set down to 80Hz. It looks like A1 tries only down to 90Hz. By intention? Would you recommend to set the sub filter to 80Hz or let A1do the job?
    b) I had a Arcam and the delay/distance could be changed to 20m and more than 30ms. Now, the Denon offers something like 16ms but less considering the set sub distance. I've seen that a lot of options have been rejected due to "alignment not possible within delay limits!" => seems to be a limitation Denon set too narrow. I'd call it a design fault. Seems nobody is addressing it to Denon/Marantz R&D

With my new Denon X3800 it is not possible to properly align the subs for impulse response. Mainly because of DSP things going on inside the SUBs most users need more than just the real distance. Max. 16ms the Denon can do is too less.
Neiter Audyssey, A1 EVO nor Dirac work as good as they could because of the limitation.
I don't think that Denon is aware of the consequence of the limitation. I also doubt that an update may solve it, because larger delays require more internal memory. My old Arcam AVR550 could do more than 30ms delay and did the matching subs mains much better....

💥 Thanks! The result even with 1.3 is great so far. The only problem I have is that Audessey calibration had my subwoofer at 0db, and now with A1 Evo it's at +12db (which might even be clipped), and the rest of my channels closer to 0, from minus before)
Guess I need to pump up that Sub volume or move it, and do new measurements.

      @@ocaudiophile Thanks for the quick response, no errors, the log said;
      > 21:10:26 [INFORMATION] Aligning subwoofer volume to 75dB between 30Hz - 80Hz (Dolby standard)...
      > 21:10:27 [INFORMATION] Calculated subwoofer volume adjustment requirement with the minimum tracking error (11.47%): 12dB
so seems to be within limit then.
would I run into any clipping issues, especially if I would also play with additional sub channel boosting? (Denon X3800H).
According to general advise, the sub should be in the minus region, +12 seems way out there :)

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile  6 месяцев назад

Yes that's fine, you just had your sub volume a bit too low but you were still within limits so no need to repeat Audyssey measurements.
      - sub volume has negliable benefit to save receiver power.

@@ocaudiophilethanks. The interesting thing is that they usually recommend 30% vol on the sub, while it’s set closer to 50%. But the sub is not in a corner, instead it’s on the right (long) wall (about 35% from front), maybe 8cm from the wall.
So far this is a much better position than front mid-left without big nulls at my mlp, but probably also much less room gain.

    2.3 goes one step further!
It's impressive that things keep getting a little better, even though you thought the end of the sonic line had been reached.
Of course they are not worlds that change. But in this version I hear e.g. Congas even clearer, the bassline even more differentiated, drums even more to the point, strings and brass even better distributed in the room.
The XOs were also set more coherently. 60,60,60 L, R, C And now the DEQ- Ady brings back at low volume something.
Increased bass and crisper highs, but without borderline "thickening", which was previously the norm when using DEQ.
Really top and a recommendation from me. For me(!) the best and most rounded version so far.
Even if you are tired of the daily recalculation and listen to it:
    The effort is worth it!
I used the script as is without any changes. No warnings anyway.

I have 3 large DIY sealed subs capable of extending down to 10hz without damage, however 'natural roll off' starts at 35hz. Will A1 Evo allow me to extend the low end to 10hz?
Also: If I run Evo in directional bass mode, is it basically measuring all subs and applying EQ separately, then turning the directional feature off?

    • @ocaudiophile
      @ocaudiophile  6 месяцев назад +2

It should manage to bring 10Hz at 75dB if not on the tilkted target. You can try playing with the subOffset variable at line 225 to adjust it. In the next update, this variable will be removed and it will be done automatically.
It time aligns all subs, EQ's the aligned sum and converts it to standard bass mode.

Thankyou so much. I am really gratefull for your work. The quality improvement is astonishing, its saved me so much time and the results are stunning. However, I do have a couple of questions.
    1) My subs don't have phase switches, just dials, so I assume 180 degress is the equivalent of inverted?
    2) I used the mj curve and find that vocals sound a little lacking. They have more clarity than before but male voices sound a little thin and lacking impact (I think "strident" is the word) , whilst female voices sound a little hollow (almost like I'm listening through a metal tube), almost like they are veging on the edge of sibilence. My centre speaker is a PMC TBC (similar to my TB2+ main L&R). A1 evo crossed the mains at 60, but the centre at 90 (my own sweeps kind of confirmed this was optimal from a phase perspective). Considering this, should I try a different curve?, if so could you suggest some to try?

      Thank you for the gesture!
      1. Yes 0-180 deg phase invert switch does the same thing, if it's an adjustable polarity knob though, that should not be used.
      2. Try force MLP option.
