About halfway through, and my favorite line so far has been, “thou shalt get sidetracked by bullshit every damn time.”
I immediately thought of some boring side quests 🙃

Anyone who’s played the game knows this alllll too well.

Yeah its awesome. Reminds me of Viggo signing up for Lord of the Rings because his son told him to take the role of Aragon.
@@zzygyy Difference is LOTR is a masterpiece while this show is just woke, badly written trash.
@TCELL24 how is it woke? Did you even watch it? It's more anti-woke. The non-binary character is a coward and a liar. Walton is basically the Man in Black from westworld. Absolute anti hero.
@@TCELL24 it's also evident that you haven't watched the show or did so with a massive bias, would love to hear though what you found "woke" about the show? With something like Star Trek Discovery you'd get no argument from me but this is nothing like that. If anything it took me by surprise that there wasn't a single character that is LBQT in the entire season.
@@TCELL24 if you hate this TV show because it's "WOKE" and love the game series, you're an idiot.
First of all, Tim, the creator of the classic Fallout, is gay.
Secondly, LGBTQ people have been portrayed in games from the original to today as a matter of course.
It's understandable that you hate the show because it's Woke. That's your business, but if you hate the TV show because of that and you love the game series, you're the kind of person who only looked the games from the wiki.
Actually, I don't think you've even looked at the wiki.
Of course I don't like the woke winds of PC and forced creativity, which is why I like the series for its real diversity.
Sure, I don't think a modern game could implement a playthrough where you join a faction of Caesar's legion to see the ending, but they did it.
Well, in that case… Walton Goggins needs an Emmy, because wow is he an excellent actor.

Walton is one of those guys who you see and you recognize but is rarely a main character. I am so glad he gets to be front and center showing off what he can do.

Goggins is a bad hombre, level headed, respects the craft, and everytime I see him on screen I’m blown away.
He just oozes charisma. His character's story in this is infatuating and he just pulls off 200 years old like no one else could
"I dont give a fuck about those ducks!"
"There needed to be someone at the table who was judging these stories without the responsibility of holding up the mantle for the players themselves."
As much as I want to expose everyone to this wonderful game series, I really respect this reason for not playing.
yo as a film fan and a video game fan, this was the perspective needed. imagine him not in this series for a second... would it be good? lol
Yes it was beautifully said.
That was such a smart choice. Because sometimes gamers will *think* they want certain story beats and easter eggs, but it doesn't land as well on the big screen as it does in the game. Making sure it all flowed well was key to why this series is as good as it is.
@@17thknightI also respect the decision not to include "everything" in the games. "do a few things well instead of doing everything terribly" I think the halo show could.learn from that. In fact, the Halo series could learn a lot from Fallout.
SO far, the ghoul is the best character. He has the most range of emotions both rage and regret, he can have remembrance and yet finality.
To be fair to the rest of the cast Goggins has been at this for a really long time now and has a bunch of stellar roles under his belt. He's got a lot more experience. I thought his co-leads did a great job.
@ZiddersRooFurry They did. But let's be honest here, he's not carrying the show, he doesn't have to, but he is elevating it by a large amount. He's killing it. He's easily the most interesting character. A lot of it has to do with the background of the character, but most of it has to do with work that Walton is putting in. Easily some of the best of his career, and his best is better than most.
@@menghao737 Oh I agree. I just love how he plays up the stereotypes at first and slowly layers on the nuance.
Interesting take from two actors. Ella played the games beforehand so she could respect the source material, which made the show a hit among the fans. Walter opted to not play the games so as to ensure the character makes sense even without being versed in the world, which made the show a hit among casual viewers.
The Seth Green looking brother who keeps looking like he smells bullshit is also a great character
"Morality as a privilege"
Damn, that summary hit hard. These were definitely the right writers for the job.
I agree. 'Morality as a privilige' summs up not only the fallout universe but also the depths of human morality, as we know it, when you take away laws, order and progress.
A famous politician in my country once said:"Civility is just a very thin blanket that very easily crumbles."
So yeah, they got the point straight, imo.
I was very impressed with her description and it's interesting how they tied it to COVID. She seemed to be very on point.
@@RHShavi A corollary could be "privilege also shapes its own morality".
If only morality and privilege went hand in hand our world would be a significantly better place. Instead those with privilege seem to have the least morals.

Walton is now up there with Viggo for playing a character their son loves. Plus Walton is THE GOAT. He needs an EMMY for Fallout.
Raul Julia, Street Fighter. He accepted the role of Bison because his children are huge fans of the video game series.
Most actor who are know for more adult/teen aimed movies, will do a one or two G/PG rated movie o their kid can see something they did. It's why Adam Sandler ha like 10 years of kid humour movies, because he wanted his kid to see them.

I like the fact that Walton Goggins didn't play the the game, It gives him a chance to approached his performance at a different angle and not the influenced by it but still be grounded to it.
Plus he was thinking about how it would hit for people that didn't play the game. This was a smart move. Risky, but smart.
The fact that he is the most fallout-iest main character in the tv series is ironic.
I'm fine with actors not having experience with an IP, but when the writers and Directors don't it's an issue. I feel like most video game adaptations fail for that reason. Directors try to re-imagine the IP in their own vision due to ego, and they mostly all fail.
@@ZeroShaneBob Agreed. And I think Walton said something along those lines about how he could just trust the writers, directors, and crew to point him in the right direction because of how passionate they were about this. It's one of those things where I appreciate the fact that he was honest that he hadn't played the game. Not everyone knows everything, and it's a very human thing to rely on the expertise of others to work towards a greater goal.
I think you mean...a greater ghoul 😉
I think it makes the character even better. No knowledge of any ghoul stereotypes. No previous self aligned conceptions. He's a damn good actor and he really shines in this role.
What's with the music in this video? It's driving me crazy.
No matter what the quality of the show, this man immediately elevated it just being involved.
This is the first time I have heard someone in a videogame adaptation saying they didn't play the games intentionally, and it actually made sense why they didn't. He offered the perspective of someone who was new to the story, so it would make sense even for people that don't know the games, but unlike the writers and producers of shows like The Witcher and Halo, it's not because he felt he was above the source material, he just wanted to offer a point of view that would help the final product be better, and it seems to have worked, because the show greatly respects what Fallout is, but is able to stand on it's own.
Goggins is a fucking amazing actor.
He may not know video games, but the man knows Westerns. That is where he excels above & beyond other actors.
The show is perfect.
You're repeating lies about Witcher and Halo. The producers don't feel they are "above" the source material. Stuff needs to be adapted to new mediums. I think having Master Chief take off his helmet (let alone have it off a LOT) was a hugely boneheaded mistake by the Halo folks. But I don't whine about it and pretend I can read minds of people I disagree with-because I'm not a child.
@@hawkname1234 No they do feel above it and wanted to change it to what they wanted and going on record saying they are above it and wanted to make the masterpieces of others their own. That is why Henry left the Witcher, he wanted loyalty to the books and they wanted him to just shut up.

Honestly, nothing needs to change. They just have to keep the same mentality for Season 2, which they'll undoubtedly get. Happy crew, happy actors, that's all this show needs to thrive.
Idk, personally I couldn't get into it. Feels too clean and fake to convince me it's a post apocalyptic world. The core story is compelling, but the execution of it makes it so boring to me. In the few episodes I watched it feels like the story isn't really going anywhere. I'd rather they had just made a movie out of it with a bigger budget.
@@RealEllenDeGeneres well, to be fair the Fallout games were never about a realistic, gritty post apocalypse, but a cynical/satirical, over-the-top take on the post-war "American dream" culture (which by the way I wish they explored more), but all things considered I felt like the spirit of the world and the series is still present there. The show has received a massive tax credit to move to California from filming in NY which could still mean season 2 mostly appears as the setting for season 2. Inserting New Vegas canon in that doesn't fit with fan expectations could be a serious mis-step. Nothing is confirmed yet other than New Vegas will make an appearance in season 2.
@@GaryTurbo Who announced it officially? The one only thing I read was California has offered the show a tax credit to move to filming in California, but Amazon hasn't yet confirmed season 2 that I could find.
He's quickly become one of my favorite versatile actors.
One of my favorite actors ever. He’s amazing in everything he’s in.
Walton Goggins is a treasure
My first time being introduced to Walton was on The Shield. I was young. A teen when that show was airing. I rewatched it in it's entirety years later and have huge appreciation for him and every other actor on that show. He really is a talented dude.
He absolutely slayed this role. My favorite character so far.
One of my favorite actors, highly underrated imo
The ghoul reminded me a lot of his character in Hateful Eight
They’re not alike at all lol.
It’s closer to his role in Django if anything
@@funkrobot9762 I dont agree
@@GlassesAndCoffeeMugs hell yeah
It’s probably the delivery of some of his lines, he has that very specific southern drawl.
Watched by one breath. With my all hearth I wish season 2
oh its happening.
It's the retro-futuristic "Atomic Era" 50's vibe------but in a TRULY Atomic era-----that does it for me 🥰. Goggins is such a seasoned talented actor, he makes easy work of believing his character has lived for 200+ years
He's so good in this role. I love the casting they did.
Just binged the season, he's spectacular in this.
The woman at @5:09 is incredibly insightful and smart. When you come across a show that is written well and then see an interview with the writers, it all starts to make sense.
This man is an amazing actor. Prison Break, Justified and now Fallout. He's been amazing in all of them.
Walton Goggins has been one of my favorite actors since I saw him as Boyd Crowder in Justified. He kills it as Ghoul/Cooper Howard. I can't wait to see Cooper and Lucy's dynamic in season 2.
Walton was incredible on Justified, Sons of Anarchy, Vice Principles and literally everything I've seen him in. He was by far my favorite part of the Fallout series.
Dude, you left out The Shield. Tell me you've seen The Shield. It took me a long time to call him Goggins instead of Shane.
@@johnsimth6587I have actually never seen The Shield and apparently I need to.
@@deaconx for sure basically gets better each season
@@deaconx Oh... Oh. Oh man. Oh. Ok. Remember, he's a great actor so your reactions will be correct.
The Shield is an intense drama about corrupt cops and it gets gnarly, I wont say anything else other than Goggins is absolutely amazing in his role.
@@johnsimth6587 The Shield is what I recognized him first from when i saw the fallout trailer. An incredible show, and I love how the actions of the pilot episode somehow steer the course of the next 7 (?) seasons, right up through the finale. Absolutely masterful show and Goggins killed it as Shane, who was a hard character to get right. You feel like you should hate him but Goggins is able to show you why he does the terrible things he does later on.
his skills came shining through way back in his career playing Shane on "The Shield" absolutely fenominal.
Never played the game. Never watched cutscenes of the game. But i just want to say, Fallout is so nice to watch. I love every second of it. Also the vault mysteries.
If you are going to ever play, New Vegas is the place to start. Best game in the series.
New Vegas has a great story but it's a little clunky and assumes you've played games in the series before. Your best bet is to start with Fallout 3 since it's the first game in the series after Bethesda bought it.
They're very mysterious and brutal
New Vegas does such a good job encapsulating what it wants to tell you that you do not need to have played the game that came before to get it. It just makes it more fun if you have to know how deep the lore goes, but it's not necessary to enjoy it at all.
whenever you stumble upon a vault in one of the games, you know you're about to learn some dark shit.
His performance and story makes me want the next fallout to have the option to be a ghoul
Love him so much. He become my favorite character as soon he saved the dog.
This guy is a fucking amazing actor. I fell in love with him in Vice Principals. And he absolutely kills it in anything he is in.
Walter is a very solid and well rounded actor. I have never seen a bad performance from him ever he always stands out as an actor who can commit to a role whole heartedly. As a fan of the game i really enjoyed the series well done to everyone involved.
*The Ghoul is my favorite character of all times. Walton did a wonderful job with both of his characters (the human and the ghoul) in Fallout.*
He the main reason why i found the pre-war section very interesting. Low key was expecting the pre war story to be boring and be a story exposition BUT seeing his pre war self being a good man and how vaults-tec are pure assholes made me want me to know more about the pre war
i remember watching Walton Goggins play Shane in the sheild series, for such a low budget show he was an awesome actor its great to see Walton Goggins come so far and progress his carreer. even to today he seems so humble and like the kind of person that you could meet in public and have a conversation with. its like he hasnt let hollywood get to his head and i give him credit for that
The character of "The Ghoul" is the essence of Fallout. Randall Clark, Joshua Graham, Desert Rangers. The bad mfer that can survive. Hard. Principled. Killer. So for a guy who didn't play the game, he still got it. But that type of person, is a natural force. And real people like that exist. Billy Waugh, Bob Howard ect.
The Ghoul is the "fuck you that's mine" Evil PC to the Going for the Good Enging Lucy and 4 INT 8 END 7 LUK Maximus that nearly party wipes and reloads several times.
@@BrandanLee Seriously I think someone in the writers room wrote up stats and then built on from that. You have nerdy kid who just wanted to play because they saw the dudes in suits of armor(maximus), you got the nerdy RP geek who wants to do the story (lucy) and you have the 100th playthrough F them all evil character in the ghoul.
Loot guy vs rp guy vs murder hobo. You're right on the money his int is low and END/LCK have to be the top. He is always taking a beat and being fine and then literally falling into places of power, he didn't win his armor he didn't win his position of power at the end haha yeah he's all luck.
Ghouls got a lot of points in Dex for sure... I wanna do their stats and perks hah.
Out of all the movie and show remakes recently, fallout did a good job on this one
I just finished the series and I have to say Walton Goggins as The Ghoul… 🔥 HE KILLED IT!!!!
Goggins is a really good Actor, and I'm glad they got this level of talent for the show. Kudos to this man, and the casting folks. Everyone over on the show team, well done.
I’ve seen Walton in things before… but his role in fallout has made me a big fan! This guys the man
He was so good in SoA, like a fine wine age has made him better.
Pure professional, with unique charisma and VOICE.
He did so good in fallout, legendary character imo
