I love that you got Starr on here, this guy does DLR sooooo well. He’s a huge fan, and a genuine guy. Saw them in Soo Michigan, a border town across the river from Sault Ontario, and man….what a great time! My bandmate and my brother Joel…..we all went and saw Steel Panther, and man what a show.!! Total respect for them!
Omg! Michael is AWESOME! A positive force in the world! This was great Jeff. Great stories. Glad he is still out there ROCKIN' it and carrying on the fun and joy of VH in his way! Thanks to you both! I'm going to check out more of their videos right now! 🤘🤘🤘
A long time ago I watched a weekly internet animated series called Strong Bad where I sometimes saw snippets of a band called Steel Panther. I thought it was a spoof until I eventually looked them up. I've been to two of their live shows since then and love the whole act. You guys really take it back to a unique time in music. Thank you for the interview.
I played a couple of shows opening for Ralph and the boys in Atomic Punks in 96 and 97 and they were fucking amazing. I had never even heard of a tribute band back then
It's easy to understand what Roth is saying if you are a creative song writer. He talks in that mind set. I always got everything he ever said. Love it.
I met MS in Australia one evening when he came out to support a band called Cherrybomb. I walked up to him and shock his hand. The terror in his eyes - I think he thought I was a cop. Man the guy has big hands!
The only person out there that can emulate Dave minus the acrobatics! Just check out the old Discover card commercial from back in the day. Soon as I heard it I knew who his influence was!
12:01 = That's how I felt when I first watched Steel Panther live in Melbourne Australia. How could a band sound better live, than on the CD - STEEL PANTHER that's how!
His story of 1st meeting Roth had me laughing. Early 2k's I lived in L.A. saw the Punks alot and Metal School (known as Steel Panther today. 1st Punks show I see Ralph peeking outta the dressing rm. Knowing who he was as a VH die hard I decide to make my way over. As I'm getting closer going thru my head is "oh God I hope he's just a regular dude and I don't get the DLR shtick". Anyhow I was not disappointed just a regular cool down to earth , very friendly guy like we see here 20+ yrs later.
Fun interview. Van Halen nerd here, too... I would have LOVED to have seen Ralph sing in Van Halen after Dave left, certainly after Sammy left. Ralph's a really good songwriter, and the evidence is all over there first several SP records, but EVH wanted Gary Cherone... 'what could have been' should be the Van Halen motto. What could have been had Roth never left the band; what could have been had Ralph replaced DLR: What could have been had Ralph replaced Sammy. We'll never know, sadly, but VH sold 80 million records worldwide and was the biggest band in North America for years with its dysfunctional core at each other's throats for much of it. What could VH have been if their personal relationships were more like Plant/Page/Bonham/JPJ and less like Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey.
First time I have encountered you 🕺 this is a great interview. Please let me tell you, as a musician- it’s very hard to pick only one. I would ask to give me your top five favorite songs, people, etc. Much more interesting for the listener and then it’s just not over in 30 seconds 🙂 Keep up the good work
I was on a 25 min limit, so I had to keep it brief. There are a bunch of episodes that are much more detailed. It just depends on the guests availability. Thanks for Watching

Steel Panther 10 years ago made me lose my girlfriend, also made me growout my Hair, getting in shape, buying leggins and other hot clothes and becoming a sleazy glamrocker that started screwing around and getting into this good old Sex drugs and Rock'n'Roll stuff, best ever happend to me. But how would he sing if he was brought into VH? David Lee Roth impression? I don’t think so, and singing as his own self, I think he would let DLR creep in, and that would be weird.
Michael Starr who’s the plastic surgeon you used they did a good job 👍👍 The more they do it though it it tends to go the opposite. Just don’t go full Madonna clown face
I moved to Phoenix in 2009 and brought my 7 year old son to see the Atomic Punks at the Marquee in Tempe. But it was a different singer and I was kinda bummed out about it. The wig the new singer was wearing was so terrible.
Starr is one of the finest male rock vocalists working today. In my opinion.
💯
I agree! He can sing anything!
@@batlevi2247wonder if he sang the hagar era vh before.
Michael Starr is the best 🥰
Always great!
"Eatin' ain't cheatin' ".....
Very important lesson I learned from this band.
Ralph is the best of the best. He deserves 100% of his success and more
What a class act and genuine, nice guy. So cool to other local musicians, too.
Jeff, top notch as usual. Very well put together and entertaining.
Thanks! Thanks for having me and thanks for watching!
Great interview! Big fan and love that he has real love for what he does!
