You are not wrong. I remember seeing Neil Zlozowers name on a lot of rock band photos and his name mentioned in credits on album covers. I feel so blessed to have lived through and witnessed the greatest rock and roll era ever.
@@pedraw same here. I’ve been fortunate enough now to call Neil one of my best friends for the last 20 years. Had many many of my photos taken by him and of course they are always the best. Some of my best times have been hanging with Neil. Amazing photographer and amazing human being.
@@pedraw I remember in the 80s "photo by Neil Zlozower" was like on every single pic in all the metal mags, Hit Parader, Cream, Circus. Its like, who is this guy? Does he have one of those Iron Man jet packs that allows hims to fly to concert to concert? Zloz released a coffeetable book back in 82 that had pics of about every major rock band at the time. He shot everybody. I dont see that book on Amazon or even a google search, but it was an incredible book.
Eddie Van Halen was and still is more than all the great things he innovated, invented, accomplished........he was a guitar phenomenon. A true blessing from above. Ed wasn't just the guitar player. He was an all around great man, husband and father. His passing left a hole in our hearts and the world. RIP EVH. Gone, but never forgotten.
When the 1984’ tour came around just about everyone from high school was there. You could just look around at the audience before the show and spot friends everywhere. I’d give anything to go back and do the 80’s all over again. I’d let people know how much I enjoyed knowing and growing up with them.
To me, Eddie Van Halen was the one innovative guitarist of the last 100 years. You've got guys that are faster and more technical. But Ed was a great rhythm player, a great song writer, and one of the 3 part harmonies of the classic Van Halen sound. And of course, his crazy solos and a pretty damn good keyboardist. So what else can you really say. Always sending fresh and never forgotten. I'm glad I lived in the VH Era and saw them live 12-13 times w/ Dave before Sammy. Thanks for all the great memories. 🤘
I ran into Ed and Valerie a few times in Malibu in the late 80’s. I still live there. I remember Ed was a kind friendly man. I owned an exotic tire shop on PCH. Last time I saw him was in 92 he purchased a set of Jeep tires and gave me a guitar which I still have.
Watching this and hearing Neil talk about the set list, I remembered when I saw VH in 04. I had 8th row seats and Eddie was on my left when they finished a song. I remember watching him looking around at the stage floor then he shrugged his shoulders and did this jump. What I found out the next day while listening to the radio was when some guy called in talking about the show he said at the moment he snatched Mike’s taped down set list while Ed was standing there. Ok, not relevant to anything Neil is talking about but I just wanted to share this story. RIP King Edward!
Mad Props to Gibson TV for this and all of their other series, and thank you for shining another spotlight on King Eddie. I miss him dearly and will remember him for as long as I live. 🤘👍❤️🙏🏻
I saw Van Halen in 1981, while I had back stage passes to feed the roadies and set up food in the Van Halen dressing room. Best concert I ever watched. Best if times.
A true word! There will never be another Eddie Van Halen! Lots of friend s love him also! He was really special and unique! A gifted person, who inspired millions of people on the entire planet! It will always be a pleasure to put on a Van Halen record! 🤘💎❤🤘

I was 12 when I first bought a VHS copy of Van Halen Live without a Net, this open the dooor to years of heavy guitar practicing trying to play like Eddie Van Halen. He made guitar playing seem so easy and fun at the same time, definitely a mind blower watching him playing guitar live
When I first heard eruption, I couldn't believe how it was even possible to play like that. I thought there was some kind of overdub guitar track when he was doing the tapping part. I was 17 and been playing guitar for about two year prior. When I finished hearing the entire album, I was so blown away, that at one point I thought about giving up the guitar. Back in the 80s, every guitar player wanted to play like Eddie including myself. He really had a huge impact not only to me, but to guitar players world wide. Long live king Eddie.
Neil was our access to this amazing band at a time when pictures, and maybe a couple videos, were all we had. My teenage self was obsessed with his pictures. I spent hours studying them. Thank you for what you captured and for all the memories, Neil!
Really love this video! I was fortunate enough to see Van Halen live eight times from 1980 through 2015. I remember sitting there during the Fair Warning tour in 81 and thinking “this is as legendary as seeing Hendrix”
His images helped solidify my love for the band. I have the raising of the flag photo he took of them for the US Fest that he sent me signed probably a decade ago. Pretty nice guy to send me that as a surprise after emailing him a few times.
Anything great is timeless. Great quote. Thanks so much for bringing back the memories. Witnessed 3 great concerts of VH. The '84 show my Dad went with me, and enjoyed as much as I did! I thought Reynolds Coliseum was gonna crumble. Everyone let loose that night! This is a great clip and I'm glad I took a minute to watch. May even look for the book. I just wish I still had that concert T
What an utterly fascinating, informative and entertaining video, of probably the single most important and influential band of my youth . First there was the Beatles, than Jimi ,than the Mighty VH that blew the wig off of a very guitar obsessed 14 year old. I loved Eddie then, and i love him now. Thank you so much Neil. You were able to experience some amazing times in the most amazing era's. And made a living while doing it . But most importantly, you created one amazing, historically important catalog of epic photos that will be around for generations, documenting a very important and Paradigm Shifting guitar player.. Eddie Van Halen. R.I.P. Ed. And thank you for it all. And Neil, im getting my hands on a copy of this tome of jaw-dropping photos. Thank you!!
Great video! Neil was as close to Van Halen as anyone and it’s great to hear his recollection of the VH glory days! Oh yeah, Zloz’s new book “Ed by Zloz” is a must have!
Thanks for your work in preserving the essence of the greatest guitar virtuoso. His playing style was so original all you could do was pick your jaw up off the floor and listen. I am glad I was able to see him play 4 times with Sammy. He has left a mark on guitar that will last forever. And friends with Les Paul. My Mom had a collection of Les Paul and Mary Ford records that came in a gold binder. I think they were 78's. I wish I had the chance to get her into Edward Van Halen. I think she would have loved it.
Growing up in suburbia Australia in the 70's and 80's we were isolated and knew very little of what was happening in the metal world. Metal magazines was all I had. I use to to see Neil credited in fine print on all VH photos and wondered who he was, how many VH shows did he see, what was his association with the band etc. After 35+ years this is the first time ive seen or heard him. Fascinating for a life long VH fan.
Another great by Gibson. The artists in several Gibson interviews, Jerry Cantrell comes to mind, tell really great stories about EVH and what a generous and selfless guy he was. Love the "no questions" style of interview. I watched a great doc on Neil a couple years ago and immediately bought two of his gorgeous books. Going to have to get this one too. What a life! Thanks Neil and thanks Gibson. And of course Eddie lives on in his music. Wolfie too.
