- Mark “Weissguy” Weiss was 13 years old when he got his first camera. With a love for rock'n'roll, becoming a professional photographer was not something that ever crossed his mind.
At the end of eighth grade, he received a crash course in developing film and as he began shooting photos for the likes of Peter Frampton, Joan Jett and Aerosmith, Mark found himself immersed in the craziest, most outlandish, decadent decades of rock.
Watch Episode 4 of Through The Lens to be transported back to the decade that rocked.

This guy got some of the best shots of all these artists. It's unbelievable. I grew up seeing his name all over. Thank you, Gibson, for making this video.

@@thedecadethatrocked9433 Seriously, I have seen your photos in magazines and album liners my whole life. Your photos helped define my growing up in the '80's and '90's. Thank you for pursuing your love of rock and photography and sharing the results with the rest of us.
Btw, I will be sure to address you properly as Weissguy in the future. 😺🤘☠️
Mark is a true photography legend and a super nice person. If you’re lucky enough to know him or have worked with him you know it! Great documentary!
Thanks Pete for the kind words! 📸--- weissguy
Wow, what a journey. Fascinating to see his progression from a kid sneaking his camera into concerts to a highly successful photographer shooting elaborate studio photos and hanging with the stars.
Yes in deed it was and still is - Once the door was open , I came in kicking - never stoped - never will 📸---weissguy
Easily one of the top three music photographers of all time. Nice video Gibson.
Give over.
Jim Marshall, Mick Rock, Annie Leibovitz, Herb Ritts, Neal Preston, Mark Seliger... I could go on.

Thanks Pete much appreciate the compliment! ---weissguy
@@thedecadethatrocked9433 Much deserved sir - thank you for all the incredible work over the years.
Listening to Mark retail stories and seeing these iconic photos from great moments which happened well before I was even alive is really gratifying. I’m a huge rock/hard rock/heavy metal enthusiast so I’ve seen a good majority of the bands he talked about live in concert over the years. Mark is a tremendously cool, down-to-earth dude who takes phenomenal photos and I’m happy to call him my friend\m/
Thanks Anthony - The Music from the 80s was a very special time for rock fans. I was fortunate enough to capture it and tag alog with very talented musicians. - weissguy 📸
@@thedecadethatrocked9433 Anytime Mark. I feel the same way.
And the photographer also he was great, what an American dream story, love it.
Don't wake me up - ha ! ---📸--- weissguy
Thanks Mark for all your beautiful work
your welcome - Keep Rockin the 80's 📸--- weissguy
Amazing how it's the thin fine threads in life that can lead you to your destiny. Dude knocked on the door, it opened, a camera was presented to him. Notice, he had to do something (knocked, mowed the grass, etc.). This is a word for someone reading this.... MOVE..... GO...... YOU CAN DO IT!
and Passion.. ANything is possible - If You Don't Go You Don't Know! 📸---weissguy
That's why I love Gibson😎😎😎
📸
All my admiration, Mark. Thank you for the gifts you have shared with all of us through the years.
📸
This is the man that got me into concert photography. I remember seeing those images in Circus and HP and thinking, yeah I want to do that. Thanks Mark for all your great work!
Send me a link to your photography - would love to see it - weissguy
Love Weiss I grew up watching his rock band photos growing up in the 80s I used to ride my bike across town to buy the circus magazine.. and lucky to grow up in that Time when the rock n roll era was taking off
Good thing I got arrested selling my KISS pics.. Thanks Joe 📸--- weissguy
So cool to hear Mark’s story. As a teenager, his photographs were access to the visual world of rock music and the artists behind it all. I’d religiously head to the newsstand every few weeks and the owner was kind enough to let this kid browse all the music magazines there.
Proud and honored to have worked with you through those iconic times. So many great memories and life experiences that are priceless today.
You were at some of those classic shoots assisting me - Glad to see you followed your passion and make a career doing what you love. --- weissguy 📸
I got an attitude toward life from Circus magazine that has carried me through my entire life.
"The best get to party the hardest."
(:
Keep Rockin it Ardiris 📸
Awesome🤘

Gibson, you guys are crushing these intimate TV narratives. Thanks. Gonna go check out the book.

Was recently introduced to Mark and his exceptional art. Me and my buddies are big fans of the bands he has covered over the many years. What a great interview and a geniunely humble guy. Nice to finally meet you, Mark!
I am a big fan too of the bands. We need to let future generations know how cool it was in the 80's. - weissguy📸
WOW…that was freakin awesome…what a cool dude!!!!
Thanks Eddie - Glad to tell my story - Gibson did an amazing job! --- weissguy
Love this. Thank You for the Memories!

I couldn’t begin to count how many of Mark Weiss’s photos from magazines I had plastered on my walls as a kid. Took me way back this morning.
📸
Mark is the greatest rock photographer in the world! He is a great guy to know personally too. He has taken pictures of the most famous rock stars known and he is great at what he does!
Thank you for the kind words Karissa ---weissguy 📸
Outstanding !
📸
That was freakin AWESOME , the bands that were in their prime, when I was in mine , ROCK ON ✌
Cool time to be a fan of rock! --- 📸--- weissguy
Love these introductions to people i have never heard of, but recognise some of their work. Look forward to browsing through the book of his photos, hopefully there are some extended stories with some of the bands.
There is in deed - many stories to go with the photos that meant the most to me. Enjoy the look and read - ---weissguy 📸

Great Video! Mark is the best. 🤟🏻

Another great video showcasing a talent in the music industry that many people (including myself) might not have learned anything about otherwise. I’ve seen countless examples of his amazing work without even knowing it. Keep up the great work, and a great big Cheers to Mark Weiss!
📸 Gibson did an amazing job.
Awesome! I have the book and it’s amazing!!!
Thanks for getting the book - More books to come - 📸 ---weissguy
Great story well presented. Thanks kindly!
📸
Right on man
📸
That was really great!! I was never into looking at dudes when I was a kid, but me and my buddy Rusty would rip through the music as fast as we could get our hands on it. We didn't even know what these bands looked like until MTV started. We were in it for the music!! As an amateur photographer, I totally respect the art!
📸
Another great one! These are really really cool!
📸
The legend behind the lens! ❤
The legend behind the drums! It's always a blast photographing you! Looking forward to shooting you and Vixen at my photography workshop at Monsters On The Mountain.
