Damn...I wish I could remember what documentary I was watching but it was something musically significant (about 30+ yrs ago) and when they showed the crowd he was right in the front row. Damn it! I need to find out what it was...almost like a Forrest Gump moment
I just made a comment saying how everyone is in a great mood when leaving their show. Really I’m in a good mood before getting to the show because I know that I’m going to see a hilarious band that are also great musicians. When you listen to their music you instantly can get into a happy mood even just in ur car but live they really make you have an escape from the real world for their show ur just mentally isolated from reality.
Ran into this legend in Birmingham, just before covid hit, with my best high school friend in a very Wayne’s World fashion. Completely down to earth and easy going real honest dude.
This was absolutely brilliant 😅 man, I love Michael Star. When he changed the background to a forest I was crying with laughter 😂 seriously what a great interview, I really enjoyed it. Steel Panther don’t get enough credit for just how talented they all are and their shows are a blast. Mike’s vocals are killer. Thank you for recording this
This was a fantastic interview. I hung out with Michael at the GVR Casino in Henderson about a decade ago when they had a residency there. He's the most down to earth kind soul in rock and I've been so happy watching Steel Panther get famous. These guys are really great musicians and I love their originals. They joke in songs in the same language that our band mates and friends joke all the time. I know so many fellow musicians that are so full of themselves who are just Dicks to everyone and they'll never go nowhere (I know because I'm getting into my 50s with them and going nowhere along side them). It's so awesome to see these good guys kick ass on the world stage. When I first saw the Darkness, I thought they were similar... thought it was a 70s Rock Spoof that was incredibly virtuous in their own right as musicians. Justin is a born legend. A cross between Freddie Mercury, Bowie, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. 😂
This was a great interview. I would not consider myself a Steel Panther fan, however, I found Michael Starr to be interesting, engaging and he seems like a nice person. He has a great outlook on life and that really resonated with me. Great podcast, Justin! Thank you as always!
This was fun! I liked it. Michael Starr has such a great attitude. Justin is a naturally talented host, so kind, patient, calm, smart, and funny. Anyone should be happy to be a guest on JHRA/TJOV. 😊
I really enjoyed this. I've never listened to Steel Panthers or knew anything about Michael Starr prior to this podcast, but he seems like a really good human being, and it's so cool to hear two rockstar veterans just chat about random stuff and perspectives that we sweaty masses generally aren't privy to. And I fully agree with him that the healthiest bolstering of self-esteem can be found in service to others, to environment, to the vulnerable, etc. Great podcast, thank you!
As an ex-major label hack, so much of this conversation is relatable. Both of these guys seem like they would be easy to hang out with and seem genuinely good natured. Well worth the time investment.
Mega interview!! These guys single handedly introduced me to heavy metal back in the 20’s, and subsequently befriended me. Hearing “Panama” for the first time at the key club but thinking they were singing “rock n roll” then trying to find it the next day before the internet we have now. That entire interview had me smiling throughout! Thank you gentlemen! See you on the next tour 🤘🏼
Great chat, Justin! Love the long form format with guests. And Michael Starr is as genuine and excited to talk with fans as he was with Jussy. We spent about 30 minutes after a show just shooting’ the shit and discussing a lot of the same things he shared here. Good dude. Great band. Thanks for bringing him on the show!
I like how Michael has managed to describe that he has an onstage persona that's separate from his actual life while also staying in character/persona.
James Hetfield is such a reference point on so many of your topics that he would be the perfect guest. Plus, we can all finally find out if he does actually take his own bins out. Great podcast as always.
First saw Michael in 2003 when he he was fronting the Atomic Punks at the Cajun House in Scottsdale AZ and I was blown away by his brilliant channelling of DLR era VH. In fact saw the real DLR on tour singing same songs not even a month later and it wasn’t even close. YES-Michael blew the modern version of the original VH singer off the stage. D. O. A.!!
What an absolute sweetheart! Incredibly entertaining interview. Made me really appreciate a man/band I formerly had no connection to. So genuine. Well done, lads.
The new Steel Panther album is surprisingly brilliant. They have actually made some very interesting musical choices on this one, and it's all the better for it.
I have to say this was one of the best interviews I’d seen about what it’s like to be a musician and what it takes to make it in any way. I’m a big Steel Panther fan because these guys are just such amazing musicians and they’re super funny too. I often wish they’d do something serious because they’re so talented as musos, but they have to do what makes them happy coz that’s what gives them the spark for life. Thanks for this interview Justin & Micheal, I’m gonna share it with all the guys in my hair metal tribute band now. 😊🤘
I loved this, it was so much fun! 🎉 I love Michael Starr and Steel Panther!!! What a great vocalist, and so super talented. ❤❤❤ AND bonus, he's freaking hilarious. 🥳 Love listening to you guys together! ❤
Awesome interview with a man who's an absolute party every single time! I seen Steel Panther in Halifax and I felt like we were all there with them on stage because like he said, they connected with everybody on a human level and joked around. And there's not many, if any, out there that can do it like that. They banged out all their hits. They were just so comfortable to watch and I hope I get to see them play again.
Ralph is so completely adorable. What a total sweetheart, and such a fantastic personality. I wish more people in the world were so positive and happy. He answered lots of cool out of character things I had really wondered about too.
Love, love, looooooooveee this long format! All of em yet have been awesome! Thank you Justin. Your other content is cool too and I get it... all the trouble with copyright... but it's not as fun to watch as it was in the uncensored versions (like perhaps the moves like jagger one). This showing of 2 seconds and then saying some things... not as cool as it was - I know you are NOT to blame! But these long format ones - very, very, very cool!
What I loved most about this segment was the genuineness of the discussion. Yes, Starr was funny, but he was also genuine and engaging. It was great. More like this please!
Thanks for the long form stuff. I know sometimes the views don't always reflect the effort on the longer stuff but I personally bloody love it. Thank you
love the chemistry between you two, and a great interview as always. I've been a big fan of these guys right from the start, great to see them finally getting the recognition they deserve. They're all great musicians in their own right.
First saw Michael Starr (Ralph) at the Whisky when he was in a VH trib band Atomic Punks. I was absolutely how blown away at how great that show was and how awesome he was as a front man. I have seen VH live and truth be told the Atomic Punks show was so much better it wasn't even funny. Several years later, I bumped into him at a rehearsal studio in San Fernando, the Sound Arena, and chatted a little with him. He didn't know me from Adam, but he was a genuinely nice and easy going dude. If anyone deserves to have a great life in music, it's this guy.
Michael is a legend!! Heavy Metal rules \m/ Justin, would love an interview like this one with Satchel!! As a guitar player, i love to hear him talking about his experiences and ways of playing.
Satchel?? I just love the man himself. Had a few amazing interaction’s with him and I can honestly say that he’s a great advocate for mental health and although he’s about 5ft smaller than I am he’s someone I look up to. 😂😂
LOL Man you totally missed Starr saying that 84 year old Melanie was "good in bed".! Glad I watched to the very end, several things had me laughing out loud and cracking up.
a metal show AND the Micheal and Stachel comedy show. Those two with their stage patter are worth the price of admission on their own. Best value in music.

This chat has been such a total joy to watch. Michael comes across as a really nice, genuine bloke.

Steel Panther is a magical band. They are one of the greatest bands of all time and they make me so happy every time I see them live.

“Community Property” is the greatest hard rock ballad of all time.
When I come home, my dinner's made
And the front lawn is mowed...
That violin crescendo 🤌
I've seen Steel Panther live several times. They're a great live show and don't let the kitsch fool you - they have GREAT songs👌
Would be better without the kitsch though. They are good musicians but the humour lasted one song for me.
Ran into this legend in Birmingham, just before covid hit, with my best high school friend in a very Wayne’s World fashion. Completely down to earth and easy going real honest dude.
I went to that gig. I saw them going through the side entrance of the academy, totally star struck 😂
was he less sarcastic then, than in this video?

His scream is insane, and I mean it just seems to come out effortlessly.
The accidental teleportation into a forest and an airplane gave me such a much-needed guffaw today.
i wanted them to keep that going!

This was actually one of the best interviews Ralph has ever given. He allowed himself to NOT be in character…which is a nice change of pace.
The two bands that keeps the rock alive and kicking today... Darkness and Steel Panther!
Wow. Michael Starr seems to be a really cool, funny guy. Great episode.
I was waiting for the 2 singers tackling tech moment, and it happened just the way i imagined. hahaha nice one.
