Perfect timing that not only did this win on the Patreon for today, but it's also Keanu Reeves birthday; crazy how that worked out. Happy birthday to the legend himself! :)
React to The Haunted Mansion movie next please
React to The Page Master movie
React to Beetlejuice movie
This is the movie that introduced me to Keanu Reeves and Jeff Daniels. Plus sooo many others. The plane was being moved by the truck which means no passengers, pilots or anyone on it
The Relic
Keanu's real best friend, River Phoenix, died right before filming was supposed to begin. They graciously pushed back filming so Keanu could mourn. He said that Speed really helped him get out all his emotions... the scene after he is told Harry died becomes so much more realistic after I heard about his real life tragedy.
Holy shit…no wonder it felt so real. Honestly Keanu Reeves best role. His acting was on point in this one.
I really didn't know that
That makes so much sense because you can tell in that moment he truly looked upset and frustrated.
@@OctoKrool I got a telegram from you saying I’ve need selected for a prize or whatever? I went to the link and I can’t message you…….
@@phillychick4196 No, those are bots.
The lady in the elevator froze up because flight and fight aren't the only responses to extreme stress. There is also freeze, where the fear is so bad it essentially locks up your body and your ability to form reasonable thought. It's kind of like how some animals "play dead" in response to stressors.
Yup that and she must have been thinking that, if the elevator drops further, she'll be cut in half
Also she was probably aware that there was the very real possibility of the elevator falling while she was getting out, cutting her in two, or cutting her feet off...or whatever. Unless the elevator is secure pulling people out like that is not exactly 'safe'. That knowledge was probably part of the fear that froze her up. LOL.. I know because I've been trapped in an elevator before and even after the emergency people got the doors slightly open they didn't put their hands through and cautioned us not to do it... they did pass a few things through (candy for the children that were in the car) but never a hand or arm, only things.
"Point Break"
"Devil's Advocate" - both are Keanu's must watch movies!
So true.....
Lose?!? I don't lose!... I WIN!... I WIN! I'm a lawyer! That's my job! That's what I do!! One of his best lines man 💯
Devil's Advocate is surprisingly excellent and Good Ol' Al Pacino is having an absolute riot.
Years back I was watching SVU, and my brother came by to borrow a $20. He goes: *"That's the full frontal chick from The Devil's Advocate!!! Whoa, there's the topless one!!!"* He turned his car off, sat down, and has been an SVU fan ever since.
@@DJ-hl8mg "I rest my case". Perfect finish to that passionate dialogue. Those two worked perfectly off each other!
It's super cute that both Keanu and Sandra admitted to having crushes on each other but didn't know the other one did too.
I know we were denied a genuine decent Hollywood couple
I’m not even I’m to that but they are both super nice
As annoying as the "tourist" is in this movie, he is also one my favorite comic reliefs. The 'Oh Darn' when on the phone with Harry, kills me everytime. The actor really nailed the part.
He plays Cameron in Ferris
@@jimglenn6972 and was a full cast member in the underrated "spin city" with Michael J Fox and later Charlie sheen
Alan Ruck is his name.
Cleveland guy. Love it
The oh darn is my favorite line in the movie 🤣🤣
This has one of the best ensemble casts. The people on the bus could have been cardboard cutouts but they gave them personality and backstory. I cared when that old lady got ran over. I wanted that tourist to get to see LA. I wanted to bus driver to make it to the hospital. That's good writing.
One of the things I remember when this was released was that every character on the bus had a fully developed biography that was shared with the actors. Every actor knew their character's life history all the way down to exactly why they were on the bus that day.
@@cincinnati6595 what did the petty criminal with the gun do?
@@dnish6673 don't know. They didn't share with me, just the actor.
Exactly!!! They don't make them like they used to!
The Italian bus driver gets blown up, the black bus driver gets shot, the Latino passenger is a gun-toting criminal, the Asian lady screwed up the video loop, and the successful black motorist gets his car trashed and his phone stolen...
...RACIST! 😂😂😂
Sandra and Keanu have both admitted in interviews that they were mutually crushing on each other while making this movie but neither made the leap of faith to confess their feelings
“What’s the matter with his hand?!”
“It’s fine, don’t worry about it.”
OMG you guys crack me up, seriously it’s so much fun watching your reactions! 🤣 Great way to end the week!
And when he said that it looked like he got into a fight with a purple sharpie, I was just thinking about the bag of money and was like, "Yeah, about that."
RULE 1: DON'T WATCH THE SEQUEL TO SPEED
RULE 2: DON'T TALK ABOUT THE SEQUEL
RULE 3: If this is your first time to the channel, you have to subscribe.
RULE 4: IF YOU LIKE SPEED 2 .. TONIGHT YOU HAVE TO FIGHT
Rule 5: there is no speed 2 it doesn't exist
8:26 - It's called "fear paralysis." Like when a rabbit, speedily hopping across a road, suddenly freezes in the oncoming headlights, instead of continuing on to live another day.
29:34 - It was being towed. And from all appearances, it was a cargo plane.
The chokehold this movie had on people when this came out was insane. The buzz cut was a huge trend due to Keanu's haircut in the movie. He was the perfect action hero in this!
Tom Cruise could have made this movie!
@@tomselleck6341 yes terribly
@@tomselleck6341 He wasn't an action star back in the 90s. Even the first Mission Impossible had very little action.
He looks so different with the buzz lol
I personally lusted after Sandra's boots...
This and Point Break really started Keanu's rise as an action star
They need to do point break next!
@k3n12ock
INcorrect! Bill and Ted did!
Point Break is a solid movie, but Keanu's performance is much better in Speed.
Action star. Bill and Ted are not action movies. @@MrParkerman6
The baby stroller scene got me reacting that way too 😂
This movie solidified Sandra Bullocks's status as America's sweetheart. She's so great in this movie. Her and Keanu had so much chemistry together. I need one more movie from them
“The Lake House” will make your brain explode! ❤️ Total sleeper movie, but if you are a Keanu and Sandra fan, you will LOVE it!
Randomly saw in on a flight. Bought it immediately after it came out on DVD. ❤️🥰😍
@@BewareTheJabberwock Really! You were the first person I've heard talking about this. Now I kind of want to watch it
They apparently independently had crushes on each other but never did anything about it.
@@dahliaherrod4301 it's a good movie...one of my favorite romance movies
@@dahliaherrod4301 I love The Lake House. It’s so satisfying to see them together again.
I gotta say guys, RIP DENNIS HOPPER. I love most of his films and in my mind Dennis Hopper was one of those actors on and off screen will always be known as a Legend/Goat in my eyes..
Hopper's death really affected me because he was one of the last links to the fifties, especially "Rebel Without a Cause" and "Giant."
The soundtrack in this film absolutely slaps
That bit at 13:06 wasn't meant to happen. Keanu really did crack the window. They probably filmed that shot several times with him hitting it, but not cracking it. And when they filmed that take, he hit the window and actually cracked it. And they put that shot in the movie.
My assumption is the last woman in the elevator was simply frozen in fear. Like Upham in Saving Private Ryan; both cases required quick and immediate actions. It's hard to say how you or I would react if put into an emergency situation.
Yes. People like to say it's fight or flight but the truth is it's fight, flight or freeze.
Also, in her mind, every time she tried to move towards the door, the elevator would start to shake more, so her panic stricken mind would think that her moving would cause it to fall.
One thing is true in this movie. People in high stress situations used dark humour to counter the horrific things they see or have to do as a Policeman or Firefighters. I’ve known many Service men, soldiers, EMS and many of them used the same tactics to soften the blow of all the trauma they go through
Very true.
You: “whenever there’s a really nice car, it gets destroyed”
True. Especially considering that Cameron is a passenger on the bus! He probably never got over destroying his dad’s car. 😉😆
Having seen this in the cinema... you have no idea how old it makes me feel watching people "discover" this movie for the first time.
they don’t exactly go “fast” but they have to maintain and respect the “speed “ that they go
I remember my sixth grade best friend made me watch this over and over again when it first came out on vhs.
She loved Keanu reeves and would act out the scenes.
I’m old.
My mom re-watched this movie to death and I had to watch. lol
One of the great thrillers. When I saw it at the theater, I was trying to figure out what was next after the elevator. Then, came terror on the bus. I thought the movie was over...then it was the subway car!!
Fun Fact: Joss Whedon re-wrote the script uncredited. According to Graham Yost, who is the credited writer, Whedon wrote most of the dialogue.
Also Keanu only agreed to the role after Whedons rewrites, since he thought the original script too closely resembled Die Hard.
As a fan of Buffy, I can believe that. It sounds like his kind of dialogue for sure.
On the blu ray audio commentary for this movie, the director actually mentioned how much he hated that title font too. But they we're scrambling to finish the movie by the release date so he couldn't change it. That font only appears in the movie though and nowhere on any of the advertising.
You guys make me so happy! I freaking LOVE this movie. It's a classic in my eyes. My friends and I saw it twice in theaters.
We would quote this movie consistently! Glad you enjoyed.
This movie locked in my total obsession with Keanu Reeves when it came out.
Also, simultaneously started my sparks for buff men in cargo pants with lots of pockets lol
Great choice!
Ooooh yeeees
@@ninawildr4207 lol 🙌🏻🤓😅
I think it's the bowlegged run. Keanu started my love affair with bowlegged men. God bless him 🙏
@@dahliaherrod4301 hahaha omgosh everything about him, his raspy deep voice with a little west coast type flavor sprinkled on top, his crew haircut, even the way he chewed his damn gum! Just yum 😋 lol
@@elizabitty213 well since we're 🤤 today. What clinched it for me was the trice flex when he was pulling himself up from underneath the bus. I don't know why but that really did it for me.
Ah, where I fell in love with Keanu AND Sandra Bullock. I remember watching this as a 9 year old and the part where Keanu looks under the bus, sees the bomb and says “f-- me!” I said out loud “Okay!” My 11 year old brother just looked at me in horror. Ah, good times.
Happy Birthday Keanu Reeves. A man who adorned the walls of my first 3 girlfriends bedrooms in the 90's
The fact that the fourth didn't should have been your first clue to run lol.
I was that girl
I love this movie...saw it multiple times when it first came out! FYI-the plane that blew up was a courier plane, so there wouldn't have been any passengers, and it was being towed, so it was pretty much out of commission. And, you see the tow truck driver run away from the explosion. I saw this movie on a flight and they actually edited that scene out of the movie...LOL!
A great movie. You should check out other Keanu old movies like Point Break, Constantine , The Devil Advocate and Chain Reaction. Fyi the plane was empty he was towed and the guy who was towing it got out so no one got hurt.
Point Break & Chain Reaction. 💪🏾
Love this movie. That plane was being moved into place towed by a cart in front so there weren't any people on it. And I think Mythbusters did the bus stunts. They definitely did the hard turn and found that it actually takes a lot of effort to tip a bus.
Thanks for the love, care and support....
It's a pleasure talking to you over here,, where are you from ?
Mythbusters did both of the bus stunts and the bus 'ramp was totally busted! Lol
That's nice dear
How long have you been a fan
I love, love, love how this movie ramps up the tension. An action masterpiece. Practical effects. Some comedy to release some tension. Fun reaction! Thanks for sharing it with us.
But then they went and released "Speed 2."
Physics went right out the window with that jump.
Fear can stun people, just like any other emotion or an event that traumatizes. I appreciated the honest response and different reactions they gave to the characters. Not everyone can handle the same things, and even if they can, it is handled in different ways of response, even if it's the way one person would not respond to the same situation another person would. The lady on the elevator showed this perspective. I really love this movie, saw it in the theater when it came out. The theater was packed. We, the audience, was on the edge of our seats with the suspense. I really miss going to a movie theater and seeing excellent films. It used to really be worth going to the movies to experience a great movie back in the day. Btw, everyone in the theater chuckled when Helen got blown up lol!
I appreciate this movie because unlike most action films of the time, it was about the thrill not a violent body count. Also, it actually had a screenplay. It’s available as a .pdf online.
3 old school Keanu moves you may like also: Constantine, Devil's Advocate, and Bram Stoker's Dracula. His accent was bad in this one, but he was making the effort. It's still a great movie.
Fun fact about the tight right turn at 19:55. City busses are built bottom heavy and one was tested on Mythbusters in this exact scenario. Not only didn’t it tip over, it stayed on all of its wheels throughout the turn with weight distributed evenly across the seats. But in the movie, it does make for an exciting moment to do it the way they did it.
None of the actors knew the timing of the explosion of the bus. What you see is their genuine shock and surprise at the explosion.
1994 had two classic action movies that no one saw coming. This movie and True Lies. Anyone who said at the time Keanu on a bus/bomb and Arnold Schwarzenegger teams up with Tom Arnold aka Mr. Roseanne would produce two of the best action movies of the 90’s would’ve been checked for drugs.🤣
Tom Arnold was perfect in that role. I was really disappointed they never made a sequel.
True Lies is my favorite movie with Arnold!!!
OMG!
They would LOVE “True Lies!”
😎🤣😂🤣
@@hshaughnessy17 I agree, that’s why it was so unexpected.🤣👍
True Lies is amazing!
My guys, it was 1994. That's why we love these movies. We love entertainment, that's all you expect going to a cinema
KR in the 90s just killed it: "Point Break", "Little Budha", "Dracula", "Speed", "Johnny Mnemonic", "Chain Reaction" (my favourite), "Devil's Advocate", "The Matrix". After that, I think "John Wick" put him back in the spotlight.
When the bus and the plane exploded, no one was hurt. It was an empty cargo plane that was being towed to a maintenance hanger.
The airplane that exploded was a cargo plane, so there were no passangers. It was being moved by a tug, and the tug driver got out. I thought I remembered seeing the pilots get out too, but I can't remember for sure. I like to think they did, and are living their best lives!😂
Two years later the director of this movie, Jan De Bont, would direct Twister, another great 1990s movie.
BTW, there wasn't anybody on the plane that blew up. It was being towed.
I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to speed around the city, keeping its speed over fifty, and if its speed dropped, the bus would explode! I think it was called "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down."
I remember my brother seeing this movie in theaters 5 times in 7 days. I wanted to see it so bad but I was 9. I made up for lost time in rental late fees when it came to VHS
The days of blockbuster were bittersweet. I really wish I could "rewind" to 15 years ago
I remember e1 in school was talking about the "thong lady" on the elevator 🤣🤣🤣
@@clevelandcbi hahaha that lady was important to my growth
@@ryanmckenna3503 Absolutely. She gave an amazing performance.
I saw it to kill time at a matinee. I immediately got my husband when he got off work and went right back. Then we took more people the next night. It was an adrenaline rush watching on the big screen.
08:17 - because she doesn't want to be sliced in half by the door. Equally afraid of falling, there for frozen with fear.
The woman in the elevator was most likely just frozen from pure terror and panic... It's almost impossible to predict how you would act in such a dire situation until you're in it. Just how it goes
They could jump the bus because it's an awesome 90s action movie. That's why.
Yo this is like plot armour but better
It’s literally a special move I mean Last Action hero showed us
👀 I am shocked and appalled by you two bc you have the AUDACITY to just now be seeing Speed with my future husband Keanu? How dare you! I demand you watch him in Point Break, The Watcher, The Gift, and Constantine... otherwise you're disowned kind Sirs.
*Point Break
@@peachcobly5172 LOL! Thanks for the heads up...my auto correct betrays me often. I fixed it.
Bill and Ted's....they would love it. But ya.. Point Break!
I’m sure they are super worried
And Devil's Advocate
We all say what we would do if we were in the situation, but it’s completely different when you are in it. It’s called Fight, Flight, or Freeze. You fight back, you run away, or you are in so much shock or fear that you just can’t move.
The part with the cans ALWAYS ALWAYS CATCHES PEOPLE OFF GUARD!!!
Saw it opening night back in 94 and I can't think of many movies where the entire crowd gasp and then was absoluelty silent...
Sandra's acting helps put it over as well.
Speed is one of my all time favorites. I didn’t think you guys seen it. There is a sequel though. But I strongly advise y’all not to check it out cause it sunk. Anyway, kudos to y’all.
Speed 3 is going to be on a submarine
i'd argue speed 2 is worth a reaction video just because it's in the "so bad it's good" category. It's unintentionally hilarious and their reactions would be gold
Well, we’ll leave it up to them if they want to check it out.
@Myron lols hahhahaha.. brilliantly said.. lols
One of my favourite films of all time! One of Keanu's best films. Made even better with the metal gear theme thrown in!
Great reaction guys!
You guys should watch The Net with Sandra Bullock.
A childhood action classic. Love Keanu Reeves and Dennis Hopper.
3:11 Score by Mark Mancina, same composer for Bad Boys (1995).
43:28 I was a teenager in the 90's and used to laugh with my friends at the impossible flying bus scene, it's such a ridiculous scene, but we didn't care. When you watch a movie like Speed, you just want to have a good time and Speed provides a lot of fun.
As others have said, Point Break should be your next action Keanu movie, it's quite good ;)
Mythbusters tried the bus jump a long time ago and it didn't work. Wonder why they didn't have a ramp in the film and shorten it to something like 30ft as that would have been somewhat more believable.
Because they used the actual freeway that was almost complete to film the movie. So they had to make it work. They actually did jump the bus to film it, but it was difficult.
Keanu reeves was so freaking hot in this! Wish he got more credit for his movies
"We're at the airport!" I already seen the airport!" 🤣 That actor name is Alan Ruck. He portrays the same kind of foolish character in the HBO show Succession!
I was 10 when this movie came out. I miss action packed adult movies that kids could still watch and enjoy as well. The 90s were an amazing time for amazing movies and I'm so glad yall are checking out the great ones! If you haven't watched The Net yet I highly recommend it, it's an underrated movie starring Sandra Bullock...also during Christmas yall have to check out While You Were Sleeping with Sandra as well!
Yessss! Cooking dinner and watching my fav reactors with another classic 90s movie. Still looking forward to you all reacting to "Everything Everywhere All At Once" truly one of the best movies...maybe of all time?
1994 is considered to be one of the greatest years in American Cinema. A lot of great movies that year, so many classics. Speed is a great example of that, it's an action classic. Also, it's the year you were born, right? A big hug from Portugal.
Big hug right back to you in Portugal and yes 1994 was the year we spawned into the world lol.
No matter what you may have heard there is no sequel 🤣
Letting Sam off wasn’t Payne being agreeable; it was him honoring his own perverse rules for his “game”. On the payphone call, he told Jack he couldn’t take any passengers off the bus. He never included a rule about the driver, so Jack’s ingenuity wins that point.
To answer your questions on how could they do that? My dad used to tell me that we ain’t supposed to ask those kinds of questions. As an audience, we supposed to be stupid. LOL!
Sandra is soooo fine in this movie. I just fell in love with her the first time watching this back in the day. Great reaction guys!
same even at her current age i'm still in love with her
I loved watching your reaction to Speed. It’s always a throw back favourite to me. I hope you still find time to watch Roadhouse though, or put it back on the polls till it wins. It’s a great movie and one of my favourite Swayze movies.
Oh wow. It is Keanu's birthday today. Noice.
I used to listen to this soundtrack while working a data entry job. You got paid for speed and accuracy.
I think they hinted that Harry would die when he while drunk talked about how he’s not gonna be there for Jack all the time. Than Howard mentioned that Harry was the brains of the 2 going back to Harry telling Jack he wouldn’t be around all the time to help him
"Poor people are crazy. Rich people are eccentric." 😄
I have always loved this movie. Sandra and Keanu are perfect together.
Great Reaction!!!
Thanks for the love, care and support...
It's a pleasure talking to you over here,, where are you from ?
I was so excited to see this reaction on my "Recommended" feed, tonight! I was already stoked when another reactor checked out, "Twister" today. And then this, was the cherry on top! Thank you. Now that you've seen "Speed", please check out Keanu in, "Point Break". Another great 90's action movie. Have a great weekend. Peace out, from the PNW.
“Are they going to help us?”
“Sure they are. Their the police.”
I saw you two smirking! Lololol
This is when I first fell in love with Keanu ❤😂😂😂😂
Girl me too , my friends would push me out of the way to kiss the screen during his camera shots
Keanu was his hottest in this movie
Both Sandra and Keanu have said they had crushes on each other during shooting, but neither same anything to the other at the time.
I saw this movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode! I think it was called... “The Bus That Couldn’t Slow Down.”
In regards to the plane. You can see in the shot before it hits, that it's being pulled by the yellow vehicle. That's what they do with empty planes, kind of like towing but just moving it elsewhere. Plane was empty.
14:56, Reeves did that stunt in one take!!
I was still a child when I watched this movie and I fell in love with Keanu Reeves then 😍 also loved him with Sandra Bulock 😚
The tourist on the bus is Ferris Bueller’s best friend Cameron in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”
When they hit the baby stroller full of cans you can tell that Keanu was trying his hardest not to laugh at the way Sandra Bullock was acting!
Another great reaction love from the UK, another good film of Keanu not talked about much is Little Buddha, Keanu Reeves plays the Buddha
8:23 What was with the hesitation? Seriously? The elevator could've gone at any time, cutting someone in half if they happened to be unfortunate enough to be pulled out just at that time. This is what happens when someone is completely terrified. You freeze and you shut down. It becomes almost impossible to move and reason & logic go out the window. That is why she wouldn't go.
Part of the soundtrack of Speed really reminds me of the music from Metal Gear Solid. I've looked it up before and it isn't the same composer, but it has that same feel. One of my favorite action movies ever because it's just so good with little downtime.
Edit: Wow, you mentioned it right at the first of the video! lol
Yeah, never noticed until now how much it sounds like it.
The next time Keanu and Sandra costarred in a movie was The Lake House (a good romance).
Director Jan De Bont was the cinematographer on DIE HARD. The airline name was Pacific Courier which is the same logo on the truck Hans used to get his goons in Nakatomi plaza
if you didnt notice already, the plane was being towed by a little yellow car, which didnt explode at all so the driver is perfectly fine
The plane at the end was being towed so we can infer no one was on it.
Plus, while it's difficult to spot because it's only on screen for a split second before the explosion, it's labeled "Pacific Courier." The "courier" implies it's a delivery company plane, like FedEx.
Everyone knows fight or flight. But it's actually fight flight or freeze... it was panic/anxiety. She was "stopped dead in her tracks" in the opening scene.
Edit: "Ya shoulda got shot, lady!" 🤣
Watch "Point Break" with Reeves, Patrick Swayze and Gary Busey, directed by Katherine Bigalow. Wild ride, great movie. Bigalow is James Cameron's first wife and she won an Oscar for directing The Hurt Locker another great film.
I love my caption translater. "There was no baby... It was full of cats."
*****
BTW, the plane was for freight. You can see the truck pulling it across the runway. No people in it.
I had to turn on captions to see that for myself. THANK YOU. 🤣🐾
this is ''pure'' 90s action movies: funny caracters, funny moments, a bit 'crazy' story with very much personality
