Hey guys, thanks for reacting to this, I love this movie! Some explanations from my side: 1. "White men can't jump" is a movie feat. Wesley Snipes that came out little before this one. 2. Patrick Stewart was an Shakespear actor but of course better known as Cpt. Picard in Star Trek TNG, especially in the early 90s. 3. "It's goot to be the king!" is a reference to the movie "History of the world: Part one", also directed by Mel Brooks. 4. The "English accent" line is a pun against Kevin Costner's performance in "Robin Hood: King of thieves" which was a blockbuster in '91. 5. The magic pill is a "Life Saver" 😉 6. The screaming kid is a reference to Kevin in "Home alone". Greetings from Germany!
I love the randomness of Prince John's mole moving to different places on his face. Then the Sheriff of Rottingham says "wasn't your mole on the other side?". And Prince John replies "I have a mole?!" 😂😂😂
You do realize that the hangman is Boris from Blazing Saddles - however his eyepatch is over his other eye this time. When the king is kissing Marian the rabbi says "It's good to be the king", that's another famous line from the Mel Brooks movie History of the World Part1
The patriot arrow was a rewrite, it was a reference to the patriot missile during operation desert storm. The original script had the guy split robins arrow in half, then robins next arror he split not only that guys arrow in half but he also split in half the target and the tree it was attached to
In the last 30 years I have watched this movie, and/ or clips of it, eight hundred times .... but I always missed the bangle / Loxley reference. I am not Jewish, and honestly don't know that many people who are. But your acknowledgement of getting it, totally made me look it up. I can't say that it gave me a new appreciation for Mel Brooks because I always had one, it just solidifies the appreciation
Watch "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1930s) and "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves." These were the 2 biggest ones parodied for this flick (esp the choreography--that's straight from the 30s movie).
You'll pick up on new jokes every time you watch it. I can't tell you how many times I've seen this movie. Today was the first time I realized the Bagels and Lox joke because you drew attention to it. My favorite joke in the whole thing is at the end when Latrine is saving the sheriff the pill she gave him to save his life is a lifesaver mint candy.
Latrine was played by Tracy Ullman she used to have her own show that's where the Simpsons started but you seem to have missed the chastity belt call the locksmith scene at the end
You know, I've seen this move at least 100+ times, and I've never once got the "Locksley and Bagelle" joke, so thanks for that. lol. This is one of my favorite movies of all time, I'd watch it as a kid every time it would come on HBO and subsequently Comedy Central growing up.
this is my favorite comedy of all time! I remember the first time I saw it was when my parents ordered it on Pay-Per-View when we lived in Alaska in the mid-90's. This movie has so many funny quotes! The interaction when prince John asks Robin, "And, why should the people listen to you?" And, Robin replies, "Because unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent!" Total shade at Kevin Costner, who had just played Robin Hood in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. And, at the end, after Robin appoints Achoo the sheriff. After the townspeople exclaim, "A black sheriff?!" And, Achoo replies, "And why not? It worked in Blazing Saddles." I love those lines!!!!
How you guys grew up without this movie is BEYOND me!! This is easily Top 3 of Cary's Best Movies! OF course, The Princess Bride being number one! Also, the actor that plays the priest at the hanging also played the King/Dad in Spaceballs.
The Rabbi is Mel Brooks who created this movie and Spaceballs. In the original it’s a catholic friar, but Mel Brooks is Jewish so he likes to stick that into his movies like “A-Chu” and in Spaceballs “A Druish Princess”

The order is as follows:
Clerks (1994) you’ve already seen
Mallrats (1995)
Chasing Amy (1996)
Dogma (1999)
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back(2001)
Clerks II (2006)
Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019)
Clerks III (2022)
Saw a limited screening of Clerks 3. Was awesome to see the gang again. Like old friends.
Yes!!
I think the screaming kid is a Home Alone reference.
"It's good to be the king" is a quote from Brooks' History of the World Part I.
Love this one! Though my favorite Mel Brooks is History of the World Part 1... hope you react to it too!
The kid screaming was a reference to Home Alone. Also, the line "It's good to be the King" is a running Mel Brooks joke throughout his movies 😊
I can watch this movie over and over again without getting tired of it. My favorite parts were rottingham getting catapulted into Latrine's bedroom and the horses laughing with the crowd when the priest said Mervin
Love how you guys got all excited about the four day workweek. I've been fighting for that my entire life. We need a Saturday, Sunday and Funday.
I love this movie. It makes me wish Cary got the chance to play Robin Hood in a real Robin Hood movie.
He didnt, but Matthew poretta who plays will Scarlett actually did play Robin Hood in a tv series
@@marcusfridh8489 yes I know that
@@biguy617 it was a 1990's Cheesy series, but i liked it. I think it was highly inspired by the other 1990's fantasy shows, like xena, Hercules and so on, there was even a fantastseries about Wilhelm Tell.
@@marcusfridh8489 I think I remembered the series
Great reaction. The screaming child in the beginning who has to go "home alone" always gets a chuckle out of me. I think it hits home a bit more because I was a kid and Home Alone was more of a household name back then.
Fun fact when they did the domino scene with the armor they did it in just one take.
I still can't believe you've never seen this Mel Brooks classic before 😱😱
25:35 It's a nod to the MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missile, which was all the rage at the time of filming.
One of my favorite comedies. I wish you showed the reaction to the lend me your ears and the sherrif asking prince john about the mole, but still fun
"I've got this magic pill..."
It's a Lifesaver.
The U.S. has a missile defense system that they used to defend Bagdad from Scud missiles , it was called the Patriot missile system. If you ever watch Kevin Costner's Robin Hood Prince of thieves you will understand the Patrick Stewart entrance.
I'd like to recommend *The Adventures of Robin Hood* starring Errol Flynn.
Also *The Thin Man* from 1934. Murder mystery with humor.
Man, the mime's close call was a real rollercoaster of emotions there for a minute.
Must watch the 1938 classic, The Adventures of Robin Hood with Errol Flynn (it's in color), to see the outstanding cast and Hollywood legend Errol Flynn.
Yooooo!!! Childhood memories. I didn’t even get some of the jokes as an innocent child (had no comprehension of circumcision, for example), but sibs and I still loved it! Any other ladies have a crush on Cary Elwes? 🙋🏾♀️
For decades, yes.
The Hangman in this was the same guy they used as the hangman in Blazing Saddles
Your delayed reaction to “a Jew? Here?” is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.
My favorite joke is when Blinkin is telling Robin about his family.
Robin: "My goldfish Goldie?"
Blinkin: "Eaten by the cat."
Robin: "My cat?"
Blinkin: "Choked on the goldfish."
:D
I love that the pill she gives him is a Life Saver candy mint
One of my favorite movies, grew up watching it so often
It's a shame they don't make movies like this anymore.
Another great classic Mel Brooks parody!
😎
Also one of my favorite Cary Elwes performances!
"He's black?!" My favorite Blinkin quote.
You may have missed that the executioner was the same guy who played the executioner in Blazing Saddles. The 'shithouse', latrine, johns.
Parishioner: "Hey abbot!"
Abbot: "I HATE that guy!"
I had a VHS copy of this movie as a kid that my grandpa recorded off HBO. Probably the last VHS I had.
Hey guys,
thanks for reacting to this, I love this movie! Some explanations from my side:
5. The magic pill is a "Life Saver" 😉
6. The screaming kid is a reference to Kevin in "Home alone".
Greetings from Germany!
Oh I really hope you two watch Young Frankenstein - you'll have such a good time. 😁
I love the randomness of Prince John's mole moving to different places on his face. Then the Sheriff of Rottingham says "wasn't your mole on the other side?". And Prince John replies "I have a mole?!"
😂😂😂
A callback to Eyegor's hunch in Young Frankenstein
One of my all time guilty pleasures is watching this movie and all its brilliant nonsense lol
Great choice you guys!
Still waiting for you guys to watch Dick Tracy (1990)!
😎
It’s truly a movie that more people should talk about!
“Leave us alone mel brooks!”
You do realize that the hangman is Boris from Blazing Saddles - however his eyepatch is over his other eye this time.
When the king is kissing Marian the rabbi says "It's good to be the king", that's another famous line from the Mel Brooks movie History of the World Part1
ONe of the most classic movies ever!! Love it!!
It's been several years since I've watched this entire movie, and I had completely forgotten about the bagels and lox joke.
This is another favorite from my childhood and when I started loving Dave Chappelle thanks for reviewing !
My mom went into labor with my little sister from laughing so hard watching this movie in '94 lol.
Y’all really should watch I’m gonna get you sucka by the Wayans Brothers & it also has Isaac Hays in it as well.😂❤
Blinkin: "I can see! *WHUMP* -- "No.. I was wrong.."
Yeah it helps to have seen those prior to watching this movie.
Latrine was played by Tracy Ullman she used to have her own show that's where the Simpsons started but you seem to have missed the chastity belt call the locksmith scene at the end
these guys have radio show energy
You know, I've seen this move at least 100+ times, and I've never once got the "Locksley and Bagelle" joke, so thanks for that. lol. This is one of my favorite movies of all time, I'd watch it as a kid every time it would come on HBO and subsequently Comedy Central growing up.
the Patriot Arrow is a reference to the Patriot missile that was used during Desert Storm, which had recently happened.
I think my favorite part of it was the moving mole on prince john
this is my favorite comedy of all time!
If you're going to do Mel Brooks you have to visit "History of the World Part 1
Yes!!
Blinken is my favorite! His lines fucking kill me! "OH master Robin, you lost your arms in battul!" "Did you just say Abe Lincoln?!" And my favorite "Guessing... I'm guessing no one is coming" Hahahahahahaha
Did you watch the end credits? There is a whole scene of their honeymoon. The key didn’t fit with her chastity belt.
Remember "it's good to be the King" if you review other Mel Brooks movies.
Yes history of the world! Part 1 of course
Hot Damn! Another excellent choice. Oh, Master Robin, you've lost your arms in battle!
