  • Is your engine Burning Oil like mine? I tried this popular additive to see if it would stop the engine in my Cayenne from burning oil. Watch and find out if it works?

On my Audi, the issue was the PCV valve. Fixing that stopped the oil consumption.

Kevin, thanks for posting this up! I've got a 2014 Base that is indicating exactly as yours; about a quart between oil changes to a quart every 1K to 1.5. Totally caught me by surprise. Bone dry; no leaks. My suspicion is seals. Rings, in my experience, are more gradual. Also, my oil analysis is good, but certainly indicates lots of short trips and start ups.

From what Liqui Moly says about this product is that it doesn’t help with rings and that it should just work with seals. So far I have gone 1.4k miles since i have put it in. The electronic level states ive used 1/4 of a quart so far. I’ve got another 800+ mile trip this weekend. I’ll see what happens, if oil burning accelerates as the oil gets older

I used to build Porsche motors and Porsche states 1 quart per ~800 - 1000 miles consumption is normal. I understand you might not have had this leading up to this point, but this is what Porsche states. Even though this is a VW motor... Anyway, the LiquiMoly could have dressed up the cylinder walls a bit which could have cured oil usage - this could explain why you still have smoke on start up (valve seals). It only takes a couple of drops in a couple cylinders to produce blue smoke on start up - yours seems to come now from the right side exhaust, so you can identify cylinders. FYI - my track motors (I'm an air cooled guy), including mine (79 930), used 1 qt every 600-800 miles. But cylinder walls, bearings, guides, etc did not have any appreciable wear after 500 miles of high RPM, WOT use. Engines lasted a full season. NASCAR uses quarts per race! Its a balance between ample oiling and not allowing fuel to wash by rings in the other direction and dilute the oil. You probably know all this, but just in case. Thanks for great videos - you've saved me a lot of money with my Cayenne!

Thanks for watching Don. I know Porsche says that 1 quart is ok per 1k miles. But that seems too much too me. Up until this winter it was using just over a quart per oil change. Then it just shot up to 4+ every 5k. That little puff comes from both sides it's never the same. I wonder if that muffler is split. Some car manufacturers have had issues and had to replace engines for this much consumption. Hyundai and Toyota come to mind. They mainly had issue because it wasn't mentioned in their manuals that this was normal. Porsche has that little clause to cover their butt. Liqui Moly says that the motor oil saver doesn't do anything for rings just seals. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next 4K miles. I'll do a part 2 when it's time to change the oil again. Now if this was a race car I wouldn't care. Running looser tolerances on the pistons and rings I would expect that. Your 930 must be a blast to drive. You're right it is a balancing act. Ideally in a street car you want loose rings for less friction more MPG but you get oil consumption and then you have fuel dilution issues. Too tight then increased friction less MPG no oil consumption but engine wear over time. I used to build High HP Turbo 4cyl engines decades ago. Piston to Wall clearance and Ring Gap was so important but not for the reasons above.

Compression/leakdown test would be interesting, but ya I think you're correct that you're getting a small leak past the valve stems. Glad the consumption is gone. That Porsche/Audi/VW 1L/1000mi quote is utter BS/CYA nonsense.
At least getting at the head is less work on that car if needed. The flat 6 might be a different story :)
My 996.2 has minor bore scoring and hates being run cold. I think the rings/bore are the issue. Shut it down warm and no issue. Run it for short trips and park it cold, and it's like a smokescreen on next startup.
I'm not losing any sleep over it, but I know the motor's days are likely numbered.

Maybe you can do an engine flush then add the oil saver. The assumption comes from the fact that the smoke is only coming from the right pipe. The valve cleaner might also help.

Vibration/rattle at idle? Check your passenger rear fender well. It may be the gas filler tube rattling against the body inside of the fender well. Took me forever to track this down, but a little double sided tape to cushion the tube solved the problem!

Hi Kevin good afternoon today is Saturday it's like 1:30 Eastern standard Time I got a question for you I'm looking to buy a 2013 Porsche Cayenne I noticed your videos were also a 2013 Porsche Cayenne with the V6 in it my question is the car I'm looking at when in park or when stopped at a traffic light it seems to have a little vibration almost like a hopping sound for a lack of a better term it's not a hesitation it's not a Miss it's not a skip it just seems to be a constant vibration like a low frequency vibration I was wondering if that's just the way a 6 cylinder operates when you step on the gas it goes away there's no misfire there doesn't feel any other anomaly just like I said in park or out of traffic light it seems to have what feels like a little hopping vibration I was wondering if you can get back to me let me know if this is normal for the V6 it's not a turbo it's not an s all right thanks I look forward to your text

Mine also a a slight vibration at idle and is worse with the ac on compared to the ac off. Also there is no check engine light on. This for the most part is ok its that the engine mounts are wearing over time and on a vehicle that 10 years old. As long as it slight and there is no skipping while driving you should be ok. While I’m not there to experience first hand from what you describe it seems ok. If you were to experience slipping while driving and the check engine light is not on that is a different story. Good luck!

No leakage with the mounts. They can leak from the water pump make sure that got changed around 60k or so that when it starts. If they are well maintained they wont leak oil. My is bone dry but they can leak from the front and rear main seal but usually not severe.
