    I will say Don. Although both men look sharp as a blade when coming to their respective businesses, when on their free time, I tend to notice that although Harvey is not badly dressed, he’s not anything special either. Just some casual clothes that sometimes do work, like the Henley’s, but there’s less care or he simply can’t pull them off. Don always looks good, casual or not. And I think Don goes further in the sense that he’s not from modern times, the fact that his suits and clothes still look dashing displaced 50 years is fantastic.

    I like Harvey more because his suits are really good, and he doesn't fall in the American/British/Italian trio of suits.
    it's not a British suit like most people would think, but more of a French suit. (Which can also be noticed by the name of his tailor "Rene/é" in the series, which as a name comes mainly from France.) The French style gives more the image of a conqueror and strength than a classical English suit would, where the suits mustn't take the spotlight from the person wearing it.
    Btw, I thinks it's a shame that the French Style isn't mentionned more often, because it's also quite the interesting style.
    Would be interesting to see a video about the other suit styles beside the "American/British/Italian trio"...

    • @OneDreams54
      @OneDreams54 4 года назад +1

      @@nerf123dca Being close to Tom Ford's style doesn't make it american. Tom Ford went trough multiple years of his studies in France. Then worked in Italy and France for almost 15 years.
      To re-use your sentence :
      There's nothing North American about his style.
      Just because someone has a background of some nationality, doesn't mean his school of style is from that country. One of the best French-style Tailors has some italian family and a little bit of an Italian style.

    • @nerf123dca
      @nerf123dca 4 года назад

      @@OneDreams54 you said it urself. tom ford is an american who studied french and italian design. which made his design distinctly his own which can be considered american. now its more of a north american design cuz the costume designer of the series is canadian. thats where my point is coming from. u basically just made it french cuz the tailor on the show is named rene. lol

    • @OneDreams54
      @OneDreams54 4 года назад

      @@nerf123dca The style School of the suit isn't determined by where the one who made it come from, but from the characteristics of the suit itself.
      If an American goes to Italy, learn the Italian School Style then come back to open a shop in the US. Even if he is an American with a shop in the US, the suits he'll produce will still be Italian Style suits.
      And if you compare the characteristics of Harvey's suit, with the characteristics of American, British, Italian and French suits, he'll be closer to the latter than to the others.

    Harvey is the guy people want to be. He’s regarded as the best lawyer in New York, everyone from assistants to CEOs of billion $ company’s know exactly who he is and just how good he is. Harvey has multiple beautiful woman who are in love with him even, has multiple flings with different beautiful woman. Harvey literally outsmarts people for a living and is usually the smartest person in any room, he’s the youngest ever senior partner, he’s loyal to everyone he cares about, he’s brave enough to break the law for Mike and even try and take Mikes place and go to prison instead of him. Harvey is a lot wealthier than Don, the man is multi millionaire who pays his own secretary’s wages without her knowing, lives in a million $ penthouse apartment in New York. Harvey is also a lot more complex of a character, he is the definition of confident, he dresses better and he’s also able to fight. Plus Don cheats on his wife with multiple woman, Harvey doesn’t even sleep with married woman due to his own moral compass

    • @bighands69
      @bighands69 4 года назад +4

      Don Draper wealth today would be about 80 to 100 million dollars. Don drove amazing cars such as Cadillac that were hand built like modern Rolls Royce cars. Even the Ford Dons family drove would be nicer than any modern car out there.

    Draper's character is more a tragic figure, one that reinvented himself and runs a fine line between control and chaos.
    Harvey has always known who he is and what he wanted.
    Draper's look is the foundation upon which Specter is built.
    The peak lapels on Harvey's suit places him in that power position. The peak being slightly more formal and commanding over the notch lapel.
    For Draper to run with 2-piece single breasted suits is the 'new style' of the early 60s, the DB being very 50s and very much the American 'sack' suit style. The older gents preferring 3-pc or DB suits.
    I agree, I think Harvey Specter probably does inch ahead.

    Don Draper just doesn't wear black and white, he wears brownish colors, and his ties have some industrious motives in them that nowadays are not seen again. And even if Don is socalled 'empty' innerly, Don has just as witty comments that are more humane and not so robot like as Harvey 's. Don is the winner here, and even when he loses he wouldn't care at all: "Accounts come in accounts go out". And Don acknowledges he doesn't know it all while that Harvey guy thinks he's the god Apollo himself. In a mad men episode some guy at the bar was reading a poems book and told Don the book was not for him, and later on Don was reading that same book, so Don is keen to keep learning all his life while that Harvey guy thinks he knows it all already. Because Don has inner issues doesn't mean he's totally empty, he's still that man that all women wants to be with and all men wants to be.

    I can understand comparing these characters from a style perspective. However, that’s where it ends. Draper’s character is so incredibly deep it’s impossible to ever really understand him. He’s a man who fights inexhaustibly his entire life to rise from the bowels of hell to being seated at the head of the table with the Harvey Specters of the world. However, from a style perspective IMO, Specter is contemporary in every way, while Draper is a timeless classic with jarring good looks that go beyond needing the help of any accessory, suit etc…there’s no contest here!

    Harvey Specter without a doubt. Smart, sophisticated, on point and does not care what anyone thinks. Thank for this comparison.

    I like both. I think Harvey is a more idealized version of what the best man possible looks like. Draper imo is more realistic.

    Better looking - Don
    Charisma - Don
    Better written character - Don
    Bigger chick magnet - Don
    Better Show - Madmen (even though I quite like Suits)
    More alpha like - Don
    Better with words and more likely to steal the show in a social setting - Don
    More powerful - Harvey
    Richer - Harvey
    More ethical - Harvey
    Less of an asshole - Harvey
    More genuine - Harvey
    More ethical - Harvey
    Friendlier and more likely to help - Harvey
    Shows greater empathy - Harvey
    Harvey Specter is a powerful, ethical, level-headed good-looking man who likes to pretend he's an asshole, whereas Don is a very realistic, vulnerable, fucked-up asshole with god level looks and charisma and on very rare occasions, shows empathy. I'd love to be friends with someone like Harvey Specter whereas I'd be very wary of people like Don Draper. Harvey is also someone worth emulating as he has many redeeming qualities, whereas you can't acquire Don Draper's looks and charisma - you'd have to be born with it.
    Someone who looks like Don Draper doesn't even have to try to be nice - He can get away being an asshole unless he fucks up in catastrophic proportions like Don does.

      Brilliant synopsis .. I concur with everything you wrote , well done ! Personally, for entertainment value Don Draper‘s character is definitely more interesting because of all his flaws and his double life. I guess what I’m saying is kudos to the writers of Mad Men for creating such a tortured character.

    I not only hit rock bottom; I always tell people I hit ocean bottom. I have been fired 4 times the last one was devastating because, I reach my peak in my career and was promoted to a Controller, the 6,000 ft home I build from scratch, I had to sell at a loss because it took me six months to find a job so I had depleted all my savings and borrow from family members. Prior to that the business I built a grocery store and restaurant, I sold to a friend he screwed me on the deal and had to claim bankruptcy.
    With much happing in my life I decided to go back to school at 52 you and get my master’s degree in Accounting. It took me about 5 years to get my financial back in line, I make more money now than I did before. I am more financially stable and during all these crises continued to put money into my 401K. My 401k is pretty stable and last year was able to give my only daughter her dream wedding with over 170 people to include venue, cater, DJ and all the liquor you can drink. All the guests that attended said this was the best wedding they have ever attended.
    I have 10 more years before I retire, I have been there, done that and plan to play it safe my goal is to move from Colorado to Florida and enjoy the nice warm weather. I always tell people who struggle there is only one place to go and that is up. Good Luck and God Bless

    • @bighands69

      Why retire at 62 why not 72. My grandfather worked on his farm until he was in his 90s. People who work longer tend to live longer.
      Why not work 10 to 20 hours per week and enjoy the rest of your time when you get older. When your youth is gone it does not come back.
      running your own businesses are probably the best thing you can do in life. Anybody who is skilled and good at working should be running their own businesses. When you work for others you make them money.
      I have seen people dedicate their life to businesses building them up but it was not their business and then they realized that they did not reap the rewards of effort.

      Modern styles are horrible and bland. In the modern world we do not have style movements attached to culture. What we have is thirty something men running around with beards, tattoos, shorts, sandals and giving of the air of being a bum.
