What I absolutely love about your videos is that you don't criticize or downplay other styles (I've seen Brock McGoff and Mens Fashioner videos doing so), you even encourage people to pursue their own ideal style while providing insight about a timeless look. This is what a top gentlemen behaves like. Mad respect.
you're definitely a character ... your style may not be my style but I got some good tips watching your vids ... you follow a certain set of rules and pay attention to detail ... I respect that
Loving the return of cargos, and even cargo JEANS...... also waiting patiently for actual long overcoats to come back enough into style that I can find one. Haven't seen anything yet.
It’s a lot more important to keep your core warm than your arms. If your core is warm it will warm your arms and legs without necessarily having to cover them. If you have limited packing space, it’s a lot more efficient to pack a vest than a long sleeve coat. You also don’t have to worry about the sleeves getting caught in things. Obviously in extreme cold you need to keep all parts of your body covered. But in most average cold weather (slightly above freezing), a vest would do just fine.
I love cargo pants cause I'm in the military and a mom. They are the superior pants for accessibility of items. The pockets are secure and placed where you naturally have your hands. You can access them while sitting and they are more pickpocket resistant than standard slip pockets. They largely eliminate the need for additional bags for every day carry items. But they are not largely accepted as every day wear and are not to everyone's taste.
Honestly, Slick Collar is one of the best products out there, along with Anson belts. Having both makes constant highly visible (and potentially off-putting to others, especially females) adjustments to your wardrobe a thing of the past. I definitely found that these two relatively small adjustments to my wardrobe, had a huge impact on comfort and - with it - confidence.
I have a cream colored heavy cable knit cotton turtle neck pullover that is high quality and 40 years old. It works to throw on in summer on a cool evening and in winter under a heavy jacket. I bought it when it was actually cheap even back in the 1980s. I wish I had also bought the dark blue version sat on the shelf as well. Probably my best value piece of clothing apart from Church's shoes in Oxford style I bought around the same time that I still have. Who doesn't like a cable knit but then again that's what your father wore in the 1980s when you were thinking that wearing day glo bold printed t shirts was on trend and Crockett 'n' Tubbs were the cool guys driving open top sports cars in Miami Vice. Let's try to forget the 1980s mullet hairstyle though. 🤔
That Slick Collar is really a slick idea., I ordered it, but had to go through a local retailer as I live overseas. I've retired and haven't worn a suit in over ten years in a climate that lends itself to casual wear. Howevr, in three weeks I need to at least wear a jacket for an event. I plan to wear a knit shirt with a stand up collar instead of dress shirt and tie. I really haven't worried much about my appearance since reloacting to this very casual country, but you have inspired me to look better, at least for this one occasion.
Lugged soles don't seem that extreme to me but I grew up with the Star Trek style zipper boots with the 3-4" heels so that may have desensitized me on the subject;).
Nice tweed jacket! Talk about timeless! I picked up my first tweed jacket cycling across England in university, 40 years ago, and it was probably the nicest one I've had. But yours might even be nicer.
Agreed. I have one I bought in Italy that I only wear in summer. The Italians do 'English Style' with a twist that I like. I am English so I tend not to like what we call the heavier 'tweedy look' but hey it works for some people. I just like the lighter fabric of the one I have, the slightly summery color and the well cut classic look that Italians seem to be able to pull off.
I am 50 and wear cargo pants occasionally for casual. However it is with same looseness as regular cut jeans. A scenario other than outdoorsy activity where I would wear them is an outdoor flea market.
I think the double denim works, even if the colors are closely matching. You just don't want to go the Justin Timberlake route. Plaid trousers can look good. Had a pair when was younger. they were brown and black plaid pants. They were loose fit, not like they wear them today, and I paired them with a black shirt. Last time I wore corduroy pants was in the 70s when I was a kid and I can still hear the sound they made.
Double denim that almost matches gives the same effect as a sport coat or blazer that almost matches your trousers. It looks like you tried to make a match but didn't quite succeed at it. Double denim looks best when there's obvious contrast or when the two pieces of denim match perfectly.
@@ryansmith8 I disagree. I've seen double denim that almost matches in both light and dark denim that look good and I've seen double denim that had an obvious contrast and the outfit just looked bad.
I've actually developed a sense of style because of this channel. Whenever I get into these videos, two things happen: 1- I spend noney and 2- my girlfriend gets jealous of the attention other women give me.
Great video as usual. Thanks for the link (and code) for the Slick Collar. I've been struggling with this issue for several of my favorite shirts and had no idea there was such a simple solution. I went ahead and ordered a set and saved some $$$ in the process.
In the ‘70s I’d wear puffer jackets and vests. We just called’em down jacket, down vests. They didn’t look great, but they were warm! I would almost always layer my vest with a hoodie. I was living in Alaska, for heaven’s sake!
I really like that sport coat? I had one like once upon a time. Please let us know what you’re wearing and where u got it from. Love your style and channel
Can't believe cargo pants are coming back - I know men who still wear them from the last time they were in style, I guess with cyclical things you can be so far behind that you're leading the pack. The shorts can stay away though, please, it was impossible to find anything but cargo shorts in stores for so so so long
I hate corduroy pants. My mom would force me to wear them back in the seventies and early eighties. In late January of 1984, I moved in with my dad and stepmom. They let me pick out my own clothes.
I wore them as well but never developed a strong hatred against them. I just preferred blue jeans. I would say I have a corduroy sports coat that looks good for me.
@@frustrateduser9933 Yes very early Gen X here and 'cord pants' make me cringe. I have one dark blue slim leg pair worn about 4 times in ten years that are comfortable to wear and good quality. I should wear them around the house for doing dirty jobs just to wear them out. My inner Scrooge won't let me throw out perfectly serviceable good quality clothes though.
Thank you for this video. Where I live, most are using the current overall athleisure trend to dress like total slobs. Many middle aged folks are looking like they are trying too hard to be young and are looking out of shape with the athletic gear. No one seems to look decent or professional. Thinking that gents should follow traditional menswear (demonstrated by RMRS) and also mix in a few modern materials with complementary modern styles (eg: quarter zips) to keep current. Guys need to set a standard for themselves regardless of trends that might not look good.
I disagree on wide brim hats been hard to style. Yes if cowboy then they work best if you are country to the core. But in a Fedora or even Spanish riding style they look great providing you get proportions right. No better example is the Poet hat which was designed for 1930's Australia with high crown shaped more to a point. You might know it better as Raiders of the Lost Ark. The trick is to do what Akubra does and use cowboy weight felt. Holds great shape.
I love Lenny Kravitz - the coolest guy ever in my opinion. However, I am half an inch taller! I never suspected that he was shorter than me! Great video Antonio, as always.
Already there. I have stopped wearing blue jeans. I am now wearing corduroy pants (like when I was a kid). Chocolate brown, A lighter brown. And a lighter, lighter brown. Everybody wears jeans. I haven't seen anybody else wears cords. Yet.
Same here, chinos & jeans doing the job... it's time to bit the bullet of corduroy, but I am of the same generation (of 80s) that wore corduroy trousers as a kid and have mixed feelings with them. Warm and tough but rather uncomfy in my memories. I don't know if they have become better or for adults are different
I don't know if this is just me, but I find the constant "frame changes"? to be pretty distracting. It makes sense when it cuts out to another image to illustrate what you are talking about, but I find when its the exact same frame but just a different seating position, the change is quite jarring. This is especially true when it is happening every 4-7 seconds. Love the content, the editing throws me off.
Feel free to ask about what I mean and I can point to timestamps where this feels like an issue. I imagine if I have this gripe then others may as well.
No. No, no, no. Do not ever chase “today’s” styles. Waste of time and money, whilst classic styles still exist, strongly. Heck, you’re better served looking into 1920’s styles. Save your money. Focus on timeless denim, chinos, blazers, even a totally unconstructed, casual sport coat (don’t be afraid),…a tough iteration of nice shoes…like, say, a basic, flat black pair of Oxfords, at least. So they can and will look slick but also a tough, masculine manner. Wanna look and feel great for fall and winter no matter what else is going on under and around it? A quality pea coat! A pea coat can only fail if you go out of your way to fail it! Heheh
When it comes to cargo trousers or combats please please please buy actual real military grade cargos, there is noting that makes me more annoyed then people wearing fake camo or fashionable cargos, real ones will last you for years because they are built for war. And we all know that old style English DPM pattern camo is the best there is followed up by US woodland.
