I just came here after reading an article of how animators are struggling to get right pay from studios. Now after watching your video I can see their perspective very clearly. If such a short film took such a long time and effort, can't imagine how tough it is to make those action animes. Truly amazing work and kudos to all animators for making amazing art. And great explanation on the process.

although grease pencil is actually 1000times better than Psd and krita if you know how to do it right way because grease pencil is complicated. but best software for experts

Great video. You laid out the process in such that it seems so approachable, thank you for that. You mentioned at the end free alternatives for the tools that you used. I would recommend looking for open source tools, as these will often be high quality with a large community, while also being free, so I thought I would just jump in to give some examples.
    Script:
    Trelby
    KIT Scenarist
    Libre office
    Concept art:
    Krita
    Blender (Grease Pencil)
    Gimp
    Animatic / Story Board:
    Blender + StoryPencil addon
    Storyboarder
    Background art:
    Krita
    Gimp
    Animation:
    OpenToonz,
    Blender (again)
    Krita
    Audio:
    Audacity for sfx and dialogue
    Muse score - music
    LMMS - music
    Video editing / composition:
Blender, (It may surprise you to know that Blender, a primarily 3D modeling tool, has some really good compositing and video editing tools)
I really hope that these help. If I've left anything out, please feel free to add to my sugesstions. Thank you again for taking the time to introduce such a complicated topic in such an approachable way.

For the free animation programs I recommend Blender. I'm using the Grease pencil option for 2D animation, but you can also mix it with 3D if it's needed. I do most of my concept sketches in Krita because I'm used to raster based sketching since Grease pencil is basically working with vectors/vertices but you could do it all in Blender too(I do this out of habit probably). Krita also has animation workspace but I haven't tried it only because I got used to Blender first. (I have some short animations on my channel all done in Blender (・ω

Great video! Thanks for taking the time to make it and sharing your insights. Blender's 2D animation pipeline "Grease Pencil" is pretty robust lately. Obviously blender is free and open source so massive save there. There is also a growing community of artists switching to Blender for 2D animation work as the subscription services are getting tough to afford. So give blender a try. The learning curve is steep, I won't lie, but try to push through. Its really fantastic especially if you use the 3D aspects of Blender along with Grease Pencil.

And once he tried to catch the egg his tail ended up wrapping in the wheel and it got stuck stretching his entire body... of course he got flung out of it and fell in water thx for reading

Thank you very much for this explanation! I'm 15 and wanted to participate in a talent competition. I wanted to do animation, but I've only ever animated short 30 seconds at least of simple no background animation. This will be a big jump from my usual, but I'll do good :D

I have been playing around with Toonsquid, it is pretty decent for an iPad app:
It looks like you have a lot of freedom with Adobe.

1:25 for our first animation project in HS, our teacher made us animate a simple gif, but then she made us do our next project..which was creating a 6 minute tutorial video...yes, most of us did not have any animation experience but she said as long as we put in the "effort" we'd be able to get a good grade

for the sounds, make sure you have the licenses to use them. Even if not for commercial usage. Many people think it's ok, to "borrow".. but legally it's not. Copyrigths etc..
There are websites that offer, sounds you are free to use for personal or commercial usage, they grant people the right to do so (the fx creators did)
