I have watched all Jamie's videos on braiding and have had 100% success every time. These are all fantastic videos. If you are unsure, practice with 4 picks of rope or yarn. I am not Jeeish and have taught myself how to make Challah for my sons partner who is Jewish. Making Challah is very rewarding and makes you feel happy all day. Thankyou
THANK YOU! The best 4-braid video I have found. I see how, after the braid is complete, he presses/rolls out the ends so that they are thin, before tucking them under. Will definitely try this technique.
Wanted to thank you for the clear instructions (watched other of your braiding tutorials, too). My braids came out perfect. However, even with just egg white, the tops were too browned. IS I tried the syrup method (warm water and golden syrup stirred together) and that created a nice shine with just a hint of colouring.
hi jaime! this week was my second week making challah for shabbat. i found and followed this video and my challot look absolutely beautiful. i swear i almost cried when i saw them ready. thank you!!!! 💖
I had to switch the speed to 0.50x during the braiding, and turn my laptop upside down. It would be really helpful if the camera was "top down" from the braider's POV. The "down the middle and replace it" is SO HELPFUL and so easy, once you have the right perspective on what you're replacing.
I did thank you. Hope you did too, Shavua Tov. And by the by, these tutorials are amazing, The loaves might have looked a wee bit off but they rose beautifully and the little tricks I have learnt in them I will be implementing and teaching to my daughters. Thank you so much!
4-braid challah sequence (start with squat rolls) 1 to 4 3 to 1 4 to 3 2 to 4 1 to 2 3 to 1 4 to 3 2 to 4 1 to 2 3 to 1 {repeat this sequence until the dough ends) To finish, squish the tips, roll tips, and tuck each tip/end underneath the challah braid.
I restarted this 6 times until I turned my phone upside down and then could finally do it. What makes it easiest to follow the "down to the middle & replace" to the side is to put the side strands straight out to the side so as not to get them confused.
good video but does not help to learn the 4 braid challah as the camera disappears and then goes back and forward. please do focus on the braiding and stay there so we can follow all in one continuos shot. thanks
I need to understand why my ropes end up with lines as I am rolling. So frustrating. I ended up taking all the dough, kneading, reproofing and the same thing happened.
This is NOT the video to use for a 4 strand. #1 - why would they ever show his face while you are trying to figure this out. #2 - it's upside down...in other words they are not filming from you perspective. Find a different tutorial.
If you wouldn’t mind, I’d really appreciate a slower speed video. I was trying to follow along... it started out nice and slow and then I got totally lost when he was saying over the the middle and replace super fast. I certainly don’t expect mine to come out like a professional baker but again it was way to fast for an amateur to follow along! Very nice videos though!!!

This is the BEST example I’ve found of an easy way to remember a 4-strand braid! Short. Clear view from above. And simple.

Thanks, save it so you don't forget, I always look back for reference.
BEST tutorial on here!!!!!! Down the middle and replace it!!!! Perfect... I got it🙌🏾
Thank you. Very helpful to see how you tucked the ends under. I never considered rolling the ends just a bit before tucking them.

good help... but the camera is in the wrong direction !

I will need to watch this a few more times before I braid on Friday, I definitely want to try the four braid!!! :)
You can do it, let us know how it comes out.
Well.....I think I went a wee bit wrong at one point but I will persevere and next week do better I am sure. Shabbat Shalom!!
Practice makes perfect and in the end it is the taste that really matters. Hope you had a great Shabbos.

Amazing!!! Thanks so much for saying that it means so much to us.
Gonna try this one, upgrade from my normal three braid.
Wow. Mine didn't come out perfect but for my first 4 braid challah it looks good. This video was perfect thanks.
Well done! Thanks you very much for the best video braiding tutorial.
I wish that the video was flipped so we could see the braiding from the same angle that you see.
4-braid challah sequence (start with squat rolls)
1 to 4
3 to 1
4 to 3
2 to 4
1 to 2
3 to 1
4 to 3
2 to 4
1 to 2
3 to 1
{repeat this sequence until the dough ends)
To finish, squish the tips, roll tips, and tuck each tip/end underneath the challah braid.
Thank you...I needed it numbered in order to literally feel and touch the process.
Love this! I was making a 6 braid to be fancy but this comes out with a nicer texture!
I need to follow your advice and not do mine so tight. I always end up with pale gaps where it tears while baking.
You can do it

Right? Camera should be from the other perspective too, not upside down
Thank you! This was so helpful for me to learn how to do the 4 braid challah.
I'm so glad!

שלום! אני אוהב את הדרך בה אתה עושה חלה אתה מדהים, אני מקווה שאתה יכול לקרוא בעברית
I've never gone beyond baking a 3-braid challah. After this video, I have the confidence to try a 4-braid.
That's what I like to hear.
this helped so much, thank you!
Wow this was super helpful! Thanks :3

That's right! Upside down perspective that is difficult to follow. Anyone watching on their mobile would need to lock the screen and flip the phone
I agree this is a terrible tutorial
I watched this 3 times and gave up. I need to see it from my perspective, not upside down.
Sorry, working on some new ones, posting on Instagram, so make sure to follow me there.
If you watch on a tablet or phone, you can turn it upside down.
Is hypnotised 😲
The video is upside down
I wish I had discovered this video first before braiding my challah...
It's never too late
Your video is much easier to follow I will make another Challah this Friday. Thank you for your video!
שלום אני מאוד מודה לך אבל אי אפשר לראות קליעה של חלה הפוך זה קשה לקלוט
Thank you very much😀from Thailand 🙏
Our pleasure!
way too fast. nice try asking him to go slow. didn't work.
Todah
You are welcome

so sorry, will work on slower videos in the future
You can adjust the speed in the settings.
