    Thank you! My Catholic grandmother introduced me to Kosher food in Chicago 65 years ago. Only now at 70,
    I'm learning how to braid Challah per YOU TUBE. This is the best food I have eaten, but have purchased it from the experts.
    With this video showing the refined technique, I will try.

      My grandma was Czech, and she was a great cook who made our family rave. The Eastern European food she made like sauerkraut and pork wasn't for me ever re content. Am half "UK" and love chicken soup.Here in the Southern USA, sometimes it's hard to find the "best of the best" of some ethnic foods. So we cook it. :-)

    Jamie...how long, inches, cm, should a 5 braid be rolled out?

    • @jamiegeller
      @jamiegeller  4 года назад

      12-16 inches, as desired. But don't be overly concerned about the length - shorter strands will result in a shorter plumper challah while the longer thinner strands will result in a longer thinner challah but note that a longer thinner challah is harder to manage/hold (after baking) without breaking.

  • @josephk.strauss1913

    • @jerrycargill4847

    Luv all ur vids , always learning somtin from them. I know ur a profesionnal and i wouldn't want to insult u but i checked all ur vids on braided challah as the 2, 3 , 4 , 6 that were very nice . I think this one is wrong : it's not a 5 braids technique but a 3 braids technique made with 5 pieces instead of 3 . The final result is still very nice but clearly not what a 5 braided dough should look like.. Thanks for ur very interesting vids ....

    • @jamiegeller
      @jamiegeller  4 года назад

      There are of course lots of ways to make many of the multi-braids, so it's okay if you don't like this one.

    • @pachanou
      @pachanou 4 года назад

      @@jamiegeller Hi Like i said if u read it well , the final result was a very nice bread ... meaning that i liked it . All i am saying is that the technique u are using is nothing else than the 3 braids technique and i am pretty sure that u are aware of that coz very obvious .. . There are maybe lots of ways to do a braid but wich ever way u choose , the final result is always the same : No harsh feelings here , just different opinions and we talked about it ... right ? I wish u a very nice one and will continue watching ur vids .....

    How about you take a rubber band, a hair doo dad, or a ribbon and pull that hair back and LEAVE IT ALONE instead of touching and flipping your hair with bare hands and then touching the food that you serve to PEOPLE? You know they do make employees by CODE wear hair nets for a reason in commercial settings. There is NOTHING as nasty as pulling a hair out of your mouth from food inside your mouth. Just pull it back ad then leave it alone.

    It's amazing how many times Jamie touched her hair while braiding the dough strands......
    It should be recommended, in every food prep demo, to always tie back one's wig or hair when one chooses to wear it long instead of allowing it to dangle over the food one is preparing.
    There is no food less appetizing than the bite that comes complete with a hair wrapped in it...

    Jamie I normally love your videos but this got a thumbs down from me because this is not how you braid a 5 strand challah ! Still think you're great but I ruined my bread because using this method it looks exactly like a three strand. I do like the cool combo at the end of the video, but as someone said I think this braid is called fish tail.

    • @jamiegeller
      @jamiegeller  6 лет назад

      There are different ways to make all the braids, this is how I do the 5 braid and it might be like a fish tail, sorry that it didn't work well for you.

    • @Herman40567
      @Herman40567 6 лет назад

      Jamie Geller Can you change the title to say "5 Strand Fish Tail braid"? Or at least put it somewhere in the description? Some people may be looking for how to braid fish tail or they may want to actually see the other 5 strand method, and changing the title would make the video more accurate.
      Great video quality and editing though (camera angles etc). I normally really enjoy everything you post and my partner and I watch your videos together!
      I was just braiding my dough about 30 mins before candle lighting and didn't watch the video fully before braiding. At least it came out tasting good! ;) Thanks so much
