I watched this a few hours ago and was absolutely blown away. The visuals are beautiful and the story is so moving. I think Soul might be my favorite Pixar movie of all time.
Like the best Pixar movies, Soul is pure catharsis. Until tonight, I hadn't realized that it had been months since I last cried from being profoundly and emotionally moved - Soul provided exactly what I needed. What a hopeful note to end 2020 on. Thanks for the thoughts, Chris!
How did I know you would be reviewing this! All it took was a brief trailer watch to KNOW it was in the realm of Up and Inside Out (of course before the trailers explicitly say from the creators of them lol) . Will be adding this to my Holiday must watch list.
I just watched the film after your review, and man... I got so invested both emotionally and spiritually! This might be my favorite movie of the year. It made me think, and really motivated me!
This movie was so cute, easy to watch and beautiful to look at. I loved that it was both fun, funny and had a meaningful message without being too sad like a lot of Disney Pixar movies. Definite recommend👍
@@ChrisHartwell I see your collection is one of focus instead of eternal magnitude. If your eventual video would be more than a mere list, then Yeah!. I'm all for it. I'm thinking you could say a few words about each one and why it is in your collection. edit: I just considered that it would actually be possible for you to have more than the single shelf on screen. I do recognize that my suggestion requires a bit of (unnessecary) work.
I loved it! Loved how the ending doesnt spell out the message for you. I dont know if a kid can enjoy this movie but i did. I wish that pixar can move away from that pursuit structure though. Always is hurry up, we have to go there, we have to find that. And mostly is a duo of main characters. I know that the family is the main target but i think they can tackle a different kind of structure at least once.If you separete it for the rest. If this is the first pixar movie that i saw maybe i will consider it the best. But after years of pixar films i dont know if i can put it up there. But is close
Hi Chris! I love Xmas music too and this year I found an incredible album with all original songs (which are usually not great) that are amazing. Check it out, it's Sia's Xmas album😄
I absolutely LOVED this film. It may be the post-great-film-rush I'm feeling but I think this is one of the greatest films to come from Pixar. It was a wonder seeing how it spoke to you as well 🙂 I, as many others do, know how it feels to aspire sometimes a bit too hard to my work in entertainment and media so soul really hit home. *Spoiler* One minor nit-pick... How did he die from a fall into the sewer yet receive no visible injuries? 😂😂
I really really liked this film, but at the same time there was something different from other great Pixar movies. In a way it felt like it was pieced together by things we've seen a lot before, either in Inside Out, Coco or in other movies. A lot of the rules of the World was made up on the go as a kind of visual exposition, that made it very easy to predict what would happen and how. Furthermore, at least to me (and bare in mind that I still think this was a great movie), there were times in the end where I think the storytelling was weak because it wasn't very clear what was going on internally in the character's mind. Overall a great film, but at least for me, a film without the awe and emotional wow-factor that I've experienced in many of the other Pixar gems.
This move tilted over the line of being more adult friendly than a kid movie. It wasn’t balanced. My 4 kids (ages 8-12) actually told me they were bored and wanted to see something else! A Pixar film?! No way. Still, I liked it but it is clearly made for a different audience. My kids certainly won’t be asking for this during our next road trip.
Also, I wasn’t as surprised as you at the artistic representation of a pre-mortal life. My religious beliefs cause me to view that interpretation as...off. It didn’t distract from the movie for me, but it didn’t strike a chord either. Totally fine, just not as big of a connection with me as it did with you.

Yeah... I'm pretty sure it's now my favorite as well!

I found your channel a few years ago when you were reviewing The Leftovers.
I always appreciate your in-depth reviews 👍
You've been around since basically the beginning! Thanks for sticking around :D Glad you're still enjoying the content!

Aw! I'm _so_ glad that the film lived up!!
I’m so happy you loved the film! I plan to watch it this weekend, and now I’m even more excited to do so!
I really hope you dig it!

Please do a blu ray collection video
I've never actually considered it... but it does sound fun :)
What do you think, everyone else? Should I do a *blu-ray collection video* ?

Thanks so much for the rec!
I hope you do a ww84 spoiler review, oh boy.

A kids film that isn't accessible to children. Bit of a failure imo. It's good, but not fun for all the family like Pixar is supposed to be.
